From a girl who's never been to Nick's Crispy Tacos (but must go there soon), this was definitely a pleasant look into Nick's taco ventures. The pollo taco was off the hook, as was the sauce selection! I loved that the chicken was actually flavored, unlike many of the taco joints that just give you plain, shredded chicken. One taco is definitely a generous portion, so it filled me up for lunch -- keep that in mind when you order. The tacos are wrapped tightly and neatly, so despite been loaded with ingredients, they never fall apart! I loved the New England vibe! What a great place to hang out, grab a bite, and socialize. Can't beat lunch for $4.50! Definitely a worthy use of space, unlike its lame predecessor, Kasa. read more

Mexican in the marina, so not much can be expected. But it's decent, which is better than the other places around here. Their baja burrito is far superior to the other burritos. The tacos are a good size and the pitchers of their drinks make this place a convenient stop if you are out in the marina with friends and want somewhere to eat and drink. They would be a good late night stop but they avoid having to deal with the drunk crowd by closing at 10pm. It opens at 11:30am (a little past 11:30am when I went there today) and it's not good enough to stay hungry for 30 more minutes, so I probably won't add it to the normal rotation of places I get lunch at but it's nice to have in the neighborhood. read more

I was referred to have lunch in this spot & I am so glad I did! I ordered a chicken taco (Nick's Way) and let me start off by saying ordering ONE was my first mistake! I should have ordered like, 3! Ha Ha! It was some of the best guacamole I've ever had! They serve cola's in the old school bottles and the place feels fresh and airy. Quick service around lunch time even tho they were pretty busy. If you're a fan of Nick's Crispy Tacos or The Taco Shop @ Underdogs in the Sunset, you'll like Tacko. Exact same menu, the only thing different is the decor. I hang out in the Marina way more than I do the Sunset so this is very convenient for me. The only thing I don't like is that the stools are way too high with no foot rest so your legs just dangle. Also the wait in line to order can be a bit long considering you don't get your food right away. Other than that, I've always been a fan and always say these are the best tacos in town. I'm glad they opened this location. BTW, their hot sauce selection is simply ridiculous. read more

For a Tuesday night this place was packed! You order at the register, they give you a #, and they deliver to your table. The average wait in line seemed to be a minimum of 15 mins. I ordered 2 tacos and a pail (choice of red/white sangria). I opted for the Nicks Way Tacos - carne asada & gulf shrimp taco. It was pricey - $24! The carne asada was definitely the way to go - super tasty and topped with guacamole - yummers! The gulf shrimp was just ok. In the pail is crushed ice and your choice of sangria, I opted for the red, and 4 straws. Not really my style, but you can self serve and pour into the glasses at the counter. The sangria was just ok, there also serve beer as an alternative. We sat for about 2 hours, although the seating isn't abundant. I had a taste for my friend's tortilla soup and although she thought it was on the bland side, I appreciated it - chunks of avocado, lots of tortilla strips. read more

People really need to stop talking about all the other places that sell tacos in the city and just review the restaurant at hand. This isnt a poll, its a subjective review/rating of one restaurant. As for my experience at tacko, it was pleasant: The girl at the register was friendly, my san francisco carne asada burrito was made correctly, and the free chips and salsa they put in the bag were pretty solid. The burrito itself actually impressed me. I like that it is thrown on the grill once rolled to give it a charred taste. The ingredients were well porportioned and no single ingredient overpowered the rest (in my book, the key to a successful burrito). Its not the type of burrito you would get at a hole in the wall taqueria, but i wasnt expecting it to be, given the wierd cape cod decor. In summary, I am happy to have found a place close to home to get a solid burrito. My original unposted draft of this review would have been lower due to the original cash only system which drives me nuts (this has since been replaced with a $10 minimum for plastic - still annoying, but much less so). read more

I am sad after my California burrito from here. I lived in San Diego my whole life, born and raised. Recently moved up to SF after finishing school, I began to be burritosick and needed some comfort from a good ol' California burrito. I found this place from a few websites claiming "top burritos in SF" and luckily Tackos was just a couple blocks away from where I lived. Right off the bat, I already knew this wasn't an what it would be by reading the description: *Your choice of meat (strike 1, this should only be carne asada with an underground menu of Adobada), french fries (half strike for being thick cut), cheese (what kind of cheese was this? Did not blend well with the meat. Another half strike), and pico de gallo (strike 3). For those who want a quick review: Wouldn't get the California Burrito again. Continued Rant for those who are interested: Where's the sour cream? The cheese? Too much cheese. Try spreading the cheese around, I bit into a chunk of it; also the cheese didn't go well with the meat. The meat had too much flavor that it was overwhelming. Also why was the burrito "toasted" on the bottom from the grill? To keep the burrito from opening? That's not how you keep it from opening, you use a bigger flour tortilla to help keep it closed. Also, what kind of tortilla was this? I'm expecting a floury, warm, soft tortilla. Saddened to say, I have yet to find my California Burrito twin up here in the Bay. The search continues. read more

If you're looking for good Mexican food and a beer, this is a solid option. Their tacos are excellent and the portions are decent. Two tacos should be enough, three max if you're supa hungry. They have a decent selection of beer on tap. No Corona though, which was weird (to me?). They serve Modelo instead (eh, it works). Also, grab a cup of their "Agua Fresca." It's sort of like lemonade, but they have flavors ranging from Lime to Sangria. My actual rating would be 3.5. The interior was very bright and fresh, a Nantucket-themed burrito/taco joint...down to a tee, the high top tables and bar counters were a wooden nautical ship deck, the stool bases were white wrought iron and the wall decor made up of Massachusetts, Nantucket and seafaring prints... it added to the charm of the place. When we walked in at 7ish on a Wednesday night, it was pretty calm, only a few tables were occupied. At that time there also was a happy hour with margaritas and white and red sangria. How could a girl resist? I ordered the seafood tacos with mahi mahi and guac on the side. The fish was perfectly cooked and the cabbage slaw and guac all tasted delicious together. I would liked some sort of spicy kick to bring the whole taco together, but I enjoyed the flour tortillas, they weren't overwhelming and the two tacos served were a good size. The prices were reasonable and the location of the restaurant was great, right off Union Street. You order up front and the meal is served to you, seat yourself, no muss, no fuss. This is no authentic Mexican restaurant, but if you're going for that California-Mexican type ish... you'll find it here no problem. This place has abundant amounts of seating. Even during a busy rush I never have a problem locating some empty seats for my friends and I. They also have an incredible amount of beverage choices. Mexican sodas, regular sodas, cervezas, and fresh and fruity homemade sangria. Score. There are copious amounts of hot sauce for your choosing located by the water station. You can grab a few and bring them to your table. They probably have at least 40 different kinds of hot sauce so you're options are pretty much endless when it comes to spicing things up. I order the vegetarian burrito which is insane. The burritos are a good size, and they are delicious! You can tell the ingredients are fresh, and I appreciate that. They even have their own salsas in squeeze bottles located on every table in the restaurant. I believe these are the same salsas that Nick's Crispy Tacos serves up at their restaurant (as this place is owned by the same people). If you're planning on getting a burrito, you are making a mistake. The quesadilla is basically the exact same thing, but it has been fried and has an awesomely flakey crusty shell. The chips and salsa are a great deal, and the chips are good and homemade. Great spot for a quick bite in the Marina/Cow Hollow area! The "street style" tacos are yummy - and it's nice if you can't make a decision about what kind of taco you would like (which tends to happen to me). You have the option of chicken, carne asada, and carnitas. The guacamole is good as well and they always give you a heaping portion - definitely big enough to share. Another favorite thing on the menu is the mexican salad - most of the time I don't even add the dressing because the flavor is so good on it's own. I typically get it with carne asada! Decent food, but holy smokes I must've gotten the service on a bad day. I've never been grilled so hard by a cashier- from her checking IDs (questioning whether Hong Kong was a country), to me asking for the chips I paid for, and then asking where the salsa was- it felt like she was about to whip out some advanced interrogation techniques from Casino Royale. (I was Daniel Craig and she was Mads Mikkelsen creeping out of the dark in the torture scene). Exaggeration aside... probably won't go back. It left me with a sour taste. read more

Long time user, first reviewer. I am giving four star's based on Tacko's potential. Goods: the hot sauce selection was amazing including the home made green and red sauce, there was easy access to water with large cups (cough Nicks Crispy Tacos), and the california burrito was pretty ok! My gripes: the guac was a little bland, the salsa in my burrito was a little too sweet, and the size of the burrito left room for appetite. They are sooo close to having the first really good California burrito in San Francisco (carne asada burrito with french fries). If they get this right, they could make a killing. Decor: cool decor but the menu was impossible to read until you are next in line - put a light on that thing or have one of your table cleaners pass out menus to people in line with a friendly hello!! I have been here three times, and each time have had great experiences with the food and service. I am not typical a carne asada person or even a big taco eater, but this one rocks. The steak is high quality, expertly prepared, served in a lightly fried corn tortilla which is nested in a flour tortilla. It comes with beans, salsa, cheese and a yummy, clean guacamole. Definitely a craveable dish. Same story on the chicken taco. My son has had the cheese quesadilla, and it was crispy and d'lish. The horchata and strawberry aqua fresca was quite good, too. My wife and kids all really dug, and it's hard to get everyone on same page about where to eat. Will be back often. read more

The food is fine. I like the atmosphere and I appreciate the concept, but I just don't really like their food. It is bland. The seafood is over cooked every time I go. I have had it in tacos, salads and even the lobster roll but that is all. The meat might be delicious. I just don't think it is worth it. I would eat somewhere else. read more

Omg. Maybe I'm just biased because tacos are my favorite food, but I love this place! If I lived near it I would order take-out all the time. The street tacos are fantastic. I really like their carnitas and the huge selection of hot sauces. They are speaking my language! The sangria is pretty good as well. It's an "order at the counter and take your number" kinda spot, so if you're in a hurry, this is a good place to stop in. My coworker and I stopped here before a comedy show an hour before it started and made it to the show in plenty of time. SO good. read more

This was probably the most overrated taco place ever. The salsa was bland, i had to add salt to everything I ordered. I ordered the mexican trio taco, which had chicken , carnitas and asade. Everything was bland, meat was too chewy and chicken one I couldn't even finish. I added too much red and green salsa to add some flavor to the taco, but both the salsa didn't have any flavor to begin with. I would recommend adding some salt and herbs to their food preparation. The place felt more like a bar then food joint. read more
