First time here, and from the exterior, I was a bit nervous. Interior was somewhat dated but clean and comfortable. The salad was fresh and very good, and my cheeseburger and fries were also tasty and perfectly seasoned. Prices were reasonable, and service was good. The portion was so poor and small, that after spending $60 i left hungrier and had to grab a Burger from Wendy's. Thank God for Wendy's. This is like a hidden gem in Simi Valley. If you want an amazing steak or prime rib dinner- this is your place. It used to be a Chinese restaurant, and the inside has been transformed to look like an old fashioned steak house. I was told the restaurant was located somewhere else and was moved here after the Chinese restaurant closed. The food is so good. I've been here several times, for both lunch & dinner. Great prices on lunch specials & good prices on happy hour drinks. Overall, all prices are fair. I love blue cheese salad dressing, and it seems like theirs is made in house. We celebrated my brother's birthday here and overall it was great! Their menu is uncomplicated. We had a variety of dishes, prime rib, salmon, shrimp and the Wally burger. Everyone's dish was cooked perfectly and the salads were basic but crisp and generous portion. Our server, Zoe was attentive and friendly making sure our food was delivered hot and the birthday boy got chocolate cake & ice cream. A bonus is the no corkage fee. So I don't do a bunch of reviews unless something is exceptional or horrible. My 3rd time here, so figured the last 2 times were No problems what could go wrong? Well, Worse my birthday, and my hubby's first time here. Took long for food and EVERYTHING supposed to be hot, " 2 prime rib dinners and sides" was barely warm, except the appetizer which came earlier. Hubby didn't want to complain but it was so bad I had to tell server. Hence, so disappointed both of us, Hubby didn't want to order anything else, or have re heated and/or wait so he didn't eat his & sent it back. I lost my appetite bc at this point dinner is not pleasurable and as hungry as I was, my food was cold too. I took the rest of mine to go. I thought perhaps it was just bad luck bc my hubby didn't want to go here n ironically of course things were terrible. I don't care much for this town Simi, but drove in bc #1, I assumed the other 2 times were decent and a casual place and #2, I honestly like the old school atmosphere. I'm mind blown how many reviews are saying the same thing. This apparently isn't a one off. None of us reviews who are saying food cold are exaggerating, which is very concerning of actually of what kinda ppl working in kitchen or what are they doing. I cannot say enough great things about this place, including all of the great food and all of the service staff. The menu is limited, which means that they make everything to perfection. The prime rib is the best I have ever had. My husband is from Montana, and when we were there, we went to their finest steakhouse and ordered the prime rib. Sutters Mill has got the beat! The stuffed potatoes absolutely marvelous. The bar is well stocked and Carrie The bartender really knows how to pour a great martini. You can also sit up at the bar and eat off of the full menu. My hubs and I decided to take my dad and stepmom out for his birthday to SM this past weekend and was excited when I read all the glowing reviews and raves about this place. Making reservations through yelp was pretty easy and checking in was the same. The hostess did ask if I made them online, so be sure to clarify if you do the same. We got there by our reservation time-6 pm and got seated right away. We were seated all the way in the back, where it was lightly lit and in a room with booths all around and some tables in the middle. The seating was a little strange cause if felt like we were staring at the booth across from us, not really each other. Our waiter was attentive, but lagged a little, primarily due to being in charge of a few tables around us. Since I had done some research on yelp, I figured we could try the cheesy garlic bread and told the waiter we'd start off with some garlic toast. I realized I forgot to say cheese and my hubs ended up ordering it a little later. The garlic toast was okay in my opinion and didn't really think it was over the moon amazing like I read in the reviews. (If it's your first time there, I would skip it.) And the cheese bread, was basically a heaping scoop of shredded cheddar cheese on top of toast, which wasn't what I expected nor liked very much. For my main course, I ordered the petite filet with a side salad- basically lettuce and cherry tomatoes and a stuffed baked potato for my side- again didn't think it was all that special or had very much flavor. I ordered my steak medium rare and it came out perfectly cooked. It also came with a mushroom sauce on the side, which was a little odd. I always figured if the steak is supposed to be outstanding, you don't really need anything else...especially sauce to cover it up. Anywho, I was impressed my steak didn't have any fat, so I actually got to eat the full 6 oz. My parents ordered the SM prime rib 3/4lbs. And didn't seem too happy with it. My parents are pretty critical when it comes to food, but when they eat a delicious piece of meat, they will talk about it for days. I was really hoping this place would be the next best steakhouse, but unfortunately, it just wasn't. At the end of the meal, we decided to split the deep fried cheesecake, which is really only good for 3 people, since there are three pieces. It's basically cheesecake filling squeezed into a fried pastry shell with whipped cream and ice cream. The dessert was pretty good and not very heavy. Overall, I'd have to say 'Meh, I've experienced better,' and to be honest probably will not come back. Nothing really stood out to me, other than the lighting which was pretty dark. The restaurant diversity forgot! Bland food, canned vegetables, and unfriendly waitresses. We are an interracial couple who've dined in steakhouses to waffle houses. Taquerias to hole in the wall chinese restaurants. We've never felt out of place. Until we went here! If you aren't over 50 and white... you may feel out of place. And if you a person of color, you probably are going to be the only 1. (Not exaggerating) Dated furniture to go with the dated theme (cowboy/western). Arrived right at 4:00 pm when they opened . Sat in a lovely booth. Brought our own bottle (No corkage fee). We ordered the lobster dinners with some prime rib. That's when I wasn't too happy. The lobster arrived.... Looked fabulous. Prime rib was delicious.... Horseradish had just the right bite to it. The stuffed baked potato and green beans yum. The drawn butter for the lobster yum. The lobster in in its shell .... Cut in half. So we had two halves each. I dug out the lobster and took a bite ..... yuck.... It had a mealy texture. So disappointed! Then tried the other half..... well.... I was happily surprised !!! It was delicious !! Nice and plump and sweet like lobster should be!! My friend's plate was the same.... One good half and one not-so-good! The server came by and asked how our dinner was. I said ok. Except for the one half of the lobster was mealy... she frowned and said I don't know what that means and walked away. In a while server returned and said.... Extremely poor service. Our server, Britni, was not on her game. Perhaps she's new, but her lack of skill ruined our entire meal. I had to get up and request help from a different server twice. Then, everyone got their meal except me. Ever been eating in a restaurant and your entire party, except you has their food? It's a bit awkward to say the least. After waiting ten minutes, had to get up AGAIN, to get my food delivered, AND they gave me sautéed mushrooms instead of stuffed mushrooms. The only way I will eat there again is if it is some sort of business function. The person who was paying said, "Yes. The service was awful, but I always give them a tip anyway." My Restaurant Equipment Service Company was hired to repair their oven and what we've seen in the kitchen of this restaurant is absolute anti-sanitary.
