They're tacos. I'm tempted to end the review there, as it pretty much sums up everything about Taco Joint. But that's probably unfair. Taco Joint makes tacos. Their tacos are OK. Not bad, maybe approaching good. Certainly not great, and certainly not "authentic". But not every place can have "the best" of anything, and Taco Joint seems to understand this (which is a nice way of saying, they don't try very hard.) But what they get right is most everything else. The place is always clean; always well-staffed, and the wait is never too long. Prices are high-ish (around $3/taco), but their tacos are bigger than a typical street taco. They have ample seating, and allow you to extract as much of their salsas as you like (more on that in a moment). So yeah, the food is decently forgettable, but the experience is consistently good. I might not get excited about going to Taco Joint, but I wouldn't protest too much, either. And that hits their demographic square in the... stomach. The target for this place is not the person whose hobby is knowingly lecturing about Fuel City tacos to indifferent co-workers. The target is lunch-goers around Preston Center. The place is gussied up to carry a sheen of "authenticity," while working very hard to remain pleasant to the business casual crew. Their wall is adorned with a hand-painted mural of WIllie standing in front of a pronto-Taco Joint from a fictional past, yet as I sit in the restaurant, I'm listening to Styx and Pete Townshend. And that really gets down to what this place is and what one can expect. They have a jug of ranch for your tacos here. Really. Now, it's labeled as "Jalapeño Ranch," so you know it's super legit; but in reality, it's just ranch (nowhere near spicy). And hey man, if you want ranch on your tacos, who am I to stop you? And that's what Taco Joint is about. You put ranch on your tacos here while listening to Styx, pretending you're hanging with Willie in 1979 Austin. Then you go back to your cubicle. read more

First time here. Stopped in with friends while in the Dallas area based on a recommendation. Very welcoming place. Nice, clean and fast service. Well priced for the amount of food you get. I ordered the taco salad with chicken. Spicy ranch dressing on the side. Not really a spicy food fan, but this was just enough for some zing. Not enough for you to regret your choice. Really enjoyed my food. Good balance of salad components with a reasonable amount of chicken. Great experience. read more

My favorite breakfast tacos in Dallas. This was my first time going to the location off Preston and I was glad to see that the quality matches the their Peak Street location. My go to is always the bacon, egg and potato breakfast taco and two of those are more than enough to fill you up. There was a solid lunch line which tells me I'm not the only one that appreciates their tacos. They serve breakfast all day, which not many places do, so that's a big bonus too. Definitely recommend going here to get your breakfast taco fix. read more

I'm a new Texan so judge as you will. I think this place has WONDERFUL queso and chips. My son is obsessed. We have ordered a few different types of tacos and were pleased with all of them. Are they amazing tacos?! No, not really but they are good and you get what you pay for, which I love! I hate paying $10 for tacos that are sub par and hardly there. This place is amazing. It was nice and clean especially the restroom. We ordered enchilada, tortilla soup, brisket taco, and fajitas. The tortilla soup should've been all I ordered because it was so delicious and I was full with the serving. There was plenty of chicken, squash, zucchini and carrots. They even included potatoes not to mention the avocado and tortillas strips. It was amazing. The brisket is so tender and sweet. I asked about it and it is cooked with shiner bock who would've thought it would taste amazing and served on corn tortillas. The margarita on the rocks was perfect not strong just as I like it The manager Diana cane by to greet and she was so professional that we will be retiring again. And again. After repeated visits to this location, I gotta bump up my rating. The previous problems I experienced after they first opened are gone and this has become my go-to location. The customer service at this location is stellar and the food is scrumptious. Recently they changed one of my favorite menu items: the ground beef taco combo, from two tacos to three and raised the price $1. It's a good deal, and I have enough left over to snack on later. Mini-Pirate eats up The Disaster like he's just come off a hunger strike, and he's a fan of the breakfast tacos as well. This makes TJ kid and mom approved. This location is very kid and teen friendly and is frequented by people from the surrounding neighborhoods on the weekends. read more

I enjoy having Taco Joint in Preston Square. A different location, but the same great food. The service is equally present here. The only thing missing for me is the atmosphere from the Peek location, but I guess that's what makes the Peek location standout. But here, I love the outdoor seating; this helps giving the place it's own vibe. The food, the service, and the people watching from the patio are unbeatable. While there are thousands of taco "joints" in Dallas, Taco Joint is uniquely Tex-Mex, not Mexican street taco or authentic Mexican, it's Tex-Mex and it very good at it. The menu covers all the Tex-Mex favorites and they do inexpensively. You will find the same menu items from the other locations. All your favorite items are here along with the fresh sauces. I usually go with the Crispy Tacos and I wasn't disappointed at all. The fresh ingredients and flavorful seasoning were all there. And if you're really hungry, you have to try the "Big B" burrito. This thing is huge and stuffed full of ground beef (sirloin) and refried beans and the rest of the goodies. LOL. Probably hit this place once a week. Always consistent, great location, pleasant service. There's always a line and you're kinda eyeing the possibility of one of the tables in the center or one of the booths lining the record album covered walls while you are thinking about what to get. I suggest a queso to go with whatever you are having. Then after you order, you go over to the free condiment bar and pick some additional sauces to dip your chips in and make combination sauces with your queso. There is always a special of the day, so check out the listings on your left as you entering the building. I like the crispy beef tacos, plain and simple and not too greasy. My husband likes the quesadillas and enchiladas. Everything is pretty tight. We have also done some group events here with lots of couples around one big table they let us put together, so don't forget about it as an evening choice for casual groups. read more

Taco joint hit the spot on a early Saturday morning post-drinking escapades. My fiancé I went in and placed our order. Their menu is pretty big but once you narrow it down to breakfast tacos things get a little easier. Namely, what protein you want with your eggs. We both ordered two tacos each. I got sausage and egg (all tacos default come with cheese) and chorizo and egg. Fiance got potato and egg tacos. They offer three different salsas as the salsa station (that's a win for taco cabana whose salsas kill). All three sauces were solid. Essentially, red, green (tomatillo) and jalapeno ranch (quite tasty). Service was self order and the tacos were made quickly. While individual tacos wont fill you up two (three if you are starving) will do the trick. So Taco Joint does what it needs to. Quick cheap tacos. read more

This location has been host to several restaurants that have quickly come and gone. Now that Taco Joint is here, I'm pretty sure they are here to stay. Everyone in the area is tired of Chipotle and the one thing that makes us get into our cars to drive away from our workplace, is tacos. Rusty and Torchy's are great, but a little bit of a hike from this location. We're all very relieved to have a popular taco spot in our neighborhood now. The place was packed by 12 so we were glad that we got there early. Try The Disaster which is basically a loaded version of queso with guac and beef added. The chips are super thin and delicious...they could only be better if they were warm. You get a HUGE basket of chips with any of the appetizer (salsa, queso, guac, disaster, etc) orders so be prepared to share. As for the tacos, the table tried a wide variety and mostly everyone was happy. The brisket taco got one "yay" and one "meh" from the table so the jury is still out there. The beef and chicken tacos were satisfactory to everyone and they are of a decent size so you don't need more than 2 to end your hunger. The place currently smells a bit strange inside, it's brand new so I'm sure they are working out the kinks still. Wall is covered with Willie Nelson albums and artwork. There are condiments up front like jalapeno ranch and salsa. They really need to ditch their "order ready" buzzers. Those are incredibly annoying. They beep and buzz and cause such a disturbance to everyone around them. We will be back. read more

Bout time we got Taco Joint in the area, it's only a couple blocks from my job so I'm pretty happy. First time I went was in East Dallas off peak street and it was quite busy. Looks like this place will attract just as much business. I only wish the flour tortillas were homemade, but my favorite are the crispy beef tacos. The queso is awesome! Tacos are around $3 per item. I ordered the spicy grilled chicken and the grilled fish. I was very disappointed in the sloppy presentation of both tacos. The spicy habanero sauce was delicious but that was the only thing memorable about this place. My grilled fish was covered in an excessive amount of lettuce which was the only garnishing on the taco. Once I removed all the lettuce there was nothing else left so I was just basically eating fish in a flour taco. Disappointed, will likely not come back. read more

Last time I was in Dallas I stopped at this Taco Joint before I headed to Love Field to catch my flight. It was during lunch and it took a minute to find a parking spot but lines inside weren't bad at all and service was quick and friendly. I ordered the spicy chicken taco and the brisket taco. Both were really good but the spicy chicken was my favorite out of the two. The spicy ranch and other sauces definitely add to the fantastic flavor. I went there at 8:00 AM on a Sunday so there were no lines and the restaurant was very clean. Just went here to get a to- go order and decided to get a couple of sauces to go. I pressed down on the dispenser for the red sauce and it just exploded on me! All over my face, hair, WHITE sweater and purse!! I did not press done that hard, just as you would normally do. Bad part is that I have to go back to work like this! What really makes me mad is that when I told the girl behind the counter what happened, she acted like she didn't even care! She never even said sorry! I could not find it and he was like I can't help you. So when I finally found it I was like oh you sound like the guy from the phone. Do you know he didn't offer an apology or no welcome. This place is great! I'm shocked to see a few not so great reviews. I've worked in Preston center for years and this is the first place that's got me to leave the office for lunch. They are quick with your food, the wait staff is super sweet and always the same and the food is awesome! I've tried a BUNCH of different stuff on the menu and everything has left me doing a yummy happy dance. The disaster queso dip is amazing and you should just go ahead and get it with every meal just so you have it to dip whatever taco you get in it! It's big so plan on sharing with someone. Also their burritos are massive! So just one will fill you up where as the tacos you can get two ;) Their breakfast is amazing too and totally worth getting. Oh and the side bar that has all the dips and salsa has a jalapeño ranch that is TO DIE FOR! Wish they sold bottles of it cause I would buy some to have a my home! read more

The overall experience was fine. The staff were friendly. The location is clean (even though this location has had at least 2-3 restaurants a year in the past 2 years.) I just don't know about Taco Joint in general. I went in with all these high expectations... but every time I eat at one, I am just so underwhelmed by the food. Honestly, much of the ingredients seem either very ordinary, if not completely store bought. If you are going to do cheap taco fair, at least give it some personality. Dallas has a million mexican restaurants, and about a thousand Taco places, some are great. Taco Joint falls in the unfortunate list with Rusty taco where everything is just kind of mediocre and gentrified to accommodate for the imaginationlessness of white suburban culture. Nothing is remotely challenging or unique to the palette. This went all "Zoe's Kitchen" on everyone. That is not a compliment at all. If you are into that, I guess this place is serviceable enough. So glad they opened a Taco Joint here. Always loved taco joint and this location has delivered everything I love to my neighborhood. At this location I have had various breakfast tacos, cheese enchiladas and crispy beef Tacos. My wife has had the crispy chicken tacos. All have been perfect and with way less driving involved. We needed a quick bite to eat and tried this place out as some of the other places to eat around here a bit more fancy and slow. I tried the brisket and the chicken fajita tacos. I have not been to other taco joints, so this is my first time to visit. There is such an abundance of taco places in DFW, this one is very forgettable. I came in for lunch on a Saturday afternoon, the menu extensive, the local beers on tap, clean dining area, patio seating... All sounded great. That's where this review takes a turn, the ordering process was slow to say the least. The wait for two tacos and a salad seemed like they must be hand sculpting them in the back. The food was average at best, the fish taco, not fresh. At least fish should not smell fishy! We tried to return it, only took about 15 to get the new order to us. Needless to say, I won't be coming back. There are plenty of other joints that have fresh tacos and excellent service. read more

I have been to this location of Taco Joint twice so far and once to the location in Richardson. The service was great in both places. The food was always prepared in a timely manner. In all three instances I had the grilled fish two taco combo. It came with two grilled fish soft tacos, rice and beans, and a drink. First off, I must say the flavor of the food at this location was way better than the one located in Richardson. The rice and beans at both locations were the stars of the meal; very flavorful and seasoned the way I like it. The portion sizes are appropriate for the cost. As for the taco itself, I personally thought the fish could be seasoned better on all 3 occasions that I tried it, but it wasn't all bad when combined with the different sauces they have available. I went to this location on a friday night and there were lots of kids; it seemed to be a very family-oriented establishment (which I liked a lot). So, overall if you're looking for a nice place to take your kids for a meal, this place has a lot of things on the menu for kids to try. The service is good and the ambience is nice. The food is just ok in my opinion; then again, my review is based on the grilled fish taco combo that I had. read more
