Parking was a headache but shame on us for not realizing valet was literally in front of the restaurant. The staff on the rooftop was very attentive and took care of us till we left. No matter how many cold drinks I ordered, I didn't get cooled down, which for me killed the experience-so plan your meal on not such a summer hot time. It pains me to write this because I was so excited to visit Sushisamba for my birthday brunch today. I'm two months post partum and was excited to have a fun afternoon out. Also, as a former line cook, I don't post online about a restaurant typically unless I want to support the business because I know how high the stakes are for restaurants and restaurant workers. But what I experienced today at Sushisamba was straight up unsafe so I have to say something. To be clear, the food and drinks were delicious and brought me back to the New york location back in '09 in a way that felt nostalgic and fresh all at once. But if you are thinking about visiting this restaurant on a warm or hot day... please reconsider. This restaurant was basically designed like a greenhouse and traps hot air with no way for it to escape, making the restaurant unbearably hot. Im not talking a little warm, im talking 90s and humid indoors with zero airflow. It was significantly hotter inside than it was outside. And they have nothing but a few poorly placed box fans to try to combat the extreme heat. Neither the waitstaff nor management seemed particularly eager to try to make patrons more comfortable under these conditions. I had my two month old son with us and when we asked if there were more fans or a cooler area to sit, our server acted like we were asking for the moon. It also took forever to get water served to our table to the point where we just asked them to drop off a couple of carafes so we could serve ourselves. We had to soak a napkin in the ice water from our wine bucket and cover my son with it to ensure he didn't overheat. Do you know how hot it has to be for a baby to not scream from being covered in ice water? Adults in the group began to feel faint as well. Ultimately we had to cut our brunch short and move to a different venue. I really hope the management team does something to figure out the ventilation in the space because it's a lovely restaurant otherwise. But it's not a safe environment for anybody to be in for an extended period of time in its current state. read more

Okay, where do I start... The ambiance is definitely the highlight. It's a fun atmosphere and not something you come across often in Los Angeles. Unfortunately, the food and service didn't live up to the setting. We were seated directly next to a speaker, and the music was so loud that we often couldn't hear the person sitting next to us. The playlist was great, but the volume made it feel more like a nightclub than a restaurant. As for the service, we had two servers. The first took our order and then disappeared, and a second server took over for the rest of the evening. She was kind, but the attention to detail was lacking. One member of our party has a severe peanut allergy, and it took asking six different staff members before anyone could tell us whether a dessert contained peanuts. That level of uncertainty regarding a serious food allergy was concerning. The most frustrating part of the evening came when the bill arrived. We were incorrectly charged $12 for a bowl of ginger, $18 for a small cup of ponzu, a magnum bottle of wine when we had only ordered the standard-sized bottle, and still water even though all nine of us drank tap water. When you're spending nearly $700 on dinner, charging extra for a small bowl of ginger and a cup of ponzu feels unreasonable, especially when no one mentioned there would be an additional charge. While the manager ultimately removed those charges, there was little acknowledgment or apology. Instead, we were simply told that the charge only applies when you ask for "extra extra." We had a small bowl to share among nine people, which hardly seems excessive. Mistakes happen, but how they're handled matters. Between the billing errors, lack of allergy awareness, and inattentive service, the overall experience didn't match the restaurant's atmosphere or price point. read more

I was so excited to try this place with my friends and was immensely let down. We did the brunch menu which included apps, sushi, and your choice of an entree. The pao de quijeo was phenomenal with the sweet sauce that came with it. Plantains were just okay and the green bean tempura was good but nothing to rave about. I ordered the lychee cooler, which was horrid. It was so sweet I couldn't take more than 2 sips of it. The real kicker is the steak and eggs that I ordered. At first glance, they looked delightful and the steak was very easy to cut in to. After a few bites I had a bite of steak that tasted absolutely RANCID. Like legitimately tasted expired. After that I stopped eating because I was so disgusted. My girlfriend felt the same, the meat quality was horrible. The vibe of the restaurant was nice but the music was so loud I could barely talk to my friends. Our server was super friendly but the service itself was so slow. We finished eating and our check didn't come out for another 35 minutes. This is one of those places that wows you with their ambiance but the food doesn't live up to the hype. Came here for drinks and honestly this place is a vibe! We got some apps and drinks and I love the decor and how the place is laid out. I got this lychee cooler super delicious, my friend also got a dirty martini. We got the crispy rice, cheese bread, and tempura beans. Everything was delicious. To be honest I was prepared to not like the place because I'm always worried about hyped place in LA. However I was so surprised at how much I like sushisamba. The place is perfect to grab a drink and catch up with a friend or take a date too. And it's a pretty restaurant It's def a place where you do have to dress chic. We started with the edamame, Brazilian cheese bread, and rock shrimp tempura. And OMG... this bread was unreal. Warm, cheesy, soft in the middle, and honestly some of the best bread I've ever had. Next up was the yellowtail tiradito, and WOW. The flavors were so fresh and delicious, and it actually reminded me of a tom yum soup. Then came the sushi rolls, and these are definitely not your average sushi rolls. We tried the Asevichado, El Topo, Shrimp Tempura Roll, and Tiger Maki, and every bite was packed with flavor. For the mains, we ordered the Churrasco Rio Grande, which comes with three different types of meat, along with the Chicken A La Brasa. Both dishes were incredible and perfect for sharing. And of course, we couldn't skip dessert. We ended the night with the burnt cheesecake and mochi, and they were the perfect sweet finish to our meal. Well, the vibes certainly didn't disappoint, but GOSH it is SO LOUD out here. We sat in the middle area, not too far off from the DJ, and the beat was BOOMING all night. I did really like the music, though, and the other patrons seemed to enjoy themselves. There's a nice view of the city. It gave me the impression of being on a yacht of some sort and looking out over the water. Very classy, modern, and inviting. The bar was busy, but ideal for those who walked in without a reservation. Now, as for the food, it wasn't as shoddy as I expected at all. Some of the food was rather mid or else quite salty - like the yellowtail ceviche and miso soup - but we enjoyed the Torodito and Negihama. Nigiri was decent. I wasn't the biggest fan of my Lychee Cooler. I'm not the most knowledgeable when it comes to cocktails and stiff drinks, though. There was a DJ, the music was on point, and the whole place had a fun, energetic vibe without feeling too crowded. The food was good overall. The sushi rolls were a little underwhelming for me and nothing too memorable, but the appetizers absolutely made up for it. The Pao De Queijo (Brazilian cheese bread) was incredible!! Incredible choice for a dinner out in West Hollywood. The restaurant itself transforms you into another atmosphere, unlike anything I've seen in LA to date. The service was impeccable. When we first walked in upstairs it was bright and very pretty! The hostesses weren't very polite however and it took 15mins+ to sit after our reservation time at 5:30pm. Service here is definitely on the slower side so don't try to be in a hurry! At first we were sat in the middle and we requested a side table. They ended up moving us but both without hesitation, they definitely weren't happy... the first server we had was not very nice and was actually kind of rude. Sushisamba Las Vegas, take notes! The West Hollywood location is absolute perfection. We visited for a friend's birthday brunch on a Sunday with a group of six. The brunch menu was $65 per person, and honestly, it offers plenty of food to share. We got a little carried away and ordered well beyond the brunch menu, plus cocktails and premium sake, so our bill ended up being over $1,200 but that was entirely because we overindulged. Everything we ordered was incredibly fresh and delicious. The Brazilian cheese bread balls practically melted in your mouth, especially with the butter they serve alongside them. The crispy rice with spicy tuna was outstanding, the ceviche was perfection, and every entrée we ordered from the brunch menu exceeded expectations. We also ordered a premium bottle of sake that the rest of the group thoroughly enjoyed. The cocktail menu was equally impressive, with great options ranging from Palomas and Bloody Marys to an extensive sake selection. What truly sets this location apart is the ambiance. It's easily one of the best rooftop dining experiences in Los Angeles. I've always felt LA should have more rooftop restaurants, and Sushisamba delivers everything you'd want from one. The views, energy, and atmosphere are unmatched. The live DJ was the icing on the cake and elevated the entire experience. Service was excellent from start to finish. The staff was warm, attentive, and never rushed us. We were given a generous 2 1/2 hours to enjoy our meal, which made the celebration feel relaxed and special. This was really yummy. - Samba la roll - really delicious. just truly so yummy, loved the golden eye snapper on the top and the passion fruit sanbaizu. another citrusy, fresh, delicious bite. The meh: - kari kari (spicy tuna crispy rice): the joy of spicy tuna crispy rice is the cold fish, hot rice, and satisfying crunch. all the marks were missed here. the temperature of the fish was raised too high by the rice (around room temp) and the texture was a uniform soft throughout. disappointing for sure. - spicy yellowtail taquitos: not altogether bad, but for $12 EACH it was nowhere near worth it. the radishes were tasty, the wonton was crispy, the yellowtail was fresh. if you got it like that, go for it. but it wasn't anything special and wasn't a $12 bite. I also did not think the salsa that accompanied it went well with the flavors. too smoky and obscured the freshness of the ingredients. in hindsight, I wouldve much rather gotten some nigiri instead! - ribeye anticuchos: tough and disappointing. I'm writing this review late, and I actually can't pull a taste memory clearly enough to describe it, if that's any indication. the peruvian corn was nice, especially added to the remainder of the seviche. At $140 each, not impressive. The price tag largely comes from the beautiful restaurant itself and the ambiance of the weho rooftop - unfortunately, my friend and I were seated in a little nook out of the main dining area. cozy, but diminished the whole experience. i'm not saying that sitting in the middle of the action would've nullified the sticker shock, but you also don't get a discount for getting sat in a hallway. the service was knowledgeable, friendly, professional. we got checked on MANY times by many different people. one could argue too attentive, but I didn't mind. Finally got the chance to come here and I'm so glad! Almost everything was really good. My favorites were the Seviche Classico and the seabass skewers. I could just grab the Seviche Classico bowl and drink it! So refreshing and tasty and there a generous amount of fish in it. The seabass skewer was delicious and melted in your mouth. I definitely want to order more of the ceviche and skewer plates next time I come. The yellowtail taquito was great as well it had a lot of flavor and perfect amount of crunch. I would order again and I want to try the Japanese Kobe one next time. The Brazilian cheese bread was so delicious with the truffle honey butter that is a must order and the shishito peppers were very flavorful. The Nashi cocktail is very good too very refreshing. Welcome to the rainforest dessert was good and I liked how light it was but I would like to try a different dessert next time. My only complaints are how slow it was and a few dishes were lacking. We arrived at 10:10 for our 10 pm reservation but didn't get seated until 11 pm and the waiter was very nice but we didn't get started on our order until a while after too and it took a long time to pay our bill as well. It was very busy and everyone is trying to go here so I understand! I also wouldn't recommend the El Topo or the Chocolate Banana Cake. The El Topo roll lacked flavor for us and the banana chocolate cake had way too much rum flavor it was overpowering. The Kari Kari was just okay for me too but my friend liked it. The restaurant itself is very sexy and I love how lively it was. It was definitely a vibe being there and it's nice to have a restaurant open late in LA with fun vibes. We came on a Saturday evening at five. Got seated at a bar right away. We Asked for a table to get apps and for two hours were not seen or addressed about that. Pros- I loved the capariñia drink. We met the manager who was friendly. Our bartender at the beginning was great. Then we got switched to OLEK. He was horrible and condescending. We had to move just to avoid him. We sat in the lounge seating and ordered and the service is great there. They don't let you order food anywhere except at the tables so we had to leave because we were hungry and couldn't get a table after two hours. There was a whole section that was open as we were leaving. The vibes are OK. There is a view and there's a DJ but overall it feels very forced. Maybe because it's new? I was so excited to go here. It is literally super beautiful. The bottom floor is where I would request to sit as it's the best seats in the house, but we sat at the top of the edge. It was primetime reservations, however. $20 for valet or $15 parking across the street or meter parking. The food was good I don't really have much complaints. The flavor is definitely there. The taquitos were amazing (mini crunchy tacos) The yellowtail is absolutely delicious. It's flavorful and has some black salt on top. The rock shrimp tempura is plentiful and shareable. My friend said it was too much mayo, but I don't think so. The gyoza was pretty good, I enjoy the lychee cooler drink is huge. It makes you feel like you're on the beach in another country. I enjoyed the lamb chops with the potatoes underneath. Weren't that hot. The crispy tuna rice was delicious. Finally, the scallop Robata ($32) is super small. It came with two very small or should I say tiny scallops and covered in sauce. Great presentation but we sent that back. I feel the drinks could be better, the mango vodka drink and the pineapple Paloma were okay flavor wise. We got some pretty good sake however. This place is pretty much Nobu prices but maybe even more expensive. We spent $500 for three people and two out of three of us left not full. The birthday dessert is a half dollar sized cookie brownie. I feel like they can do better with the dessert. The black truffle rice is $18 and it is a cup. You would think you would get one right. I feel like the portion sizes are way too small for the price. The only thing that I got a fair amount of was is the rock shrimp Tempura. We were a group of 5 friends who hadn't seen each other in a while. We had a 5:00 reservation and were told we must be prompt and we were limited to 2 hours of dining. I get its a new hip place, but then open on time and don't use up my allotment. Once we were sat our waiter was very friendly and helpful, but I felt like they were pressuring us to get on with our ordering. Once we ordered, the food came out very quickly, and people were hovering to clear our plates. In the middle of the meal, we ordered an additional glass of wine. Three out of four made it to the table and we had to ask multiple times for the fourth glass. A little past our 2 hour limit we were asked to leave and told we could sit in the bar area which just seemed a little weird and honestly a bit off putting. The restaurant itself is tres chic and has a cool vibe. There is a DJ playing background music, which made the environment quite enjoyable. It is a rooftop bar so if you're there around sunset, you might get some blinding sun in your eyes so bring your shades, depending on where you sit. The food was great! Each dish was very flavorful and delicious. My favorites of the night were the Mushroom Chaufa and the Black Cod. I would definitely comeback once the novelty wears off. Maybe there won't be so much rigidness and it becomes a place were you don't feel rushed and you can enjoy a meal with friends. read more

I get that new restaurants have kinks to work out, but the staff here feels like they're auditioning for Mean Girls: Hospitality Edition. Confused, slightly hostile, and somehow still condescending. We check in for our reservation and immediately get hit with a scowl and a "just so you know there's a cake fee." No hello, no welcome--just scowls lol. Then we're seated in the darkest corner of the restaurant... while it's basically empty. We politely ask if we can move to a brighter, more central table, and the hostess has to "check with the team." Girl... the team is 80% empty tables?? Service? Glacial. Our server would disappear for 20 minutes at a time like he was on a side quest. The entire meal took almost 4 hours, and over half of that was just... waiting. The logic here also makes zero sense. At first, we're offered an extra chair or to squeeze into the booth. We say we'll wait for our full party. Once everyone arrives, we ask for the chair--and suddenly it's "not allowed." Meanwhile, there are empty chairs everywhere and tables around us with more seating. Make it make sense. We end up awkwardly cramming into the booth like it's a budget airline. Now the cake saga. They bring us plates... disappear... come back 20 minutes later asking if we want dessert. We ask for our cake. It arrives. No knife. Another 20 minutes. We flag him down, and he asks if we want it cut in the kitchen or a knife at the table. We ask for a knife... and at this point, we're so over it we ask if they can waive the cake fee. Manager comes over and gives us a whole speech about why they charge a $7 per head cake fee (sir, read the room), then begrudgingly waives it "this one time." Also tells us they're not allowed to give us a knife. Cool--then why was that even an option?? Now, credit where it's due: the food is actually solid. * Pão de queijo: light, fluffy, addictive * Miso cod + mushroom risotto: chef's kiss * Spicy tuna crispy rice: meh BUT here's the real issue--my friend announced her pregnancy at dinner, so we were being careful about raw food. We asked if the wagyu sushi roll was fully cooked. Our server confidently says yes. It comes out... very much not fully cooked. We try to ask him about it--and he vanishes into the abyss, never to be seen again. By the time we're ready to pay (hours later), we can't find our server anywhere. After waving at ghosts for 20 minutes, we walk up to reception and hand them our card. They literally swipe it... then tell us to go sit back down and wait for our server. ???? When he finally reappears, we have to tell him where our own credit card is so he can go find it. Honestly, what a mess. Good food trapped in a wildly disorganized, unnecessarily snobby experience. I do not have 4 hours to donate to confusion and attitude. Oh--and if you're street parking, keep feeding the meter unless you want to just surrender and pay the $30 valet. read more

Angel is the best server ever and this is an extremely coveted table at SushiSamba in West Hollywood! We drove allll the way here to have the best dinner of the year! I LOVE the Chilean sea bass yakitori tori. The bouncer outside is cool then take the elevator to the 4th floor to the coolest restaurant ever! I want to keep SUSHISAMBA my secret because it's amazing! It was our first visit and we tried the three course brunch on the rooftop patio today. The restaurant is super cute, the service couldn't be better and the food - I didn't think this fusion would work for brunch. I was wrong, the best brunch in a long time. The pao de quiejo, poke bowl and lillikoi French toast are not to miss, we enjoyed a couple of pineapple palomas and lychee coolers with our meal. Great view of the hollywood hills from the patio while listening to the live band made it the best brunch in memorable times and we dine at fine establishments often. Solid 4.5 restaurant. Beautiful new rooftop restaurant makes you feel like you're on vacation. Different than all the other sushi samba locations I've been to. Service still needs a little work but since it's a new restaurant I'm sure they will work out the kinks. My favorite things were the green salad, seabass skewers, yellowtail taquito, yellowtail sashimi, and spicy tuna hand roll. Danielle the manager is super helpful and kind. Sushi Samba LA is such a vibe. From the moment you walk in, the decor and ambiance just hit -- super fun, energetic, and perfect whether you're going for an early dinner or staying later to catch the sunset outside (highly recommend). The food was incredible. Everything we ordered was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully done -- but the standouts were definitely the sea bass skewers, the sushi rolls, and all of the ceviche/sashimi. You can really taste the quality. Service was just as impressive. Skylar, the GM, personally came by to check on us which was such a nice touch. And Alex, our server, was phenomenal -- super attentive, kind, and made everything seamless. Alex was especially great about noting my allergies/sensitivities and guiding us toward the right dishes, which I really appreciated. The entire staff, from hosts to runners, made the experience feel elevated and effortless. Can't wait to go back. Sushisamba's experience reminded us why we stopped going out in LA to places like this. As we were approaching the restaurant, the security guard standing outside, from like half a block away asked "do you have reservations or are you going for a walk?" We were so confused because we were so far away still. We approached the host that is sitting in the first floor checking reservations and the bland and entitled greeting was our first reminder of why LA dining has become such a weird experience. YOU are the first face and first experience I am getting for a restaurant. You are not checking us in for the white house, you are not gearing up for brain surgery. Crack a smile. Be a warm welcome. Make the customer feel excited to be at your establishment for a night out. Not sit there with an aura that you are better than that customer checking in. No personality. We had a oops moment of we each thought the other had made dinner reservations, so we did not have reservations. We went up, explained to the other host up there. She said it could take 1.5 hours for a table. She was very sweet. Had a much more personable attitude. We knew it was our mistake, so we headed to the bar to make the best of our situation. We got drinks and some bites, a manager approached us asking how we were and we laughed telling her we messed up and ended up with no reservations. Within 10 minutes, she had us at a table. Very thankful for that, however, devils advocate, but if there was a table ready, why tell us the wait is 1.5 hours and not seat us? We sat at a table. 20 mins went by and no waiter, no menu. I saw another manager and asked for menus, they were apologetic. The waiter that came by was super sweet and apologetic. The busboys were also very friendly. The ambiance is really nice, it would be a great brunch spot as well. Food wasn't that memorable, and I don't think I will make a point to return to Sushisamba. Sushi is a little overpriced and just overall experience would not make me want to pick this restaurant over another. read more

We wanted all the food to arrive all at once (we didn't care about the temperature of the dishes haha) and Marco made it happen! He was extremely sweet and was overall so fun!! Sushi Samba, the newly opened Japanese, Brazilian, and Peruvian restaurant on La Peer in West Hollywood, gets high marks for atmosphere but completely misses the mark on service. The rooftop space is beautiful and exudes a South Florida-meets-cruise ship vibe. We attended a friend's birthday dinner here, and what should have been a great evening turned into a case study in how not to treat customers. There were six of us, and everyone ordered individually. Four of the six guests ordered cooked entrées. Thanh and I each ordered the Chef's Choice Sashimi along with a Spicy Tuna Roll. We had a 7:15 reservation but weren't seated until 7:45. We placed our orders just before 8:00. By 8:30, the four cooked entrées had arrived. Thanh and I were still waiting. We asked about our order and were told it was coming. We waited longer and asked again. Someone who appeared to be the manager came over and assured us it would be "right out." By 9:15, everyone else at the table had finished eating, and we still hadn't been served. At that point, I told the manager to cancel our order. Waiting over an hour after everyone else had been served was simply unacceptable. He apologized. A few minutes later, he returned carrying our Spicy Tuna Roll and asked, "Are you sure you don't want it? It's already made." Wrong answer. The correct response would have been: "Please enjoy this with our compliments while we prepare the rest of your order." Instead, he tried to convince us to take food we had already canceled after waiting more than an hour. Our waiter then came over and admitted the mistake was his. He explained that he had entered the order incorrectly, the larger plates came out first, and there wasn't room for the sashimi. I'm sorry, but that's not my problem. Customers shouldn't pay the price for breakdowns between the server and the kitchen. I again told him we wanted the order canceled. About five minutes later, he returned with a different sushi roll, explaining it was from the chef as an apology. Unfortunately, it wasn't very good. In fact, everyone else at the table tried it and agreed it was awful. Why they didn't simply comp the original Spicy Tuna Roll instead of sending out a mediocre substitute is beyond me. What amazed me most wasn't that they made a mistake. Every restaurant does. It was that every opportunity to recover from that mistake was handled poorly. Sushi Samba gets a 10 for atmosphere, a 5 for food, and a 0 for service. I'd absolutely go back for a cocktail on the rooftop. For dinner? I'd eat somewhere else first. read more

We recently dined at Sushi Samba, and overall we really enjoyed the experience. The restaurant itself is beautiful, with a great atmosphere that made the evening even more enjoyable. We started with the Classico ceviche, which was absolutely delicious. It was fresh, flavorful, and one of the highlights of the meal. The vegetable tempura was perfectly crispy and paired really well with the dipping sauce. I also ordered the hamachi and akami nigiri, and the fish tasted incredibly fresh. Our favorite dish of the night was definitely the Bossa Nova roll. It was outstanding and easily the best roll we ordered. We also tried the Asevichado roll, which was good, but it didn't quite compare to the Bossa Nova. We also ordered the Coconada mocktail, which was interesting and fun to try. It was a unique drink that added to the overall experience. The service got off to a rough start. Even though we had a reservation, we waited about 10-15 minutes to be seated. After being seated, we waited another 15 minutes before anyone came to our table, and we eventually had to find a waiter ourselves. Once we were helped, things improved, and it seemed like they may have been in the middle of a shift change. Despite the slow start with the service, the quality of the food, the beautiful setting, and the overall dining experience left a great impression. I'd definitely come back for the ceviche, nigiri, and especially the Bossa Nova roll. read more
