    Breakfast Taco

I never would've imagined gas station tacos being so flavorful and fresh. I love they use whole eggs not pooled eggs. The meat is juicy and they give you a hardy portion for $3 per taco great deal. The staff is friendly and the kitchen is clean. They are sanitary; I absolutely recommend.

Once you get past the fact you're dining inside a filling station's convenience store, Taco Urbano might grow on you. The burrito pescado frito (fried fish) was filling and very tasty. The prices here are reasonable. Avoid the chips and salsa--too much food if you're having a burrito, and the chips are a little greasier than I'd prefer.

Please don't let the fact that you can find Urban Counter in a gas station deter you from experiencing the food here. Probably one of the most friendly and excited people greeted us, and when he found out we were visiting from Atlanta, he hooked us up with some good eats. Located inside of the Pride gas station off of S. Wabash street, man this is definitely a nice little hidden gem! Here's what we got! Italian beef ($6.49) Blue cheese Burger ($6.99) Classic Chicago dog ($2.99) Hand cut fries ($2.19) Sodas x 2 (on the house) So here's the good: The classic Chicago dog was great! We devoured this thing with it's soft poppy seed bun, and all the traditional fixings (sweet relish, onion, tomato, pickle spear, sport peppers and mustard). Best thing we tried here. The Blue cheese burger, complete with nice chunks of blue cheese was a good burger. Not a good "from the gas station" burger...but a good burger! 8 oz of a steak burger on a brioche bun made these bites kinda awesome. One of the things we both agreed on was while the Italian beef sandwich had very tender strips of beef on soft bread, man was it salty. We couldn't tell if it was from the cheese or the sauce, but sadly this missed the mark for us. French fries really were just french fries for us, not much in terms of being special. Interior seating is available at Urban Counter, so you don't have to get your food and go. Restrooms are shared with the gas station but they are clean. Again, customer service was outstanding and I loved their energy. Happy staff, quality food and reasonable prices hidden in plain sight. If you live here or are just passing through, at least stop in and say hi. Had a great time here!

    Chicken Caesar Salad

I had a craving for a chicken caesar salad the other day so I stopped by Urban Counter on the way home. Initially, I didn't know that the restaurant was inside the BP gas station so I was a bit surprised. Admittedly, it was a slight turn off at first given the area but that feeling quickly dissipated upon entry. I used to live in Maryland and the best chicken in the state comes from Royal Farms which is located inside countless local gas stations. While living there I learned not to be so quick to judge food by the location of the restaurant. Anyway, I was immediately impressed with the restaurants theme and decor. The space was clean, modern and fit seamlessly into the (BP) convenience store. There weren't any customers at the counter so i was able to walk right up and place my order. The chicken caesar salad cost nearly $9 which is average given the (South Loop) location. The salad was fairly large, freshly prepared and actually pretty good. I didn't really care for the taste of the caesar dressing but other than that I was throughly impressed. I wouldn't order the salad again since I didn't like the dressing but I would stop by Urban Counter again to try something else. The service was pretty decent too as the guy who served me was pleasant and served me with a smile. UPDATE: I just had a burger and fries from UC. It was WAY too greasy. The grease literally soaked through the packaging. The food was decent (nothing great) but I'll never eat a burger form there again. I didn't find it all that flavorful and the patty was burnt. Well done means just not... not burnt.

This was the first time I've ever saw a fully functional restaurant inside of a gas station convenience store. You would think the quality of the food would be subpar. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of taste in the food. The restaurant itself reminds me of an old school diner where you can see the cooks making the food and the style of seating. The tables, floors and counters were all clean and neatly put together. The only downside to this place is the bathroom situation. They share restrooms with the convenience store and the woman's room was out of order when I came. I ordered the signature blue cheese burger and it was heavenly! Made and cooked to order, it melted in my mouth with flavor. The fries were also made to order and were nice and crisp. I also got a strawberry milk shake which tasted great (although it wasn't made with real strawberries). My fiancée order some grilled chicken sliders and they were excellent. I will def be coming back here again!

Grilled chicken sandwich is tasty, same price & better at Panera and Cafe cito though The burgers & rest are priced nice. Worth a try.

Small place attached to the am/pm gas station on Roosevelt, I almost couldn't find it actually. It's a good place to get some quality food before heading out on the road, or better than usual gas station food that is. I got the fried chicken sandwich, which was solid, with fries and a drink, all for $9 which wasnt bad. I wouldn't be opposed to stopping there again

My turkey club with no turkey and one half no bacon.

I would give a half of a star if I could. I'm extremely disappointed with this place. I ordered a simple turkey club sandwich today through Uber Eats and my sandwich was delivered without turkey. The best they could do for me is put the money back on my card in 3-5 days. I'm ordering food at work during my lunch so I'm stuck with nothing to eat and no money to reorder my lunch from another place that's capable of at least adding the most important ingredient. I will never order from this place again. And if your smart consumers you won't either.

Ok So I've been here like 5 times.. Let me start with their burgers..soo good. Made to order. Their fries are so fresh and good. I know people like burger point. I do too. But for like $8. You get a 1/2 pound burger fries and drink. Oh i know I know It's in a gas station. Get over it. The food is good. You gotta try this place. I'm going in soon for a breakfast sandwich. I'll send you a picture soon.. Try it.. It's good.. Update 5.5.16 Tried Italian beef sandwich. It was ok. 6 out of 10

    Not bad.

If you're feeling peckish and just want a cheap snack I would definitely recommend getting the mini burger and the small tater tots. I wouldn't spend anything more than that.

This place has REALLY GOOD FOOD. And it's all so fresh... which is shocking for a gas station. But, why have to settle for over processed food, just because you're on the road? The prices are great too. The next time you walk past this locatio. To go to the neighboring DD or Jewel to get some over processed product, I'd recommend giving this place a try.

Great burgers!!! Too bad it's inside a gas station. Needs it's own building to truly thrive.

Starting with margaritas (because obviously ‍), queso and chips that were dangerously good, and the chicken empanadas that came out perfectly crispy with so much flavor. We kept looking at each other after every bite like "okay wait... THIS is the best thing here" and then another plate would arrive and prove us wrong again The carnitas fried rice??? I genuinely cannot stop thinking about it. So savory, flavorful, comforting, and packed with crispy carnitas on top with the eggs and pickled onions... literally unreal. And then the skirt steak tacos absolutely stole the show. The steak was cooked perfectly, packed with flavor, and paired so perfectly with all the toppings and sauces. Every single bite tasted fresh and homemade in the best way possible. And can we talk about the ambience for a second because WOW. The music, the energy, the vibe inside, everyone celebrating, the drinks flowing -- it felt like the perfect Cinco de Mayo dinner spot. The service was also AMAZING from start to finish and made the entire experience even better. One of those dinners where you leave already talking about when you're coming back If you're looking for the place to celebrate Cinco de Mayo, date night, tacos & margaritas, or honestly just an incredible dinner in general... this is IT

When we tried them we realized she accidentally gave us each other's. No big deal but it happened again with the food when a different server brought it out. We ordered chilaquiles; one with chicken and one with carnitas. It was not bad but way spicier than anticipated, and we like spicy food. Service was also not great. She stopped once to take our order and once to bring the drinks. That's it. We did not get checked on until we were already almost done with our food. Cute patio. Inside seating wasn't busy at all.

Appetizers were quac and chips, and shrimp ceviche. The guac was really good, but the ceviche was the star. Served on a bed of cucumbers, it was visually beautiful, and the flavor was fresh and complex. There was also a LOT of it. We ended up taking some home. Entrees were steak and shrimp for me, and Tampiquena for my friend. In both dishes, the steak was done to perfection. The sauce that came with my shrimp was spicy and deep--lots of flavor layers there. Both of us took home portions of our meals because there was a lot of food on the plates. Finally, the service--the servers are attentive without hovering. If we needed something, they were there, but never intrusive. It is hard to believe this is a little neighborhood spot, given the service and the quality of the food. It was not too busy tonight--we ate early--but I recommend reservations. It is very popular with the neighborhood. Bottom line, we each had 2 margaritas, appetizers, and entrees, and our bills with tip were around $105.00 each--totally worth it! Try this little gem--you won't regret it.

Most of the reviews recommended the enchiladas and we ordered a variety of them. The Enchiladas Poblanos stuffed with chicken and cheese. The poblano sauce was rich and smoky. We also had the Enchiladas Morita. They were filled with shrimp and cheese. It was so flavorful and the morita chile added so much flavor. Each dish was served with a side jicama salad. Their special was a shrimp pasta with lobster. It came with full lobster tail. The sauce was creamy and flavorful. It is also BYOB, which is a nice option. Service was excellent, friendly offered recommendations. This is probably one of my favorite Mexican restaurants and highly recommend.

It was a hot, humid day, but apparently it was warmer inside than on their sidewalk seating, so we dined outside. My wife ordered the Vegetarian Torta ($13.75) and I chose the Shrimp Torta ($14.50). Only real negatives were that they did not offer any draft beer options and the Chips y Salsa ($3.75) had a meager quantity of chips to eat their tasty and generous tomatillo and 3-chile salsa options. Would actually go 4.5 stars based on those 2 factors, but gave the benefit of the extra half star due to how good our service was and the excellent flavor of the veggie sandwich.
