I stopped at this restaurant when I was checking into my hotel, which happens to be right next-door on a Sunday evening. I went in about a half hour before they were closing to place a to go order and was meant by a very friendly staff and was happily greeted and given a menu to place my carry out order. The food took less than 15 minutes to prepare and get and was absolutely delicious and fresh, even though they were closing in a half an hour. The restaurant was still hopping with a couple of tables and appeared to clean and inviting to sit in. I will definitely come back to this restaurant again when I'm in town visiting family. They also offer and all you can eat sushi option, which is something that I live for and have been looking for for a while. It's not a buffet either, all of the all-you-can-eat items are on the menu that you select an order off of and everything is made fresh to order, so you're not having to get something off of a buffet that other people have walked past, your meal is made fresh even though it is all you care to enjoy. read more

The layout, or presentation is very lovely here. There's beautiful chandeliers that have a modern, yet Japanese feel to it. Like any other Sushi King in West End, and the one in Hull Street, they have a wide selection of sushi, appetizer and hibachi meals. There's a salad bar and dessert bar that you can get up and get whenever you are waiting for your food to be served in between meals. I did notice that they took scallions off the menu. Not sure if it's just in this location or all. Sometimes, I like to get Hot Sake which is $3 extra. This is quite enjoyable with food and for those unfamiliar with this drink, it's more so wine, just made from rice instead of grapes. Can be ordered warm or chilled and tastes smooth. Overall: friendly staff, quick service, and come here hungry because the sushi can be quite fulfilling! They do take military discounts if you ask them about it. read more

This was my first and LAST time at this place. So the all you can eat prices are based on age. My son is 11 and usually doesn't eat sushi but he tried it anyway, the gag was the waitress questioned his age, I explained, he is tall for his age, his father is 6'4 and kids are a lot bigger these days and look older. The waitress had the audacity to go get a coworker to come tell me that they have to charge my son for the adult price because he is over the height of 5'5. So in other words now the price is based on height and not age. He ate 6 pieces of subpar sushi and a soda for $21.99 + tax. UNBELIEVABLE. Instead of flipping the tables, I paid the higher price. These people should be ashamed but I'm not surprised, just be aware that if you have an 11 year old over 5 feet tall, you will be expected to pay the price for an adult. Okay I have been to sushi king millions of time. I LOVE the crazy monkey roll. I usually just come here just for that. The service is typical buffet service. Everything was tasty. Sometimes the meats are over cooked and tough but edible. I do not eat here for dinner as the price is too pricey for what it is. So the sushi here is average quality but the service is amazing. I asked what they had for dessert & my server told me they had a mediocre cheesecake but he could dress it up for me. Update: Normally go to Sushi King with my job for a group lunch. It's about 20-30 of us and with a group our size the service is still pretty quick. The lunch menu does have less options than dinner however there is still a nice variety of sushi options as well as the hibachi entrees. I normally order chicken hibachi with no rice and a couple sushi rolls. They also have a nice crab and cucumber salad available at the salad and dessert bar. I really enjoy sushi king. I have tried different sushi and enjoy the hibachi grilled items as well. It's definitely worth the price point for the buffet. Sea angel and crazy monkey are my favorite sushi roll. read more

The shrimp tempura was a large shrimp with good beading and the tempura vegetables were also cooked nicely. The sushi was just a hair bit under the quality of a regular non- all you can eat restaurant. The menu requests that customers only order one entree or sushi roll at a time, but you can supplement with apps or sides. I did hear other customers order multiple rolls per person so perhaps they aren't stringent with that rule. My wife and I was here last night and we had 20 minute wait. Which was expected being it was a Saturday nite. Once we were seated, we ordered our food. The clear soup is always on point. My wife ordered hibachi chicken with shrimp fried rice and veggies. Once her order came out, she said the chicken had a weird taste! We finished our food and left. Visited 4/22/17 for dinner This Sushi King in Midlothian is one of the better Sushi Kings that I've visited. Often times with sushi buffets, they overdo the proportion of rice:filling, but I'd say that this Sushi King . refrains from doing that. Rolls: Very well made (tightly rolled, not stingy with fillings, not excessive with sauce). Although the rolls at all Sushi Kings are pretty much the same, the rolls here are probably the most enjoyable I've had. There are many rolls that would be "specialty rolls" at most Japanese restaurants that you would end up paying $10-20, but here, you can eat as many as you'd like. My favorite roll is the King roll. Nigiri sushi: Although I think that the fish on the nigiri could be a little thicker, I like that they don't give you too much rice like they do at other locations. The rice is very nicely seasoned with vinegar, which complements very well with the fish. Appetizer bar: Sushi King made the change to have a self-serve bar with some of their appetizers and desserts. The appetizers were always replenished rapidly and looked very fresh compared to other locations One of my favorite things, surprisingly, is the steak hibachi. The vegetables are cooked perfectly and the hibachi steak is still very juice (ordered medium rare). The service was great and the servers I had both times brought out our order on time and never got anything wrong. Although it was pretty busy the nights I visited, my water was always filled and I never had to wait long to order more items! I really enjoy my visits to this Sushi King and it's definitely worth driving a bit further to come here instead of going to other Sushi King locations! Definitely one of the better all you can eat sushi establishments in the area and beats out buffet locations. My friend took me here and I honestly enjoyed the food. I do remember the fish slices were extremely thin on the sushi, but it didn't come with an overly abundant rice ratio. They also got a broad menu, even offering chicken tenders or something for children. The diverse selection allowed me to try out their gyoza, soups, sushi, and a lot of their specialty rolls. Depending on the hour or day, the line can be quite a wait, so I recommend calling in early. There's plenty of parking spaces and facilities are very clean. I totally recommend this establishment for any occasion or for any outing looking for some decent sushi. The only thing I would warn is to not over Order as you will be charged extra for "wasting" food. Their service turn around is pretty quick so I would order as you go for sure! I love this place. My favorites are the clear soup, shrimp shumai, and Hawaii Roll (shrimp tempura, mango, topped with spicy crab). It's all you can eat at lunch for $11.99 and $16.99 for dinner! You can't beat that for the amount of food you get and the fact that it's all you can eat and good quality as well. It won't be your favorite sushi. However the variety and price more than makes up for it. Come hungry. Don't miss the salad bar area where you can find some sashimi varieties too. One star because you have to give a star to write a review. (My first 1 star) The Mrs. was really excited about having Sushi today. She woke up and said "lets go to Sushi King for lunch." I was all in and ready to go...I wish I had read all the reviews before coming though. We were seated immediately and ordered just as fast. I ordered Miso soup, shrimp roll, and two Chef special rolls. My wife order was similar with shrimp tempora added. It took so long to get our shrimp rolls and tempora that I had to ask if they had forgotten us. Well as soon as I inquired, two minutes later it came out. So far, so good...except they forgot my soup. Our lunch entrees came out and still no soup. First thing my wife said was that her ginger tasted like "pinesol". So I smelled mine and sure-nuff it smelled like pinesol and it was browning and withered. I cautioned my wife not to eat it and also not to eat anything raw after observing my sushi. (See pic) I have eaten Sushi in some of the best Japanese restaurants to know what it should look like and the garbage they were serving was not it!!! We called for the manager to show the raw Sushi "Chef Specials" that we were not touching and he had the audacity to say we had to pay extra if we didn't eat the raw sushi and wanted to order cook sushi. At this time I was so done with this place I just wanted my bill so I could pay and leave. The American way of bad customer services has bleed over to foreign restaurant. You might say I'm over reacting but think about this...bad sushi equals salmonella or worst! I've eaten at Sushi King in Virginia Beach (A much better location) so this is not me being arrogant or stuck up. This is me carring for my life and those who read my reviews! I ordered dynamite roll, tuna sushi, salmon sushi, toasted eel sushi, and inari sushi. The sushi was NOT FRESH! It was very fishy smelling and tasting. After eating it it turned my stomach. Now I'm afraid to eat the dynamite roll. It smells really fishy too. I've gotten food from this restaurant before and it was good but this is terrible. I think they used spoiled fish. A truly superb Sushi King location with a huge store, huge parking lot, and absolutely delightful and top-notch service. Both Sushi King locations in Midlothian are excellent - this one is bigger in terms of size-capacity but I think maybe slightly more difficult to get to but still quite accessible from the state and interstate highways around the Richmond-area. I went to the Broad street location and left before being seated after a bad encounter with the host. I was dying to use my Groupon so I came to this location directly afterwards. The minute we walked through the door, this location had already outdone the west broad location. Its much nicer on the eyes and the staff was much friendlier. The place wasn't packed, but there was a large party taking place. Even so, the food came out just as fast as we ordered it. Overall, the food and service were outstanding; Melody was our server she was very sweet and attentive! I had quite a few items from appetizers to the hibachi. This week we celebrated a sushi loving friend's birthday here! The lunch price of 12.99 is perfect when dining with a group who each wants to pay individually. The concept is that you pay one price, starting with an appetizer bar of chilled items, moving on to ordering what you like from the menu then getting a bit of dessert ( a soft serve machine, plus plates of mini cheesecake) from the dessert area. It's also a good place to take non-sushi lovers who want to be a bit adventurous. For example, the chilled bar offers a basic lettuce salad but also a tasty seaweed salad and an avacado salad that I really enjoyed. From the menu, you can choose hot appetizers, like shumai and tempura. Main courses from fried rice and noodle dishes to terriaki and stir frys. All of these come in smaller than what a typical entree would be so that you can try several things. In addition there is a nice selection of sushi basic and specialty rolls to choose from. Our server really knew the menu well. When I showed an interest in sushi with eel in it, he quickly pointed me to the 3 ways is was offered on the menu. When one of the fried rice dishes a friend ordered didn't have much chicken in it, he quickly offered to bring another or another item to replace it. For less than $20 you can eat your fill of yummy specialty sushi rolls and hibachi dishes. The shrimp tempura roll and the Hawaiian roll are delicious at Sushi King. I typically get the steak and chicken hibachi for my entrée option, which always is good. The restaurant is always impeccably clean. The servers are always present and polite. I absolutely love coming to Sushi King! I was first introduced by my Pharmacist and have been spreading the word ever since. You can order any specialty or regular sushi roll as many times as you want a long with unlimited apps and hibachi. My favorite thing to order is the hibachi shrimp alone no rice, shrimp dumplings and the volcano roll. Great for big groups and extremely inexpensive for what they offer.
