I recently dined here after many years. Still so consistent with food and service appears to be better and faster at lunch compared to dinner. Sam M and I were starving by 3 PM and decided to order bento boxes. The size of these lunch specials are massive. My sushi roll cravings are definitely fulfilled now. I ordered the option of three sushi rolls (Miami roll, spicy tuna roll, shrimp tempura roll) all good choices. They start the bento boxes with house salad or miso soup. Sam M ordered padthai and rolls plus side of fried rice. I tried the fried rice which were so nice. In drinks, I ordered Thai iced tea which was alittle too sweet for my taste but next time I'll ask for one with less sweetness. Overall fulfilling and good value lunch option.~ read more

Went to sushi Yama after a convention about a few weeks ago. We did not have a reservation but it was a weekday so they were able to get us a table for 6. We thought the proportions were great and decent price. The restaurant was very adorable and intimate. The service could have been better/ faster as it was a slower night but overall it was a good restaurant. read more

My friend recommended this place so I decided to check it out. This is my experience... Service: Came here on a Friday night without reservation and was seated quickly, despite how busy they were. Waitress was also very helpful and fast. Drinks: I ordered green tea which was fine. My mom ordered Thai iced tea and it was very watered down and extra sweet. That says a lot coming from her since she has a bad sweet tooth :) Food: - Krab Rangoon: pretty good, came with 4 pieces - Calamari: dipping sauce tasted like A1 steak sauce which I enjoyed, but the calamari was a bit over fried. -Spicy seabass: this was great, nice flavor and not spicy at all. Although the fish was not as fresh as other places I've been to. -Crunchy roll: average compared to other restaurants I've tried. It is located in a convenient plaza off palmetto next to Publix. Food is good and almost always consistent. The service however...not so much. Hostesses are generally flat--as in personality. Wait staff are nothing special...although Maria is fantastic. Prices are reasonable. One thing to note-if you order hot sake, make certain to let the waiter know which size you want because they default to the large size. read more

week of 6/3/24. Restaurant is beautiful and I wanted it to be fantastic. Went for lunch. Calif roll was not best I have had and was too dry for my taste. I found the sashimi to be chewy and I like sashimi that melts in my mouth so for me this is a "you are dead to me" fault. I consider myself a connoisseur of the Thai soup, Tom Kha Gai and this one did not measure up. The shrimp tempura was acceptable but not as good as some other places. My companion said Miso soup was mediocre. California roll unimpressive. They are so close to Publix I probably will at some point give them another chance but I wont order Sashimi or Sushi. read more

It's hard to write a review when you really don't have much to say, but I've been here once years ago and never came back and when that happens I'm usually not impressed. But I was invited here for a friends birthday. The service was the worst. We sat at the table for a hour after we finished eating until she brought us our check. We were never offered refills on water. The sushi was good not great. We got a boat for 3, most of the fish tasted of good quality. There was one roll on the boat that the fish was a little questionable. The restaurant was busy so people must enjoy it, but I've been to better sushi restaurants. read more

Service was complete garbage!!! Food was great! But will I ever be here again absolutely not the service is completely awful!!! I waited ten minutes to get a drink and waited another ten minutes for our server to get back. And then when it was time to get our check That we asked for he walked by us 4 times It was like lights on nobody home going on in this servers head! I truly just wanted to have a quick bite to eat and head home but a whole hour of this bull crap service read more

I recently went to Sushi Yama with my girlfriend for a little celebration. It is close to where we live and we have been wanting to try it for a while. It's located in a nice shopping center that includes Publix, Bolay, etc. The outside of the restaurant looks quaint and they do have outside seating if you prefer that. Upon walking into the restaurant, we went up to the hostess stand. We were rapidly seated. However, no one really welcomed us or greeted us. The hostesses weren't unfriendly. They just seemed very low energy. Okay, no problem. After we were seated at the table, it took quite a while before our waitress showed up. At one point I started wondering if the restaurant had forgotten about us. However, our waitress did eventually arrive. She didn't really greet us or give us her name. She also didn't really smile. She basically just walked up to the table and asked what we wanted to drink. So I ordered a diet Coke and my girlfriend got water with lemon. After another fairly long wait (likely due to our complicated drink orders), our Diet Coke and water with lemon arrived. (side gripe - feel free to skip: Our waitress brought me a can of Diet Coke which of course means no refills. I know sometimes Asian restaurants tend to do that but I still think it's really cheap. Almost every restaurant gives free soda refills nowadays). Our waitress then asked if we were ready to order. I asked if there were any specials but I was simply referred back to the menu. Fine. I ordered a combo boat for two people (about $52 before tax). This comes with a boat of sushi/sashimi as well as your choice of soup (miso) or salad. The waitress took our order and disappeared. Our soups came out pretty quickly. The miso soup was okay. It's hard to mess up miso soup. Then, after another fairly long wait, our boat arrived. The waitress apologized for the long wait, dropped off the boat and then disappeared. The boat had a decent assortment of sushi and sashimi. The taste was a little better than average but nothing really special. For $52 you get a decent amount but again just average. I kind of felt we got our money's worth but just barely. One thing I did not like was that after dropping off the food, our waitress disappeared and never came by to ask how the food was, whether we needed anything else, etc. She might as well have been a non-entity. I get it that waiting tables is not the most fun job in the world. However, if you're going to take a job at least put some effort into it. Overall, the food at Sushi Yama was decent but nothing special. The service was very slow and lackluster. Everything took a long time and I never felt like the restaurant was making much of an effort to take care of us. I noticed at least two other tables that came in after us that got their food and finished before us. I think the food quality rates about 3.5 stars while the service rates about 2.5 stars. Therefore, Sushi Yama gets an overall rating of 3 stars. I didn't really find anything special about them. I will likely not be returning anytime soon. read more

This place is outstanding! The food is incredibly delicious. We enjoyed so many good items such as the yellowtail cheek, grilled octopus, crispy salmon roll, ahi tacos, sashimi platter, chicken curry, sake, and so many more I can't even remember. It's a nice local place to go and get good sushi. The only thing is service is mediocre. Our waiter ordered us an extra order of Ahi Tacos and didn't own up to his mistake or offer to take it back (we asked how many were in each order, he said 3, so we asked for two orders). Additionally, one of our dishes never came; the Pad Thai. When we finished all of our other food we asked him not to charge us for us and he said yeah as if he had already told us it wasn't coming which he didn't. Odd service but very good food read more

Just found out about this place and I love it!!! I've been there three times already and always sharing the food with someone, so I usually get boats and they are just perfect for two, the fish is always fresh and the rice is cooked very nice, sometimes the rice doesn't taste right but sushi yama does it perfectly. Their spicy tuna crispy rice was definitely one of my favoritessss!! read more

I love Sushi Yama. I have been going here for about 12 years. A few years ago, they moved a couple doors down into a much bigger space with more modern decor. The prices have been raised a little. but I imagine that is to pay for the extra overhead. In any event, I AM A FAN! I used to bartend at the old Porterhouse in the plaza and all of us always ordered sushi to go in addition to myself always eating there. The menu is quite extensive, and I love the large amount of sushi rolls the serve. There are tons of items in addition to sushi, but when I come to Yama I have a one track mind. SUSHI! I love the Tuna Tower. The roll is chopped spicy tuna salad on top of a cripsy tuna, cream cheese, and avocado with a potato chip stuck in the spicy tuna salad on top. IT IS AWESOME! I am a huge tuna lover!!! The French Roll is excellent too. I love the flavors. I always have it made with soy paper. It comes with shrimp, krab, cream cheese, avocado, cucumber, roe, and is topped with cooked shrimp. The spicy tuna appetizer is delicious! It has tuna, cucumber, mandarins, and tomatoes in a spicy kimchi sauce. SO GOOD!!! The Beef Negamaki is a great app too. It's grilled beef tenderloin with scallions in a sweet sauce that is a perfect combo with the meat. The gyoza steamed dumplings are a fav of mine as well! I have never had anything I don't like at Sushi Yama! I highly recommend it! The establishment has been around for a very long time, consistent, great food, and an even bigger space for accommodating all of us who love it soooooooooooooooo much! read more

What a great find!!! So close to my place I'm so happy I discovered this sushi place. From start to finish everything we ordered was delicious!! and inexpensive. Excellent service and clean. We started with their Tom Kah soup... best I've ever had! Yum! We then continued with their chicken spring rolls, fried gyoza, French roll and hurricane roll... so much food and Amazingly good! Will definitely come back again!! It is next to a Publix in a shopping plaza so there is plenty of parking!!! read more

One of the best sushi places I've known in the past 40 years. I really like a large selection of fish including Amaebi and Uni, Toro and whatever is in season. I try not to overstuff myself on rolls so I can a la carte a variety. Which is why I can safely say that this restaurant has a great, huge selection of fish, serves decently sized portions (really obvious when not eating rolls) and offers great value/pricing for those selections/portions and quality. Of course, they have great rolls too. I don't know how, but Yama is charging up to 40% less than the other Boca places. The udons are awesome too. Plus, the service is great. Very happy to have discovered their own delivery service with the extended menu. customer since 2014. read more

Food was good, little overpriced. The main problem was the service. The staff were doing their best running around to serve us but they were waay understaffed. The management needs to change that. We took 1.5 hours to eat and pay for 2 person. One of the sushi we ordered came wrong but we didn't correct it because it take 45 mins.. I felt bad for the waiters read more

This was my first time here and I was very pleased to find another sushi place in the neighborhood to add to our list of places. We got there about 6 PM on a Wednesday night and only a few tables were occupied. We were immediately greeted by the hostess and seated. My sister liked her soup and we shared the Vietnamese pancake and a JB roll. I thought the pancake was very good and the peanut type sauce which accompanied it was delicious. I'm not a big fan of spicy food and my sister said the pancake was bland, but I thought it was perfect. The JB roll was fine, but I I think it could've used a little bit more cream cheese. The table next to us had several different kinds of sushi and the presentation was beautiful. We will definitely go back and try some other dishes. read more

Another highly recommended sushi restaurant in Boca. Tucked away in the corner of a well-kept plaza. Great atmosphere and aesthetic inside and a nice outdoor seating area. One of the only restaurants I know of in the area with traditional Horigotatsu seating (shoes off, legs crossed on a cushion in a private booth). Huuuuge selection of signature rolls and other dishes. Quality is consistent pricing is fair and fish has always been fresh. Only once was the service a little dicey but I believe it was a busy night and we were sitting outside. Overall great spot for a nice night out! read more

Came in for lunch. The lunch specials here are great. Get a soup and 3 rolls for under 15$. (Also they don't charge for brown rice which is a bonus for me) Service was good, the food took a little longer than I'd want for lunch but it all came out correctly and was good. The place is a typical Asian restaurant which has booth and a some out door seating. Come here often for lunch because to me one of the best specials around for sushi! read more

This sushi joint has the top freshest sushi around here. The recently got a happy hour menu and the menu has best deals. Customer service is awesome and the atmosphere inside is very cool and different. They have little boxed areas like in japan where you can eat in private and take off your shoes before going inside. No other restaurant has a place like this. The pad thai is honestly better than thailands. I recommend this sushi place to anyone coming to visit florida. They even recently added new items to the menu such as sushi burritos read more

Do yourself a favor and go to RISE SUSHI! TERRIBLE TERRIBLE TERRIBLE! I've lived in Boca Raton all my life and have always gone to sushi Yama until today. I placed an order for pick up and when I got home it was completely wrong. I called them and they said to come get new food with an attitude. Once I got there they proceeded to take the food that was wrong and give me my new one. Didn't offer to let me keep the wrong food or make up my having to drive to the restaurant again with and app or dessert. And what is worst Not once did I receive an apology! TERRIBLE SERVICE!! read more

Cool little sushi spot. Service was friendly. The menu is big. They offer sushi and thai food also. The prices are very reasonable. My roll was $11 and it was huge. I had gyoza pan fried which was great. I had a roll with tempura shrimp also. The wonton soup was good but not spectacular. The veggies in it were "meh". Anyway this place was good I would def come back if I am in Boca again. read more

Food is always great, just extremely frustrating to be charged a $1 for half filled plastic side of spice mayo. One "spicy mayo" is barely enough for one sushi roll, and when ordering a whole meal an, additional $6 charge just for a sauce is beyond unreasonable. No where else is a side sauce an extra charge. Hope they can figure this out. read more

My husband and I LOVE Sushi Yama. This is our go-to lunch/dinner spot whenever we like to eat out in Boca. They have great vegetable & tofu options. 4 stars for the food. Wish the service was a little more friendly over all, I've had one waitress (unfortunately I forget her name) that was absolutely wonderful. However, the rest of the staff usually seems really uninterested. That's okay, though. The food is excellent. read more

Came here on a Friday afternoon intending to find some quick takeout. Took about 40 min. I could probably have eaten there in that amount of time. It wasn't super crowded for lunch time, but the staff seemed quite busy. I stood at the front counter for 10-15 minutes before I placed an order. They went to the counter several times to print customers' receipts, but they didn't seem to notice me standing there. When I finally asked someone if I could place a takeout order, he asked me to wait a moment because he wanted to go to the kitchen and find someone else's takeout order (she had come in 10 min after me). After I got my order in, it took about 20 minutes before it came out. I got a sushi, sashimi, and shrimp tempura combo. The tempura came with two pieces of shrimp, a slice of sweet potato, some delicious pickled beansprouts (probably my favorite part of the meal...wish they gave more!). The batter around the shrimp was pretty thick so there wasn't much shrimp inside, but it tasted fine. There were 3 pieces of sushi and 6 of sashimi. The salmon sashimi was good, but I didn't care for the texture of the tuna and whitefish. The whitefish sushi was too tough to chew. The California roll would have been better if the cucumber in it was peeled. Miso soup was really good. They also gave me a dessert bite, which was a pleasant surprise. The interior of the restaurant is nice. Dimly lit, a bunch of tables and 2-person booths. It's potentially a cute place to go with a friend or date. I wouldn't get takeout if you're in a rush though unless you call in a half hour before. read more

One room is the regular dining room, and the other is a huge sushi bar taking up the length of the restaurant. The restaurant is a Korean restaurant with Sushi and Dim Sum and a few other Chinese meals. The regular menu is large. Plus, if you are there during the week, ask for their lunch menu. My husband ordered their sushi bento box from the lunch menu. It came with a house salad with ginger dressing and miso soup to start. The salad was crisp, and he liked the ginger dressing. The miso soup was served hot and had pieces of tofu in it. The bento box had 5 pieces of sushi and a half hamachi roll (he could have also chosen a half tuna instead). He said the fish was very fresh and delicious. I started with an avocado salad -- from the main menu. It had a lot of slices of avocado on top of the lettuce with cucumbers and tomato. There was a vinegar-based dressing on top of the salad. It was good, but I preferred the ginger dressing which I got a bit of on the side. Then I ordered a few items from the Dim Sum section of the menu. I started with their turnip cake. It was perfectly cooked on the outside and soft and creamy inside. It's one of my favorites and usually if they do this one well, then all the others are good. I'd wanted to try their shrimp stuffed eggplant or the crispy shrimp with taro but they didn't have any of these in house. So I had their classic steamed crystal shrimp dumplings. I liked these as well. We had very good and friendly service throughout. We even got a taste of two of their kimchi's as a comp offering. There are a number of Korean dishes and combos with different soups and grilled meats and fishes that we'd like to try. I know we will be back here -- I'm hoping that it is sooner rather than later.

Unfortunately they didn't have Uni or any of the fish bellies. The chef said they couldn't buy them bc they're brand new and don't have the customers yet. Hopefully they'll speculate soon, bc people aren't going to be happy when they do show us and several top offerings are unavailable. The brisket fried rice was good - I still prefer roast pork, but that's a matter of personal taste. The Chicken Pad Thai had a wonderful flavor and balance - but the noodles were overcooked, and so a bit gummy. The orange Chicken had wonderful flavor, and I really enjoyed the perfectly cooked orange peel. Unfortunately, the chicken was overcooked - and a bit stringy. The bao buns were disappointing. The Brisket was not sauced and it was a bit dry. There was a sauce over the top, but it would have been much better had the brisket been dressed. The pork Belly Tiki Bao Bun was much better - and the meat was sauced. Overall we had a good meal and really enjoyed the beautiful modern asian setting.
