I've been coming to Taco Treat since the 1970s, starting at the South Pasadena location. After that location closed, I began visiting the Arcadia location, and it's still just as good as I remember. Some people call these chimichangas, but to me they'll always be Taco Treat burritos. Like everything else, prices have gone up over the years, but the flavor has remained the same. The perfect classic crunchy taco. Sooo fresh and yummy. Definitely hits the spot when you're craving a classic crunchy taco! We also tried the bean and cheese burrito which is what they're super popular for because it's fried. It was very good, but a little too heavy for me. My belly was not happy afterwards. Lol. I have been eating here as far back as I can remember, every night after a racing event at the original Irwindale Racetrack, we would meet to hang out and eat great food. My favorites are the Bean and Cheese burrito and tacos, they make great chile (a must have on a cold night) and if you want to make your own tacos at home they sell fried fresh daily taco shells by the half and full dozen. One of the best bean burritos around. They are deep fried so of course that makes it even better. It's full of cheese so it's best eaten warm when the cheese is nice and gooey. We have also ordered the hamburger combo, tostada salad as well as onion rings. The onion rings were always a little too salty for me. The hamburger tasted good but the tostado for us was just ok. It took 32 minutes for a burger and chili fries. However they got the order wrong and gave my cheese fries so I had to ask for chili and it was all beans! I watched them cooking through the window and they were using a soda cup to dump the ground beef into the container, not a spoon but a paper cup! The staff doesn't wear gloves they touch money then go and touch food. My boyfriend and I have both been sick since we ate the food. Won't go back. This is probably one of the few places in my life that I drove by and thought I'm turning around and trying it. I'm so so so glad I did. I was just on Live Oak for the sole purpose of going to the 605 freeway. I saw that old school sign and took that as a sign to at least check it out without knowing what to expect. It's a small ish menu of burgers and Mexican (More like American Mexican) food. It's the epitome of a mom and pop type place in the best way. No frills no flashy signs and decor. Just food, drink, and benches outside. And also cash only. The people working there are friendly. On to the food. Being that I'm a vegetarian with the occasional moments of eating fish, I saw that my options were limited. My eyes were glued on the "Bean and cheese" written on the window and figured it must be good to be advertised in such big letters. I ordered 2 and seriously, one of the greatest things ever! No where does it say that it's a deep fried burrito but that adds to how delicious it is. It's a huge deep fried burrito that's full of beans and cheese. Despite being fried it doesn't feel greasy. It comes out piping hot, like super hot to the point of having to be careful. The cheese pull on this thing is crazy even when you get near the bottom. I still remember burning my mouth the first time. The addition that puts the burrito over the top is their "Hot Sauce." Personally I don't find any spice in it but it's very flavorful. Don't know what's it it but there's definitely a lot going on there. It helps to cut down the richness of the deep fried burrito making this perfect combination that I can keep eating. I've tried the tostada that's also on the window but honestly it's lacking seasoning and my go to will always be that burrito. It's a meal for a little $4. The location is right on Liveoak and is easy to find. The food reminds me of when I was growing up and deep-fried foods were all the craze. Well in these times, Deep-fried is not as popular in my eyes and to me, something from another era. However, the food is tasty and a super soft burrito skin is offered to those who really don't want all the grease. Finally, after a few years I had both time and cash, so I stopped by. I never looked at the reviews of this place, i was just curious because there's always a line. I thought it was an authentic mexican joint that had cheap bean and cheese burritos, so when I went to order, I was expecting the typical simple bean and cheese burrito but what I got was a LONG but skinny DEEP FRIED THING! I ain't mad about it, but just know that's what you're getting if you're getting the burrito. My first time I got a hamburger combo and the bean and cheese burrito. The hamburger is run of the mill- it's fine. it does it's job and the fries do too. BUT THE BEAN AND CHEESE BURRITO! I was very skeptical, but it was GOOD. The cheese-pull was great. The bean flavor was good, and it was fairly cheap. You get full from one even though it's small. Since it's deep fried, you'll feel full faster. I actually went the next day to get another one, and got the bean and cheese burrito and the beef burrito. I actually thought I ordered beef and cheese, but it was just beef. Unfortunately, I was not one of those lucky children and had my very first Taco Treat experience yesterday night, but it was absolutely amazing and their burritos now live rent-free in my mind as a delicious core memory. Service was nice and efficient, and we received our food after a 10-minute wait. Cash only establishment, so remember to bring some dollar bills. They have two tables with benches on the side if you want to eat there, and they're covered with fried tortilla bits and hot sauce stains, a lingering reminder of the many burritos that have been eaten there. The bean and cheese burritos were fried to perfection--the flour tortilla on the outside develops a light shatteringly crisp shell that holds the hot and creamy refried beans and oozy cheese inside. It pairs well with their "hot sauce," which is definitely not spicy at all but has a nice acidity that adds to the mild flavor of the burrito. The fries were wonderfully crunchy and well-salted, and we managed to finish them all without any ketchup (forgot to ask for some) because they were really good. There are not a lot of these hard shell ground meat tacos in the area, only a couple, and the tacos blow Taco Bell out of the water. No comparison. The taco sauce is good too. The star are the fried burritos. I just get bean and cheese, but don't underestimate how good the beans are. So tasty. Try it, you won't be sorry. Only thing is , hardly no cheese at all. And i thought they used yellow chedder cheese , but it's the white cheese. I've been going there for over 45 years. My fave is the super burrito and I liberally apply their salsa provided in small cups (can't get enough of that salsa) in limited quantities. I'm hoping they will sell that salsa in jugs someday or at least release the recipe! read more
