I had the Tonkatsu and baked Salmon Roll. The Tonkatsu was well prepared. The Salmon Roll was fresh and flavorful. I was quite happy with it! Hit the spot. Located right in downtown Long Beach.

Worst sushi I've ever tasted.. even the knock-off ones at a grocery store taste better than this. I bit something hard and just spit it out. Too freaked out to look at whatever it was. The eel sauce had a terrible bitter aftertaste. The baked crawfish roll had potential but they definitely skimped out on the crawfish. Hardly any on it. Note: ordered through food delivery

I purchased a groupon to this restaurant and had a friend come out for lunch as we both love sushi. Between 3 of us, we ordered six rolls, a glass of wine, a beer, and a soda and it came to 63 bucks including the groupon! Sushi was ok but not of the highest quality. This is an order at the counter type of place and the employee/owner was very attentive, friendly, and efficient. Restaurant is small as well and appeared that a section of the dining room was closed. Street parking can be difficult to find but there are the two public parking structures available and the first two hours are free. My take is if you do try this place, purchase the groupon and be price conscious of the menu to make it worthwhile.

OK sushi, average to high price, fast service. Passed by here many times, decided to stop in for the first time on a Saturday afternoon. The restaurant was empty, and there wasn't anybody minding the store, but somebody quickly came out from the back when we got to the counter. It's a fast food set-up where you order, pay. We asked if there were any lunch specials, and the server pointed us to an all-day special for some of the popular rolls (3 for $30). It was a good introduction. All 3 rolls were average in size, and would actually be expensive for what you get if bought individually. They do have a $5 Yelp check-in offer, which of course I only saw after I had made my purchase (I'll never learn). The rice in each roll was good, and all of them had been rolled well. Specifically: Flaming Joy Roll: supposed to have both deep fried shrimp and cooked shrimp (think I missed the deep fried). It was tasty. Rainbow roll: mix of tuna, salmon and albacore. All the fishes were dull in color, but tasted fine. Shrimp Tempura Roll: again tasted OK, but the shrimp tempura was cold and not crispy. If you've tasted a really good shrimp tempura roll, you would notice the difference right away. So in summary: decent fish, not great value, poor tempura, good rice and preparation. They also offer an AYCE version for pretty much everything on the menu for $40 per person. They have sushi-making classes, and there is Long Beach's first sake retail store next door.

Plain udon.

3.5 stars (will round up for the rating) Had a Restaurant.com certificate to use, so decided to check out Sushi Zenmaru. Parking is free for 2 hours in the city public parking garages around the corner. The interior was small and more casual than I expected. Order at the counter and pay first (no waiter service). Menu is extensive and generally not that cheap, though there are a number of affordable bowls and lunch specials available. Ended up ordering the Combo Plate Special with beef (comes with mixed tempura and California roll), 15-piece sashimi, and plain udon. The sashimi was average and beef a bit dry; udon noodles were nice and chewy but broth was plain as expected. The most surprising aspect was the huge bottle of Sriracha (so hard to find nowadays with the current Sriracha shortage). Overall, food was just okay. Service was friendly though, and the interior was clean.

Very underwhelming, dry, tiny portions for $22

My bf and I did an uber eats order for the BOGO free salmon roll. His salmon was fully cooked....lol My plate was tiny bits of leftover meat/ chicken from the day. Overcooked, dry The seaweed salad was good though lol Weird we didn't receive any utensils or napkins either Hurts me that I paid $65

Definitely worth a visit - I recommend! Bento's chicken and beef teriyaki are great. 3 Roll [special] for $33 is fairly priced and good quality. I would definitely consider returning. The restaurant has a good variety of offerings. Visit 2: 1 returned for all you can eat sushi and was impressed with the seafood quality - particularly salmon, mackerel, and lobster rolls. The store owners are very nice and genuine people. I highly recommend! 2 hours free parking in the parking structure around the block from the restaurant.

Came here on a Sunday around 5:40. No wait time inside was a bit hot so we sat outside. Service was friendly and quick. We ordered the Lobster roll, spicy tuna, and tiger roll. They all were good on bite size and spicy tuna wasn't spicy to me but the shrimp on top of the rolls were good. No bathrooms.

One piece of island roll in top tray [top tray is salmon lovers combo]

Pretty average sushi. This was my second time (maybe third) ordering from here. It's usually pretty fast for pickup, at least that has been my case. It's only like a mile from my work. I accidentally ordered all salmon sushi today. Meant to mix it up and get some salmon and some tuna items. Meh. Next time. Today I ordered the island roll which is a shrimp tempura special roll topped with salmon and then the salmon lovers combo which is 4 pcs of salmon sushi and 6 pc salmon roll. It was all pretty decent. The salmon didn't smell too fishy, but I felt it could be fresher. Maybe someday I'll try their sushi-making class. That sounds like fun.

6 spam musubi "six pieces" what a joke! It's literally one spam musubi cut into six pieces
Mark W.

The portions are horrible! I got the chicken katsu curry and the portion is tiny and the chicken I mostly bread. I've gotten carry out here multiple times and the portions get smaller and smaller. They charge $8 for one spam musubi. They say it's six pieces of spam musubi, but it's just one spam musubi cut up in 6 pieces. Awful!

Chicken and Beef Bowl

Go over here to get food for the first time and paid 13 something bucks for chicken and beef teriyaki bowl only waited like five or six minutes and my food was done already wasn't nobody else in there other than me get home look at my food my chicken and a teriyakilooks like it's been sitting up for it. Was somebody else's plate rise as hard for was microwave to make a person think that it was cooked so yeah they could do a lot of improvement.

I ordered for the first time from here. Asked for extra Wasabi. Didn't get it, ginger was dry. No chop sticks!
Neshea S.

Food was ok. Didn't Give me extra wasabi like a asked for. Didn't even care to give me chopsticks and the ginger was dry.

bulgogi plate
Josephine R.

The sushi was so tasty, and they added a great amount of salmon and avocado. The rice was soft, the perfect consistency honestly. The bulgogi plate had ALOT of beef in it, and the carrots & veggies complimented the plate so well. i loved this place and the person who took my order was such nice man. Support this business!

Shrimp bruschetta- A large shrimp on top of bruschetta, placed squarely in a plate of fennel broth. The broth was an interesting take, as the bruschetta soaked it up & became slightly mushy/slightly crusty. Poached sole- A large fillet of sole, paired with carrots, asparagus and fennel. I could taste the sole was previously frozen, as I've caught & cooked sole, which is a fatty & flavorful fish. The fillet could've used more sauce. Panna cotta- A winner! My two kids were enrolled in the School of Caroline for the Spring semester 2026. They attended one class and at the end of class at pick up all the parents and kids were on her lawn (she dismisses from her front door) and as we were getting ready to leave she notified me that my 5 year old son "nicked his finger" (in her exact words) during class and that she put a bandaid on it. Based on what she said and how she communicated it, I expected it to be a small cut on his finger. I didn't think anything of it. When we got home, I eventually removed the bandaid and came to find out he had nearly sliced the whole top of his finger off. He ended up having to wear a splint and keep if completely bandaged with antibiotic ointment for weeks for it to heal. Was my issue that my son hurt himself? No. Kids get injured all the time. My issue was with her lack of communication and failure to recognize or admit that it should have been handled or communicated any differently. A few days later, I received an email from her stating the only way we (and everyone else in the class) could continue with her class is if we signed a release of liability and waiver. If we didn't sign it, kids could not attend. After asking some follow up questions about the waiver and how she plans to handle situations like this in the future and her being completely defensive I told her "if you can't recognize that my sons injury was not "minor" and that it it probably should have been handled in a better way then I don't know if this class is for us." She mentioned that anyone that did not want to sign the waiver would be refunded "for the remaining of the semester." That is what we decided to do. Once the refund was processed, I realized she charged us for another class we did not attend. When I questioned her about this she said it was because we pulled out 24 hours before the class. Though she had never once mentioned to us that this was a thing. I debated whether or not to share anything online. Especially because my kids actually really did enjoy the class (beyond my sons incident). The class itself would get a 5 star review like many others have said. I really wanted to make it work and asked her if we could please resolve this in a good way because I would really love my kids to be able to attend. The issue became more about how she handled a difficult situation, her lack of transparent communication with us, her defensiveness and dismissal through the process, and her failure to follow through with what she said.
