I preface this review noting the restaurant is permanently closing on Oct 30 2025. This is my third visit in the roughly one year that they've been open. In that time they've matured the food preparation, service, and decor. On this visit (my final one, apparently) I got a Crispy Roll special and katsu chicken entree. The entree came with miso soup and salad similar to other sushi restaurants. The crispy roll was good but perhaps too many flavors combined to distinguish any one. The katsu chicken entree, which I've had before, is an absolute mountain of chicken. It's well fried and tasty. I like that it's strips rather than a cutlet. The entree comes with rice. I was doing some shopping in the area and saw the new sushi restaurant at the corner of Ross and Hillsdale. It's not exactly brand new but it's been there for less than six months. This was an old Taqueria that has been transformed into a loving little Japanese restaurant. Service is fast and friendly and they have a great menu. They even have a lunch menu Bento, which has all the things you expect. The price is right. It's about $13. I ordered the beef teriyaki bento and a side of Unagi rolls. Everything was delicious. The portion was appropriate for a lunch. Parking is convenient and It's always great to have another Japanese restaurant in the neighborhood. read more

We'd been wanting to try this place for awhile as it had good reviews. We were welcomed in with a smile by a friendly young lady and seated quickly and provided menus right away. The place is decorated in a pretty standard manner - we never really care too much as long as the place looks clean, which this did, so all good there. They have bento lunch specials which have the pretty standard tempura, couple of pieces of CA roll, a salad, and the entree. The salad had a nice dressing, and a lot of it. More mayonnaise-y and sesame than miso/oil type - it was good. Soup is extra and we didn't choose to try it. The tempura was pretty good - not the most light batter, but still good with a nice selection of veggies. I would say the weakest part of the meal was the beef/entree. It was fine, but the sauce was a little thick/corn starchy and the meat was thin and a little too lean/tough. Like if the best is a 10, this was a 7. So still not bad, but was hoping it would be a little better. The price was very reasonable so no complaints there. We would come back again and try different things, but at least based on our first experience, this was pretty standard, serviceable Japanese restaurant without anything that made it really outstanding. read more

Sushi Kawa is everything you want in a neighborhood sushi joint; kind service, a cozy atmosphere, and most importantly delicious food. Since opening near us a few months ago, Sushi Kawa has become a regular spot for our family on those nights when you just don't feel like cooking or are craving a sushi roll or two. The quality of the fish has always been excellent and after trying quite a bit of the menu, I'm happy to report I've yet to leave dissatisfied. I also appreciate that they have an active specials menu where they are always trying out new dishes which can be a fun accompaniment to the classic rolls. I can personally vouch for the San Francisco Roll and the Jalapeno Hamachi Roll which are both go-to options for us, but I don't think you can really go wrong here. It's great to have a go-to casual sushi spot near our house and I hope we are able to come here for years to come! read more

Nice small sushi eatery with very fresh sashimi. I ordered the teriyaki bento lunch box. Salad dressing was delicious, miso soup was not salty, sashimi was melt in your mouth quality, and the teriyaki was not at all sweet. The tempura was very lightly breaded and super crispy. Prices were decent for sushi in the area! The baked lion king roll was so savory and full of exploding flavors. Parking is easy to find and service was quick. My boyfriend and I stumbled upon Sushi Kawa and decided to try somewhere new. It's a quaint restaurant decorated in Japanese inspired decor. We came on a Thursday evening and it was pretty chill. The service was super friendly and quick. Food wise: The rolls we ordered looked extravagant and overwhelming, but tasted underwhelming and mediocre. I was especially disappointed with the omakase sashimi. I was not expecting to receive fake crab meat sticks in an omakase option. Each sashimi piece tasted bland, and fishy, super watery (like biting into a slushy ice piece?). Some of them still tasted frozen. Dragon roll was delicious - it was warm (which it's supposed to be it seems) and even though I wanted something cold after being sick for a few days, the taste of eel and fresh rice still hit the spot. It was topped with fish roe and avocado slices, with imitation crab and tempura shrimp wrapped inside. We also ordered the kaki fry (12 fried oysters) on the dinner entree menu and the chicken karaage appetizer, both of which came with Bulldog tonkatsu sauce. The miso soup that came with the dinner entree was a lot sweeter than I'm used to, and seemed to be white miso. I drink red miso every day and prefer it but also have white, which still isn't that sweet. Side salad was good, although it was just plain lettuce with some tasty salad dressing (idk, maybe Thousand Island but slightly more refreshing). Chicken karaage looked well-seasoned and crispy but really wasn't - it was more like grilled chicken and kind of hard, but not insufferable to chew on. read more

Glory Roll Brand new sushi spot that's been open less than a month and takes over the old Taqueria El Ranchito (RiP) that had occupied this location for nearly fifteen years. Locally-owned and operated, their website purports to have twenty-five years in the sushi business, but no mentions of previous restaurants. The Good: *Yelp Waitlist and Reservations available via the app *Large menu *Pork Katsu was gigantic! I don't know how my son put it all away, but somehow he managed. *Rolls were also huge and they had a large selection. *Salmon Donburi had nice thiccc cuts of salmon, and was also a huge portion (I'm sure you're seeing the pattern at this point). The Meh: *Small place that holds maybe twenty diners *No outdoor dining *Service was good overall but maybe a little smarmy? I dunno. I had a tough read on the guy... 0_o *Still no liquor license as of our visit last weekend (March 8th) The Ugly: *Tiny shared parking lot. Went here a little after lunch on a Sunday and it wasnt too busy, got seated right away. The place looked very clean and cutely decorated. The person who seemed like the owner was working and we heard him say this location just opened about 6 weeks ago. We got the dinner tempura entree combo, 1 spicy sunshine roll, karage, and amaebi nigiri. The tempura was really good, big portion of shrimp and veggies. I think the shrimp might have been bought somewhere else and refried but it still got the job done. Came with miso soup and salad. Spicy sunshine roll was yummy, a basic california roll with spicy tuna on top with tobiko Amaebi was nice, the heads come deep fried with it. Friendly service. We stopped by to try for the grand opening and also to get an additional discount. This place took over my favorite Mexican restaurant. Was clean - food came out. Staff came to check on us frequently. Food wise was okay. I remember getting a lot of fried tempura for some reason. I was not over whelmed with the food. "Located in the parking lot next to Smart & Final" The interior is simple but stylish, service is fast yet friendly and will take their preparing the food you order. 5 stars for service. The food: #1. Wifey ordered the Beef Sukiyaki, comes with glass noodles, beef, tofu , mushrooms and some other ingredients. They also give you a separate bowl of rice. The beef I felt was over cooked "kind of hard and the mushrooms were chewy. The flavor profile was excellent however 3.5 stars. #2. Volcano king roll: This this is massive, comes with temporary shrimp, avocado, cucumber topped with tuna, salmon, an artificial crab with spicy sauce, scallions, and a Unagi sauce. Let me tell you this one is excellent!, 5 stars. #3. Fried crispy roll "was recommended and on special" let's just say.... Meh, wasn't feeling it. The outside was fried but very dense and heard like it was sitting there for a minute or 3 if you know what I mean. Taste? Again meh, wasn't feeling it at all. Overall I'd say stay away from the fried rolls and go for the good stuff. Specialty rolls and sashimi, Ingredients are fresh. Their prices are reasonable also. Came here Friday for lunch, service was prompt and food was fresh. They had a lunch bento box for $12.95. I enjoyed the baked mussels which had a good sauce and what seemed to finish with torching as I could taste the nice charring. The double tuna roll had fresh fish. Hey there Party People It's been a while since I took Hubby to Sushi so we tried Sushi Kawa. It's a smaller place but they set it up nicely super clean. The wait staff was really good super friendly and quick with the service We started with the Gyoza(pot stickers) and Garlic Edamame. The Gyoza was fried perfectly not greasy or over done, just the right amount of crunch. The filling was savory and very generous compared to what I've had at other places. High marks for both appetizers. I had the Beef Teriyaki. I loved it. You could tell they used the best part of the steak....no gristle or fatty chunks. The teriyaki sauce was fab it was nice and thick ( which is the sign of a great sauce). It had a balanced sweetness so it didn't over power the great flavor of the steak. My dinner came with a green salad and Miso soup. The ginger dressing on the salad was very nice and the soup was just right as well. Hubby got his Sushi fix for sure. The fish was fresh and he thought that all the rolls were really good. The grade of fish, in his opinion, was right up there if not better than other sushi places he has gone to. This is definitely going on the frequent flyer list of restaurants for us. If you're in the area you really do have to stop in. I don't even like fish but I'll be back for sure. This sushi spot is all about quality while also being reasonably priced with fantastic portions. That's exactly what would bring me back time and time again. It's a cute little place that feels new and inviting inside with a decent amount of tables. I assume the owner served us, or whoever he was, he was so nice and attentive. The teriyaki chicken bento was perfect, I would probably get this every time. Good quality chicken, no weird or fatty pieces, lots of tempura too, and for $13 (lunch special) it's one of the best priced bentos I've had. I also love that this special is honored on the weekend unlike other places. The veggie roll and salmon/cucumber roll was good as well. First time customer. Ordered take out of Dinner Combination (sashimi and California crunch roll) and Salmon Maki Roll. The sashimi pieces were thick and fresh -salmon, tuna, and escolar. I didn't know what combination of sashimi I was going to get, but I'm glad I got what I got. I have never tried escolar before, and let me tell you, it's so delicious! It's velvety and fresh, not fishy. Same for the salmon and tuna. The salmon maki roll was good too, I wish it had been a bit bigger, though. The staff was very nice and patient with our questions. We tried four different rolls (California Crunch, double salmon roll, lion king roll, super dragon roll). The salmon was fresh and buttery on the double salmon roll, 10/10 recommend for any salmon lovers. They were extremely generous with their portions, at a great price point too! I am always excited to try a new restaurant, especially "Japanese"/sushi. I have been twice and will not be returning. Here is what I ordered: 1 large Asahi-standard, no issues 10/10 Agedashi tofu-it was fried tofu, yes, but.... Garnish was julienne nori and bonito flakes, but the amount was comical and maybe enough for 1-2 pieces. As if who prepared it had never eaten agedashi tofu ever. Dredged in wheat flour (wrong flour) and greasy. Fried tofu was served by itself on a plate with dipping sauce on the side. Dipping sauce was water and soy, nothing else. 2/10 1 Spicy scallop maki-Why would they put tempura bits in the scallop mixture? Tempura bits were not listed on the menu description, and it became the dominant texture and flavor. It was a spicy tempura crunchies roll versus a scallop roll. Inexperience, not trained, or trying to use less scallop and more filler. Only ate 4 out 8 pieces. 2/10 1 hamachi nigiri- discolored around edge and wet for some reason. I am sure they rinsed it, but why not pat it dry and trim the discolored parts? Two-tone hamachi is not a thing. Not spoiled, but not good. Only ate one piece. I was afraid of eating the other piece. 1/10 1 unagi nigiri-Why would two-piece nigiri be served in three tiny pieces. I ordered two-piece nigiri, as it was listed on the menu and was served three tiny nigiri Only ate two out of the three. An explanation was never given as to why there were three tiny nigiri. 3/10 When I was first ordering, I asked what variety of oysters they were serving and server could not answer. She went and asked kitchen and came back with "small and medium". I tried to ask from where and what species, but that just confused her. I did not want to inform them that the variety was listed on the harvest tag that comes with all oysters delivered to restaurants. Restaurants are required to keep tags for 90 days for tracing purposes. Just look at the tag! Or list it on the special board. Uni was listed on special board as from Hokkaido. Just do the same for oysters, for example "oysters: Miyagi, Washington state" . I did not order oysters because I reasoned that if you are not prepared and knowledgeable as to what variety and where they are from, then I do not want to risk whether they can open and serve oysters properly.
