Location: 4: In a strip mall on the Southeast corner of Ventura and Corbin. Self-parking in the shopping plaza is limited but usually OK for dinner time as many of the other shops in the plaza close early (Sushi Spot is currently only open for dinner, Tuesday thru Saturday), only major culprit being the 7-11 there. Street parking is very limited. Venue: 4: Nice and comfortable. Good size sushi bar area as well as tables. No outdoor seating. Food: 5: Great, high quality, exotic and unique fish selections, creative and tasty preparations. Excellent, top notch high quality nigiri and sashimi. Tasty and unique appetizers, Limited menu of hand-rolls, specialty rolls and cooked plates. You can sit at the bar and enjoy a high quality Omakase experience by Master Chef Taku-san himself or choose a table and order on your own. Either way you can't go wrong. If you are at the sushi bar but not by Taku-san, Chef Mika-san is also excellent. Prices are a little expensive but more or less on par with other higher quality Japanese restaurants. Drinks: 5: Beer (on tap and in bottles), wine, sake, shochu. No spirits. You can purchase a large bottle of shochu (a better value than the smaller bottle) and they will put your name on it and hold it for your next visit :) Service: 5: Servers and sushi chefs are polite and attentive and eager to make recommendations. The Last Word 5: Sushi Spot fulfills a nice niche in the crowded landscape of sushi restaurants in the San Fernando Valley. Unlike most other Japanese restaurants here, their approach is a little more towards the traditional and purist side. The ingredients and the overall quality are consistently very high. If you are in the mood for good quality and unique nigiri and sashimi, this is the place. If you're looking for huge sauce-drenched, over the top rolls with cute and funny names, this is not the place but trust me; there are several other restaurants along the same stretch that would fulfill your cravings! Very highly recommended!

The food was amazing so good if this was a school I would give it an A+++++ The timing of how all the dishes came out was excellent perfect timing. I will definitely be returning later on this week lol

Always perfect! This is the place to visit if you're anywhere in the SFV and craving sushi done right. Every visit feels like a reminder of what real balance tastes like -- their signature warm rice complements the freshness of the fish in such a unique, almost comforting way. It's not just about great ingredients; it's the way everything is crafted -- thoughtful, consistent, and quietly elegant. Whether it's a casual lunch or a late dinner, this spot always feels like the right choice.

We had a wonderful date night at Sushi Spot. It was our first time back in a long time. Still the same freshness in their seafood and presentation. Friendly people and atmosphere with excellent service. We enjoyed a variety of items. Honestly, everything is delicious here. Explore the menu!

From the outside looking in it looks like a real hole in the wall, and if you're a sushi pro you know those are the BEST! It's confirmed. They have a 4 way toro that's is a MUST. The blue crab hand roll (lite rice), soft crab shell and green tea ICED. Make sure you make a reservation cause they fill up even right when they open

I haven't been here in 10-15 years and the sushi is still awesome! Definitely recommend hitting up the sushi spot if you are looking for a great meal in Tarzana. We walked in at 7pm without a reservation on Saturday and they offered us a table for 45 mins before their next reservation. So glad we got to crush that sushi craving. We got a few orders of the rice cakes, salmon sushi, scallop sushi, hand rolls and a cut roll. ~$80 after tax and tip. They also offer an omakase experience at the sushi bar for $60

Skipped the regular menu and went straight for the Omakase Course!

After a week long camping trip in the great outdoors, I was beyond excited to have sushi as my 1st meal back!! We were on the way to LA, but decided to try Sushi Spot in Ventura because of its raving reviews. I must say... This restaurant definitely lives up to its hype! Sushi Spot is a cute little mom & pop's shop that's been in business for decades. They serve fresh ingredients and great quality fish. Each dish is prepared almost to perfection! The service is outstanding and the place is well kept. It was mid-November and the weather was a bit chilly. They set up outdoor dining to follow Covid-19 safety restrictions and provided heaters for each table. There were also large umbrellas to shield guests from the wind. The staff all wore masks and gloves. I got the Omakase Course. 14 different types of Nigiri Sushi: 4 Way Tuna - Toro - Chu-Toro - Tuna - Negi-Toro YellowTail Belly Kampachi Red Snapper Scallop Bonito Albacore Uni Ikura Sardine Ocean Trout In addition, we had 1/2 dozen Pacific Oysters for an appetizer, an order of Amaebi (2 pieces) and a Spicy Tuna on Fried Rice Cake. Everything was beyond delicious. It was absolutely "melt in your mouth" sushi. It felt like a dining experience, in Japan. If I lived in the surrounding areas, this would definitely be my go-to spot for fresh sushi! See what I did there.... Hence the perfect business name, SUSHI SPOT! Big ups to Chef Taku and Sous-chef Mika for the great food preparation, excellent presentation and the delicious meal. We had outstanding servers: Albert and Evelyn, who were very attentive and professional throughout our visit. I would highly recommend eating at Sushi Spot! Try them once and you'll be hooked!

Decided to do an updated review just to cosign everything I said in my initial statement and add some pictures. This place is still my all time favorite. This last weekend, Yellowtail Belly was one of the specials and lord have mercy-- it was SO goodddd. I swear the Salmon nigiri we got tasted like Salmon Belly. 10's across the board. I will say, I tried the "fried soft shell crab" with ponzu for first time. You can SKIP this dish. Nothing to rave about-- maybe if the ponzu was on the side instead of on the actual crab-- it'd be better, but it was super salty since it was on top of it. I'd say spend that $13 on more sushi or another side lol.

Sushi Spot is located in a strip mall near Taft High School on Ventura Blvd. You can order by phone for pick up. It's worth it. Ordered the following and it made me realize just how much I miss sushi. Anacado Roll Special Roll Tuna Roll Spider Roll One of them is "keto" if you're on a special diet. Two of these rolls have sauces that go with them. The lady thoughtfully labelled the sauces and wrote on the tray which sauce should go on which roll. The rolls were great without them - I couldn't wait til we got home to get started so I started without sauce. But once you put the sauce on, it's just extra!

3.5 stars. I called last minute for a table and the receptionist made available a table for us. That was very accommodating and nice. Very nice service and getting. We ordered omakase. The fish was pretty fresh. There were as many cooked food was raw ones. The order of dishes didn't make sense though. One would want more subtle dishes ahead of more strong flavored ones but that's not the case. It was back and forth between raw and cooked food. I didn't appreciate that. I was also questioning the regular tuna that really does nothing.

I have been here a couple times, and they always have good quality and lots of choices.... And always always fresh..... located in the shopping center. This place has been around for 34 years so very consistent and professional service and very attentive and the quality ingredients with the fresh fish is always on point.... I sat at the sushi bar and I left it to the chef with a Omakase and everything was delicious because Sushi is all about quality..... price was very reasonable and it was well worth it so keep up the good work and I will be back and Arigato

The fish is so fresh here it honestly shocked my core. You cannot go wrong with the quality and flavor of the food they offer here. Started off the meal with a tuna trio that was listed at the bar and it was out of control. also got a seared garlic tuna, which probably was one of my favorite things on the menu. The sauce itself was something I could bathe in. after much deliberation ended up trying to just eat roll and absolutely was to die for. so shocked by the quality and flavor of the food here that I had to get their signature so what roll just to see what was going on. It is obvious that this place has regulars because the staff is very friendly and says welcome back knowing that they were just there on last Thursday. there is a parking lot with lots of parking, but beware of the tight spots. all in all this is one of my new favorite spots, and I will be back here again to try all the good food because as I saw people's orders, I could not help and think I need to try that.

I LOVE SUSHI...and it really doesn't matter if it's Ralphs, Nobu, or Kura Revolving Sushi...HOWEVER!!!!!!!!!! and I mean this, HOWEVER!!!!!!!! Miho is the only spot that matters if you are looking for a place to go that's not stupid expensive or mediocre quality just to get your fix. Miho IS EXACTLY the opposite of that. Miho is well priced, pinnacle quality and exceptional service!!!! It's a small hole in the wall off of Ventura Blvd in Tarzana and although we were hesitant at first, we decided to give it a shot. How could a sushi join in a largely jewish strip mall be any good...well, because they're some of the nicely, most talented Chefs, that how! The presentation of the rolls, the nigiri and the sashimi is gorgeous and if you sit at the bar the speed the sushi comes out makes you feel like you're the only person in the restaurant (who wouldn't like that?). We had to wait about 15min to get in, there's typically a wait but it's a wait well worth it and honestly it's more exciting this way. Plenty of Parking...unlike Nobu or Sugarfish or Katsuya type places so why waste the time....Good idea GO TO MIHO instead. Support your local shops, Miho is the spot! Go! Thank me later!

Given the price and quality, it would be hard for me to come back for lunch when there are so many options along Ventura Boulevard, or even if I'm willing to drive a little farther to Sawtelle, Little Tokyo, or Gardena for Japanese skewers. One other downside: the restrooms don't have baby changing tables, making it less convenient for families with infants. At first glance, it's pretty small in there, but I never felt uncomfortable. They were playing some cool lo-fi beats that weren't too loud -- no one was screaming at each other over the music. The guy taking my order was super cool and attentive; he kept checking in and was on top of the beer situation. I'd read other reviews saying the service was terrible, but in my honest opinion, he was great. I also read that people weren't happy with the owner. I could see how he might rub people the wrong way, but he mostly just kept to himself -- we only spoke when he picked up my plates. Some things I ordered really stood out, while others were just mid -- not bad, but they didn't have that wow factor. Standouts: the salmon belly (highly recommend), the beef wagyu, the gyoza (I know, it's gyoza, hard to mess up, but I've had bad gyoza before), the amberjack (best I've had), and the yellowtail carpaccio, which was bomb. The only thing that I didn't really like was the soy sauce ramekin, it was difficult to dip my sushi in it. It's too small and square. All in all, I'd recommend this place to a friend if they're in the area, and I'll be coming back.
