This place was good!! It is hard to find a good sushi restaurant; to me it is hard because I want fresh fish, plump sushi rolls, and well-rolled rice. Some places I have been to have had fish that is not so fresh/lukewarm raw rolls, skimped on the size and fullness of the rolls, and rice that falls apart while eating a roll. This place met my expectations and met all my requirements!! If I lived in Alpharetta still I would make this one of my go-to sushi spots for sure. Went here a couple weeks ago on a Sunday with my sister and her hubby who still live in the area and the food was delicious. We walked in right as the restaurant opened and were the first customers in there. They were still finishing set-up with is one reason they did not receive a full 5 star review (the other being that the house salad did not have much ginger dressing). I have worked in a restaurant that was slow and my experience was to ALWAYS have the store fully set-up on time regardless of how slow you expect it to be. Also, it was a random warm day and they had to keep the door open to let the AC kick in which I didn't like. The customer service was great, however. The server quickly greeted us and took our order. I ordered everything all at once since I knew what I wanted: the miso soup, house salad, spicy tuna roll and shrimp tempura roll. Typically their lunch special is only M-F but the server included my appetizers in with my meal like it was a M-F special even though it was a Sunday. I greatly appreciated that. Now, I wouldn't expect that to happen every time I eat there; I think it was a nice gesture since we had to wait to for the AC to kick in. Overall- yes, I would recommend this to others. read more

I would give this restaurant a 0 stars if I could. My husband and I are visiting from out of town and ordered take out from this place yesterday. We spent almost $60 and ordered 3 roll combo, Kani salad, edamame and fatty tuna sashimi. Was extremely disappointed in the quality of the food. Fatty tuna had a fishy taste where we threw away the food after my husband and I both having one piece. Called in to let them know and the lady proceeded to discount my concerns by saying 2 tables literally ordered it and didn't have any issues. My husband and I had stomach pains in the middle of the night. Called in again today and the same lady proceeded to discount my experience by saying the others didn't get sick and maybe it's us. I would not order from this place. I'm a business owner as well and was trying to give them a chance but the fact that she tried to discount my experience pushed me over the edge to post this review. I have eaten at Sushi Mania now about 6 times and I haven't had a bad meal yet!! Amazing food and service. Locally and family owned! They make you feel welcomed! Everything I have had is made fresh. The Bulgogi (barbecue) is so delicious I have eaten it 3 times so far and make sure to order the fried rice with it. The Sushi is hand made fresh at the sushi bar and has been absolutely amazing. I met a friend here for sushi one night. It's a small place with a dark moody atmosphere that's typical in sushi bars. We ordered one roll each but ended up staying a really long time. We stayed so long. I felt bad that we were taking up table space since the restaurant started to get super packed. The server was polite and didn't try to scoot us along. Oh yeah, there are some off menu items that I totally recommend. My friend got the Tammi roll and I ordered the Tammi II. The Tammi II has jalapeños and definitely had a kick. Sushi Mania just transitioned to John's Creek from Brookhaven, where they were apparently forced out by a Kroger expansion. I never visited the old location but stopped in the new place today for lunch. They are in a small space in the shopping center with Marlow's Tavern at the Old Alabama / Jones Bridge intersection. Service was very friendly and the hostess seated me at the bar. I like eating at the bar when ordering sushi because it's fun to watch the chefs prepare your fish. Good knife work is a spectacle worth enjoying. They offer lunch specials in the $8-9 range that include soup & salad with various assortments of sushi, sashimi, rolls, teriyaki, etc. I ordered the lunch combo featuring an assortment of 11 pieces of sushi and sashimi. You can specify which pieces you want, but I requested that the chef make the selection and surprise me. This is especially fun to do when visiting a new sushi place for the first time because it will tell you a lot about the restaurant, the menu and the chef. Sometimes you'll be pleasantly surprised and sometimes you'll be disappointed - but you'll know immediately whether it's the kind of place you want to visit again. The salad and soup came out first and they were pretty standard. I mostly focused on the chef preparing my entree because I could see that he was plating up a nice variety of fish. The presentation was terrific and my mouth was watering before the plate was even served to me. Everything was extremely fresh, well cut and flavorful. The selection included some salmon with roe, hamachi, hokkigai, buri, maguro, and even some anago. It was a nice variety of fish, clam and eel that gave me a well-rounded sampling of the menu. A small bowl of rice came on the side, and this was some of the best sushi rice I've had in the Atlanta area. Texturally it was perfect and it had a great flavor too. I usually don't gush over rice, but then again few restaurants really nail it like this place did. It wasn't particularly busy in the restaurant while I ate but I'm hoping that's because they just opened a couple of weeks ago. I'd like to see this location succeed because they're dishing up some terrific sushi at reasonable prices, and I could walk here if I wanted to. read more

My family and I went in on Easter Sunday for dinner, only to find the restaurant empty. It was our first time eating here and had our reservations, but I gotta say, we were all very impressed. I would say this is the best sushi restaurant in the Alpharetta/John's Creek area and will definitely be coming back. The sushi master/chef puts his own spin on all of the dishes, so don't expect to have the same cookie-cutter sushi taste with your orders, which is what impressed us the most. Here is all what we ordered, and every single one was outstanding, including the sake: Japanese Ceviche Chirashi Don Yellowtail with Jalapeno Alaskan Roll Gyoza (beef) Seared Tuna with Sesame Sauce Crunchy Rainbow Roll I would have to point out that the restaurant is very small. Awesome!! Came here last night on the weirdest and worst date in a while. Great food even with the misrepresented BBW sitting across from me and eating all of it!!;)). Prices are good. Be sure the owner is the chef. I ordered sashimi and the fish was frozen! I told the chef, a young man, and he admitted the fish was frozen laughed and didn't care. I was charged $24 for frozen fish and I'm pretty sure it was not even tuna. The young chef refused to identify himself as a chef and said he would tell the old man, the owner. It's sad. Yeah...NO! Decided to try this place which is right around the corner from our house and seeing the great Yelp reviews. Went in and sat at Sushi bar which was empty and the host cleared and wiped it down for us. After we sat, the sushi chef was not making sushi bc there were very few patrons in the place yet he didn't say a word to us. We sat for another 5 minutes and never got so much as a " I'll be right with you" from anyone. We promptly got up and walked out the door and then of course the server said "Oh I'm sorry is everything OK." Actually no it wasn't and will not be going back. Just awful. I can't believer no one else has experienced poor service from this place. I don't care how good the food is. There are lot's of good sushi restaurants in the area and I will gladly give my money to one of those. read more

We've had take-out a few times in the past and I convinced Kelly we should go to dine in. Ann, who always recognizes me, was a bit perplexed at first when she asked "table for two" and I said no, she then thought we were there for takeout again. I clarified we'd like to sit at the sushi bar. Promptly seated, she actually started our order before asking as she saw what I was writing on the card. They have some really good and unique takes on fusion sushi as well as traditional offerings. While we usually don't go in for the fried or sauced items we ordered the spicy tuna on crispy rice appetizer and it was excellent! Ordered a carafe of the Otokoyama cold sake, good value. Edamame, tempura and seaweed salad to start, we followed with some salmon and yellowtail nigiri. David, the sushi chef, added a bit of white tune and salmon sashimi to the plate - very nice. A little daikon would have been a good touch. We had the Japanese scallop roll and Spicy Tuna with Rock Shrimp Roll. Again, while not huge fans of fried, the tempura rock shrimp crab and sauce added a lot to the traditional spicy tuna roll - recommended! Finally we finished with a very well-prepared barbecued eel, excellent! Ann provided a second carafe of sake on the house, very generous - thank you again.
