The vibe and service are awesome with a beachy feel literally right off the beach! The seating however is pretty uncomfortable outside on big picnic tables. And the birds are always going after your food! The menu is standard Mexican upscale tacos etc. Great drink menu however the drinks are very small of the price! The food is also overpriced for basic tacos etc but you are paying for the vibes. I used to go to the original taco boy when it was more of a taco shack inland. I'm happy to see this local brand thriving but do think it's over priced for what it is but that being said I'm sure we will be back to this location and the Nexton location. read more

Taco Boy is a beach street gem with a great vibe. Perfect spot to come after working up an appetite on the beach all day. Definitely a family neighborhood taqueria--very family friendly. Kitchen is scratch-made, Mexican-inspired cuisine. We all sat wide eyed at the menu even though we KNEW that we'd end up ordering tacos but the menu sounds SO good. Also, the drinks?! Had terrible service with just okay food. We were sat at a large table where we sat next to strangers. Would not recommend going.

We came here to eat because it looked like a great place. We sat at the bar, and from the moment we sat down, the bartender ignored us. She eventually came over and took our order, but our food was served with no utensils. We asked for some, and she ignored us again. After about 10 minutes, she finally came over with a couple of forks--with an attitude--and said, "Here's as many forks as you like." It was the worst experience. She wasn't friendly and was honestly very rude. I went to the hostess to let them know she did not give us good service. He proceeded to tell me she wasn't actually a bartender, just a waitress helping out because they were understaffed. I understand that, but all she had to say was, "I'm so sorry--we're doing our best, and I'm sorry for the delay." The food is also terrible! read more

We order drinks.. 11:05 comes and the bouncer from the door comes upstairs to the bar and yellls "everyone out, we close at 11- we want to go home" and look I've worked in service and I get that! I truly do! It was so rude and abrasive we all sort of just stared.. then he said "I'm serious! My group enjoyed sitting inside at the bar while also getting a great view of the patio through the outside window. They have $5 margaritas on Tuesday and are also able to make virgin drinks! Taco Boy provides great vibes and is a really good price point. Drinks run $9-12 and tacos are ~$5-6. We put our name down and despite multiple open tables had a thirty minute wait (we're assuming due to low staff). We ended up going to the third floor where you have a quieter, ocean view but have to serve yourself at the bar. We were really happy with this decision and loved the space. They even have live music upstairs which just added to the experience. We got a variety of tacos with our favorites being the birria, Buffalo chicken ranch and firecracker shrimp. While we loved the tacos I'm deducting a star because the chips were genuinely bad. You do have to pay for them here, so we got the trio dipping sauces but the chips were so stale it was hard to eat. I don't know if this was a fluke thing, we did ask for more and they were slightly better but still bad (multiple chips bended instead of breaking). All in all I'd return, hoping the chips were a fluke experience. read more

First of all, I completely adore the vibe of this spot! So cute and eclectic! Tons of pretty colors and fun things to look at while you eat! The food was pretty good, I had the chip and salsa platter and a chicken tinga taco. Am visiting from California. Executive chef Mike Reiring made special accommodations for our party of 5 because I wasn't able to climb the stairs. He had a table set up on the ground level. Very sad to see how far Taco Boy has fallen from their heydey. We've been longtime patrons (10+ years) of both this location on Folly and also their Charleston location. Our most recent trip to Folly was disappointing for everyone in our group of 9 people. The restaurant health dept rating is now a B, which is eyebrow raising. The water glasses on the table had a residue on the glass. The table was not clean underneath. They had a limited menu for the 4th holiday week, but failed to say anything when the kimchi tacos were served without kimchi (we had to ask what's up). The drinks used to be a strength but are now forgettable in both taste and presentation. The tacos were nowhere near their former selves both for taste and presentation. As a positive, our waiter was very attentive and efficient. Sadly, we're dropping Taco Boy from our future visits to the area. read more

Love the corn here. Sometimes it takes FOREVER to get your food, but the wait staff is nice. Love sitting out on the porch and feeling the breeze and people watching. My husband and brother always get the nachos and birria tacos. I like the fish taco and carne asada tacos. Found receipt in my food when I placed to go order it was in my sour cream they went back they remade it. Then sat us at a table waitress from we that served us she was an amazing. She looked at mine because it had a little normal wear and tear it and flimsy it had to be a 'fake' Id mind you my sister had her old id and it was also flimsy. They kept asking to keep looking at my id prior to this I was already served three drinks and had drinks yesterday too and no one had an issue .If they really believed it was fake they could have involved the police but it didn't come to that to verify if it was real. The general manager had came over and said he was no longer going to be serving me drinks because they couldn't verify it was real because the id I had from when I was high school was vertical and had wear and tear and suggested I get a new one. But what I really think it was she just didn't want to serve me and my friend. And when my sister suggested they get a id scanner the general manager stated that those can't verify if ids are real or not when that's not exactly true. They did comp the meals but regardless of that it's the principle and the general managers dismissiveness of the problem. read more

Drinks are well balanced - I learned there are two days a week staff comes in for "prep shifts" as many of their syrups, mixes, etc are homemade. All the lighting and masks on the wall just makes this place look so unique. Look forward to trying out the food next time. I always love going to Taco Boy! This was the first time I've been to the Folly Beach location though. I have to say the restaurant is large and definitely feels beachy. Lots of places to look over and get some water views. This location was VERY busy though and I was here with a large group of 5-6 people for dinner so there was a substantial wait for a table. We did get to have appetizers and drinks on the balcony though so there is space to wait. Whenever I go to a Taco Boy location I always get the tacos. This time I got the fried fish taco, the fried chicken taco, and the firecracker shrimp taco. The firecracker shrimp taco was my surprise favorite this time.
