Chuwanmushi
Jenny T.

Sushi Noguchi is tucked away, deep in Yorba Linda. Although quite a drive for myself. I found this drive and place to be rather peaceful and serene. The quality of fish found here is quite immaculate. The quality of all the fish I ordered à la carte were phenomenal! The yellowtail in jalepeno sauce was delicious; although I was disappointed the chili flakes from the jalepeno had been scooped out, the flavors were still there and the sauce was still a hint spicy. The crab hand roll was near perfection! Lots of crab pieces, perfect amount of rice, and topped with avocado. The chuwanmushi was silky and divine; it was filled with white mushrooms, and seafood. The egg custard was so yummy with that dashi flavoring; I felt like I was back in Japan. Everything pictured are my absolute favorite pieces to order at any sushi restaurant. Since coming back from Japan, I stopped eating sushi here in the states, but after visiting Sushi Noguchi, I'm very happy to be having it again here!

Food was good, first impression was not so good. We arrived when opened at 5 pm on Saturday and when we walked it it smelt like a fish store. We understand that it is a sushi restaurant and they serve fish, I just think the ventilation should be checked or improved. We did not go with omakase because we know what we like. We ordered giant clam, chutoro salmon belly, yellowtail belly, sea bream, ikura, blue crab roll and sashimi salad, also 2 bottle of Kubota sake. It was just over $250, plus tax and tip. Fish was good, fresh and Jason was very kind and generous and quick with the knife, we were served fast. Place looks clean and bright. We have had better sushi, Rowland heights has several better restaurants. Noguchi is good but a little over priced I think.

Premium Omakase

Ordered: - 2x premium omakase (3/5) Scallop - Sweet flavor but covered by the sauce on top Salmon - The salmon was pretty basic and a little stringy Yellowtail belly - In our opinion, the best cut! Very smooth and thick but also slightly crunchy. Spanish mackeral - Interesting flavors which worked, but was too fishy even under the ginger scallion dressing. Amberjack - Second favorite piece, we liked the yuzu pepper on the amberjack that left a spicy note to the cut. The amberjack was also of decent quality. Yellowtail - Very thick cut, we liked the firmness of it Golden eye snapper - Very crunchy, but also somehow as dry as a cardboard. Could have tasted better with sauce because it was pretty flavorless. Negitoro hand roll - This was our third favorite piece. The negitoro had a very generous portion, though the seaweed was not the crispiest so we struggled to take some bites. --- Overall (3/5): One of the weaker omakase spots. I had a scallop allergy and they replaced my scallop with bluefin tuna, which was a minus. Based off my other omakase experiences, I would have expected a higher quality substitute for scallop. The omakase set didn't come with toro too, which is honestly kind of baffling considering I've had omakase at half the price with toro. The rice was also cold and hard and did not taste fresh, and the ratio of rice to fish was not great. If this was the quality of the premium omakase set we'd be pretty afraid of what the cheaper omakase sets taste like. The service was nice enough and we were the only ones in the restaurant at the time so was quiet and private which we liked. Overall, the sushi was just ok and I definitely wouldn't return for a premium omakase experience.

The quality of seafood is fresh! Top of the quality! I was seated at bar and I can fully enjoy the omakase process. The sushi chief always asked my oppinion and introduce my the food. I love it very much.

Amazing service by sushi chef Jason. We had the Crispy Spicy tuna, Blue Fin triolet (amazing), and Yellowtail in Jalapeño sauce! Nice calm atmosphere with great food.

Sushi quality Service Ambiance Second visit here - and it reminded me that this should be our go-to sushi spot. I love a mom & pop vibe and the owners (husband & wife) have apparently been around/ sushi Noguchi has been around for many years. The walls are decorated with family pictures (check out the one of the chef in the 70s in his Skyline!) through the eras.. She is the only server (and there's a busser) so service can be a bit slower -- but then you also get to enjoy her little stories when you ask questions about the pictures on the wall or whatever else. They are the sweetest. I hear the Hiro omakase is a great choice BUT we had a movie to catch across the way and you just can't rush an omakase... so we opted to order from the menu. Some seasonal stand outs were the Negitoro with Caviar. I didn't think I could love caviar more but to be placed on a bed of buttery toro is just *chefs kiss* -- we also fell off our chairs for the golden snapper. I'm a huge snapper fan but this one takes the cake. I need more before it goes out of season. Other favorites: otoro, jumbo scallops, crispy spicy tuna. It wasn't too busy for a Saturday night (although we were there 5:30-7) but again since the owner is the only server it can take a bit longer. We definitely will be back for some omakase though!!

I've been coming to Sushi Noguchi for a years now. Solid place for great quality sushi and they always made us feel welcome. We bring our friends here whenever someone is in the mood for great sushi and omakase. Hiro and Jun (owners) are always so friendly. Recently we came in for Valentine's Day and ordered the Valentine Omakase special. It was delicious per usual. We sat at the sushi bar and had the pleasure of being seated in front of Hiro. Everything was so fresh and tasted great. We had a seaweed starter, sashimi set, 2 sets of nigiri, and 2 hand rolls (uni and otoro). We were so stuffed and felt like it was definitely worth the price. Plenty of parking in the plaza. Would definitely recommend reservations on holidays. It was super busy on Valentine's Day. They are a great option for takeout orders as well. We ordered Hiro's omakase during the pandemic and it was so good! We live about 10-15 min away and the food held up great.

Always awesome sushi. Cuts of fish were great and in season. The rice was seasoned well and had a good bite. Price was decent and the reservations are easy to get. Service was attentive and we're accomadating to my little children. Loved the simplicity of the decor and modern look. Quiet and nice place for a date. Great sushi right in the middle of Yorba Linda. We've been here 3 times and love it.

We ordered: Premium Assorted Sashimi Rainbow & Crunchy Rolls Agedashi Tofu Mixed Tempura Grilled Amberjack Collar Miso Cod Chawanmushi I would describe this experience as high quality, small portions, and pricey. Save it for special occasions and don't expect to fill up unless you have a small stomach. I was very impressed with the flavor and texture of the sashimi and the fish on the rainbow rolls. Agedashi tofu and Chawanmushi were quite flavorful and perfectly executed. The miso cod and grilled hamachi collar were okay, I've had better versions. Service was good and I would recommend making a reservation.

Scallop sushi (nigiri)
Phil C.

It's been a minute since my last visit, but I dined here recently and had a wonderful experience. We made reservations for dinner, and everything was set up when we arrived. We looked through the menu and decided on some nigiri, hand rolls, tempura, starters, and a couple of beers. The sushi tasted fresh and well prepared, and the nigiri were decently sized. I enjoyed the Baked Blue Crab Handroll and the Agedashi Tofu. Overall, everything was delicious. We had one child with us; his order was the karaage (fried chicken) plate for kids. The staff was excellent, and the owner greeted us and ensured everything was going well. This is a solid sushi restaurant. with a relaxed atmosphere, and I hope to return to try the omakase and other offerings.

Dined there with a Tokyo native. He said the fish quality would be top rated in Japan.

Ask the Community - Sushi Noguchi

Can they accommodate a gluten allergy?

I think sashimi is gluten free and they buy only quality fish regularly plus they have a large menu for GF'ers to chose from. I say give it a try.

This place is listed today as having outdoor seating. Is it still available? If it is, is it covered or heated? How many people can sit there? / April 10, 2023?

Good morning. We do not have a patio but we can serve outside.

How is the quality of take out here?

Amazing 1,000,000,000,000,000,000 out of ten and it tastes so fresh.

Is there usually a wait here for dinner?

Def. yes on weekends. Better to get there early before 6. Also depends on party size.

Do they serve the lunch special menu on the weekends?

They open at 5:00 on the weekends but are open for lunch Tuesday through Friday.

Our server wasn't very personable but also not rude or terrible. I felt a little rushed even with a small menu. Being that I had never been there before, I wasn't sure what to get so I pretty much just blurted out whatever. What we ordered: 1) Black deluxe chicken paitan with pork - the broth was so tasty, it was absolutely delicious. The pork slices were generous, however, it was DRY. 2) Pork chashu - for my kid. They loved the broth as well and also felt that the pork slices were dry. I wanted to give 4 out of 5 stars, but I am going to hand them a 3. I loved the tasty broth, but the pork was too dry. How could you mess that up as a ramen restaurant? The portions looked a little smaller than what I am used to paying for much less money. That photo of my black deluxe chicken paitan with pork is very deceiving. It looks like a lot, but it definitely wasn't. I usually can't finish my bowl of ramen in one sitting and take the other half home. I barely had any broth in there, and being that the broth was very good, I was disappointed to run out of it before I was even done with the noodles and meat. Would I return? Sure. I liked the food. It's not a place I would go out of my way to eat at, but if I was around the neighborhood and wanted ramen, I would dine there again.

The Yellowtail Jalapeño was perfectly spicy and had the umami I appreciate. The micro greens and tomato were nice additions to the plate. The Coconut Shrimp Roll had coconut shrimp, coconut mayo, and shaved coconut. This was a surprisingly delightful combination. The Lemon Salmon Roll was very good, but could've benefited from a sauce. We were told to choose one sauce to go with our meals. I went with a shrimp bowl and ginger sauce. We sat down and were chit chatting. The cashier brought our sauces and forks. Then we waited and waited and soon it had been over 30 minutes with no food in sight. We decided we couldn't dine in and would be eating hibachi at our desks. I told the cashier to pack our food to go cause we had to get back to the office. She was VERY apologetic and said they had new cooks who were slow. When she brought the food to our table, she again apologized, said she really wanted us to come back, and said Tuesday and Wednesday are their busiest days. She recommended we come on a Monday so we would have more time to dine in. To compensate she gave us a bag filled with at least 20 sauces, multiples of each sauce on the menu. Made it back to work with 5 minutes to spare! I slowly grazed on my food as I worked. Had I been starving, I could have finished the bowl, but I ended up having about 1/4 left, breakfast for tomorrow! The food was really good, on par with any sit down hibachi restaurant. I tried the ginger sauce, teriyaki sauce, and garlic butter, all of them were really tasty. The shrimp bowl on it's own is $23, which I think is too much. But I would definitely go back for the 2 for $25 deal, I think that's worth it. Glad my coworkers brought me here, i'm looking forward to having it for lunch again!
