DINNER SPECIALS!! $10.45 for either a carne asada steak, two halibut tacos with rice and beans. They have a couple of other dinner specials but I don't remember what they are. Busy, loud, fun on a Friday night. I had the halibut tacos because fish is brain food and my brain needs feeding. Tasty sauce on the tacos with cabbage and guac. Came with a soup or salad and with the rice and beans I was plenty satisfied. Been eating here for few years now and I am always happy with the food. Sometimes the parking is a bit nuts but sometimes it's easier to park on the street and walk a little. read more

This is a locals business that quality has gone downhill. The happy hour Baja fish tacos are frozen and not fresh. Tasted awful. Took off breading and there was barely a sliver of snapper inside of breading. Plus snapper was hard and not soft even if fried. Total rip-off. The better Taco Surf is in Sunset Beach. Decided to try a different Mexican spot than the usual and probably won't ever stray away from my tried and trues. Food was decent but I have no idea what is going on with the staff 1. Was greeted by the hostess who took our names and then started about two or three times to tell us how long the wait would be but each time got distracted by other people around her and the most we ever got was "uh" so we just sat down to wait after realizing the "uh" was all we were going to get 2. Get seated after not long a wait and got drink and food order in quickly but sadly for us that is the height of the good service experience. One order was supposed to be carne asada, got carnitas. Dealt with it because at the end of the day while it wasn't what was ordered it was fine and could be dealt with. 3. When she dropped the check we asked if we pay her or up front, she said either and then we gave her the card and assumed she went to charge it. After realizing it's been a hot minute since she took it I look around for her to see that she is sitting at the end of the bar eating... No booze, so wine based margaritas, okay but slightly over priced food, pretty cool atmosphere, acceptable service... I really want to like this place more than I do. Taco Surf has a been mine and my husbands go to restaurant for the past 11 years. Hands down the best chips and salsa around!!! Chips are warm and the salsa fresh! Forget taco Tuesday, they have happy hour Monday thru Friday starting at 2 and the chicken/steak tacos with green salsa are the best! I'm a stickler for a laid back feel when I eat out and this place delivers without compromising service. Only complaint would be parking- it's located across from a high school and on the busiest street in Los Al - Depending on the time you go there could be zero parking available in the lot so you'll need to find street parking and walk- this typically happens around 12 on the weekends and 6pm during the week- Even with a full lot you likely only wait 5 minutes to be seated if that read more

I really wanted to give this place 3 stars but their shrimp Ensenada tacos are too good for 3 stars. Service at this location is usually slow and pretty bad. The chips and salsa are amazing, I could probably go for two baskets alone! But the food is always consistent and delicious. On the bad side, my last shrimp taco only had 3 small shrimp per taco. This is not the best Mexican food I've ever had but it is good. Their shredded beef flautas are my favorite and I love their salsa. The service is always wonderful and it's noisy enough that my 2 year old and my baby fit right in. Which is great for us. My husband loves their happy hour tacos and the salsa as well. It's actually the closest Mexican restaurant to me but not my "go to" place. We periodically frequent but not on a regular basis. Not a huge fan of the deco which just seems dated. The food is good and my wife really likes the shrimp tacos. read more

Never been here before. Stopped in today to try their food. Over priced tacos if you ask me. Had the NACHO GRANDE, which were really good. I was going to order the wings for appetizers, but they told me it was a 15min wait. Don't know why. Restaurant was bug and plenty of sitting. Food was ok, not the best I've had. For those prices I would have expected bigger portions. In the future I'll go to the taquero on the street corners. I do recommend for happy. I think gravity is different on Taco Surf grounds. You have to have a beer in one hand to be in balance. And it has to be a bottle. And there has to be taco's involved. Everything else can be a blur. Or at least, I remember everything as a blur. But the tacos were tasty. read more

I was asked by Yelp to provide more details of why I gave this restaurant one star. Supposedly, "the Yelp community" did not agree with my review. I believe that Taco Surf pays Yelp for advertising; and had their marketing team go into overdrive to get my negative review squashed. In my opinion, this restaurant location is not for families, or anyone who is looking for a decent environment to enjoy their dinner. I stand by this opinion, because not only did I have an extremely negative experience, but when I questioned others who have visited this establishment, some of them had a similar experience. Therefore, my experience was not a one-off, doesn't-happen-all-the-time event. My friend and I were seated at the bar. The bartender took care of us right away. The drinks came quickly, as did the food. Both were adequate; not spectacular, but OK. We knew what to expect, for we have frequented 3 other Taco Surf locations, and had no issues. At the Los Al location, we were surprised at some of the patrons of the bar who were "allowed" to LOUDLY use A LOT of profanity. The f-bomb was every other word. When the bartenders did nothing to stop the profanity, we figured out that the low-class patrons were regulars. These regulars were over-served and drunk. We nicely asked the drunks to curb the profanity; we also informed the manager of our unpleasant experience. We asked him to not cause us a problem. He could deal with them after we left. But, instead, he asked them to curb their language. (After he walked away, the drunks told him to "f off.") Then, the bartender asked them to curb their language. (After she walked away, the drunks told her to "f-off" too.) Then, having figured out it was us who mentioned it to the manager, they told us to "f off." All of this within ear shot of other patrons and families with young children. We yelled for the drunks to leave and for the manager to call the police. The manager did not kick them out, nor did he call the police. The manager and bartender spoke to the drunks in Spanish, so we are unsure of what was communicated. We had other patrons offer to pay our bill, but we refused to pay for the incredibly, horrible experience. We notified local police and the Alcoholic Beverage Commission of the over-serving. We will never visit this location again. We have no desire to hear profanity or dine with drunks. As with any Yelp review, this is our opinion only. In fact, the next time we visit a different location, I'll be happy to post what a great experience we had if we indeed do! read more

Taco Surf is part of a small local chain of restaurants. It is a fun family place to visit but I can not say that any of the food can be rated above average. They serve up a very average blend of Mexican dishes which will satisfy you and not put a big dent in the wallet but if you are a fan of good Mexican food this might not be the place for you... read more

This is the worst Taco Surf out of all of them. Its as if the food is supplied by a different company and prepared by someone who has had zero training alongside the better locations at 2nd st and Sunset Beach. Even the vibe in the restaurant is lacking vs the other locations. It was not a busy time last night around 6pm just as happy hour ended but the server rushed us like there was a waiting list to sit down despite over half the seats being empty. The shrimp taco had three shrimps and no they are not giant either and a mix of veggies oversauced causing for a soggy taco experience. Enchilada was good, but then again Ive never encountered a bad one yet anywhere seeing as its not difficult to bang a few of those out blindfolded. For happy hr and beers coupled with chips and salsa it might be worth a visit however if you plan on taking your family for a meal or you simply want to enjoy your meal and not feel you have just ate prison food there is a much better choice down the road at Super Mex. read more

I am rating this place purely on their service. I had to pick up a to go order for my office and one of my coworkers had called the order into the wrong location. I guess it's a common problem they have... people call the Seal Beach location but go to the the Los Alamitos location for pick up. The waitress knew exactly what happened and offered to cancel the order at the other restaurant and take my order again. They had it ready really fast and even split the bill to make it easier for me to get the proper change. EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE! I appreciate their hard work. read more

First time there- The service was very poor. The female staff were more interested in talking with each other. Our waitress seemed disappointed that we did not order alcoholic drinks. The fish quesadilla was good, but my steak fajitas were the worst I have ever had- the meat was dry and over cooked to the point of being hard and burned in places. Lots of refried beans served but little in the way of rice or veggies. The veggies were also overcooked. The waitress was pretty scarce and so between the amount of time to get the meals and that, I just left it uneaten. No one seemed interested in making it right. After going to a taping of X Factor and being in a studio all day....We were starving, I wanted Mexican Food and LA is to chaotic so we headed back to OC and I told my cousin to take me to the place she is always talking about. So we get there it was pretty late by then about 9pm there were a few people in there. Waiter came and took us to our seat and got us our drinks right away. I looked through the menu and was debating between a combo meal (Because I love my beans and rice) or some Tostada that claims its world famous.....The chips and salsa came and i'm not sure if it was because I was SO HUNGRY but that salsa was amazing. Even the Pepsi tasted great. Then came the meal.....First bite of rice and beans good....Then a bite of the Enchilada EWWW so wrong. Tasted like a frozen enchilada from one of those TV dinners and unfortunately the tamale wasn't that great either. So the meal was pretty gross and then my bill came...14 dollars and some change for a plate of crap! Should have gone to El Torito its WAY better and cheaper. I probably won't be going back.
