We decided to order takeout the other night from Taboun. My boyfriend lives down the block and I've always eyed this place since I love Mediterranean foods. He recommended it, but mentioned that it was on the pricier side. He said that the combo plates are the best, the wraps are so so. So we both ordered the lamb-beef combo plate. The combo plates come with two sides and pita bread. For his sides, he ordered hummus and babaghanoush. I ordered the tabouleh salad and hummus as my appetizers. I LOVE tabouleh salads because it's so refreshing! The lamb/beef gyro was more shredded vs slices like other Mediterranean spots. I liked how it was shredded more because it is easier to eat! The mean is layered on top of rice and sliced onions. So tasty! As my boyfriend warned me, it was a little over $15 per combo. Wow this is a really nice place for some Mediterranean food. We ordered some wraps, salad and a vegetarian combo. The food was tasty. The quantity for the wraps were average but the veg combo was much more then required for an average person. I'm not a huge fan of wraps coz of the tortillas but these tortillas were very good. The falafal inside the wraps had a right balance in terms of spice and quantity. The hummus and baba gaboush were pretty decent but I should say very good for the price. Perhaps the best place to eat bordering UCSF Parnassus (for the love of god, avoid the food that's actually available on campus) and, oddly, one of few places in SF you can get legitimately spicy food (try their hot sauce and ask for extra). Their wraps use lavash, which is a nice change of pace from what you see at hipster Mediterranean places, and it also lets them cram a huge amount of food into a single wrap. They're not exactly cheap, but they're a pretty good deal for SF. I'm docking this place a star for being inconsistent. When they're on, they're as good as you can find in SF. Came here on a weekday night for dinner around 8pm. Wasn't crowded and there was plenty of seating indoors and outdoors. They asked if we were UCSF students so I think they might do a discount for them Service is phenomenal. Either they have a great employee training program or hire great people (or both!) but very friendly, intuitive on what we needed and wanted, super considerate. I really want to be friends with the people who work here! Food is at a good price point. It's about $10 for a wrap that as long and hefty as your forearm. Taste was good but it doesn't blow your mind and I dont think most people come here for the taste. They def dont skimp you on portions though. Baba ghanoush topped with paprika and came with plenty of pita. We actually thought the chicken was more tender than the lamb. Lamb was slightly gamey and a bit more tough. The larger pieces were a bit more tender though. Hummus was delicious. Ask for tahini sauce and yogurt on the side! Tahini was delicious and made a big difference in taste of the meal. They are very generous with the amount of sauce they give you. But if you don't ask, you won't get any. Portions were fairly generous but it is a bit pricey, otherwise I would have given it 5 stars. I would come back. read more

Because of her, it came out when we got there so it was nice & fresh. I ordered the chicken kebab dinner plate which included rice and two sides! Just $13.95, this plate can serve as two meals. I had plenty to take home to the boyfriend. For my sides, I got two falafels & hummus which came with warm pita bread. Everything tasted delicious. My coworkers ordered the lamb which they both enjoyed. I stole some of their cucumber tabbouleh which was delicious!!!! I couldn't get enough. I would definitely come back again if I come back to work at UCSF. Sadly, I will be quitting to start school but I'll still be in the area so I may pop in for a wrap or two. There's plenty of seating areas at least at the time we went (between lunch and dinner). And best of all, I love how it's just a skip and a hop down Parnassus from the UCSF Med Center where I work. First time coming here and wasted $40 something for 3 wraps. I ordered falafel wrap and was so dry and first time I encountered pickles in wrap. Cucumbers are fine but that pickles?? I can't say this is my favorite Mediterranean food place ever, but if you're in the neighborhood looking for something yum and filling, Taboun is a great option. The wraps are massive so you'll definitely be getting your money's worth. I tried the eggplant without hot sauce just because I'm a pansy, but I'm fairly sure the hot sauce makes their wraps taste better. The outer layer of pita was burnt so my wrap tasted overwhelmingly charry, but I enjoyed the flavor of the filling and the texture of the grilled eggplant enough that I wouldn't mind ordering the same thing again. There was a group of us waiting for our to-go orders and even though it didn't even take that long, the kind man making our wraps also gave us a whole bag of fresh falafels! What a sweetie!!! Quite possibly the worst Middle Eastern food I've ever had in my life. I've had the displeasure of eating food from here 3 or 4 times over the years because my colleagues love this place. Surprising? No. Laughable? Very much so! Their main flavor profile here is bitter garbage. Tahini is bitter. Pickles are bitter. Beef is flavorless. This all equates to hot 'n' bitter garbage in my opinion. I think it takes more work and creativity to actually screw up a kabob wrap. Somehow, these guys pulled it off with flying colors. I am of Middle Eastern descent and I stand by my review. It tasted like burnt cauliflower or something. There's no taste of falafel and the falafel did not taste fresh at all (it had the texture of being old too). This taste just like the food in the Middle East and is truly authentic and fresh. The Shawirma wraps are packed with meat and veggies and delicious sauce. The kebabs are tender meat cubes that taste so good over rice as a dinner plate with two sides. There's plenty of veggie options here too. Falafel, hummus, eggplant wrap, and veggie combo just to name a few. The salads are great as well. my favorite is Tabouleh which is a popular salad in the region. We are in SF from out of town, here for surgery at UCSF. We are so glad we found this little restaurant with authentic, delicious Middle Eastern food. The owners and staff are all family, and welcomed us as family as well. Food was excellent, and serving sizes were very generous. I probably would have been satisfied with only half of my chicken shawarma wrap but managed to down the whole thing. I strongly recommend the spicy sauce on that dish. We eat middle eastern food quite often and this didn't taste authentic and was actually kind of bland even with pickles in it. We were the only ones at noon on a Saturday. Maybe they have more customers during the week and less during the weekend? Anyway, for 2 wraps, it came out to about $24. We didn't order any drinks or sides. In my opinion, it was just ok. Overall impression: Average food, friendly but not the most organized service. Expect to wait a while if there's a large group before (or even after) you! Small restaurant close to UCSF. After passing by this place for a year I thought I'd drop by and try it! My friend and I ordered the vegetarian platter with tabbouleh, cucumber and tomato salad, dolmas, hummus, babaganoush, and 2 pieces of falafel (~$11), and the lamb wrap. The flavors were ok, sides to the platter were a bit too sour for my taste. I wish the pita was fluffier and less flat but overall for the price I guess it's not bad for SF. The biggest mishap was the wait time. At the end of the meal I ordered another side of fries on a sudden craving, and I was told the wait would be 10 minutes. There was a large group of maybe 6-7 people behind me that ordered a variety of wraps. 10 minutes goes by, then 15, and somehow, the entire group got their orders before I got my lone order of fries. I checked on my order and one of the workers told me that I was told it would've been a wait and that it still wasn't done. After over 20 minutes passed I had to run back to campus, without my fries, and was late to conference. Tldr, really wish management could prioritize the line system a little better. read more

We loved the most of the food here and staff were a delight. However, when it came to consistency, there was none with my kabobs.
