Me and a group of 4 came here on a Saturday night, and it was great. The restaurant is very clean and looks updated inside and has a great atmosphere. All the servers were very nice and always cleared our dishes right away, and we had plenty of dishes. My whole table got the all you can eat sushi, and we were not disappointed. Every roll and app we got tasted great! We all had a bunch of rolls and were able to try and bunch of different sushi. This place hits a home run with the AYCE. You can get all of your standard rolls here as well as a great selection of special rolls. I love the Godzilla and Joliet rolls. The chicken tempura is another one of my favorites. The appetizers are a nice addition although I've never tried them. There are always a good amount of sushi chefs working so there is never really a horrible wait. They recently remodeled and it has a nice ambience now. Where this place loses a star is between the owner and the wait staff. The owner is never friendly. She just has a look of perpetual disgust on her face. When you ask her a question it is like you are burdening her. The wait staff is hit or miss. Some are really good while others will forget everything you ask for. If you are looking for quality sushi that won't break the bank this is a great spot. read more

Very impressed with this little spot a friend turned me onto. Love the all you can eat deals. Very sizable selection and quality of sushi is amazing. I've eaten at all you can eat in Chicago before and the roll size/quality doesn't compare. I've had great service the many times I have been to this location. Clean establishment. If you like wasabi and ginger.. they will definitely give you more than enough for your whole table. For the couple extra bucks between dinner and lunch, if you can wait, I'd def recommend the dinner menu, so many more rolls. Have you ever had a restaurant try to kill you? Tonight my coworker and I went to sushi ya. I am an unfortunate man who has a shellfish allergy a rather extreme shellfish allergy. Which I made very clear to my server that any of my food needed to be segregated from any shellfish. I love my sushi but really don't want to die as a result of eating it. When my plate arrived it contained two portions of surf clam that I definitely did not order. I contacted my server and had her remove the plate as the order needed to be remade if I was to enjoy sushi that night. She apologized and went to speak to the sushi chefs. While she was gone I marked each individual piece of sushi on the current plate with a drop of soy sauce or a poke through the individual nigiri pieces of sushi. The plate was removed from the table and I was told that the order would be remade. The owner / Hostess / manager, not quite sure who she was, came by to apologize half-heartedly and informed me that it may take a few minutes to remake my order. After waiting almost 20 minutes my new plate arrived. And lo and behold the same pieces that I marked on the plate were still present. All they did was rearrange the plate, wait a suitable amount of time and served me the same contaminated food. I have to ask the owners of sushi ya what in the world is wrong with you?!? You literally could have killed me. It's fortunate that I can readily identify most sushi on sight. Or I may have eaten the clam which would have been a trip to the hospital with or without my EpiPen. Needless to say I didn't pay for anything on my tab on my side of the table. I did still tip Gwen, our server, because I knew it was not her fault and she was very attentive. Folks can say that maybe I shouldn't be in a sushi bar with a shellfish allergy but I am in a different city every week dining invarious sushi restaurants and when I tell them of my extreme possibly fatal allergy they bend over backwards to accommodate. I live for Sushi Ya-I'm addicted. I admit I don't have the funds to go to very upscale sushi places, and I'm sure one might find higher quality sushi at other places, but one would also spend 10 times what they would spend for very, very good sushi and appetizers at Sushi Ya. I love their Rainbow, Volcano and Las Vegas rolls in particular. And their nigiri sushi is fantastic as well. The all you can eat menu is abundant, and the overall quality is excellent. How could you possibly beat this for $19.95 at dinner and $14.95 at lunch? An average quality and very overpriced Sushi place just opened closer to me, and I can eat what would cost me $75 there for $20 at Sushi Ya. Been here a several times and had bad experiences every visit. Service and food was ok, but it all comes down to the rude owner. The way she approaches, body languages and constant nasty stare down. My family and I love dinning out and we are always polite and tip between 18-20% (no matter what services we received), but this really bothered me. However, when we returned again, we were greatly disappointed when we experienced the same thing. Having bad server is one thing, but getting a nasty look from the owner is a big no-no. The sushi here is good and the prices are reasonable for all-you-can-eat non-premade sushi. I was in on a light night both times I went, and service was just off a little bit. I was served by a male (I'm blanking on his name at the moment), who kept reminding me that he was going to charge me for all of my non-eaten pieces of sushi. I knew this before I ordered, but it came off as rude and he made me feel as though I shouldn't be ordering as much as I did, which made the overall experience uncomfortable. I come here pretty regularly with family and friends and I always have a great time. The sushi is so delicious I was really shocked the first time I dined in. I ALWAYS do some sort of all you can eat menu whether it be for lunch or dinner because it is such a great deal. The place is a bit understaffed which is why it got a 4 star instead of 5. But the wait staff is always very friendly and my water is constantly being refilled by someone even if it isn't my original waiter or waitress. Also, this is not some fancy high and mighty sushi place so don't expect the most quality of "decoration" but the food is fresh and it is a wonderful place to hang out and eat sushi with your friends. read more

I have been coming here a long time. The rice under the sushi on the all you can eat deal has grown by double or more. I did say something to the server which got my next plate dumped off by the owner with a smug look and not even have her question about the complaint. You can see by the pictures and a few previous reviews this is a trend. Its a shame because up until a few months ago, this was my go to place. By far my favorite place for sushi. They have all you can eat for lunch and dinner that is priced very fair. On the menu there are plenty of appetizers like tempura scallops, soup and salad. There are many different types of sushi rolls and speciality rolls that tasty excellent and they taste very fresh. For dinner they have an expanded menu for the all you can eat option that almost seems double the size of the lunch menu. You can get as much deep fried calmari as you can eat, tempura shrimp and vegetables, and the list goes on. There are many more speciality rolls on the menu for dinner with my favorite of all being the Las Vegas. There was another favorite of mine that I forgot the name of that has tempura soft shell crab in it. The wait staff are very friendly and the sushi chefs are very fast. I go here with my family at least twice a month. Dinner during the weekend is very busy. We went friday night and got lucky getting a table right away, but we just missed the rush of people coming in. The restuarant is kept very clean, is decorated nice, and feels very open. They could put in another row of tables in the middle, still have an open feeling, and get in more customers. The only thing I would tell people is dont fill up too much on salad, soup, and appetizers. We barely had room for sushi and sometimes you are charged extra for what you dont eat. read more

Sushi Ya is good for the money. AYCE for $20 is a deal. They also have a non-AYCE lunch special that is 3 rolls and a salad for around $10. I love the crunch shrimp, las Vegas and the Godzilla. The place is pretty simple and could use a little decoration but is clean so for the money how can you expect fancy decor. This was the first place I ever went for sushi and the waiter was very helpful and polite pointing out some specialty items that were tasty. Now I go almost every week, I am addicted. read more

The Sushi is excellent. I go for the food, and have a great time with a bunch of friends. We all get the "All you can eat", and just go crazy! The only issue I can fault them for, is that when they are really busy --- absolutely full --- the service drags in terms of timeliness. I'm not a big sushi fan but after eating here once, i came back the next day, and then 2 days later. I ate here 3 times in a 4 day span. I guess its official, im addicted to sushi. My favorite rolls are the Volcano, Godzilla, Spicy Shrimp, and Dragon. I haven't had a roll that was just "OK". Everything is super fresh here. Im amazed its not packed out more. Horrible, horrible service. The freshness of fish is ok at best, but the amount of rice they put on nigiri is rediculous. You can't even taste the fish if it's texture because there is like a pound of rice underneath. It's like ordering a bowl of rice w/ one piece of fish in it. Sushi Ya is an amazing place. My friends and I go there at least once a month. Why this place is special is there selection of sushi rolls and its 20 dollars all you can eat. But there is no sharing. Don't try to share sushi with your kids because they will charge you another 20. Make sure you come hungry so you can get most for your money. I've been eating here for about 5/6 years for the AYCE menu. After all these years and visits to other local AYCE sushi spots, we've realized there's no real reason for us to come back. The plus side to this place - the appetizers: calamari, katsu, teriyaki, hibachi fried rice. The rolls are nothing spectacular - but if I had to pick one: Las Vegas roll. The nigiris are not worth it - the fish is rubbery at times and they give double the serving of rice to get you full faster. The sushi rice is also spotty (tonight it was sour). Service needs improvement and depends on your servers mood that day. We've seen the owner throw a tantrum or two each visit. She has also yelled her employees in front of customers. Her attitude has clearly trickled down to her staff! After witnessing her mistreating her staff, terrible service and quality of food - we've come to our senses and will stick with other dependable AYCE sushi restaurants like Sakura in Naperville or Oishi in Willowbrook. read more
