I'm a sushi fiend and I'm famous for ordering late night delivery. Sushi Star was the answer to my craving. The rolls were fresh and the sushi rice actually had flavor unlike so many local places where it usually lacks. It wasn't a mushy tasteless chew fest. Rather moist, flavorful and thoughtfully prepared which is harder and harder to find these days. I always wish I had more Wasabi but that's literally my only quip. Okay folks...tonight I had the freshest tuna I've had, maybe ever! We had 3 specialty rolls - 1 vegetable and 2 fish. All were delicious. Service was attentive. This, however, is not a fast-food sushi restaurant. Services was well-paced with 1 roll at a time, which we like, as opposed to the entire order at once. The only drawback was they had a movie on, including the sound, as well as music in the background, which was a bit too much background noise for my liking. I had a craving for some Japanese comfort food. I had no idea where to go so I checked Yelp and decided to go to Sushi Star not too far away from where I live. It is somewhat off the beaten track behind the Walgreen's at Sunrise and Antelope in Citrus Heights. It's a cozy little place. I just wanted some food to go. So, while I waited, I spent some time talking with the owners. Very nice people. They moved up here from the Bay Area. They've been at their location for about 2 years. I ordered the Lion King Roll and some gyoza. The food was yummy. I haven't had Japanese cuisine for so long. It hit the spot. I used to dine out 3-4 times a week at Japanese restaurants when I lived in the Bay Area. Then I moved back to Sacto and poof, I quit eating Japanese food. I definitely recommend Sushi Star. I saw this new sushi restaurant and thought I'd give it a try since it's pretty close to me. I walked in and ordered to go. Took about 15mins and there was only 1 other person in there so not bad at all. I always order a lion king at every sushi spot to compare and those are my favorite roll. The lion king here was really good! Also ordered the crunch California roll and the jalapeño bombs. Both were very good and good portions. Also got an order of white rice and teriyaki. I'm full and satisfied and I will definitely be back to try other rolls. Giving 4 stars because the selection of rolls is pretty limited and a lot of them seem the same plus or minus 1 ingredient. Wish they had more variety. The average cost of a roll here is around 14$. The dinning area seemed cleaned it's a small little spot. Glad I decided to try this place out read more

I'll be the first to admit I have a problem in my defense I just had a baby and was deprived for far too long so I indulged. That's neither here nor there , point is THIS PLACE IS FIRE. Its got a cute mom & pop vibe to it but the fish is too good! It's fresh and fatty and just overall bomb! I was pleasantly surprised! I didn't feel like driving 20min to Mikunis and saw this place was closer to me... kinda dangerous but it's fine the belly belly roll which is full of O-toro (tuna belly) topped with black caviar is hands down the best! Came here around 8pm on a Tuesday and it wasn't busy at all. Just another couple dining in and 2 workers for the night. Besides the owners baby screaming the entire time, the workers were very pleasant. It was light music playing the in background. The food was nice, I wasn't a fan of their jalapeño bombs, wasn't satisfying enough. The sushi was delicious and I had some of my fiancé's habachi dish! That was full of flavor! Went here with my brother. Excellent food and service. The fish was fresh and the waitress really doted on us.

They told me 30 minutes and it ended up being an hour and a half wait. Also, the sushi was extremely bland. We won't be coming back here.

This place is awesome, I love the diversity of the menu because there's really something for everyone (even non-seafood eaters) Came here with my wife and two little kids, service was good, they even provided kid chopsticks! We ordered numerous items, chicken karrage, vegetable hand roll, pork katsu don, shrimp and mixed tempura, miso soup and hibachi plate steak and chicken. It was all really fresh and well prepared. The only issue I had was with the hibachi plate because the chicken and steak appeared to be stir fried together and all mixed up. Every piece of steak I ate had some kind of inedible gristle (mind you I'm a guy who loves eating edible fat on a steak. But since the meats were all stir fried together you could not attempt to avoid gristle pieces without tasting them. I'm used to Japanese steaks being trimmed very precisely but I was bummed this was not the case! Anyway all in all I really like this place and I can't wait to go back! The Sushi Master is incredible! Order what you want because it will all be outstanding! BUT I MUST RECOMMEND THE BAKED SCALLOPS! They are something incredibly special. I believe even non scallop fans would enjoy them immensely. Each piece melts in your mouth. It's so delicious. It's an experience. We order them every time regardless. Just have to have them. I felt like it was overpriced for the amount of fish you get but like I said the people were really nice so I figured I would give it another try.
