We've been patronizing this sushi restaurant for about 4 years. We hadn't been in a month or two and they have changed. You no longer have a regular server. You order and pay ahead of time at a kiosk. They ask for a tip at time of purchase (we still tip 20%). Then you are asked to clear your own table. Ridiculous. We won't be back. The staff that was working was extremely nice and so we didn't express our disappointment to her. The prices didn't come down, still the same price or higher than other sushi restaurants but now I have to order like I'm at McDonalds and bus my own table. read more

Too expensive! This place has quality sushi and good service. However, I can get sushi if the same quality at other establishments for less. When a California roll or Tuna roll, which should be some of the cheapest things on the menu are $9, that's too high! Our first time here. We were able to walk right in and get seated! The service was friendly and attentive. We tried the avocado bomb, pork spring roll, cucumber salad, and shrimp/veg tempura. The cucumber salad was fantastic and a very generous portion. The pork spring roll was just "ok" and so was the avocado bomb. The shrimp/veg tempura was not very good. We also ordered a California Roll and a spicy tuna roll. The Cali roll was much sweeter than we were used to but good none the less. The spicy tuna roll was good but not great. We also had two pieces of ebi. My guess is they were treated with the chemical that preserves the shrimp as they had very little "shrimp" flavor. All in all is was much better than Sapporo in UP. We still have a few other sushi places to try that were recommended by friends. So we shall see who wins the south end sushi challenge. The presentation of the rolls looked amazing, but the taste wasn't all that special. It was pretty mediocre. I felt like there was something missing in the rolls because they tasted kind of bland. Our servicer was great but I felt like the other staff members weren't so friendly. One of the girls had a snappy attitude, which made the environment a little bit uncomfortable. The SOTB was pretty one-note, and though the presentation for JH was beautiful (see photos), it was mostly filler crab meat, cream cheese, etc. There was really only the tiniest piece of salmon in each role. I'm not one for write reviews as this is my first but I was extremely dissatisfied and disappointed in this "sushi" restaurant. Service was awful, I had arrived with my friend out from out of state around 5:30-6:00pm and there were only a few patrons. We placed an appetizer and our sushi rolls. After almost 45 minutes we still had not gotten our appetizer or orders, only to have found out that they misplaced our orders and had to take them again. The restaurant was now full they were addressing those other orders first so we waited another 45 minutes. The waiter gave us complementary miso soups for our wait. When we finally got the sushi rolls we were quite hungry and ate most of the rolls. When we received our check, they included the initial appetizer order but we never actually got the plate. As for the sushi itself, I was not a fan. These are massive rolls with a lot of filler to include rice and crab salad. The flavors were not well balanced and they tended to be heavy with sauce. The salmon itself had an off taste and the. For a restaurant that has 4.5 starts overall on Yelp, I was very let down. I would have given this review 1 star especially after being at the restaurant for over 2.5hrs, they gave us complementary miso soups and took off one roll off the final pricing so I'll give them a point back. Hands down my favorite sushi in Tacoma. Sadly, they've implemented a tablet order and payment station at the front of the restaurant. One of the joys of Sushi is getting first one and then deciding on another round. In order to do that here, you have to get your wallet, go up front, find item, order, pay and tip again. Happy to see us and take our order. Very accommodating. Straight to the point. Stayed cool. All of the other staff also seemed on point and very sociable. Food: We ordered a variety of speciality rolls, some nigiri, and a tempura appetizer. Food came out promptly. Included was complementary miso soup and edamame. What a nice surprise! To say I love sushi and sashimi is an understatement! After reading many of the reviews, I decided to give this place a try. Now I'm a believer. At first, it was difficult to find the place. It's located in the busy shopping center across from Tacoma Community College(TCC). Because it's on the backside, parking was plenty and convenient for the 1:30pm lunch time. The staff was very friendly; a definite plus in my book. Playing it safe I ordered the Awesome Cucumber Roll and the Playboy. Both were excellent! My favorite was the Cucumber roll. First time here and it's a hit! It's a cute little place. Service was great start to finish Seth was our server and was so great. He doesn't seem to stop smiling and that is awesome. Complimentary miso and Edamame. They have a great lunch special and they have happy hour from 3-6pm. There is Teriyaki and sushi available. The baked mussels where so well done great flavor. I'm not sure what happened to this place, but it's not what it used to be. The service and the quality of sushi used to be really good, despite the price. And we always left full. They also used to offer some good sashimi like uni and toro. Now, it's just a hot mess. We came for Valentine's Day and this is when we learned that they changed it to self order at their kiosk. Which isn't that big of a deal, except the runner/waiter didn't tell us that. We were sitting at our table thinking it was still under the old system of ordering through our server. We didn't find out until we saw our waitress seat another couple and explain it to them. So there's that... They've gone and reduced the number of offerings on their menu. Which is fine, since changes happen. It's the way it is in the business. But the prices seemed even higher than I remember. The portion sizes also seemed smaller. And the rolls were falling apart. We left hungry and disappointed in the overall experience. But that's not the worst part. We got our entire order (appetizers and meal) about an hour later. Which would make sense if they were busy. But we saw several tables who sat after us get their meals. Which was odd. Turns out, they forgot about our order. Needless to say, we're gonna stick with our usual place from now on. This review is long overdue. I was first here a few months ago to try their Happy Hour, which had amazing deals and ran everyday until 6pm. The next week I came back to find out that their Happy Hour times have changed to Mon-Thurs until 5pm. I was really bummed, as I initially came for Happy Hour, but nonetheless, their sushi is pretty amazing at regular price. Service is great, ask for Seth! Been in Tacoma less the a month and have been eating out to explore more of the city that we now call home. Arrived and we were seated promptly and in a both. 2 adults, 10 year old and a baby. Our server was very friendly and advised that sushi would take 40 min so it's wise to get some apps and drinks and put in our order. We order edamame and calamari which were both delicious and a perfect portion to hold us until the sushi came. I'm not a person who likes calamari but the batter used was light and cooked perfectly. The sushi came out maybe 10 minutes after finishing our appetizers! The sushi comes with 8 pieces per roll which I do like for our family. The sushi was fresh. As I've seen posted by others...the entire ambiance is gone when you have to get up and order individually at a kiosk...so odd even if you're not with a big group. It's nice to be able to ask questions and just order to someone. Mike had to text me to come answer a question since the drink I wanted wasn't the same as on the kiosk. The restaurant is very clean and has seating at the sushi bar, in the middle they have casual dining area and in the back they have a more romantic intimate area. Greeted promptly and cordially as we walked in and directed to our table. The waiter quickly provided menus, asked if we had any questions, and took our drink order. The restaurant and restroom were clean. Standard sushi and teriyaki menu. Prices were standard. The country music didn't match the ambiance at all. Our meal came with complimentary miso soup and edemame. Tastes like miso and edemame. Nothing spectacular. The meal presentation was good. Our order consisted of hamachi nigiri (good; fish appeared fresh), crunch roll (mediocre; fake crab, tempura shrimp was cold, not crunchy, lots of rice), tempura udon (ok; lots of soup, not a lot of udon, tempura was crunchy), and kalbi (ok; came with two scoops of rice and a good portion. Served on a sizzling platter that wasn't sizzling). Our order hit the table in about five minutes which had me concerned that it was pre-made. Overall the food was okay. Service was really good. This is one of the better options for sushi in the Tacoma area. I used to come to the place before it was reopened as Sushido and was sad to see it go but I'm please with the new incarnation! I ordered a half roll of the spicy scallops and a Sushido roll and both were quite tasty. It was a nice option to be able to order half rolls for some of their offerings.
