Always feasting at sushi town. Parked in the lot in the back this time. Walked in and seated immediately. It was busy on this week day evening. We ordered 1 hot tea and 1 ice water along with our spread. Some items from the menu and some special items from the wall advertisement. Drinks came out quickly and so did the food. Sushi is something you must enjoy the day of so we inhaled everything. Server checked up on us a few times and complemented on our eating speed then asked if we wanted to order more. Hahaha. Not sure if it's a complement or we should be embarrassed. Their restroom is very clean and you can exit from the back entrance too.
For many years I've been ordering cakes next door and did not realize there was a sushi restaurant in the neighborhood. I'm glad I tried this place since the service was so friendly. THe staff welcomed my party kindly and I made the choice to go for the salmon rolls. The miso soup and salad went well to enjoy the cleanliness and modern vibe of the establishment.
Honestly, the service here isn't great. Hell, it's not even remotely good. I've come here a few times and each time something just rubs me the wrong way. The staff is quick to take orders within minutes of you sitting down and there isn't any personality behind the interactions. The younger gal working last night was the only saving grace for our visit. She was nice, patient, and genuinely thanked patrons for visiting. The older lady was just moody. Her whole vibe was very monotone and blah. I honestly wanted to avoid contact with her as much as possible. While the sushi is decent and affordable, the restaurant was full of flies. Every once in a while, you hear the bug zapper light [located behind the sushi bar] go off- very unpleasant to say the least. 3 stars as a whole.
A good Yelp Elite friend of mine introduced me to this spot, and honestly, it's one of the best recommendations he's ever made! I've been here a handful of times now to make sure this review is as accurate as possible, and here's my verdict: Service: 5/5 Nothing overly flashy or mind-blowing, just solid, friendly, and attentive service every time. Really not much more you can ask for. Food: 5/5 Fresh-tasting fish, generous portions that will definitely fill you up, and impressive consistency every time my family and I have visited. Price: 5/5 This is where Sushi Town truly separates itself from other sushi spots. Everything on the menu is priced incredibly well. Usually when you see prices this affordable, the quality suffers and the fish tastes old, but not here. You can genuinely taste the freshness and quality of the ingredients. We usually order the Double Salmon Roll for under $12, and for around $15, you can get a premium bento box loaded with chicken, veggies, tempura, rice, and two thick cuts of sashimi. In this day and age, it's hard to beat the value, taste, and service that Sushi Town provides. As a community, we should continue to support this restaurant because it truly is a hidden gem!
Sushi Town has that neighborhood standby feeling, even though it's fairly new to the area. Sometimes a place just gets the formula right from the start. The space is medium-sized, casual, and family-friendly. What gives it that established vibe? The regulars. You can tell this place has become part of the neighborhood routine. People clearly come here often and the staff knows them. Service is attentive and friendly without being overbearing. Traditional dine-in setup. Nothing fancy, just focused on good sushi at reasonable prices. What we ordered on this visit - Hamachi Kama - cooked perfectly, tender and moist with a solid dipping sauce - Corn baked roll - savory and comforting, topped with corn and a creamy sauce (exactly what it sounds like and better than expected) - Super Dragon Roll - generous potions like everything else here - Otoro and salmon nigiri - large cuts, good quality for the price FYI on Parking: Street parking can be tough, but there's a hidden lot behind the building. The place is refreshingly budget-friendly for decent quality sushi, and portions are generous. Not trying to be the fanciest spot on the bluck, just consistent and reliable. This is the kind of place where you can bring friends and family without breaking the bank or stressing about atmosphere. Good sushi, fair pries, friendly service...sometimes that's exactly what you need. I've been here a few times now and it's been worth adding to my regular rotation.
We recently found out about this gem of a place. The food was so delicious and we loved the ambiance of the place. There is a lunch menu valid until 3pm for 7 days a week. The best part is the lunch bento is $10.95 with your choice of meat (chicken teriyaki, beef teriyaki, tonkatsu) salad, vegetable tempura, 2 California rolls, and rice. The other rolls are really affordable as well. We'll definitely be back in again soon!
I ordered through Uber Eats because of their BOGO deal for the Lion King Roll. It was such a good deal I couldn't pass it up, but I was a little disappointed. Tasted extra fishy to me. I liked how they didn't skimp on the cream cheese in the Philly roll though, it was huge. Worth the price for sure.
Underrated sushi spot. Reasonable prices and quality sushi. My personal favorite roll is the super dragon roll. The rolls are huge and they are very generous with the fish and filling. The service here is amazing and the food comes out pretty fast. The place is also clean with tons of seating. I love it here. The lion king roll is worth the price as the topping is an appetizer in itself. Definitely recommend this place to anyone.
We had lunch at Sushi Town for my birthday. For appetizers, we got the grilled aki (octopus), dragon roll, and tempura roll. I ordered the omakase sashimi (chef's choice). It's 10 pieces of the freshest fish you can taste. The food arrived quickly and everything was delicious. Their bento boxes are reasonably priced. Service was great. Our server checked on us halfway through the meal. we were pleased with the great good, clean place and great service.
I came back again to Sushi Town, and honestly... this might be my new hyperfixation spot This time I tried the USA roll, got another Volcano King roll (because I had to), and also tried the scallop roll. Overall, I really enjoyed everything. The USA roll was pretty unique, it came with seaweed salad, fried oysters, and salmon, which made it feel like a full experience in one roll. For some people, if you aren't a big fan of oysters, then it might be a bit too strong for you. The only small thing for me is the red sauce, I'm not the biggest fan of it. It's still good, just a bit heavy for my taste, so next time I'll probably ask for less of it. As always, the food came out super fast and the prices are very affordable, which makes it even easier to keep coming back. I'll definitely be back again to try more rolls!
It's a crime I haven't reviewed this place sooner! This is my absolute go-to for an affordable, sit-down sushi lunch that never misses. The bento boxes are the real MVP here. For a little over $15, you can add two thick cuts of salmon sashimi $3 and miso soup $2. A total steal that leaves you perfectly full. My favorite rolls: Double Salmon: Generous salmon portions over a salmon/avocado base, topped with tobiko. Lion King: This hits different. The sauce is addicting. I think I detected a hint of garlic? Even as a raw fish over cooked person, I can't get enough of this. Hamachi anything: I forgot the specific name of the yellowtail roll I had, but the quality is so high I'd recommend any hamachi option on the menu. The service is fast, attentive, and genuinely friendly, which is always a huge plus. Even when they're slammed during the lunch rush, the space is clean and the turnaround is quick enough that you're seated almost immediately. 5 stars for the value and consistency!
Ever since finding out about Sushi Town, it's been my #1 sushi recommendation for friends and family who love quality and value. Only downside is that it's super hard to find parking unless you don't mind walking a few blocks. The restaurant is cozy and usually pretty packed but never a wait (that I've experienced). Our server was an older gentleman who was so attentive and making sure we were comfortable. Super great service which is a plus! But I go to restaurants for the food and the quality is insane for the value. We shared a bunch of different rolls and nigiri but the standout for me was the otoro nigiri. The tuna was soooo buttery and flavorful and the slices were thick! I had to eat mine in 2 bites from how thick the fish was. My parents loved the sashimi because of the fresh and thick cuts. And everyone's favorite roll was the USA roll that came with deep fried oysters. I cannot reccomend this place enough, all sushi lovers should try it.
Came here because we were a fan of Old Town sushi in San Mateo. They closed and moved over here. Today there was a bicycle fair so the whole street was closed. I was driving around to avoid all the closed streets. Finally found it. There were so many cyclists in there and then everyone left since the fair ended at 3 pm. I got the lunch special, good up till 3 pm. $10.99, substitute calif rolls add $2 for salmon sashimi. That salmon sashimi was delicious Tempera was good. Salad rice, big portion of teriyaki chicken (a bit too much sauce for me). My friend ordered dinner combo, 2 items, $25.95, includes miso soup and big bowl of salad. Our 2 items: 5 pieces of sashimi (salmon and tuna) and Rainbow roll has thin slices of sashimi. It was not our favorite. She ordered hamachi slices, which was nice and thick pieces. We had complimentary green tea. Service was good and fast. After eating, I was very thirsty. I am suspecting there's a lot of MSG in the Teriyaki chicken. Next time, will ask for sauce on the side.

If it were not for my brave friends taking my sheltered self out, I would have never given the time of day to this restaurant. After eating here now twice (if i lived closer, I'd be a weekly regular), I would gladly brave the parking issue, busy street, and dirty sidewalks to dine here. This place is the place to go to for fresh and delicious sushi that holds extreme value not only for the price but also the size. They had an amazing deal for two pieces of O-toro sashimi for $9.95. While we ordered two and didn't expect much, we were in shock over the SLABS of o-toro we received. As one of my wise and trusted friends would say, "THIS PLACE IS MAD VALUE!". I have only ever had the sushi and nigiri here, but upon my return the second time around, my friend and I discovered that their lunch plates/bento are even more value with the amount of food they give. I was looking for a place to order New Year's Eve dinner for the family since we were celebrating NYE at home. I remember seeing Sushi Town which is not far from where we live when I would drive our kids to and from school, and the family voted on Japanese food. I ordered online which was quick and simple. I liked that they had photos of most of the items on their menu (especially the rolls and combo dinners). I ordered our food for pickup since we live close by. The order was ready in 20 minutes! When I entered the restaurant, it was full of customers. Nicely decorated small restaurant. I was greeted by a very friendly staff person who had our order ready. I have a feeling that Sushi Town is a family-owned business, and we like to support family owned businesses! When I got home and started opening the containers, my family was amazed at how generous the portions were and that the food was still hot. There were TWO good sized salmon teriyaki in each of our orders (4 total orders). My wife also ordered the vegetable udon which was pretty generous in a large container. We also ordered Gyoza appetizers as well. Overall, the food was delicious, and portion sizes generous, making it a great value! We had leftovers for New Year's Day lunch! I stopped by this place for a quick birthday dinner for my friend and was pleasantly surprised by the size of the rolls. The tuna ended up being my favorite fish of the night, which is surprising because I normally prefer salmon! The service was alright. The salmon was a bit chewy, and I wasn't a fan of how it was cut into cubes for sashimi. I'd also skip on the miso soup - it was pretty bland and didn't seem to have enough miso in it. On the bright side, the decor is minimal yet cute, creating a nice vibe. If you enjoy imitation crab, I definitely recommend the King Roll, and the SF roll was also good! I was in the area and I needed a quick lunch. I found Sushi Town on Yelp and I walked over to try it for the time. I ordered a Tonkatsu bento box and a Bay Lobster roll. The bento was great, but the roll was just OK. Service was okay, but non-existent, though that's to be expected at Asian restaurants. Restaurant was clean and cool. read more
This is my go to place when I get a sushi craving (which is unfortunately more than my wallet likes). I have been here several times and have gotten the nigiri sushi combo everytime because it always hits the spot and doesn't hurt the wallet for what you get. The pieces of fish are so big, the fish to rice ratio is very good. Its not the most premium/lux/high quality fish I've ever had, but I think for the value (and never having gotten a stomachache from here), I will definitely be a regular. The parking situation is a bit weird, I don't think you can park in front unless you're in and out very quickly, but there is a parking lot in the back, and you can walk in through the back entrance. If you want good value and to ask yourself "how the heck do they have these prices in this economy", this is a great place to go. read more

I got the app just to type this. I got scammed. I paid for 6 rolls on the side and I didn't get them. I called them and asked about it and they told me I'm only getting what I got in the bento box I ordered. I didn't receive the 6 rolls on the side they charged me. Aside from that they were super rude about the entire exchange. I never write reviews but this time it just wasn't fair that my brother didn't get to eat at all. Please do better. I don't even want my money back, these people are just terrible. read more

Another good experience! Consistency for good food, service, and fantastic deals are so important these days bc finding value is somewhat rare. This place is always nice and clean, and they give complimentary tea. Their lunch specials went up a bit, but it's still a good deal for the amount of food you get. Their rolls are a good size, even those on specials. The only disappointment was their uni, $16 for 2, but unfortunately not sweet and creamy but fishy tasting. Didn't like the dynamite roll either, but my son did...to each their own. There's so much to try here without breaking your wallet. Just wish this place was closer to home, esp now that gas prices are so high! read more

My husband finally convinced me to give this place a try and I'm glad he did!! Rolls were all super tasty and fresh. Ambience was calm and cozy. We came around 5pm on a Friday and service was great! There is plenty of parking in the back of the restaurant. Definitely give this place a try! You cannot beat the price!! I had a hard time picking sushi at this spot so I chose sukiyaki to go-instead. I placed the order over the phone and it was ready for pick-up when I walked in. The area is chaotic to drive around, so we parked in front and walked in to pick up. The portions were massive, enough for two or three people. I imagine if you ordered at the store, it would come in a hot pot style. it comes with white rice. At home, I only opened one container instead of the two that it came with. The soup was piping hot and deliciously sweet. I have made sukiyaki before at home, so sometimes I am skeptical of ordering it out, but this was so tasty. it came with glass noodles, cabbage, onions, carrots, and meat. There's nothing quite like a warming bowl of soup. I would order this again to eat for several meals. I would love to come back and try their sushi! I heard it's fresh. read more

Was craving sushi and stumbled upon this hidden gem! What makes this place even better is that is a family owned establishment. Parking is limited out front, but was able to snag the last parking spot. I would say parking out front can be tricky as you're right off of stop lights, so you'd have to watch out when backing out. There is also parking behind the restaurant as well. The restaurant was cute and cozy with their decorations along the walls and ceilings adehering to the Japanese vibe. Seating was no issue as coming 2 hours prior to closing wasn't too busy at all. Service was also amazing as our food came out at reasonable times. Our waiter/ sever also checked in on us about our food and if there was anything else we needed. What we ordered was Bay Lobster Roll, Usa Roll, and Double Salmon Roll. - Bay Lobster Roll: I'd give a 5/5! This roll just melts in your mouth! Definitely stands out as I have not come across a sushi spot that incorporates lobster as a roll. Very unique flavor and I would get it again. - Double Salmon Roll: 4/5. Thick pieces of salmon in the roll an on top with roe that gives more texture. I gave this 4/5 as it is similar to it being a nigiri. But, it is still very tasty, and if you're a salmon lover, this is the one for you. - Usa Roll: 4/5. My boyfriend ordered this roll. Loved the fried oyster and cooked salmon combination. Only thing he did not like was the seaweed salad on top. To top off this review, they were playing old Taylor Swift songs! Food: 4/5 for every roll. Pretty solid! Dinner combinations for both of the below. All combinations come with a salad ( tastes vaguely like thousand island) and miso soup. Double salmon roll combination: Thick salmon pieces are a nice plus and the rolls are rolled neatly. The roe on top adds fun texture and overall this is a pretty great roll for salmon lovers. Dragon roll combination: This roll came out warm and has pretty good eel on top ( no unexpected bones and distinct flavor). The tempura and roe add a good texture but the overall roll ended up being a little mushy. Sashimi: The sashimi in the combination are pretty thick slices which is always welcome. Service: Fast! Very friendly and hardworking staff, huge portion sizes for the price you pay and ambient seating with cute decorations. I really enjoyed the fried oyster plate with the rice and miso soup. The salad was a bit watery but it was all good. The spicy tuna and unagi roll were also delicious. I got the sushi combo for myself and the fish cuts were huge. The only thing I would change is using a horseradish wasabi base and if the fish were colder. read more

After seeing many reviews of the King Roll, I had to try this place LOL. Came on a Friday around 1 hour before closing time, and there was no wait. This restaurant offers the best bang for your buck. Miso Soup - 4/5 stars. This soybean soup definitely stands out compared to other places because they don't use kombu, but they used like roasted seaweed and the color of the soup is darker. Still very tasty. King Roll - 5/5 stars. Imitation crab lovers, this one is for you. This was a huge roll and pretty decent. Philadelphia roll - 5/5 stars. These were insanely huge rolls for their price. You get lots of cream cheese. Lion king roll - 4/5 stars. Decent roll with very affordable price. Salmon skin roll - 5/5 stars. Deliciously fried and seasoned salmon skin. This might be the best salmon skin roll I ever had. Service - 5/5 stars. We were seated immediately, had extremely quick service and super kind waitstaff :) Overall 4.5/5 stars. This sushi restaurant is extremely affordable for sushi date. For the price, so WORTH IT. Total price AFTER tip for 4 rolls and 2 miso soup was $75. This place definitely does not skimp on toppings! We left feeling extremely full. read more

Glad to have a sushi place in Alum Rock village! The workers are kind, the food is reasonably priced for sushi, and portions are generous. I was surprised at the amount of tables there were inside the establishment. We haven't had to wait either of the two times I've dined in. The crab salad filling could use some improvement and it can be tricky to find parking. We will definitely continue to return and support Sushi Town. read more

Sushi Town is a wonderful local family owned restaurant! The family works extremely hard and gives the best customer service I've seen compared to other restaurants! The restaurant itself is so clean. From the outside, it looks like it would be small! But it is actually pretty spacious inside! The sushi tasted good. I didn't notice anything bad about it. We got the: -Combo dinner with a dragon roll (I didn't like the unagi), a salmon roll, and a rainbow roll -king roll (8/10) this roll is humongous!!! It tasted good too! -miso soup (4/10) the miso was slightly on the bland side - Philadelphia roll (8/10) the cream cheese in this roll tasted so soft and fresh! I love Philadelphia rolls and this was is probably one of the better ones! read more

Simple no-frills restaurant with generous portions at incredibly reasonable prices. The perfect place for satisfying basic sushi cravings. Pros - The bento box at nine dollars is a steal and is great for going along with an additional sushi roll - Substitute the California roll for sashimi for an even better value, the sashimi cuts are thick - The amount of imitation crab the king roll needs to be seen to be believed. You can take some of it off and pair it with the bento or anything else you order Cons - The salad dressing on the salad for the bento box has peanuts in it so beware to those with allergies however if you let the server know they can get a substitute sauce for the salad - Personally wasn't a huge fan of the San Francisco roll, it pretty much just was a bunch of fish with sriracha drizzled on top Don't get your expectations too high if you're expecting high quality fish however the portions and price here are what make this place stand out. If you're looking for quality sushi for a very reasonable price, then look no further! The salmon nigiri was $5.95 for two pieces and they give FAT pieces of salmon it was so good. We got the double hamachi roll and the dragon roll and both were yummy. I noticed they also have $8.95 bento boxes which is such a steal!! Finally got to try this place after hearing good things. The staff was friendly, welcoming, and helpful from the moment you walk in. This place used to be Old Town Sushi from San Mateo! We ordered the tonkatsu lunch bento, the San Francisco roll, down town roll, spicy scallop roll, and the Toro nigiri special. The bento box is definitely a bang for your buck, it was filling and all the components were fresh and filling. The sushi rolls were good and the fish portions were big and tasted fresh. The downtown roll was our favorite, it had a good amount of spicy tuna and topped with hamachi and salmon slices on top. The spicy scallop roll was okay but worth a try for about $6. The toro special was worth it, the toro melted in your mouth and came with large slices of fish as well. I'd recommend coming in and taking advantage of their different lunch bentos and the sushi makes for a good casual meal. read more
