The thing that prompts my review is the lack of soy sauce, as well as the reaction when I called about it. Unlike all the other positive reviews on about this place, I am going negative on this one, for one reason. I feel like I got ripped off by them. I went in the other day, to place a take-out order. The "special" of the day was fatty-salmon nigiri. I didn't see the price of the special, and the place is upscale, but I figured the special would be a good deal. It turned out to be $19.95, for 4 pieces of salmon nigiri. (I might see this as a fair price for big pieces of sashimi, but not for nigiri.) I felt burned, but sometimes I am not the type to speak up, and make a confrontation. So, I just paid and walked out. My local QFC has similar-quality sushi, 8 pieces for $8.95. Other sushi places have got to be cheaper than this. So, that's why I'm pissed and will never go back. So, if you're not worried about money, then by all means go there, and spend away! read more

Stopped by here yesterday to grab dinner with some friends. It was much better than I expected. 1. Clean - its was clean; no complaints here. 5 stars 2. Service - not bad; there was a rush of customers when we arrived, but was still decent. 4 stars 3. Ambiance - some nice music playing, loved the setting. 5 stars 4. Food - finally the food is where its at. If there was such a thing as 6 stars I would give it. fried tofu was awesome. the toro and salmon was fresh. the sushi melted in my mouth. I sat at the bar and chatted with the sushi man for a few minutes. apparently he's been at this for over 10 years now as a sushi man in both Vegas and LA. Could definitely taste the difference. Sigh, new ownership and they didn't have to announce for me to notice. I normally order two lunch roll special, one hamachi w/green onions and the other salmon w/avocado. I first noticed a "change" when I ordered to go a few weeks ago. My hamachi came w/green onions AND avocado that I did not ask for and made things less tasty. Both rolls didn't have the super fresh fish taste/bite that I had grown accustomed to over the years and they were surrounded with way more abundance of sushi rice than I like. Today, I ordered to go the same items but added an extra hamachi w/ green onion roll. ( hey, I like to eat ) I eagerly open my sushi container at work only to find that both my hamachi rolls have avocado added and ZERO green onions. Sadness. I called them and the person who answered the phone said for me to come by tomorrow and they would give me the correct rolls..Nice, at least, right? Well, what prompted me to update my review is that just now while I was eating my third roll of hamachi and avocado, I bit into an one inch sharp somewhat thick fish bone. What the??? In all my years of eating raw sushi rolls, I have NEVER had that happen. Such a bummer, I miss my other Sushi Kanpai gang...soooo much. read more

I moved into the apartments above before this place opened and eagerly awaited its arrival onto the sushi scene. Finally went and loved it but decided I had to go more than once before rating.....loved it once again! The decor is nice and trendy but not overly so. Dimmer lighting and some soft music....but the reason to go is the food. I enjoyed the maine, spider, and scallop rolls....along with a sushi platter (I was with my husband...I didn't eat it all...but honestly probably could have). The plates have great presentation and attention to detail and the specialty rolls are just that....special. Unfortunately, I will be moving shortly but it's so good, I will definitely be making the drive back to eat here. read more

We love this place! And sushi is not our go to item (though I wish it was when I see the orders being delivered). However, they have other items that are packed with flavor that we enjoy. We always get the side salad - only $3 and enjoy fresh greens, shredded vegetables and a delicious dressing. I then order off of their happy hour menu - Chicken Teriyaki. Delicious. The service is friendly and attentive. We are moving soon and will miss this restaurant. read more

Atmosphere was quiet, cozy, and contemporary. The sushi was generous, of good quality, and the rice was well seasoned. We enjoyed our fried green tea ice cream. Prices were completely reasonable. Our service was excellent until the very end, when the single waitress working the restaurant got a bit backlogged and we waited about 20 minutes for the check. On any other day, we wouldn't have minded, but we were exhausted from a long day of traveling and were dying to get back to our hotel to sleep. Otherwise, great neighborhood sushi joint! read more

Our new favorite neighborhood Sushi bar. Prices are very reasonable, especially with happy hour, and their Sushi and Sashimi is super fresh and tasty. However, the best part is is the atmosphere and service. It's the perfect place to come after work or during a week night to just enjoy some good company and have a nice intimate talk with friends or a significant other while enjoying some great food. Great tasting food but disappointed their sashimi is farmed. We walked in for happy hour wanting to order happy hour sashimi and was told by the waitress that the only wild sashimi was the sockeye salmon on the regular menu. I have to assume that most of their fish is also farmed. read more

We ate here on our weekend trip to Seattle. Edamame was waaaaaay overcooked, and tasted like it had freezer burn. The frozen edamame from Trader Joe's is better than what they served us--not a good sign! The sushi tasted ok, but my friend got sick very soon after, and we had to return to our hotel. I didn't get stuck in the bathroom all night (like my friend), but my tummy still doesn't feel quite right either. This place was a really nice surprise for me. The restaurant is beautifully decorated and the sushi is high quality. I went there with a colleague and we were the only ones there, even though it was a Friday evening. I hope the place doesn't close down for lack of business, but it is kind of in the middle of nowhere--not quite downtown and not quite First Hill. We missed the Happy Hour, but the prices were reasonable anyway. We had the tempura appetizer, a dragon roll, a spicy tuna roll and a shrimp and avocado salad--all for $33. Went here a few times for sushi fix. The staff is fairly decent and nice; but the food... Not so much. First off the food is terribly overpriced for such small portions. And on top of that, it's not that good or fulfilling. Haven't tried happy hour but if it's anything like their standard menu, then I'm not really missing out on much. This place has the worst LUNCH!!! AND its OVERPRICED!!! This is coming from someone who is very forgiving, I went their 4 times and each time my coworkers and friends have all been disappointed. They are not Japanese nor even Korean! They are CHINESE! The Korean food they try to make is either too sweet, soggy, or salty. Does not taste anything like the Korean food my friends and their family makes at their Korean restaurants. Next the different flavors of Teriyaki were either burnt or overly salty and they cost from $10 to $14!!! For lunch, mind you!!! You can definitely get great teriyaki from YASUKO's right up the hill for much less and sooooooooo much better!!! Their tempura batter tasted like old oil was used to deep fry the items. The sushi is okay, if you do not care for the quality. It tasted decent to good. I have yet to try their dinner and do not plan to. If you are craving for food to satisfy your palate, not put a hole in your wallet for what you get, and put a smile on your face, this is definitely not the place to go! read more
