Friday night a few weeks ago, the girlfriend & I were on our way to the really cool little bar just down the street. We decided we need to put something solid in our tummies before swilling down numerous tasty cocktails. & then we saw Taco Bell. It was an impulse choice borne out of convenience. Convenience is, after all, a strong selling point of fast food. This Taco Bell was certainly that & fast, cheap & clean too. Service was typical fast food, which is to say adequate & uninspired. The girlfriend & I managed to get enough food to effectively assuage the deluge of booze that was about to ensue & we got it all for under $10. Sure, it's food filled with mystery meat-like substances, but it did the trick. Hey, it's a Taco Bell. Everyone knows eating here means getting some bastardized version of cheap Gringo Mexican food. Beyond slow in the drive through. If you want to spend 30 minutes+ in a fast food drive through, when there were only 1 or 2 cars ahead just to place an order, than this is the place to be. When you finally get to the window to pay, they say it will be one minute and end up taking 10-15 to hand your food to you, and beware after all that waiting your order could be incorrect. Check before rushing out after waiting so long. I love Taco Bell as a quick lunch and a go to fast food spot but this one is not worth the wait. Was driving through on my way home from San Francisco and decided to pick up lunch. I have to say I was thoroughly impressed with everything. The food was delicious and hot, the employees were happy and helpful, especially the man in the drive thru who checked to make sure that all the items that were no dairy for a good allergy were correct. And our no dairy items were also put in a separate bag so that we didn't have to go digging through all the items to guess which one was which. Very pleasant experience! read more

I have gone to this Taco Bell many times during my time at UC Berkeley. This is by far one of the worst Taco Bells I have seen. The number of times I have found my drive thru order missing an item, had to wait an unnecessarily long time for an order, or asked for a freezee when the machine was broken has far outweighed the uneventful experiences. If you're on the fence over trying this specific Taco Bell, statistically speaking I would recommend against it. read more

See normally I would've gave a 4 star but I've subtracted one due to the fact that they only have drive through open for CARS. The lady that was working the drive through line was rude. First off, she forgot to give me my beverages. So I had to signal her to give me my drinks. Then, after I had got my beverages, before I could ask for more hot sauce, she closes the window. Then I signal her to ask for my hot sauce and she rolls her eyes at me and lets out what appears to be a disgruntled sigh. It's like, cmon lady, you're not even busy. Chill. I ask for more hot sauce and she tells me it's in the bag. I asked for more hot sauce to compensate for the minuscule amount they normally give. I didn't say, oh you forgot the hot sauce. This place has declined in quality over the last few months, and that's bad because it's standards were not high to begin with. With the drive through you are lucky if you get the order right 40% of the time. I order food and the person behind the cash register insists that what I order don't exists. I got to the point of just letting them give me what ever so I can feed my 7 year old. I know what's going on . They pay the employees shit so they don't give a shit and I don't blame them. A great $3 lunch! I know, fast food and all that, but being able to get a satisfying lunch for just $3 in this day and age is something to celebrate. Stopped in here after an active morning and ordered 2 bean burritos. The cost was $3.05 and the nutrition carried me well into dinner. This particular Taco Bell was nice. The bulk of their business is drive through, but they were attentive and the foot was up to standard. The floor was a little greasy but so it goes. This gives me no pleasure as I've been to this location countless times, it being really close to my home. LAST NIGHT I FOUND A BLACK, 3/4-INCH HAIR ON MY TRIPLE LAYER NACHOS. For your reference the food was purchased on 11/25/18, 4:02 PM, at the drive-thru and the cashier was EYOSIAS B. I'm not planning on ever returning to this location as I've lost confidence that they're following food safety protocols. Just to add, I phoned this location today so at least they might improve things for other customers. A woman with a heavy accent answered and I asked to speak with the manager. The woman's response was, "huh?". I repeated myself more slowly. The woman then said, "She not here. She here tomorrow." So it doesn't seem like there is even consistent leadership at this location. They're not open 24/7 anymore. That's good to know. I don't have the new hours exactly, but on Sun. and Mon. they close at midnight. The rest of the week is about one or two, but they're no longer open all night. The food isn't that bad, if they make it properly. It's still a great value, lots of vegetarian options (avoid the sour cream, as it has gelatin), including rice, beans, and red sauce. Still, the main draw was that this was the only place open at 3am. Not any more. They also shut down some of the equipment before closing, so they may not have certain items if you go late at night. One great thing that I realized about all Taco Bells is that they'll let you substitute fried potatoes for meat in their Chalupas, Gorditas, and tacos (and probably burritos, too). They'll let you do that with refried beans, too, but the potato option is great if you don't like refried beans. This probably isn't an important issue to most people, but they don't brew their own iced tea. Don't be fooled by the metal iced tea container they have at their beverage stand and the "Real Brewed" Tetley sign. If you look at the back of the container, you'll see hoses just like those used for soft drinks. It's instant iced tea, and "real brewed" refers to the taste, not the way it's made. --------- Edit: I've bumped it up to three stars because after the remodel, they're open 24/7 now. It's never going to be great, but if you want something vegetarian-friendly and don't want to get out of your car (and who does?), this is a great place to go at 3AM. The Mexican pizza made without meat is really good. And so is the nacho cheese chalupa with potatoes instead of meat. And you have to love a place that serves Pepsi. read more

I stopped by here after I forgot the dinner that I had made for myself at home. Ordered the chicken cantina bowl - chicken, beans, rice, lettuce, guacamole, and sour cream. Clearly not a finger food. I got to where I was going and pulled it out to eat before I went in, only to find that underneath the container with my food there was only a couple packets of salsa verde and a handful of napkins. NO spork. When I pulled up to the window I said "hi" he says "$17.00", when I say keep the change from a $20 for a tip he says nothing, when he gives me my order he slams the glass window shut while I was saying thank you. I was having an awful day. I needed some fake Tex-Mex to keep me going. I was so happy to see the calorie and fat content displayed on their fresco menu. I am totally diggin' their fresco grilled steak soft tacos right now. It's way guilt free. There was no queue for the drive-thru on a Tuesday before 5:30pm. Taco Bell was one of my favorite fast foods growing up. When I was little, I used to be able to eat six regular Taco Bell tacos in one sitting. I have since restricted myself to either two or three. I still love Taco Bell, unfortunately The Mother does not, so it is a rare occasion I go on my own. The two Taco Bell locations my family and I used to go to are no more. The first one used to be on University Avenue in Berkeley. It was closed down and another Mexican restaurant took its spot, bricks, mortar, and all. The last time I looked, it was a doughnut place. There was one in Downtown Berkeley. And that spot is now occupied by a Papa Johns. About two, three or so years ago this location underwent a much needed makeover and renovation. I thought it was all right. I was able to adjust to the placement of the menus and the procedures of where to order. Not much of a problem for me since I usually order the same ol' same-o: dos tacos, uno frijoles, y uno arroz (two tacos, one refried beans, and one rice). The staff there are pretty nice, they do care to get the order right. Unfortunately, there is no more 24-hour drive thru at this Taco Bell location. (Bummers!) Want your order messed up? Order from here. Multiple times have I ordered delivery from this place and many many times have I been missing items or the order is wrong. Normally I'd brush it off since it's not a huge deal and just get a refund for whatever I'm missing. This time the drinks are missing entirely, the soft tacos are crunchy tacos, and the burritos are not the ones I ordered. Really ridiculous how many times my order has been messed up. read more

Not sure why I've read negative reviews about this Taco Bell. I think every Taco Bell should strive to be more like this one. I always get the same items or combination of items usually Beef gordita supreme 1/2 lbs cheese beefy burrito "grilled" Enchirito Reg taco This Taco Bell is so consistent and makes great food. Today I was reminded why I stopped going to Taco Bell 2 years ago. For a staff 4 you would think that they could handle an order of ONE customer inside the restaurant, a relatively small order of around $10 took over 15 minutes of waiting for the order, in that time I could have just drove to Chipotle down the street instead and picked up my order. The lobby was a complete trash with receipt papers strewn everywhere like a ticker tape parade. While the young girl cashier Emily who was doing nothing by the window, could've picked up a broom and swept the floor and restocked the condiments. Meanwhile 3 employees working the kitchen seem to only be making orders for the drive thru & forgot that customers do enter the lobby & wait for a unusually long time for their order, they might as well lock the door if they don't respect the customers at all. I thought this was supposed to be "fast food" & it should never be this slow. Period. read more

First time tonight, ordering online with the Taco Bell App. Super easy, you select "now" as the time of pick up and that means it'll be ready for you in 15 minutes. When I arrived, they were just finishing the last 2 of my 5 items. There are 4 workers and they seem busy, so maybe a lot of people use their online ordering process because I was the only person inside. The inside tables were empty but there were 4 cars in the drive thru. I ordered 1 each from the Dollar Cravings of their Fritos beef burrito, bean/cheese burrito, triple melt burrito, triple melt nachos & quesadilla. Everything was fresh, hot and correct! The $1/each price is right and no wait. The table tops and condiment station were orderly and clean. I don't fully understand why others give this location such low reviews but I suspect it is specific to their drive thru long waits. Skip drive thru for best results. read more

When I crave "healthy" fast food, Taco Bell does the trick. It's just the standard chain but the service and food here is decent. A crunch wrap or gordita or some basic item has "un-crankified" my blood sugar levels in several rushed situations. My friend is a diabetic so we are driving along San Pablo Ave. decided to get something quick here I thought it would only take five minutes to get a couple tacos but it turned out to be a 20 minute ordeal we place the order at the drive-through speaker there in then waited for the next card to get their order it it took them 15 to 20 minutes to get the order in then we got up we thought our food would be handed to us but we had a wait additional 68 minutes in order for our food to arrive through the window the staff didn't seem to care about customer service at all this was a horrible experience and I probably won't go back to this Taco Bell again read more
