After I ate here, I wished I just stayed home and ate instant ramen. Perhaps my standards for sushi is higher than it should be for this location, but I prepared for some disappointment after I sat down and the floors were sticky, tables were sticky. We ordered 2 hand rolls, some nigiri, the chef choice sashimi plate and the shrimp/veggie tempura. The tempura was fine. The sushi was disappointing. The sashimi cuts were way too thick to taste good. The salmon sushi was WARM and now I'm just hoping I didn't get food poisoning. I would say the food gets a 2/5. Not the worst place we have had but definitely bottom 3. I felt nauseated after I finished eating here. The prices weren't that great either, pretty standard for good sushi but their food does not meet the expectation of what they charge. We spent $70 before tip. Service was okay. They didn't ever come to refill our waters even though my cup was empty. They just came to get our plates and give us our check and that was it. It wasn't even that busy, we had no wait to sit. The only plus is that there's outdoor seating if you wanted to come with a pet, and there's an ice cream place next door. I would 1000% never come back. So much regret picking this place. read more

Ok, I have to say something. We've driven by this place for years and always wanted to try it so we did recently. I have never been so disappointed in a sushi place. The fish on top was grey/brown when it was supposed to be pink. I tried to convince myself it was normal and then went home to check pics of the same roll and nope, it was supposed to be pink. We both were sick to our stomachs that night and honestly, it's going to take a very long time for us to even ever go to sushi again bc we are scarred. It tasted nasty too. I wish we had sent it back, but we felt bad. And the place was really expensive. We will not come back here ever and that's sad bc we live down the street and we love sushi (in fact, until this visit, I had never met a sushi roll I didn't like). I've been to the Poway location many times and this is my first time at Point Loma. Due to the parking situation, I don't think I'll ever return. They don't have a lot and it's all street parking which is very limited. A restaurant needs to be exceptionally amazing in order for me to return if parking is an issue. Same goes with the myth of seeing many turn overs in neighborhoods with no parking. You have to be really good in order to draw customers to the area. The Point Loma location is convenient for lunch for people who work nearby. We came here right at 11 so it wasn't busy but parking was still sparse. Do not turn in the lot behind the restaurant because it belongs to the place next door and you'll have difficulty reversing out since it's one way in and out. They offer a variety for lunch. I decided to get B+B which are two rolls under B category for $16.95. I got the Cocomo which is coconut shrimp, spicy scallop, cucumber, avocado, toasted coconut, sweet Thai chili sauce and spicy aioli ($14 regular). I also got the Crunchy which is shrimp tempura, crab, avocado, tempura flakes with sweet soy glaze ($11.95 regular). Great lunch price considering how much it cost for dinner. The Cocomo was favorite of the two. The flavors created a nice blend and you can't really taste the coconut. The crunchy roll could use a little bit more of sweet glaze. If I come back, it'll be right when they open to find decent parking. read more

I wouldn't recommend this sushi spot. Waited 40 minutes for my to go order and it wasn't a big order. The restaurant wasn't busy either so not sure why it took as long as it did. The garlic edamame tasted sweet / cinnamon which was confusing. It didn't taste salty or garlic at all. The sweet flavor wasn't pleasant either. The sushi was okay. It was my first time here. My friends decided to come to my side of town to get together and have a good time. However, for my first time experience it was not a good one. The service was terrible. I asked for water many times and it took forever to be brought out while all my friends had their sodas. The server was not attentive at all. Didn't ask anyone for refills at all. Came here on a Friday night and it was pretty busy. We got seated fairly quickly though. There's indoor and outdoor seating. We chose to sit indoor because it was cold outside. There's a section of all booths and the rest of it are tables or the sushi bar area. There are tables beside the sushi bar area. That whole area is so cramped and it was hard to move around because there's people so close to you. It makes it even worse if you have small children. Trying to make a high chair fit without squishing my baby too close to the table was really difficult. Customer service was pretty good. The server and host were friendly. Things came out in a timely manner. Food was okay. Nothing too special or anything that stood out. Prices are standard and match what most sushi restaurants have. read more

Sushi Lounge is a doing a great job during the pandemic by offering spaced-out outdoor seating with umbrellas to protect from sun, and a nice clean bathroom for good hygiene practice. The sushi is fresh, quality, unique, and flavorful. On certain days and times, many happy hours and discounts can be used to your advantage to eat more and save as well. $4 hand rolls had big and fat cuts of salmon and tuna. $8 lobster roll was tasty and also quite generous for the cost. They could've cleaned it a tad better, as I chewed on a bit of shell on two pieces. $10 chronic roll is huge, with fish and shrimp. Miso soup was generically good. The joint seems to have a large number of regulars and a unique personality. Judging the food on its own, I'm not sure I'd give this 5 stars, but the fantastic happy hour deals won me over. read more

This restaurant has lots of opportunities however the management lacks vision on a customer experience. Opportunity : outdoor bar. Inviting happy hour, great location and fun menu. Lack of vision: 1. manager who orders around people rather than train her team to understand processes, systems and how to manage situations. 2. Outdoor bar, which is typically fun was filled with flies. Overwhelming. You could not enjoy. Had to take sushi home. They lost out on us ordering more alcohol. Still better than eating with flies. I'd like to give more stars. They are a little heavy handed on the rice in their rolls, though the quality of the fish is very good. There is something overly "imploded" about the texture of the rice. It's not tight, it's more puffy. You will get full as a result. Natasha was a fantastic server and gave my friend and I solid recommendations. We tried the August roll of the month (Endless Summer) and the Por Vida roll. The Endless Summer roll was killer, but the Por Vida roll was absolutely mind-blowing. This was one of the best and most inventive sushi rolls I've ever tried! Plus if you like spicy, it generates enough heat to give you a little adrenaline kick while still providing some complex flavors. This roll is in-house only, but absolutely worth it! I ordered a sashimi platter which was decent but strange it didn't come with any rice. When a few of us ordered the uni - the server wasn't sure if they had it which should have been a giveaway to not order as it was pretty NOT FRESH and we were barely able to choke it down. I also shared the sashimi salad with someone and it wasn't great as the pieces of fish were so tiny and cut up into pea size pieces. What a disappointment. We have been eating at Sushi Lounge since it first opened in Poway and now Pt. Loma. This experience has us never going back. Everything was sub-par. The quality of the sushi and sashimi was sub-standard and the preparation was obvious that the sushi chefs behind the counter had no idea what they were doing. When we first arrived, we were seated in a booth and the chefs and wait staff were standing around chatting loudly like they were at a picnic. Totally unprofessional. The sashimi came out in super thick slices - we sent out tuna back to be sliced more thinly as it had come out in 3" chunks! The rest of the sashimi was tasteless. The sushi roll was inadequate - you could tell they didn't know what they were doing as the hand roll was the same. I could go on but you get my drift. So disappointed - maybe the management has changed but training would be a great thing on both customer service and how to be a sushi chef. On the night of 12/08/2019, I placed a delivery order with Sushi Lounge through the use of Grubhub. At 8:40pm, I received a notification that the restaurant confirmed my order and that I should receive my food some time between 9:15pm and 9:25pm. At 9:46 pm, I received a phone call from Grubhub and been told that someone other than the Grubhub driver has picked up my order and, being that Sushi Lounge close at 9:30pm, they are unable to fulfill my order as previously confirmed. This restaurant is very unprofessional. If they could not fulfill my order, they should never have confirmed my order in the first place. They are also very irresponsible for giving the food that I had paid for to someone other than the Grubhub driver that was assigned to deliver my order. This was my first experience with Sushi Lounge and they have wasted my time and already have lost my trust in the way they handle their food orders and their restaurant operations. I highly suggest ordering from somewhere else for sushi delivery due to the extremely horrible service that Sushi Lounge has given me. read more

The Sushi Lounge in Point Loma gets a big five stars from us! The food was tasty and the portions large, but the real standout was the care that the staff put toward considerations for our food allergies. Sushi Lounge in Point Loma should be an example for other restaurants. Not only did they provide a totally separate (and extensive!) gluten-free menu, they even had different servers deliver food containing gluten from those that did not. Two different soy sauces were provided, one for our guests who did not have a gluten allergy, and a certified gluten-free soy sauce for us. The staff was prepared to answer questions related to ingredients and allergies, and were super polite and patient in dealing with our concerns. This alone would probably earn the Sushi Lounge five stars. But, also, the food was super tasty as well. The sushi rolls here are large, fresh, and well prepared. Really, all the way around, the dining experience at the Sushi Lounge in Point Loma was pleasure. Recommended! read more
