Love that they know what "Machaca" means, and offer it both as un plato, or wrapped as a burrito. Sure, you could argue that Machacas are a very regional (mostly Northern, as I have gathered) phenomenon. But if you really wanna be a poopy pants about it, you could also argue that Burritos themselves aren't an "authentically Mexican" phenomenon either. What would you rather have, when it comes right down to it---- your slippery, subjective idea of Authentic, or a big arse meaty Burrito? I know which one I'm picking---- over and over again... Love that the service at the window has been unfailing polite and accommodating. That's 5 big ole "Loves" unscientifically right off the top o' my out-sized melon. The only real complaint is that even if you live/work fairly nearby this area, traffic is going to completely S-U-C-K most of their hours of operation, and unfortunately, Taco del Sol doesn't deliver. One of my all time favorite taco spots!! The asada (steak) tacos are to die for and only $1.25 each!! They have a little station with fresh toppings and the sauces are all amazing. The avocado salsa is my favorite by far! Today I tried the pork tamale and it was so good!! My boyfriend loves the rice and beans as his side and I always get fries as my side. Disgusting.This burrito was half-assed from the start. I got a bacon breakfast burrito and it had hash browns inside. The hash browns were mushy and more like mashed potatoes. There was 2 pieces of bacon laid in the burrito and broken up length wise. There were 2 eggs inside and they were cooked over easy and rolled up. All I can says is--WOW. Seriously? I've never had a breakfast burrito this bad that was cooked by Latino people before. To add insult to injury they charge 25¢ for additional hot sauces. Their subpar hot sauce couldn't save their mediocre attempt. I actually swallowed down the last bites of this burrito with--KETCHUP! I've lived in a few different places including San Diego and Las Vegas and know legit mexican food when I taste it. This place has it. The tacos were excellent with a healthy portion of meat, and the salsa bar had delicious options. Cons: -The limes on the day I went could have been fresher (they were still totally edible). -They had delicious hot sauces in plastic squeeze bottles floating around but they weren't on every table. Those sauces also weren't available at the salsa bar, so you had to work a bit to get some hot sauce Despite all that, I'd probably give it five stars for the food, but I only tried the tacos and cant vouch for the plethora of other tasty looking options the menu offers. They have all kinds of combination plates, breakfast plates, sopes, huaraches, mulitas and other stuff you don't always find, not to mention hamburgers and milkshakes. But who am I to judge if the latin food offerings aren't suffering? Next time I'm trying the michelada. read more

Our family went here to get our "taco fix". We had high hopes for this place. We made sure to go right before the dinner rush. I know it's not the restaurants fault if the patrons are rude, but OMG, it was ridiculous. Here I stood, balancing a sleepy toddler and a baby in an infant seat while the rude ass people took forever- the shooting the breeze with the cashier and then went looking for their wallet. Wtf. The cashier was pleasant, didn't apologize for the wait though. We had lots of options to choose from on their menu which was nice. All the empty tables were dirty. The place just looked like a dive. There wasn't any avocado salsa for us, all the other tables had it. And I actually asked. :( The salsa bar was kind of a joke. We both ordered the carne asada. It was bland. Beans were bland. Everything was. I didn't finish my meal because I didn't think it was worth the calories. The cashier was more than helpful when she brought out our food. I don't think I will return here. We've passed by it numerous times and it wasn't till our friends said to give it a try that we did. We are very sorry TACO DEL SOL for waiting so long. This place is PERFECT! Everything is made fresh and tastes delicious. It's been only one week and we've been there twice. Very friendly staff, great atmosphere and you can dine-in or carry out. They also have a drive-thru. They take card and cash. Oh and open till midnight. If you happen to be from Chicago, give their burgers a try, tastes like home. Their fries are seasoned but not too much, just the right amount. The tacos are fantastic and their sopes, as soon as I had my order, they were eaten in five minutes. Looking forward to trying their enchiladas and all 30+ items on their menu. For the price, location, and counter service style, these are our favorite tacos. It's a solid go to. Zero bad experiences. I go weekly, and if we're ever stuck without dinner at home, a quick run to Del Sol every time. Amazing prices and food. Their al pastor is ADDICTIVE. Steak or chicken tacos are loaded, no skimping, topped with white onion, cilantro, cheese, sauce - street tacos! Burritos and taquitos also reliable. I like that there's no inconsistency in the food. Staff has always been friendly and welcoming and show gratitude for your patronage and tips. Everything is fast too. The drive thru clearly states it's not fast food they're going to make it fresh to order. You wait just as long as you would inside. Antonio deserves a promotion if he hasn't had one already. He always remembers us and tells me to tell my boyfriend hi if he's not with me. He communicates clearly, reads back the order, never forgets stuff for to go orders. Yep, you know if I forget to take pics that the food was pretty darn good! Actually, this food was better than good. By far the best street tacos I have had in Portland. And I've been adamantly looking for tasty tacos! I tried the pastor, chicken and fish tacos. The fish taco is something you would make in your own kitchen and it's tasty! The chicken taco is a good staple and I think they gave me a carnitas by mistake. All three were good and served with cilantro and onion. The chips come to the table hot and sprinkled with a tasty spiced salt mix. Yum! There's a tiny salsa bar - one salsa, some limes, radishes, and a jalapeno/onion mix. I wasn't impressed with the "salsa bar" but the three sauces they bring to the table are top notch - an avocado sauce, a green salsa, and a red hot one (not that hot). It's a happy and convenient detour on my way home from work. It's cheap ($5.50 for chips and three tacos), clean, and the people are friendly. read more

First off note, this restaurant is on the North Side of 99W, not the left side as my GPS kept insisting. It's right next to an O'Reilly's Auto Parts Store. Yelp hasn't let me down yet. I was starving and decided to take my daughters out for some Mexican food. I am hard to please and honestly am not that impressed with most places in the Portland area. This place was very good. I ordered a Carne Asada Burrito and it was very tasty and the meat was tender and not at all grissily and tough. I would say I wish there would have been a bit more steak and not quite as much beans and rice in there. The service was fast and friendly. It is a clean place and you can even have a Mexican beer or real Coke if you want. All in all, glad I found this place and will visit often and may at some point raise them to five stars. No matter which way I order it, it is always wrong and he is always bummed. There is either onion or beans or something. $10 per burrito and after about 8 attempts for something simple. I'm over it. This has been my secret place for quite some time. Best Carne Asade plate, quesadillas, tacos for .99, and the BEST sausage breakfast burritos with big sliced up hunky bits of real sausage OMG. You know I was hesitant to post because I really don't want it to become over-crowded once the secret is out. They also have horchata and Jamaica to wash it all down. Where in this town can you find a glass of Jamaica water? I so love this place so don't tell your friends and well you know what, just don't go there. Really I mean it. What if you end up loving it as much as I do? I recently moved here from the Bay Area, where they have some great taquierias. Since I live in the burbs and haven't had much experience in PDX, I can only say the one place I go for tacos is Taco Del Sol. They have a huge menu and if I have a fix for some beef tacos, I go here. If I could, I would go here at least once a week. Get the beef taco plate, with beans and rice. Yum!! It's shredded beef with just onions and some kind of marinade, and I normally like my tacos loaded up with lettucs, tomato, etc. but the simplicity in these tacos and the marinade don't require all that stuff. If you hail from the Southwestern part of the US and you read the reviews about the "otherworldly" breakfast burritos (bacon, specifically) and find yourself getting your hopes up that perhaps you finally have found the spicy brekkie you have been craving.... um, don't. Unless you're craving a burrito supreme sized, Portlandish concoction of a bunch of unseasoned hash browns rolled up with a couple of slices of bacon - I know I certainly wasn't. What's even more astounding to me is the rapture this induces. I wonder what would happen if you served this up and put salt and pepper on it? Most of the community would be following you around, dying to know your secret and begging you to fold scrambled eggs in tortillas for the rest of your days. I don't hate Taco Del Sol, though. Their lengua tacos are pretty damn legit and I dig their minuscule green salsas they're super stingy with. Their cheese enchiladas are decent for a drive thru, when I'm too lazy to make my own and want them now. But their breakfast burritos? No. About the only thing you'll find worse there is their abysmal customer service skills, which you get used to and just learn to accept after a few visits. read more

Only hit the drive thru up so a somewhat limited experience but here's the rundown: I liked the burrito's, good size for the price and I'm kind of picky when it comes to burritos so when I find ones I like I stick with them. At around 5 dollars for just a burrito, they are pretty good sized and are filling. Taco's were good, but pretty standard fare. Service was a bit slow, ended up having to wait a bit. Also, evidently they charge an extra dollar if you get any breakfast menu item after 12pm, but there is no sign on the menu telling you that until you pull up to the window, which felt bogus. With that being said, I'll definitely be back, good food for a good price. read more

Went in for some hangover grub and the Machaca plate worked out perfectly. Fresh peppers, beef, onions, tomatoes cooked to order and I'm pretty sure the flour tortillas were homemade (I might be wrong on this, but I'll say they are for now). The only thing I was disappointed in was the quality of the salsa. Nothing tops off the perfect Machaca plate other than good salsa. Taco Del Sol's was watery and average. Tacos are excellent. Service is GARBAGE - slow, inaccurate, and rude. The last several times I've gone for taco Tuesday, they've screwed up mine and my teams order. We have done taco Tuesday with them at the office a lot. But as of recently, any "customer service" they had, is no longer. Last week was the final time I'll ever go and I'm the one to pick up for my team so that's 3-7 orders a week they're losing. We ordered over the phone, which is often a very RUSHED conversation topped with some serious attitude. I got there and they'd gotten the taco orders right (first time in at least 3 weeks) BUT they forgot the guacamole and two Jarritos. So I asked them to add it. It wasn't until I got back to the office before I realized they forgot one of the Jarritos ($2.50 each) and the guacamole ($7.50 - FAR too expensive to begin with). So we ate our lunch because by the time I drove back to correct it, wait at least 15 minutes for them - because they're ALWAYS SLOW - and then got back to the office, our food would be cold. So we ate....and I went back after.... When I got back, I pulled up at the drive thru because I hoped it would be faster and I needed to get back to work. I waited at the window for 5 minutes with several employees walking by and seeing me before I started to get frustrated and honked the horn to get their attention. 10 minutes after sitting there, finally someone came. He asked what I needed and I explained the situation and presented the receipt. He stared at it for a moment and questioned me. Then he pulled Adriana over (the employee that is always full of attitude and rushing customers, and getting orders wrong) to help me. I repeated the issue to her and she left, then came back with $7.50 for the missing guacamole. She started to shut the window and I said "wait, you still owe me $2.50 for the missing Jarritos" ($5 for two on the receipt - you do the math). She came back with $2 and as soon as I grabbed it, she said "for the Jarritos, it's $2!" And then slammed the window shut on me. It's 50 cents short, which wouldn't matter if the service wasn't already a complete joke. I won't be back. Ever. read more

Yes, I am a fan. Taco Del Sol is a great place to get your Mexican kick satisfied. I always feel good when I am one of the few 'white guys' in a Mexican restaurant. I know it is good, if those who know good from bad Mexican food, frequent the establishment. TDS is the place to go for breakfast burritos. A size of a small dog, or child, with egg, cheese and choice of meat, for less than $5...what more can you ask for? And their green avocado sauce is the bomb! I try to score as much as I can, but they do like to scrimp on handing it out. They also have a pepper bar, with the hot sauces and such to compliment your dish. Prices are good. Taco Del Sol attracted my attention with several colorful flags flapping in the wind in front of their parking lot. I was in the mood for some tacos anyway so I stopped in. Right away, I noticed their low prices: $1.25 for almost all tacos, except fish, tripe, and tongue tacos were $1.50. Nice! I ordered three kinds: carne asada, pastor, and fish. The carne asada was flavorful but just a tad bit chewy. The pastor had a "tingly" spiciness to it. Many pastor recipes contain pineapple which sort of "cuts" the spiciness and this didn't have it. This was one of the spicier pastors I've had. Fish had a light coating and was fried crispy. Everything was OK, but nothing special. . .however, with those low prices, I have no complaints. He brought me a breakfast burrito with bacon since I didn't go with him and it was delicious! Since that first visit we have gone back a few times and the burrito still lives up to the first time we had it. That's the only thing I've tried so I can't say much for the rest of the menu. I've been here several times recently, one as a customer, and another time to deliver an online order (pickup). Both times my orders go through the app, and I time it, so that I am not waiting too long at the restaurant. Unfortunately, both times they claim they never got the online order into their system, until I get there (20 minutes have passed), and then I have to wait another 20+ minutes for them to just prepare it. When speaking with the counter people, they have been rude and condescending. When I get the order finally, they mess it up, by giving me the wrong order. The short gal who I talk to is extremely rude and demands me to show my phone to "verify" the order. They staple the receipt to the bag and it clearly shows that they have messed up the order. Absolutely rude, atrocious behavior. Unless you know them well or speak Spanish, they will treat you very poorly. While I was waiting, there were many people going through a similar situation as me. I would avoid them as clearly they have enough business and could care less about anyone else. read more
