For those lamenting how it is not authentic, no shizz...it is a Nantucket themed Mexican restaurant, for crying out loud. There are nautical flags and sailboats everywhere you look. This is as far from authentic as it gets, and I don't care, because ultimately it's delicious and it's five minutes from my apartment. People, get off your high horse and let myself stuff myself full of kobe beef in peace! I am a quesadilla fanatic (read my review of El Toro Taqueria for further details), and the carne asada quesadilla here is a joke...stuffed to capacity with meat, in a way I've never seen. You will legitimately have kobe beef falling down your chin with every bite, they do not skimp out. So good, and they always have some interesting beers available too...not a huge selection, but something good on tap for sure (rare for the Marina). In short, authentic? No. Gooey, delicious, and supremely satisfying? You bet. read more

More like 3.5 stars. Pretty good, but not as good as Nick's Crispy Taco. Chips were good but too greasy, taco had an unpleasant fishy smell that made it difficult to eat. Burrito was ok but the guacamole was virtually nonexistent, and for some reason they made it with a wheat tortilla (which I did not order). I would probably stop in if I were in the area and hungry because it's basically a less-good NCT, but I don't think I would order from them again. read more

I love this place and come here at least once a week to get my carne asada San Diego burrito fix. The margaritas are strong, the food is delish (American Kobe beef and Fulton valley chicken) and the customer service is efficient and super friendly. The only down side - the pretentious Marina douche bags that cut the queue and think they are more important than everyone else. read more

Best Taco. Better than any I've had in the mission, tacolicious, and in my opinion better than Nicks even though they are supposedly identical. I also really liked their California burrito. Aside from that, they have an epic hot sauce selection, and the salsas at each table are awesome. I can never get just one taco here (and the tacos are a very generous portion) always end up pigging out. Also it is kinda cool how it is all Nantucket themed. Basically identical to Nick's Crispy Tacos on Polk & Broadway, with the following differences- 1) They run their own alcohol and have some nice beers on tap (as opposed to Rouge handling the booze for Nick's) 2) Slightly expanded menu 3) Seems a bit more organized and the order seemed a bit more 'smoothly executed' than what I get from Nick's 4) They accept credits cards where Nick's is CASH ONLY. In a vacuum, I'd pick Tacko over Nick's, but they are basically identical and I'll continue going to Nick's only because it is closer to my apartment! read more

The food was delicious. The salsas were delicious, very flavorful. service was friendly and fast. I just wish I had not gone in on a day when every annoying marina mom and their 2 toddlers and over-sized strollers decided it was taco day for lunch. A cool trendy 'fake' Mexican spot! Plenty of vegetarian options, and I was starving, so I asked the guy for a recommendation. I went with a veggie taco and a side of rice & beans instead of the veg burrito. The veg taco was really good (I think 2 or 3) and well flavored. I wish they had a soy meat option though to make the taco a little more filling and flavored aside from the veggies. The rice and beans had wayyy too much cojito cheese (also surprising they didn't mention that in the menu) so it kinda took away from the rice & bean action I was excited for. After the 2 or 3 tacos and side, I wasn't that full. I was starving so I wanted to be fulll especially for drinking later that night. I guess you have to get some chips and salsa action up in there. They also have beers and agua fresca which is cool! Their beer selection is pretty good :D I would come back, and maybe just order more comida. read more

I love the skinny guac; veggies and guacamole with a salty/spicy lime flavor one thing I want to mention to management; there are a lot of families with kids in the Marina - the bathroom is really big and has room for a child's changing station, please put one in! I really love Tacko. If you're coming for Mexican food, don't bother. If you're coming for whatever this is, like Mexican food done via the Betty Crocker Cookbook circa 1963, it's perfect. Tortillas that are deliciously toasted with a buttery, flaky crisp edges (what? In a burrito? Wtf?) And, of course, my favorite: Nick's way Shrimp Crunchy/Soft double tortilla throw down. Best of all is the huge array of aguas frescas which can all be mixed and matched for further expanding your drinking options. Protip: Jamaica/Lime and Watermelon/Lime mix particularly well. read more

A good, somewhat quick stop for quality tacos. I have only gotten the Nicks tacos, chicken. Its loaded w shredded chicken thats full of smokey flavor and topped w delicious pico de gallo, gauc, and cheese (no beans for me! #pickyeater). All taco orders come w a handful of crispy chips and two salsas, a green and a brown one that i cant figure out what it is but its absolutely delicious. Its perfect for topping your taco off or dipping your chips, spicy, smoky, and just so addicting. All for like $5! Pretty filling for a "small" order. read more

Yum! I was really happy to hear that Tacko had the same owners at Nick's Crispy tacos because I'm a huge fan. I went to try it out on Tuesday (clearly, Taco Tuesday) and the food was amazing, just like at Nick's. I ordered WAY too much-- Carne Asada Taco, Nick's way Baja Fish Taco, Nick's way Corn Everything was so delicious, and the tacos were so big I wasn't able to finish them. I'm so happy to know this place is so close to my apartment (or am i?) The only downside is that the Taco Tuesday wasn't nearly as cool as at Nick's. The street tacos were $2 and Tecate's were $2, but that's about it. I would have liked to see some margarita or pitcher specials....The vibe also wasn't as great. There weren't as many people there and they didn't have the party music on! BUT one thing that really blew my mind was the selection of hot sauce--they had everything you could ever want to smother your taco in! I will absolutely be back to eat tacos here again! read more

WOW. Just ate two of the best tacos I've ever had. Got a chicken taco and a steak taco, both "Nick's style". Topped with salsa, guacamole (fresh, good), beans. If you like Nick's Crispy Tacos, you will like it here. They serve the tacos "Nick's way", which is the only way. They have a lot more options on the menu and a variety of drinks. The chicken tacos and the fish tacos were good. The elote con queso ($3.50) was tasty! You can't really go wrong with their guacamole, so be sure to give that a try. We love this place. We have a daughter with Celiac and we have a son who is super picky and we can all go to dinner here and find something we like and something we can eat. Came across this spot with the boys after a little wine tasting at Fort Mason. It isn't Nick's Tacos or Tacolicious, but I wouldn't say ignore this place. You'll get some satisfying burritos and tacos with no short-changing on the guacamole (huge plus) for a good price. My veggie taco was STUFFED and overflowing with guac and salad - I thought if need a fork to eat it, but managed. Loved the soft and hard tortillas sandwiched together. High quality products make for tasty and healthy grub. Mexican with Californian sensibility and freshness. I would have ordered Lobster roll but not a fan of foccacia. This place made me uneasy from the beginning, I had a gut feeling it wasn't going to impress just based on it's weird Nantucket theme. I though I was petty, but not petty enough to keep myself and my girlfriend from getting food poisoning apparently. I had it the worst, vomiting my Baja burrito before bed and 3 more times after. In the restaurant, my girlfriend asked a waiter to heat up her burrito because it had solid blocks of cheese in it, who met her with attitude before the manager took over. These tacos are $4-5 each but seriously large, with great ingredients and balance of flavors. One taco is enough if you're not so hungry, two if you're starving. You can get them traditional Mexican or Nick's way, Nick's being one crispy fried tortilla nestled inside one soft one. The Baja fish is delicious, especially with a few squirts of the red and green sauces they put on each table. Tacko seems to be styling itself in the San Diego way, so I don't understand the whole Nantucket theme they have going on with the decor. But the space is big and clean, good for eating all by yourself or with a huge group. If the latter, try the sangria bucket. read more

The best part of Tacko is that it's high quality food at reasonable prices. They take all of these excellent ingredients and put them into great tacos and burritos. I went into Tacko with high expectations, I had heard great things and it was one of the top things on my list when I visited the city. I was most excited for the guacamole, which everyone raves about and receives high praise. There was hardly any line, which was surprising because of everything I read online. Our group ordered chips and salsa with guac. As expected the guac did not disappoint, it was perfect texture but could have had a bit more of a kick. The chips on the other hand were flat out stale, they were hard to eat and not too enjoyable. The salsa was average pico de gallo. I ordered the Nick's Way carne asada tacos, which were pretty good. The shell of the tacos were very weird, as if they weren't properly cooked, they had a soft top shell but a hard under shell. The carne asada was delicious but there were beans in the actual taco and it wasn't listed on the menu posted. I'm not a big fan of beans, and I never order them so I was a little irked, but I powered through. The guac on the tacos was the best part. The tacos came with no sides and it wasn't clear at the time of ordering that everything was individual order. I wasn't too impressed and I was shocked that there were so many awesome reviews after this experience. I would say it's not really worth the time. read more
