Delicious! I'm writing this as I'm eating. I had Sushi Mania bookmarked but I had only gotten around to trying them out today. I got here at around 5:00pm on a Friday and it wasn't too busy. Service was good and fast. They have a dinner special for $11.95 which allows you to choose 3 items from a list with a miso soup included. If you come between 11:30-3:30, there are similar items for their lunch special which allows you to choose either 2 or 3 items at their respective prices. With a great variety of choices, I opted for the spicy salmon roll, yam tempura roll, and the tofu teriyaki. More than enough to fill you up! At least it was more than enough for me. My food was prepared quite quickly as well despite them having seemingly countless orders to-go and for pick-up. Everything was delicious. The miso soup came out first and the other food followed soon after. The miso was what you would usually get at other sushi restaurants but Sushi Mania didn't skimp out on the seaweed and tofu in it. There were 5 pieces of yam tempura roll which were quite substantial, they were stuffed quite full of yam tempura! Delicious and crunchy. The spicy tuna roll came with 8 pieces and a gochujang-like sauce for the spice. The salmon was fresh and a good contrast to the crunchy cucumber sticks inside the roll. The tofu teriyaki was done well with a crunchy batter on the outside and an almost-melt-in-your-mouth tofu texture. Delicious is all I can describe this meal as. Sushi Mania is a tiny hole in the wall restaurant in the heart of the restaurant district on Main Street (about Main and King Ed). I would say the restaurant doesn't hold more than 20 sit down customers and when we went on a Friday night there was a small line up. Take out is an option to consider. I went with 2 friends and we shared a sashimi sockeye salmon plate and a toro sashimi plate. Both were excellent! Fresh and prime cut pieces. Not too thick and not too thin they were heavenly and melt in your mouth quality. I ordered the pick your dinner option for $12. I had a miso soup, the chicken karaage, spicy salmon roll, and chicken teriyaki. Everything was good! No complaints! Service was quick and constant. Working on a jobsite nearby. Have ordered in the past from them and it was adequate. Recently , not so much so. The three item lunch box was somewhat of a joke. The spicey tuna rolls were mushy tuna in sriracha, the rice was glue, the tempura was three sweet potato rings. The beef teriyaki was cold fatty and pretty much horrible. The whole meal was so uninspired .( the miso soup was good , but, go figure..) Went to pick up at 12:15 .. peak hour, and the place was empty.. somewhat telling for a main street location. Seriously disappointing. The crows in my alley ate the rest of my lunchbox. The next day I drove all the way to Kits and preordered a #3 box from sushi Nova. Normally don't do any reviews like this but we came in ordered pick up, they said it was 25-30 minutes. Ok. No problem. Came back in 30 minutes and it turns out, they gave our pick up order to somebody else. No apology on their end whatsoever. Their service is atrocious. Really small space. 6 small tables that can sit 4 people. 2 chefs and 2 servers. Ordered takeout 6 items (mania roll, black dragon roll, bigbang roll, HOT roll, salmon sashimi and toro sashimi) at 6:07pm. We received our order at 6:16pm. The rolls tastes like places I normally go. Not mind blowing, but isn't bad at all. Overall, I give it a solid 3.5-4.0 star for price, taste, portion and service. read more

One of my go-to sushi restaurants. The location is so central, and the service is great. As a sushi lover, I am quite sensitive to their rice and protein ratio (and ratio to sauce if there's any) - i know it's cringe. But they nail it every time. The fish is fresh and the restaurant is tiny and cute. One thing that this restaurant stands out compared to others is their lunch and dinner sets. They are pick 2-3 items + miso from between $8-$12. I am definitely coming back here soon! I shared the Sunny Roll with my friend and I had the Sashimi combo (3 tuna, 2 salmon and 1 dynamite roll) + miso soup. I was stuffed and I ate everything (which is rare) because it's soooo good. Fresh. The sashimi pieces were huge and fresh and you can either choose the salmon (farmed or wild). The service was great - our tea was always filled and hot. Definitely will be coming back soon - in a heartbeat. read more

What's not to like about a sushi place with a heated bench?? Nothing! The food here is clean, fair priced and consistent. The service is also amazingly attentive. I love the sockeye sashimi. They've got a great selection of specialty rolls; my fav is the H.O.T roll. Their teriyaki and katsu are not overly drenched in a think sticky sauce and they've got a great selection of appies to appeal to everyone. I could go on and on about this place but would much rather you try it for yourself and share your experience. They also have a loyalty card that after 10 visits you get 10% off for life! read more

This was my first visit here. I was quite happy with the service and quality of food. As I walked in, I was cheerfully greeted by staff. I like that they offer takeaway. It has a small eating area for those who wish to dine in. I ordered the wild salmon & tuna sashimi with spicy sauce. It tasted fresh and good. Next time, however, I'll probably try it without the spice. I also tried the crunchy roll, which, for someone who likes crunchy textures, it was very satisfying. I couldn't even see the spicy tuna roll wrapped in rice because there were so many crunchy bits atop of it. This cost about $20 together, so it's not cheap sushi if that's what you're after. However, the crunchy roll alone is $8 and enough for one. I would like to return and try some of their other menu items. It seems like a solid local sushi spot. read more

I have been craving sushi so decided to stop by this place after a long walk on main st. Place is small and cute! Bf and I ordered your generic rolls: tuna avo, smoked salmon, unagi, spicy chopped scal, Alaska and spider roll (fb eats a lot). I like that the rolls are not huge. I also asked for less rice and they did just that!! My fave was the spider and Alaska roll. Unfortunately the chopped scal roll had a bit of a funky smell towards the end and also, veeeeeery small (almost as small as a negitoro roll). Other than that everything was great. Service was spectacular which really was the highlight of our dining experience :) Will go back next time I walk 16 blocks down main st! read more

Really great sushi! The rolls were great and nicely presented. The rolls are a decent size. The prices are good and the service was attentive. My tea was refilled all the time. It's not a huge place. Only a few tables and your party all has to be there before you get seated. So onto the rolls. The mania roll and black dragon rolls were delicious. And the Alaska roll(I got sock-eye for an extra .50) was good also I loved that ginger sauce on top. Chicken Karrage and agadashi tofu were also good. And for vegans/vegetarians the Veggie mega roll was well made. I would definitely be returning. As for now it's probably my favourite place for sushi. read more

Sushi Mania is probably our favourite go-to spot for sushi in Vancouver. We've been a couple of times recently and we usually order the sushi pizza, the BIGBANG roll, salmon sashimi, and the negitoro roll. If you haven't tried sushi pizza before you definitely need to try it, so delicious! The BIGBANG roll is another must try, the seared tuna is just so good. We've also had the mania roll, which is topped with seared scallops, not too bad either. Prices here are cheaper than most sushi joints, combined with the quality of food and great service we will be regular customers. Highly recommended! read more

Be aware that they raised their prices. I used to bypass the fact that they had super small portions because of the price but they raised basically everything by a substantial amount. My favourite toro sashimi used to be $10.95 and now it is $14.95. A $4 price increase was a huge shock to me! For the price I would much rather go to sushi garden as at least their portions make up for their price. Their quality is still the same but you can do better for the price in my opinion. Edit-it's actually a $4 price difference on sashimi so not $1-2 lmao. MUCH better options for the SAME price now. They are nothing special read more

I have been coming to this place since I was 15 and I have never gotten anything but amazing service. Great sushi, and they don't pile rice on the rolls so you feel better after leaving than most sushi places. I just read a review that they raised their prices. It's a $1-$2 increase on already extremely cheap food. After almost ten years in business in area wit raising rents its very fair of them to raise it this little. The quality is great and the prices still lower than most places. read more

This is our favourite place to get sushi in the neighbourhood. It's a small friendly place. Despite the size we don't often have to wait too long to be seated. They don't take reservations and if you don't have your group together, they won't seat you. I guess they want to keep people moving along, which works well if you just wanting to eat rather than socializing and hanging out. For the food: our favourite rolls are Alaska roll (I love the sesame ginger dressing they add and we always get wild salmon), dynamite roll, Mania roll (chopped scallops). The rolls are smaller than some places, but each roll has great flavour. They don't add a whole lot of sweet sauces and mayo, which makes me happy. We also always get Agadashi tofu and my husband likes the chicken teriyaki. You can get any roll made with brown rice which is great (although try telling my kids that). I've heard that the Crunchy Munchy roll is fantastic - I've yet to try it. Overall, highly recommended for tasty sushi. read more

Been here a few times now. The food itself is pretty decent, but the service is absolutely horrible. I shouldn't have to wait 10 minutes to order when your restaurant is a hole in the wall. The servers are very inattentive. The food also comes out extremely slowly. I shouldn't have to spend an hour and a half in your restaurant. You're not a fancy fine dining place! They pump out tons and tons of takeout so lots of food is being made. They seem to prioritize their takeout clients over their dine in customers as lots of people got food and left while I sat and waited....and waited...and waited... Overall, food is not bad. But the service has consistently gotten worse and worse over time. It's unbearable now and I won't be going back! read more

It's delicious sushi at a reasonable price. Everything that we ordered was delicious and of good quality. We went there twice during our vacation. Service was fine not much to complain about. Great little spot for a very tasty & reasonably priced lunch. I ordered the 3 item lunch combo; there are tons of items to choose from. I selected the dynamite roll, salmon sushi and chicken teriyaki with rice. This comes with miso soup. I upgraded the salmon to wild salmon for an extra 0.75 cents. The roll was good and the salmon sushi was very nice and fresh. The chicken teriyaki was hot and fresh, served on a bed of rice. The lunch combo individual item portions are smallish but altogether 3 items makes a satisfying lunch and very well priced under $10. It's a small restaurant and was busy at noon on a weekday when I went, but I was seated in about 5 minutes. The server was very friendly and the food came out really quickly. I wanted so badly to support this place as it's in the hood but the last visit really pissed me off royally when they decided to rip me off and give me an order of sashimi slivers for the price of a regular order. I should've seen the red flags when the workers started speaking mandarin to each other and smirking when I asked if they had toro sashimi. So instead of having any integrity, they said yes and proceeded to cut up a tiny piece of whatever they had left into slivers and threw it in a styrofoam box so when I got home, I was unpleasantly greeted by this massive scam. Shame on you sushi mania! Next time I hear the chant of 'shark fin shame' across the street, I will be starting up my own chant on this side of the street "sushi mania shame"! read more

A sushi place where everyone is mysteriously smiling according to Simon K.--colour me intrigued. I've been twice now, once for lunch and another time for dinner and I've been another smiling customer both times. I went with the two/three item specials...the dinner special has more selection but is also priced accordingly. Both menus are totally fair and the portions that you receive are full portions (i.e. six pieces per sushi roll). I usually order a roll or two plus a hot item. As others have mentioned, the service is really lovely...tea/water refilled frequently and the servers are sweet, even when it is very busy. It's a small place but I haven't had to wait for a seat yet--very cute inside. I found that all of the food was very fresh. I'd venture to say that it isn't the sort of place that I'd go out of my way to stop in but for sushi on Main near King Edward, it's a solid choice. Fresh fish, decent portion sizing, fair prices, great traditional as well as some izakaya-type offerings, and best of all - a heated bench for my cold bum on those rainy Vancouver days! Servers are Japanese with the expected Japanese manner - attentive, polite and gracious! Things of note: - A lot of the 'specialty rolls' are v similar on the inside - California roll-ish. Read carefully before you order more than one of these. - Same with the sushi pizza, it's very cool but also california roll-ish but with chopped tuna/salmon on top. Lets start with the important stuff: THE FOOD Tuna gomae: Surprisingly generous ratio of fish to spinach in this little appy (ie: 50:50)..and not overly drenched with sauce either. Gyoza: No one ever raves about gyoza and they always seem to fly under the radar, but these little babies were really quite good. They were smaller than the average gyoza, but light and crispy without being too soggy/oily...the gyoza skin was rather remniscent of very light potato chips (oddly enough!). Sushi: We had an assortment of nigiri and rolls, some with white rice and some with brown rice (+$0.25). The fish was fresh ...no rice overload here!! I love me some soft-shelled crab, and their Spider Roll delivers. The Philadelphia Roll was creamy, but as a cream cheese enthusiast, I felt the cheese to rice ratio was on the low side. This space has had a few tenants lately and these guys did a good job designing the place. The sushi seems fresh and everything is very tasty. A good selection of vegetarian choices too. Functionally adequate sushi for killing a craving. I got ruined by all the incredible fresh cuts and tightly bound rolls in Tokyo. Came here with 2 friends and ordered the party platter for 2-3 people. The wild salmon upgrade was a good idea for the nigiri. The white tuba was also very fresh. However the maki rolls had pieces of rice sticking out and the chopped tuna one was kind of overwhelmingly squishy. (Too much tuna in the roll vs rice) read more

I had the spicy tuna roll, chopped scallop roll and chicken teriyaki. I loved the chicken as it was very crispy and delicious. Wasn't too fond of the sushi as it had large pieces of cucumber in it. Would have liked more fish. Also, the rolls seemed a tad small but the taste was good. Service was pretty decent as the tea refills came often. One of my fave sushi joints in the city. I love their specialty rolls like the #1 Mania Roll which comes with torched scallops on top. All their specialty rolls are reasonably priced at $7.95 which is a good deal considering similar rolls can be priced more in the city. The only knock is the inconsistency of their regular rolls. The chicken teriyaki roll had burnt bits of chicken and was nearly inedible. The Alaska roll was so-so filled with only cucumber no avocado. Otherwise, the sashimi is fresh, appetizers like gomaee and karage are great. Pro-tip: sit on the bench and warm your butt! It's heated :) read more

Visited June 19 for lunch. Pros - Awesome lunch and dinner specials! You get to select 2 or 3 items from a list of 27 items! - Fast service - Great location along Main St for walking The server asked each of us "Do you want farm or wild salmon?" We all say wild. The server asked "Do you want white or brown rice?" We asked for brown rice. When the bill came there were unexpected surcharges, $1 for brown and and $0.50 for wild salmon. We told the waitress and she promptly removed it from our bill. I told them this is a dishonest practice to not advertise these charges on the menu and not telling customers that there is a surcharge before ordering. Cons - The menu and server do NOT list any surcharges for wild salmon or brown rice! Can the next reviewer verify if this practice has changed? Damage only $6.25, wow! read more
