Still wondering why I haven't found out about this place until now... The service was quick and polite, the food was hot and fresh, and they took care when I girlfriend told them about her fish allergy. (Who goes to a sushi spot with a fish allergy???) The Kamikaze Rolls for awesome! Crunchy and spicy! And they Pork Gyoza was so good that I ordered 2 servings of it. I am definitely coming back to try more of the menu items. read more

I use to order a lot from here but the lack of parking was always an issue and they're a bit expensive. I stopped coming after they refused to honor a $150 gift certificate because it was too old. Mind you it had no expiration date on it and never in a million years wpuld I think a gift certificate wpuld be too old to use. Won't be back. just moved close by from manhattan. I dined solo, ordered something basic/traditional (fresh salmon sushi) and something more american (Spider roll). The fish was fresh & slightly $$$ than what i'm used to. Service was great towards the end of my meal when the check was delivered, though initial entry the waitress asked my if i was ready 3x in 5 min as i was clearly reading the extensive menu. The service/waitstaff was unpleasant unfriendly, almost appeared pissed, which ruined my experience especially bc i was dining alone. Overall ambiance was decent, untraditional, old frank sinatra music playing, and it was chilly to the point that i had to keep my jacket on. I tried sushi mikes for the second time, and WOWZA!! Everything was amazing. I got the spicy tuna with crispy rice, and this time the rice was cooked/crispy in a much better way- SO yummy. I tried the dumpling soup, delicious, and the mushrooms were a great addition. They included extra soy sauce per my request, which made my meal complete perfection. I'm obsessed, and currently placing my order for another round tonight. So excited! read more

Excellent food. We prefer it for take-out rather than eating in, because it's a very small space, and (although the staff doesn't rush you) we always end up feeling like we shouldn't linger, because there are usually people waiting for tables. This is my go-to spot for sushi when in Westchester. The sushi is consistently of good quality and the staff is phenomenal, and love to joke around. Regulars are treated extra special, just like they should. Ive only ever been here for lunch but have been here on many occasions. If you do the same skip the lunch specials on the menu and request the off menu daily special lunch box, different each day. The food there was fabulous.  I had the sushi deluxe and it was such a great meal!  The pieces were huge and it came with a tuna roll, miso soup and salad.  Mmm delicious!  What I didn't like is the outdoor seating had long tablecloths on it.  On the long black tablecloths there was a smaller white cloth, I guess to make the table look prettier.  It was a very windy day yesterday.  The tablecloths were blowing all around.  I told the waitress to remove the cloths so I could feel more comfortable but she said the cloths must stay on.  Why?  I am one of the more covid phobic people.  If it's due to covid, all you have to do is clean the table every time someone uses it and that will suffice.  Also the same tablecloths remain on all day for all customers?  They don't change those tablecloths after each table leaves as I noted.  Maybe their tables were ugly underneath, the real reason they didn't want to remove the cloths but I am unsure.  All I know is I wasn't made to feel as comfortable as I could have been.  Additionally there was a guy outside drunk and kept walking up and down that street corner along the restaurant tables while I was eating.  I know he was drunk because his friend who came out of nowhere after 20 minutes, apologized to me for him being so drunk.  He was smoking on the corner too.  He was talking to himself....talking to me.  I tried to ignore him.  I would have opted for indoor dining but Sushi Mike's doesn't offer that nowadays. I was unsure if he was dangerous at one point.  The staff there was oblivious.  They are not aware of their own surroundings and didn't even notice him.  In fact most of them were inside either sleeping or on lunch. Service is great, everyone is friendly, attentive, and fast. Especially the owner whose warm greeting sets the tone for a great meal. The quality of the fish is very noticeable. This place is very popular and always looked packed every time I passed by. Luckily I went here for lunch and it was not so busy. It's a small restaurant, but very cute and the wall paintings are beautiful. I loved that I felt like I was under the sea, the food was really good, I got a bento box and it was very filling! Two and a half hours after ordering, they called us to tell us the order was was ready. By this time we were home and had made other dinner arrangements so we told them to cancel the order. Wow. Dreadful. Fujinoya in Hartsdale has become my friends and my go-to sushi place when I go up to see them. Seeing as we were there only 5 days ago, we decided to Yelp some other place to try. Sushi Mike's came up with a 4.5 star rating and glowing reviews. Tempura dipping sauce was overwhelmingly sweet. Never had tempura dipping sauce that sweet before. It should be just a hint of sweet, not the entire thing. Zaru soba dipping sauce may have been the same sauce because it was just as sweet. Noodles were overcooked. The sushi rice was decently cooked but lacked the taste more authentic sushi places have. Rolls were okay. A lot of embellishment to them. A la carte sushi comes in one piece and the sashimi comes in three. I don't know the logic behind that. The only raw fish I had was yellowtail and smoked salmon and both were fine in terms of freshness. The guy who was sitting there on his laptop, who I assume was Mike, greeted us when we entered. He then started speaking to us in a bunch of different languages including Spanish. When we left, he spoke to us in what I think was Vietnamese. It was surreal. Service was not good. We were randomly rushed throughout the meal. Bill came out to $90 for two of us. I probably wouldn't be writing this review if it was about $60. Bottom line: Not an authentic place. Sticking to Fujinoya. Big Mike, if you want to know what languages I speak, please ask me appropriately. read more

After reading some Yelptastic reviews I tromped down to Mikes with an idea that I'd be pleasantly delighted with my Sushi---sorry, not the case. We waited a while for our delights and I found my Sushi rice dry, without the sticky it needs to adopt the seafood. My Tempura was pasty (almost as in underdone) and the sauce was too sweet to complement my shrimp. The specialty rolls were good...and I love the green tea. Disappointing. Those who reviewed this place and said the fish was "very fresh" or "best sushi" let me down. Sushi Mike's fish is no better than any other run of the mill restaurant that serves sushi. I can point to Fujinoya in Hartsdale as an easy example of sushi that is better. You can go to Daido in White Plains and get fresher sushi. That's not to say that it's terrible, but it doesn't stand out in any way. It is definitely not "very" fresh, just passably so. At least Mike's prices correspond to the quality. It's too bad that the sushi here is not very good, because the service is excellent. Our waitress was very attentive and well organized. And she kept giving us those wet napkins while we handled a lobster. 20% tip for you; unfortunately, I will never see you again. The lobster miso soup (with a split lobster in the soup) is very good and perhaps the only creatively interesting item. The "gyoza" was good too; frankly they are actually Chinese dumplings, and unlike most Japanese restaurants their "gyoza" had a meaty flavor. This isn't a "Japanese" restaurant, in that the staff are speaking Mandarin and I think they're Taiwanese. Excellent! Informal place with about the best sushi we've ever had. Fresh, flavorful, large portions. Walked in 820pm Saturday and no tables available inside or out, so I guessed the locals think well of it. We were seated quickly even as three more couples arrived. It's not that Dobbs Ferry is hopping, it's just that Sushi Mikes is the place. We'd just stumbled in while driving south on the Saw Mill. Companion ordered the Sampler A, I had the "Sushi Mike Specialty Roll" plus a plain ol Tuna Roll. Oh! Melts in the mouth. Stunning. Large wine list too. Service top notch and a lot of it. Best sushi ever. I've eaten at very expensive sushi restaurants in New York City and none compare to Mike's. I don't eat or even like cooked fish dishes. The only time I make an exception to eat fish is for Mike's - the sushi is always the freshest and every piece is literally perfection. The Fantastic Roll is exactly that. The Mt. Fuji Roll is my personal favorite, along with Baby Yellowtail sushi (if they have it that day). Seaweed salads, Dumpling Soup, and Shrimp Shumai are staple apps every time we go. For those who aren't sushi eaters, the noodle dishes and entrees are great too - no need to feel left out at Mike's. Great atmosphere, great location, great place. This is easily one of the best sushi spots I've had the pleasure of visiting in the greater New York area. I was treated to a business dinner here and was therefore able to order whatever the hell I desired. I couldn't have been more lucky. The decor is really nice; despite the small size of the restaurant (I'm not sure if they take reservations - but that would be a wise route to take), there is a really nice ambience that evokes a nautical theme which is perfect for the riverside town of Dobbs Ferry. We started with some appetizers to share......the red snapper tempura was AWESOME. Best appetizer on the table hands down. We then had the tuna tartar which was small for its price, but equally good. The broiled squid was also fantastic. Then it was time to test how good Mike's sushi/sashimi is..... HITS THE TARGET COMPLETELY. Wow. I am generally not a fan of trendy sushi rolls (in my opinion the east coast hasn't yet grasped the concept that sometimes, when it comes to sushi presentation, less is more) but these simply blew me away. The fish was noticeably fresher than most sushi places which drove the feeling of the meal in your mouth. Followed by some very, very unique toppings (the S&S roll, which I had, is topped with five different types of caviar) that blend ridiculously well. A big plate of eel and yellowtail sashimi was text. Fully lived up to the first two parts of the meal. Finally, for desert, we had four different types of mochi ice cream. When we ordered it I was picturing a scoop of ice cream with some mochi sprinkled on top, a la Red Mango. But how wrong I was....this is ice cream literally ENCAVED in a mochi coating. We had vanilla, mango, red bean, and green tea (if my memory serves me right). The texture of this dessert was so unique and exquisitely delicious that I could not even wrap my head around it. A-ok is the perfect description for Sushi Mike's. I randomly found myself in the neighborhood and relying on the Yelp app on my phone, found myself here for dinner. After quickly checking the menu I was very excited by noticing several special rolls I had never tried before and so, I was willing to look past the somewhat expensive prices because, hey, no sushi like new sushi, amirite? I was wrong. I had the Fantastic Roll and Sushi Mike's Special Roll. The first thing I noticed is that while the prices are...somewhat pricey, you do get a lot of pieces. Both rolls came with 8 pieces. I got the Fantastic Roll because it was mentioned in a few reviews on here. It is a white seaweed roll with tuna, yellow tail, salmon, cucumber, avocado, Japanese mayonnaise and flying fish roe. With all of those ingredients I mistakenly assumed this roll would be flavorful, but it was actually rather bland. I felt like I was eating a rich man's California roll. The Sushi Mike's Special Roll contains shrimp, avocado, smoked eel and smoked salmon. This one I ordered because I'm a big fan of all the ingredients and, surprise surprise, it was the better of the two. The one problem I had with this roll was that the smoked eel wasn't distributed evenly, or anywhere near evenly, leading to some pieces tasting much different/better than others, depending on how much eel was on. The placement of the eel was also tricky as far as navigating the chopsticks. I've seen a few other reviews mention the service and the chef in particular, but I didn't think the service was noteworthy and while I saw the chef stop at a couple tables, he just kind of glanced in my direction without coming back. Also, somewhat related pro-tip, if you are stopping at Sushi Mike's on your way to Mercy College and it's after dark, don't use the shortcut to campus directly across from Sushi Mike because you may or may not be in for one of the most terrifying walks of your life where you are forced to call everyone in your phone book as you attempt to navigate the pitch black darkness only to be told by such persons that by being on your phone you seem less aware of your surroundings thus making you a more likely event butohmygoditssodarksopleasestayonthephone. read more

I came here last Saturday for a friend's birthday and had a really great dinner. Our party of 6 was sat right near the door and it was great that they put a little curtain around our table to give us some privacy. Our waitress came over very quickly and handed us each a warm towelette to wipe our hands...love it. We decided to all begin with miso soup, seaweed salad, or a house salad, then ordered a variety of specialty rolls and a chicken dish. I ended up ordering the S & S roll for myself (tuna, avocado,salmon, topped with 5 different kinds of caviar, seaweed salad, tempura crunch, spicy mayo and eel sauce). This roll was AMAZING and I was thrilled to be trying so many different types of caviar. It was so filling and all of the different tastes and textures went together perfectly. If you like to experiment with sushi I would definitely recommend trying this one out. It will make you feel like you're a Top Chef/Sushi connoisseur :) Now if only I could figure out how to use chopsticks... Sushi Mike's loses a star because I felt like we were a little rushed -- we may have been in and out of there in 40 minutes. I know it's sushi but that's still a pretty short dinner for a group of 6. My plate actually got taken away from me as I was chewing my last piece of sushi, and it would have been nice to be able to relax a little more. Really terrible service and sushi rolls were not big or great, as I had thought from the reviews. Cozy but very cramped on a busy Saturday night. The waitress served us an octopus dish we did not order. When I told her we did not order this and asked what it was she rudely told me ' you did order this -- this is your octopus'. My bf is too nice and gave in and told her it was fine, we would keep it. Heck if I wanted overly expensive raw octopus! This was terribly handled by the waitress. The pork gyoza were so-so- tasted way too much of bad oil to me. The rainbow roll - I've had much better and many other restaurants. The other specialty roll- a couple of the pieces just did not taste fresh and left a bad aftertaste. Just very glad I didn't get sick the next day! No need for rudeness from a waitress, and if it was a language barrier, she should have at least been more polite about it. As for the rolls, they were absurdly expensive for the quality. read more

Recently went here for the first time. Staff was very nice and accommodating. I usually never order spicy tuna due to most places going over the top with mayo. Sushi Mikes Spicy Tuna roll was amazing and spicy! It reminded me of my favorite Japanese restaurant called Naniwa which unfortunately shut its doors a few years ago in NYC. The spicy tuna roll was flavorful and packed a punch. Their miso soup was flavorful and tasted like homemade miso soup. If it's someone's birthday, they serve a cake, take a picture, and slap it in a card. My father still has his. 8. I've never had a bad meal here. 9. I drive 30 minutes to get here because it stands so much taller than the rest in Westchester. 10. There are plenty of pleasant servers and you are never waiting for anything: the only way any restaurant should be run. My friend's have been raving about Sushi Mike's for a long time. Tonight I went with them to try it out for myself. It was amazing! The sushi was so fresh and everything was so tasty. I tried 2 of the Chef's Specialty rolls. The S&S Roll consisted of a tuna, avocado, and Salmon roll topped with 5 different types of caviar, seaweed salad, tempura crunch w/spicy mayo and eel sauce. It was out of this world! I also had a French Dynamite roll, which is eel, avocado and crab wrapped in seaweed and rice with the chef's secret sauce. This was also excellent and very filling. My friends ordered other specialty rolls which looked equally amazing. Reservations can be made for 3 or more people, and I strongly suggest it. We were there on a Wednesday night and it was PACKED. Finally, I have to mention Mike. Mike is a very tall jolly Asian man who knew everyone by name as they entered his restaurant. He would yell, "Name, what's up?!?" Come over to shake their hand and then seat them. He was so happy to see whoever walked in the door, as if they were his long lost friend.
