These street tacos from A Mano were good. We have here one chicken and two beef. I preferred the…read morechicken over the beef; the chicken had much more flavor and the toppings complimented the meat. The beefs were good too, but the chicken was top notch! The chicken taquitos were really good too, there was so much topping it was like having a salad with my taquitos! During lunch, it was not that busy. The place was very cutely theme, a modern take on mexican traditional decoration.

I recently started a deep dive of highly rated taco places in Willimantic, and A Mano Taco Shop is…read moreone of those places. A Mano has a different POV than the other Willimantic places I've tried so far. While the other taquerias I've tried are more or less traditional (Pastor, Bistec, etc. with cilantro, onions and a few other classic toppings), A Mano has a more modern and creative take on tacos. In terms of the Willimantic spots, A Mano is the most modern in terms of art and the space, which includes outside tables on a wood deck out front, and at least one small inside table. I'm not sure if they had additional seating in a different room or upstairs, but that's possible given the building design. I suspect they have a robust takeout business as well. I ordered a Pastor Taco, and a Sweet Potato Black Bean Taco. The corn tortillas were fresh made and very good. The tacos arrived with the small round tortillas mostly flat and side by side in a takeout container, and the toppings artfully displayed on top. The toppings were slightly different for each taco. The pastor taco had marinated pork, pineapple chunks, micro greens, and avocado based salsa. I ordered a Pastor taco at each Willimantic place. A Mano was the only one so far to feature pineapple chunks, which I really like for Pastor tacos. This sweetness was important for balancing the saltiness from the pastor. Without that sweetness, the flavors would have been out of balance. The pastor was tender. The avocado salsa was good. I like the use of microgreens for the color, shape and fresh flavor it brings. A definite way to distinguish your taco. I ordered the sweet potato black bean taco because I've never seen it on a menu and I was intrigued. I was expecting the sweet potatoes and black beans to be in pieces, but the presentation was actually puréed or at least stewed to a smooth texture. This taco was topped with the same micro greens and avocado salsa, but it had pickled red onions. This taco was well executed and looked great, but if I had known it was going to be puréed, I probably would have gone a different direction just based on personal preference. I like that A Mano has different toppings for different tacos. In addition to the above toppings, I noticed corn, cilantro, slaw, mango and more as different toppings on certain tacos. A Mano's menu features other cool things like Birria Ramen, Street Corn, loaded fries, churros, flan. It's definitely the type of menu you'd like to explore. Service was very friendly. Both service and the atmosphere are a factor in my 4.5 Star rating, which rounds up to 5 Stars. If I was just rating the tacos, the score would be 4.25 Stars.

Fortunately, we were seated quickly. Service was excellent, and the vibrant, modern atmosphere felt trendy yet comfortable. Noise levels were pretty manageable, even as the dining room filled up. I had the buttermilk fried chicken taco, which had great texture and crunch--just a touch more seasoning would've really made it shine. The pork belly taco was melt-in-your-mouth tender with rich flavor, though the celery and apple slaw on top didn't quite hold up--it looked great but lacked the apple part and was dry. Next time, I think I'd try one of the other interesting tacos instead. For my main dish, I had the cilantro pesto chicken burrito with rice and beans--delicious, generously filled, and perfectly seasoned. My girlfriend had the mushroom enchiladas, which were hearty and earthy, though a bit more seasoning could have brought out the full potential of the dish, as it seemed like it was just unseasoned mushrooms in a tortilla. Overall, Sayulita remains a solid choice with consistently good food, friendly service, and a lively vibe. A reservation option would make it even better--but until then, arriving early is the way to go!

I told the it was our first time there and the lady taking my order answered some questions I had with a smile. I ordered 1 cow tongue taco, 1 al pastor taco, a kids beef burrito and a steak burrito. The kids burrito is a great deal. You get a choice of a burrito or quesadilla and it comes with fries for 9 bucks. The lady was so humble she didn't even realize they had great reviews online until I showed her. Everything was good with my favorite being the burrito and the cow tongue and my least favorite being the al pastor (not that it wasn't good, it was just ok). The food was ready quickly and they even gave us 2 of their limeades on the house! Delicious btw I highly recommend their homemade limeade. I love that they use corn tortillas for the tacos. The pork belly taco was drenched in kimchi, not my favorite but a good cut of pork belly. I like the lamb taco tasted just like a mini lamb gyro. The baja fish taco was my favorite though, it's comes in a huge slab. it was so good I ordered another. I love the chipotle sauce the Baja fish taco comes with too. The music was awesome too, such a vibe. A lot of EDM, felt like all they were missing was a disco ball. Very delicious, would come back.

We started with frozen margaritas which were cold, refreshing, and a solid way to kick things off. The ground beef nachos came loaded with queso and guac, and the extra chips on the side made it easy to share. The birria tacos with the dipping sauce were one of the highlights, juicy and full of flavor. The smash burger taco was a fun twist and worked surprisingly well. We also tried a few different tacos including a shrimp steak taco with crispy onions and chimichurri crema, and a blackened shrimp taco with mango pico which added a nice contrast. The taco of the month, a blackened sirloin steak taco with horseradish crema and corn pico de gallo, brought something a little different to the table. We finished with a churro funnel cake topped with cinnamon sauce which was warm and a great dessert to share. Overall, a solid spot for tacos with a lot of variety and creative options. Definitely worth checking out if you're in the area.

My bill came out to $16.91 including tax. The steak tacos had plenty of meat-but the seasonings were lackluster at best but the fresh lime helped out to give it some taste/flavor. The corn tortillas were doubled up as per usual, heated on the grill and filled with steak & cilantro and they didn't break (surprisingly)! I was underwhelmed- the tacos were just tacos, nothing special, no flavor profile was evident: except the cilantro & lime. The steak (really beef meat) was chewy; very chewy... so sad & disappointing. The rice and beans is what really threw me off (please look at the pic). It had what looked like yellow rice stir fry vibes with frozen peas and carrots=sided with refried beans!!? There was literally a miniscule amout of taste, flavor and eye appeal. The rice seemed tasteless and I tried to mix the refried beans with the rice and made it worse! In my 35t years of Cheffing-it-up, I've NEVER seen Spanish, Mexican,Puerto Rican or ANY Latino rice and beans look and taste like that! ( I WANTED A KNIFE TO SCRAP MY TONGUE!!!) I do understand that different cultures prepare their rice & beans differently, but this was the first and last time I see and taste something like this and call it rice and beans! Oh my... I rate the rice and beans [negative]-2.25 out of 5 stars and the tacos 1.75 stars out of 5 stars. This was an interesting experience to say the least. Thanks Chef Clinton
