It's their spicy ahi bowl with vegetable tempura on top. It's a little pricey but they give good portions. I've also gotten their dynamite maki which is the shrimp tempura roll topped with spicy ahi and that is equally delicious. They give a good amount of spicy ahi on top too. A super basic place but everything is delicious!! They have a California shrimp tempura maki that is my favorite thing ever! Everyone that works here is very nice. It is usually really busy so that tells you how good the sushi is. It's easy to find in the Hawaii Kai shopping center behind panda express. Simply the best for the price! The crunchy don bowl was simple, yet flavorful and some of the best food we've had on Oah'u so far. Philly roll was a large hand roll and was very fresh and a great size to accompany another regular roll or nigiri as a light lunch. Spicy ahi don was very good, had nice accompaniments like fish cake, edamame, wasabi, ginger.. the usual suspects. The complete star of the show was the ahi poke nigiri! Funny enough we just somehow stumbled upon this place but we saw the views nearby of the bay and couldn't resist to enjoy the site. We wanted something to eat and this place was nearby. I was extremely disappointed in this place, eapecially with the good reviews it had. We walked in and the smell of paint should have turned me around, but it didn't. It looks like a hole in the wall kind of place, which normally turns out really good and authentic, but this was the total opposite. The lady at the front counter was very nice, so the service was fine with no issues. The sushi was really bland and had a moldy kind of after taste. We sat down thinking the waitress would bring a plate with our sushi, but instead it came in a to go bag packed in plastic to go containers..even though we said we were dining in. We said whatever and unpacked our food and ate it there. We never got any kind of water or anything....again, brushed that off. I ordered a tuna hand roll and was given a hand roll with a warm tuna-mayo blend, the same kind you would put on a tuna sandwich. I was pretty disappointed in that. This sushiman is so good but I almost always forget it is around because it is tucked away behind Maile's Thai bistro in the Hawaii Kai Towne Center shopping area. The food is great and the prices are reasonable, and even better I have always had great service! I was able to call in around 7:45pm on a Sunday and they were courteous and happy to take my order even though they close at 8:00pm. When I arrived around 7:55pm they had my order ready to go and were also serving another family. I really appreciate that when they say they close at 8:00pm, they don't start packing up and shutting down at 7:30pm like most places nowadays seem to do. The worker also gave me a generous amount of shoyu packets which is always a plus! My chirashi bowls were pretty good with a variety of fish but overpriced for a takeout shop. Do not order the Chicken Katsu bento!!! You can't tell if you are eating chicken or imitation crab or fish. And some of the pieces were sliced and refried. It must be processed chicken or something and there was hard plastic like pieces when chewing that I had to spit out. It also came with a sweet and sour Chinese type sauce and not katsu sauce. My first and last time eating here. It was an unfortunate experience for me after seeing the great reviews. I can't get over how awful that katsu was. read more

Tucked away by the stage, in the back towards the water, I don't know how this place stays in business....they've got no visibility in the shopping center. Walk inside and you're greeted with endless choices of sushi, udon, donburi bowls etc., on 2 walls and displays on and in the counter. It can get confusing and overwhelming. What do I do when faced with so many choices? I order my boring old standbys; Ikura and Tuna rolls, and coffee smoothie w/out the tapioca. Both rolls turned out to be excellent with just enough vinegar su to have some taste, but not so much that it was overwhelming. The coffee drink was nice and slushy. Sure, they don't make it with real coffee like the Starbuck's next door, but it wasn't overly sweet and was refreshing. When I went to pay for my order there were even more choices of food in a picture menu on the counter. Next time I'll try the takoyaki, or donburi bowls. My only comment and complaint is that the service though friendly, is very slow. If you're in a rush call ahead, or expect a small wait. read more

I haven't written a review for Sushiman HK yet?! How can that be? Now, you might be asking how can a chain takeout sushi restaurant get five stars this isn't Nobu! But that's the thing. It's where you can go literally everyday and have delicious food, be satisfied, and not break the bank. I get two handrolls from here practically everyday for lunch (for the last 6 years). $5. No where can you be full from a $5 lunch but here. Now, you may have been to one of the many other Sushimans on the island. However, they're not as good. They're forgettable. This location is not. If you're really hungry, maybe you were just at Sandys all day or just hiked Koko Crater. Get a crunch bowl ($10). Then sit outside at one of the tables looking over the marina and enjoy. My coworker, Ross, back when I worked at Roys introduced me to this. It's ginormous. Myself and one of the other hostesses would split one before the restaurant opened. A crunch bowl is a delicious mix of spicy ahi and shrimp and vegetable tempura chopped up over rice. Seriously. So good. My normal everyday is a California or an avocado handroll x 2. I know its not super exciting but they're SO delectable and fill you up. My absolute favorite on the go lunch. I get this approximately 3-5 times a week. Their spicy tuna handroll is also super yummy. My dad also is a regular here. He loves the chicken katsu bento. It comes with a California roll, edamame, and rice. He gets that quite often. One day my dad called in my handrolls and his bento and the lady who works there laughed and said "oh I know your dad! He comes all the time too!" Oh and back before my dad had ever come here I used to pick up spam musubis for him. They're awesome. They're the double kind. With spam on both sides. As he would say everytime I brought him one, "awesome sauce!" My mom also enjoys the handrolls but the other day she ordered the spicy garlic shrimp bento and we shared it and we were pleasantly surprised by the sauce. It wasn't too spicy but super good over rice. Idk if I would order it again over my two favorites but I'd definitely want to sample a bite of someone else ordered it! And lastly, my brother and his girlfriend order handrolls and crunch bowls from here all the time. Though he's more of a spicy ahi handroll guy. He comes here a couple times a week. Last week I called and called him to see if he wanted anything before I called in my order and he wasn't answering so I said oh well and walked in to pick up my food and he was sitting outside eating! This place may be hard to find if you do not normally walk around Hawaii Kai Towne Center. I placed an order at 2:00 but became so swamped at work I didn't stop moving until 5:00. That was completely my fault and it was just one of those days where I was so busy I hadn't eaten since breakfast and while working my Sim card started not reading in my phone so the restaurant couldn't get ahold of me and I wasn't aware. When I finally got in I was apologetic and was ready to pick up and it turns out my food sat so long that it was just tossed out. I completely acknowledge it was on me. A tiny bit bitter but that's because I was hungry but I decided to just pay what I owed and then leave. I left to go grab a pick me up for my coworker since I knew she was going to have a long day but while there I was still craving sushi. I walked back into the store to reorder everything and was stunned to see they already remade the order. I was really embarrassed because if I hadn't walked in the food would have been wasted twice. When I paid initially they didn't give any signal that they would remake the food so if I hadn't returned that would have been two large wastes of food. Of course I had to pay for it. The person at the front desk insisted that wasn't necessary but I didn't want to feel like I owed anything and just quickly dropped the money in the tip jar when they were turned around. I was honestly amazed they remade the food since it was completely my fault. My only issue is I've come across two people working the front consistently and they both seem to treat me with immediate contempt even prior to this incident. I always think I'm polite and have a tendency to tip relatively well sometimes even more then 25%. If I did something to make them mad that would be nice to know but if this is just how the normal exchange between clients is than I could live with that. read more
