This is quickly becoming one of my favorite restaurants. They've clearly worked through the kinks since opening, as the service was spectacular, they had everything in stock that we ordered, and the cocktails were on point! Our food was delicious and beautifully presented. We ordered nigiri, miso soup and a roll. The cocktails were creative and unique, not like anything I've had at other restaurants. The ambiance is modern and upscale. My only complaint is it's the same restaurant style as everywhere which is hard surfaces, hard surfaces, hard surfaces. That means it gets pretty loud once they're more than two or three tables seated. Restaurants designed like this could for sure benefit from some sound absorption - baffles hanging from the ceiling. Either way, I'll be back. Whether to eat inside or take it to go.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Fun ambience with the lighting, fish tanks on the bar and 90s hits playing.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Staff was welcoming, service was prompt and we were impressed with the presentation of each dish! The fish was good and a good price point. Give it a try! We'll be back!

Such a great new sushi spot! Yo! You gotta check it out! We had their soft shell crab appetizer, and it was so delicious. The crab was nice and moist, and it was a good portion size for the price. We also have the lion King roll and the foxy mama, the foxy. Mama was definitely unique. It had fried leeks on top so yummy. They also have a full bar, which includes whiskey flights! I had the Arden Sunset cocktail which is gin based and it was so delicious. Can't wait to try it again.. We were served by T -- she was amazing!

Absolutely was not expecting to be so impressed by this place. It is newer to the area and placed in the strip mall on Arden and Watt. BUT...wow...the inside is so impressive. They did a fantastic job decorating this restaurant! It is clean, casual, inviting, roomy, with plenty of booths and tables. Great for small or large parties. The bar is beautiful and impressive. The service was excellent. She seemed to be genuinely invested into us enjoying our meal and cocktails. She was friendly, knowledgeable, and made great recommendations. The fish was fresh, expertly displayed and flavor was on point! I would definitely recommend and look forward to trying again. Great parking.

I highly recommend trying the foxy mama roll here. The flavors were soooo good. I think this is a newish sushi spot and it is 100% worth checking out. I hope they do well and stick around because I'll be back for sure. Whether you get raw fish or a baked or fried roll all of it is equally good quality and flavorful. We had lunch here today. The menu was well thought out, and easy to choose items. Our server Adrian was knowledgeable and helpful with questions about ingredients. We ordered Pepperfin with pepper and sriracha on the side, gyoza, edemame, miso soup, and we each got different rolls. I got Unagi roll, Philly roll and Salmon Skin hand roll. Best Beloved got Over the Rainbow roll and Philly roll without avocado. He had hot tea to drink and I had a Coconut Island, and we also had ice water. Mine had lime slices. I asked Adrian what yamagobo was and he shared that it had the color and texture of a carrot, but wasn't a carrot. It is slightly pickled. I asked if I could sample it before choosing to have it as an ingredient in one of my rolls, and he checked with the sushi creators to make sure it was ok for me to have and then brought me some. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The decor is very much a perfect combination of aquatic and Japanese fusion. There are 2 aquariums at the sushi bar its self, that are well maintained as well as a few large screens showing nature channels with sea life. Very impressive.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The music was mostly 70s mix of pop-r&b-easy listening.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]We were celebrating Valentine's Day a day late because neither Best Beloved nor I care for the large crowds or the noise. So very excited this business has come to the neighborhood. It's clean, convenient, and delicious. They have so much seating and lots of booths which I love. The service is awesome. The owners are so lovely and welcoming. The staff is attentive and excited to see you, and that just makes us feel good being there. There is a beautiful full bar with many selections. The coconut kiss was delicious. I upgraded the vodka to my preference. My friend loves the margaritas. The Pepperfin is torched but you can ask for it not to be. I prefer their sea steak after trying both for the albacore. The edamame is legit my most favorite over other sushi spots. We like it extra garlic and extra spicy. Gyoza cooked perfectly. The Hot Lips is yummy! Do try it. Rolls. JD is yummy. I tried the waygu roll but the top was a little too thick for me. Might try again. The Fahrenheit 150 has so much flavor and is so delicious. The Arden oaks we loved. But the owner was eating one day and I asked what he had. It was the arden oaks but more lobster and crab. Now we cannot go back to original lol we have had it twice this week! Support your local business. You won't regret it. See you there!

Soft Opening [Sacramento CA] We dined at Sushi Yo for the first time during their soft opening phase. We came in at a good time around 6:30p as the restaurant was not busy... shortly after we were seated people started coming in (we were seated at the first booth facing the front so we could see)... and finally, by the time we left a party of 12 (or more) came in to dine (looks like a basketball team?) ... and this is on a Thursday evening. We each ordered a bento box and also a shrimp tempura as appetizer. Alyssa was our server, personable, friendly and attentive to our table. Our miso soup was served first, hot and flavorful... before I finished the soup our meals were ready and are being served. My 2-items were the beef teriyaki and the salmon teriyaki. The salad was delicious with the house dressing. Had to request a side order of rice because with the salmon and beef the rice wasn't enough. Everything was delicious though, the beef soft. The interior is modern with booths, tables, a huge bar with a couple of flatscreen TV's, and counter seating by the sushi chefs. They also have an outdoor patio seating covered with large umbrellas. We have been here a few times, it is pretty good. I usually lean towards nigiri dishes. On the latest visit, my wife ordered the Chicken Teriyaki, and she enjoyed it. I ordered the Chirashi, which was very fresh and tasty. I also ordered the Scallop Royale, which was good, but maybe a little pricey for what it is. The best thing I ordered was the Kama, I chose the yellow tail cheek, it takes 20 minutes to prepare, and I didn't get a picture, but it was cooked and super tender and flavorful. I will order this every time I come here in the future. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant has sort of a sushi bar/sports bar vibe.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The service was good.

Fresh space, familiar taste, but service falls behind. My husband and I have been fans of Sushi Yo since their old Fulton Ave location, so we were excited to visit their new Arden spot during the soft opening. The inside is beautiful. The menu is similar to the old one, and prices are on the higher end with rolls starting at $15, bento boxes at $23, and ramen at $20. Understandably, it's a soft opening, but it was clear that they were understaffed. There was only one server trying to handle multiple tables, one sushi chef making all the rolls, and probably one cook in the back which led to a frustrating delay in service. We arrived right when they opened, but still waited about 30-40 minutes for our food to arrive. We ordered the JD roll, a bento box, bluefin belly, amaebi, and ramen. The blue fin belly was disappointing. At $16 for two pieces (market price), we expected the melt-in-your-mouth texture we've had at other places, but it just didn't deliver. Aside from that, everything tasted great. But the long wait made the overall experience feel less enjoyable. The server and owner were both apologetic, which we appreciated, and it's clear they're trying their best to get things up and running smoothly. We're hopeful that once they have more staff and have worked out the kinks, we'll be able to enjoy the great food we know and love without the service hiccups.

Must get: 1. Philly roll (I'm a sucker for a good philly roll what can I say) 2. Lion king roll 3. Ocean crunch roll 4. Takoyaki appetizer 5. A cup of warm tea! I came here Last month on a Monday night ordered three rolls that took forever to get to our table. The waitress apologized a few times for the inconvenience but i still did not leave this restaurant satisfied. I came last week and the service was excellent. But we were the only party in the room. From the times II've came here, my experience has been a hit or miss. I do love the animal videos they play on their TV...so cute! read more

Sushi sounded good today and as always, Yelp to the rescue! There is a lot of parking available in the shared plaza, especially for any lunch time rush. The restaurant itself is at the corner of the plaza. Inside, I was greeted by Tandy, the sushi chef. Being December and the holiday season, wonderful Christmas decor everywhere in the restaurant. I appreciated the Christmas cheer and decided to sit down at the sushi bar. The menu was good sized and there were many familiar dishes served commonly at sushi spots. Chirashi sounded super good so I ended ordering that. It came with a miso soup, and Tandy had recommended upgrading to their special for the day, clam miso soup. WOW. Game changer! The bowl of miso itself was larger than your average serving of "appetizer" sized soup and there were about 6 pieces of clam in it. If they have it, GET IT. You won't be disappointed. Next, I watched Tandy put together the Chirashi bowl in careful detail. Look at the photo and you'll see the quality and time he put into his slicing and staging the beautiful presentation of fish over rice. Pictures don't do it justice. The taste? Pleasant and quality fish. All served over a heaping bowl of sushi rice. Did not know what to expect ordering Chirashi in North Highlands. I spoke with Tandy throughout my time at his restaurant and he is an upstanding guy. Very friendly and with years of sushi chef experience. If you happen to be in this part of town, go visit Sushi Yo and enjoy the food it has to offer. 5 stars! read more

This is the best sushi place I've been to in this area, and one of the best period. The sushi tastes amazing, it's well made, and the customer service is some of the best I've seen. It's clear to me that the owner truly cares about customer experience and loyalty. He went above and beyond to make sure our experience was wonderful and he is open to feedback, which is refreshing. A very unassuming place I would have easily passed up driving through Fulton, but when you open the door the small restaurant is modernly decorated with great taste and creative wall art. Miso soup- 5 stars. Rarely do I see seaweed anymore in miso, they typically come with cubed tofu and green onions only, so its nice to see it as it adds another layer of flavor. Super uni- 4 stars. Salmon wrapped around a ball of rice, topped with uni and black and red masago, and green onions, all on top of lettuce. Shigaku oysters- 1 star. Great combination of flavor with masago and soy based sauce. Although these oysters tasted fine I got food poisoning from it hours later so I can't give it 5 stars. I'm hoping this is a one time fluke. Bento box - 4 stars. Salmon teriyaki with Vegetable tempura Customer service -5 stars. Excellent service by sushi chef and waiter. I would consider this a mediocre sushi place. If you're starving - sure maybe it's worth not being starving anymore, but it's certainly not worth their high prices to me. 17.50 per roll. The fish isn't real fresh - like it's edible, and it won't make you sick, but it tastes like it's been in the freezer for a couple weeks and then dethawed and left in the fridge for a few days. Not tasty. Cutting corners for sure - cheap garbage food. The portions aren't anything to be impressed with for their price and while they list "crab meat" as the filler for their crab rolls - it's not crab, it's that artificial cod stuff and it's pretty gross artificial cod at that. They also forgot our Miso soup in our to-go order, didn't include ginger... (what sushi place doesn't include ginger?) And their wasabi was very weak. Very disappointing overall. Wouldn't order here again. read more

My friend and I were looking for a place to eat kind of late and settled on this place. We were a little skeptical since it wasn't necessarily "fancy", but MAN!!! We got the new year new roll and the almost perfect, and it was probably the best sushi I've ever had. Not to mention, the server we had was kind and welcoming. Best sushi in town. Rolls are delicious. My favorite items are the Lucky 7, caterpillar, spicy tuna, and the pepper fin. They are now open inside again at a limited capacity and it has been fantastic getting to go have sushi out again. read more

After two dining experiences at Sushi Yo, I won't be returning. The sashimi offerings are sparse as they don't properly manage their inventory. Hot appetizers can't be made due to the broken toaster oven. It's as if they are forcing you to order a couple of unhealthy, high-profit, mostly-rice rolls laden with sauce and frequently deep-fried. No thanks. The owner prepares the front of house food, so there is no excuse for such random unavailability of items. He sees the problems and it is apparent that he doesn't care about his customers. I ordered SALMON and he served me scallops. I immediately, politely brought it to his attention, but he blamed it on me and did nothing to fix it. When your menu doesn't match your available items, why print a menu? When you serve whatever you happen to have around, instead of what the customer wants, why even bother to take orders? I understand why the place is nearly empty at dinner time and only one delivery order was picked up when I was eating. The owner sets a very low standard. read more

This was my first time trying sushi Yo. They had good reviews and it was on my way home from work so figured I'd give it a shot. I tried the lion king roll as I do at every sushi place and got a lobster roll and the stuffed jalapenos. For 2 rolls and an appetizer it was just a little over 42$. They are a little expensive and honestly for that price I was expecting my rolls to be better. I've spent less for 3 rolls at other sushi places and they tasted better. The lobster roll which was 17$ was just okay kind of had a weird taste. I was not a fan of the rice. It seemed mushy and so compact you couldn't even see grains of rice it just looked like one solid peace. Out of everything I liked the jalapenos the best. I don't think I'll be coming back the sushi wasn't completely horrible but I can't justify paying that much when I can get better sushi and for less ‍ read more

The best sushi in Sacramento area! I no longer reside in Sacramento, but if I am ever in town, Sushi Yo is the place I go to every time. They have the most unique and delicious rolls that I personally haven't tried any where else. My personal faves are the Luau Larry, Almost Perfect, New Year New Roll, and Smokey Joe (All a must try! My mouth is watering just thinking about it.) On top of that, the owner, Tandy & wife Natalie are the best! They are so kind & grateful to every customer they have. It's such a shame that I no longer live out here because it is honestly my favorite spot. However, if I am ever in the area, this is hands down the first place I will go to! read more

I was sent an advertisement from Yelp suggesting a "New Sushi spot!" It is in fact an old sushi spot that is now under new ownership and a new name...Sushi Yo! I usually dismiss the ads, but since I love sushi, I was inclined to look at the reviews. A few reviews suggesting the "Heart Attack" appetizer which are open faced jalapenos filled with cream cheese and spicy tuna, tempura'd then topped with onions. I had something similar when I lived in Reno, and I loved them, so I went in to try. I walked in, observed a very small/quaint place (which I love), and the sushi chef saying, "Hello, good evening and welcome in." I proceeded to answer in my typical fashion, "So good I can hardly stand it!" In my usual strong tone of voice. This quickly made me realize how quiet the place was even though almost every table was filled. In Reno, sushi experiences are usually fun, energetic, full of noise and eventful. A gentleman at the sushi bar mentioned he loved the peaceful atmosphere at Sushi Yo, which I'm sure many others enjoy as well. My conversation with the sushi chef was inquiring about the Heart Attack Appetizer, in which he described, and asked if I wanted to order, and I said yes, to go please. He said he'd get right on it, and then we had a great conversation about sushi in Reno vs Sacramento, we talked about sports etc.. The chef is the owner, unfortunately I did not catch his name, but definitely a great guy! The food came quick, and was decently priced. I uploaded the picture of my order to go, and he asked if I would try one before I left ..hence the missing piece. It tasted just as I imagined, it was delicious. I payed, thanked them, and headed home as quick as I could to have my wife try before they got cold. She is hispanic, and loves spicy foods, and she was delighted by the taste as well. We will definitely be back for those again! I gave it a 5 star however I have not tried the sushi yet. I look forward to doing so.. then I will update it if necessary. read more

Love this little Japanese restaurant. Both waitresses are very friendly. Foods are delicious too. Sushi Yo has a very tiny parking lot shared with another two businesses. So parking can be a problem! The foods quality are very good and tasty. But the wait time is little longer than I expected! We have to wait more than 1/2 hours for the rolls and sashimis we ordered. The rolls are delicious, the sashimis was also very fresh, but I had two slice of the sashimis has a small pieces of the fish bone inside! No problem for me. But I think they should be little more careful about it! Overall I think Sushi Yo is a very good restaurant for lunch and dinner. I'm sure I'll come here again! read more

This place was uh mazing! We ordered four rolls and still wanted something more because it was so amazing! This was a perfect stop close to Hertz Down the road. At closing hours, we asked for the chef to surprise us with something crunchy, sweet and spicy and came out with the most beautiful roll and most tasty! He was so accommodating and great sense of humor. Great customer service and very timely. Would highly recommend and definitely be back! :) thank you! read more

Sushi Yo has taken the same spot of what was Crazy Sushi. I thankfully stopped in yesterday which was 2 days after they opened back up and was greeted with the same friendly faces as usual. They kept all the same staff but now the sushi chef owns it - Tandy! He said they will likely have some updates to the menu but it should remain the same for now and the .99 cent sake nights are still a go on Thursday! WHEW! AWFUL! I'm mad about wasting a dinner having this horrible food, and confused that they have 4.5 stars somehow??? The fish was so awful y'all. We ordered doordash delivery based on the glowing reviews. We got several sashimi and nigiri. The tuna had that horrible mealy texture typical of cheap crap sushi places - you know the type. The scallops could only be described as watery and flavorless.. so weird. My partner literally could not swallow the salmon and had to spit it out. The "aji" we ordered - they actually had the gall to gives us saba and label the box with "aji"! All the fish tasted as if it had been frozen (no, not flash frozen, but frozen frozen.. for a long time..). Let's see what else. The roll, which was described as having seared salmon (i.e. fresh fish), actually had smoked salmon. You can see they are cheaping out and cutting corners every way possible, and hoping their gullible guests don't notice (and still charging $17 for the roll!!!). It's sleazy and infuriating. The sushi rice was an absolute squishy, sticky glob - this is simple sushi rice 101 stuff.. seriously, come on people! They also give you chinese instead of japanese soy sauce (yes they taste different) which is just the damn icing on the crap cake of this mediocre experience (and yet again shows they are just going the cheapest route possible and don't actually care about the taste and quality of their food). Our order also took FOREVER to arrive, but not sure whether to blame the restaurant or doordash for that. Yes it was delivery, but there's no way they're serving entirely different fish and dishes if you dine in at the restaurant. Is it possible the quality has taken a complete and utter nosedive in recent months? Maybe new ownership?? Or a really off day?? I'm just scratching my head at the good reviews.. it's seriously incomprehensible someone could eat this and give it 5 stars, let alone call it "best sushi in sacramento". I suppose if you only eat oversauced rolls with tempura and imitation crab (i.e. avoid fresh fish), it might work out for you?? If you are a foodie or appreciate good fresh sushi at all, do not go to this sad excuse of a sushi restaurant! However.. I'm leaving them 2 stars instead of 1 because I haven't dined in and experienced the service, and because there were a couple dishes that were not terrible (like the ama-ebi and tako salad). Very fast cooks and a great selection :) I really appreciate the chefs - they're welcoming and really friendly! The only thing is that the cashier, Caucasian little guy with long hair didn't give the best customer service. Pretty rude and made my partner and I feel a little dissatisfied. Best place ever! I ate my first sushi here and have no regrets! Chef Tandy took good care of me and encouraged me to try a variety of different items from the menu! Although it gets pretty busy during lunch time, you will always find a seat at the bar and watch the chef work his magic. The highlight of my experience was being able to build rapport with the staff right off the bat because it's what I particularly look for when dinning in any restaurant. Went here for the first time in a year or two, I was a little nervous because of some of the more recent bad reviews. I was worried that COVID had affected the quality of ingredients. I was thrilled to find out that the food is as tasty as ever. Each roll unique, delicious and beautifully presented. Wait staff was lovely and the chefs are always great. When we couldn't decide how spicy we wanted the COVID Killer rolthey offered to do a gradation of the roll going from mild to spicy. Even checking in on how hot we wanted our spiciest end to be (we asked for max spiciness). The max spicy side was truly spicy, neither of us could finish the last piece. This place is awesome! The 49er, rocky, and crazy horse are my favorite rolls. Their clam miso soup is also delicious. I highly recommend trying the soup if you haven't before. Sushi Yo has amazing quality sushi and we got the boat to try the variety It has sashimi, nigiri and a few long rolls. They let us substitute a roll, we traded the Oh La La for the Reader Roll. ***UPDATE*** After my initial review Tandy, the owner, messaged me to apologize and offer to remake my order, free of charge. I took her up on the offer a few days later. I arrived right at 5, their adjusted opening time and was the first person served. The sushi master already knew who I was and to expect me. He made my order and even brought it out to me in my car, (I have a baby and surgery coming up so I'm trying to avoid crowds). He even made sure to have me taste a piece RIGHT away so I could enjoy optimal freshness. I knew my first experience was just an off night because they definitely did not let me down. Spicy tuna and fuko maki were absolutely delicious and amazingly fresh, rice cooked to perfection lol. Thank you so much for caring about your customer's experience and you have for sure gained a loyal customer. I appreciate you guys and can't thank you enough! I ordered a spicy tuna basic roll and a futo maki vegetarian roll. Unfortunately the tuna seemed a bit old... there were obvious pepper flakes in the tuna and the rice was WAY overcooked. The futo maki was DELICIOUS, but also suffered from the overcooked rice. I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt and assume this was just an off night. Wow! Sushi rolls were delicious here! We waited long, but we understand the chef was putting his all into these rolls because they were bomb! So much flavor. Some of the rolls sounded identical, so the menu lacked variety as far as rolls go, but they had rice, sashimi, appetizers, and dessert available as well. It was a bummer they ran out is the matcha cheesecake though. Staff was friendly and our waitress was polite and helpful. I would definitely come back! read more

We Love Sushi Yo!!! Whenever we feel like eating sushi this is always our go to place. They have great customer service. They're able to customize the rolls to my liking (I'm not a seaweed fan so I always get the soy wrap, no masago, etc.) and we've never had any problems. We usually don't come out this way but decided we wanted sushi. Found Sushi Yo on yelp and looking at all the awesome reviews we decided to give them a try. All I gotta say was the food is delicious, it wasn't the same taste as all the other sushi place. The tempura in the sushi rolls even actually stayed crunchy. The service is consistently good, my servers have all been very friendly and helpful. Even when they are busy, they always seem to know when I need a water refill or more meat. The only downside is that they do charge extra for the lettuce and garlic/jalapeños that I like to eat with my meat. But it's only a couple of dollars so it's not a big deal. Their banchan is tasty, but I do wish they offered the egg jjim or the tofu soup as options for lunch too. I recently dined at Sushi Yo and, unfortunately, the experience was quite disappointing. The service was inattentive, and the food quality fell far below expectations our three bento boxes, including two sesame chicken and one teriyaki chicken, were poorly prepared. The sesame chicken was burnt, the teriyaki was overcooked, and the miso soup was extremely salty. I shared these concerns with the owner, but instead of receiving an apology or any attempt to make things right, I was met with an unwelcoming attitude and no accountability. Yummy sushi! Cute little place in a very small strip mall. Parking can be an issue but it wasn't for me. I went around noon, lunch hour. A few tables occupied but was helped immediately. Cute clean and comfortable spot. If you need privacy why go out in the first place lol (referring to previous post). Waitress was very sweet and professional. We tried this place for the first time while visiting the in-laws, and it was absolutely amazing! They do seem to get busy on a Friday but keep calling because it's so worth it. I like to ask what the most popular. We were told the Tonkotsu Ramen and the Black Garlic Ramen are their most popular of the 7 options. We decided to go with those 2 ramen bowls and added on lumpia and spam musubi totaling $55.81. Ramen 101 was mostly filled with tables, with a bench seat on the back wall. Inside was a very modern esthetic. The samurai mural in the wall was a very nice touch. There is a beautiful outdoor seating area. It was shaded and covered with plants and lots of green. We ended up sitting inside bc of how warm it was. First, our appetizers. The lumpia was 6 pieces priced at $9.95. I felt like it lacked flavor. All in all, the sushi was decent. I wouldn't mistake it for Mikuni's or Kru, but it's definitely far better than grocery store sushi too. For the price, I give it a B+. It's a new business and I look forward to trying it again for the sushi pops, and may even cater our next event with them (or Lou if he's available, IYKYK). For a midweek eat, I'd say this is a good alternative to all the run of the mill delivery and fast food in the area, but it's far from replacing the restaurant sushi experience, which is why I can't really rate it higher at this time. If you're wanting to try a new place in the area, give WYNN sushi a shot, but don't set your expectations too high. It's good, but not great.
