After seeing all of the great reviews, I ordered delivery from this place today. Unfortunately, I have to echo Yael's and Kelsey's reviews. If this food had been prepared by a middle school home ec class, it would have gotten a barely passing grade. The spicy tuna rolls lacked flavor or finesse and boasted miniscule amounts of pulverized, old, shredded fish which didn't taste anything like tuna. The shrimp and vegetable tempura was overbreaded and oily. The udon noodles were cheap, limp and tasteless. And the rice underneath all of the sushi fell apart the second you grazed it with a finger or chopstick. I am honestly stunned that this place has racked up so many great reviews. Maybe they just mail it in on delivery orders. This sushi that they delivered to me was the kind you could find in any suburban strip mall where it would cost half as much. We ended up throwing the majority of the order away, which kills us because we hate wasting food and we hate wasting money. It probably goes without saying, but we're never eating or ordering from this sushi imposter again. read more

I'll make this short and brief. Ordered omakase for myself and the chicken and mushroom udon for my fiancé. The portions are tiny! This place is extremely overpriced. The food wasn't horrible per say, but what was horrible is the fact that there was hair in my omakase! It wasn't mine because the texture and color was different. To pay that much money for such a small portion and then to have to discard most of it because I found random pieces of hair in it was unfortunate to say the least. First hair I found was when I felt it in my mouth. I'm still skeeved out. Second hair is shown in the picture. I called grubhub to complain who in turn called the restaurant and they only offered me 10% back. I'm glad you think eating your nasty hair is only worth $8 and change. Okay. So I know it's my civic duty to vote, pay taxes, and stop pretending my jury summons got lost in the mail. But am I similarly obligated as a responsible citizen to call out a restaurant that keeps racking up 4 & 5 star reviews for no apparent reason? No joke. Based on all the glowing reviews, this looked like the perfect antidote to my sushi rut. Imagine my utter chagrin when it turned out that the nigiri featured fish that was cut way too small, perched on rice that fell apart when I tried to take a bite. We also ordered a couple lackluster rolls. Bland and sliced sloppily, they made me wistful for my beloved Shrimp Tempura Monkey Roll from jPAN, the go-to spot I'd abandoned to try this place. On the plus side, the interior is cute 'n cozy. And I enjoyed trading Flushing food recs back and forth with the friendly owner, who if memory serves, lives in Queens. Ultimately, though, between the head-scratchingly mediocre food and my Jewish guilt over forsaking jPAN, I learned my lesson: Tried, true, and reliably good beats new, uncharted, and disappointing any day. read more

Came here for the omakase at the bar. The service was great and the sushi was very good with imports from japan. I noticed that they changed their old omakase deal which came with sashimi plate, but now it comes with an appetizer trio plate with chicken karaage, oyster and cooked fish. While, what I tasted was good, I wished there was more raw fish and wished the pieces were bigger. The highlights were the uni and crab handroll, and toro sushi. I was disappointed that the sushi chef wasnt able to really tell us much about the sushi, probably because of language barrier. By far one of the best Japanese spots in Brooklyn that aren't overpriced. The food is excellent (I dare you to find a spot with better pork bunss.) Everything about this place shows attention to detail and finish. The place: Open concept small restaurant where you can watch the Sushi Chefs create their masterpieces. The wallpaper is fresh and modern and they have a antique kimono stretched out into a frame. Super pretty. Food: We ordered the unfiltered sake which was great to cool down the fried shishito peppers. They were super lightly fried and salted just enough. We were in a salmon kind of mood so we ordered all of the salmon from their specials menu. While the regular menu is pretty typical - the special menu had a lot of specialty fish from japan and like every variety of salmon ever. SO delicious :) It was also super nice of them to offer to cut them in half for us because we were sharing and sampling. Service: So welcoming and friendly. It's not the most mind-numbingly good sushi you'll ever find, but it is excellent, fresh sushi at affordable prices (which in New York is a rarer breed of restaurant than mind-numbingly good sushi at mind-numbing prices). It seems on certain days, certain cuts of fish are particularly good. The day I went it was the tuna. Personally, I am quite basic with my sushi preferences: salmon is my go-to. And boy, the salmon was sleek, silky, and my friend berated me for calling it "melt-in-your-mouth" (because that's really what it was). I was sorely tempted to just order a whole plate of salmon sashimi after my meal. We sat at the bar, which meant we got to see the chef prepare everything. It's a small restaurant that hasn't been open for too long, so not too crowded or noisy. It was actually quite peaceful on a Sunday evening. I was beyond impressed by the quality of the food. The fish was incredibly fresh and just melted in my mouth. The last time I had this experience was in a place that cost me $200 per person. The restaurant is cozy with a beautiful decor and a medieval chandelier. You can also see the sushi chefs creating their masterpieces. Came here today after seeing the 5 star reviews and I was quite dissapointed.. Maybe my expectations are a little high but sushi katsuei is in the same area and they are amazing so to last long in this area your food had to be up to par. It was empty when I arrived which I didn't mind since I wanted omakase and getting all the focus of the chef should make each piece splendid.. Unfortunately unlike other omakase spots they don't ask you what you don't like.. (I highly dislike horse mackerel and would have preferred to not have it in my omakase)Their prices are not accurate on their website. I saw 8 piece for $25 and 12 piece for $40 so I thought wow that's a steal I have to try... However our 8 piece omakase turned out to be $50 which was definitely not worth it for what we got. Some of the fish tasted extremely fresh and the others not so much.. My favorite was probably the king salmon everything else was nothing to write home about it was actually very lacking especially their "big eye tuna" tasted like regular $2 tuna I can get anywhere and I've had amazing big eye tuna before so this was not even close.. Our Uni was supposedly from Santa Barbara which is my favorite type of Uni but i definitely had better.. Their roe however was good and sweet.. All omakase ends with a hand roll but this one didn't.. At least we got a yuzu miso soup? Meh... We Got the black miso cod after seeing pics on Yelp but regretted it after the second bite, it lacked the miso taste and was quite salty. ( if you want amazing miso cod go to zenkichi) I took pics of everything in their menu for future yelpers to see since their Yelp menu is limited and their prices online is inaccurate. I would not come back and not recommend this place for that price.. Go to yasaka in the city where it's super fresh authentic and deliciousness in every bite and it's more affordable or go to katsuei which is a few blocks away. read more

Super tiny but crisp and clean. Sushi chefs standing at attention as we walked in. Place half empty even though it seats about 8. A bit wierd on a Saturday night for it to be so empty, but then again the place is relatively new, and there are far far far too many sushi restaurants in Park Slope already, sort of like Real Estate offices, Cell Phone stores and Bad Chinese restaurants. We were seated without ado and promptly ordered up some sake, which was served to us in square bamboo boxes. Just use glasses, folks. Kind of hard to drink out of boxes without dribbling. Anyways, I started out with the wild shrimp tempura, which was crunchy, hot and rich with the strong flavor of the wild shrimp and the delicate oil it had been cooked in. Loved it. I followed that with Kaisen Don Mini as my main course, which consisted of 9 pieces of sashimi, plus uni and ikura over rice. It was fantastically fresh and tasty. My companion ordered the regular sushi, taking the position that the true barometer of a restaurant's quality is in its preparation of the plain sushi entree. By that measure, this place is just OK. That sushi entree was, in fact, quite ordinary, even a bit bland. The sushi from our local fish store is better. I'm not sure this is a fair test, but you need to know it all, dear reader, LOL. So we give this establishment our averaged score of three stars. Based on my choices alone, I would give it four stars. My partner gave it two. read more

I would give this place 5 stars alone simply for offering truly Covid safe pods to eat in, I can't express how nice it was to be able to eat out and feel secure at the same time. The ambience sitting inside the wooden pods was so nice and a perfect atmosphere for the birthday we were celebrating. We got the sashimi platter, 2 rolls, shishito peppers and sake. We just moved to BK about 8 months ago (time flies) and had yet to try a local sushi place. Our issue is my bear-like boyfriend can and will eat A LOT, so sushi can end up being REALLY expensive for us, so the battle is always quality to quantity to cost. Sushi Yashin did a pretty good job at nailing this. Their rolls were delicious, bonus points for the spicy tuna being not the chopped up stuff, but real hunks with spicy sauce. Service was A+, there was no wait when we got in at all. Everything was really good and enjoyable, and I would def go back. The only bummer was I felt we didn't get QUITE as much in each portion as I would have liked for the price. BUT the quality was great, so you know, win some, lose some. read more
