This truck hosts very classic LA street tacos, good quality meats and good service. I ordered buche, cabeza, asada, and pastor tacos, 1 of each. I enjoyed every single one, however they're really small! Next time order 8 I guess haha. Just keep that in mind, they're small but pack a punch. It was a drizzly evening after dance practice the other day and we were hungry - but not for the usual drive thru fast food. On recommendation and with plans to eat n' chill we came here. Apparently this food truck has been here for 20+ years - maybe longer and it has a following, as evidenced by the crowded lines, full parking lot, and full tables. That said, don't let this deter you - service is quick and the food is GOOOOOD! I ordered a combined total of 14 tacos with all the fixings - a generous topping of cilantro, onions, a few slices of pepino and limes, and fresh salsa. The owners make additional condiments available: green salsa, red salsa, salt packets, and pickled veggies at the counter. If you know to do so, you can get cebollitas and a chili on the side as well. Be warned the tacos are old school small - no bigger than the palm of your hand. Truly I was satisfied with the first three I ate, but I got two more because the flavors were so good. Drinks are limited to aguas frescas. I had agua de Jamaica - super good! Of course the true barometer of this place was my kids - between the two of them they ate 5 tacos and wanted more, but....portion control. These guys are not only super nice, but they marinate and cook the meat perfectly and pack the taco with meat! The only con can be parking but that's what you expect when you go to LA. When you're in Los Angeles and you're on the hunt for some of the best Mexican food, I highly recommend going where the locals go and this in East LA! And over the past few decades, I have been one to find some of the best food from the mobile trucks. This takes me to the Boyle Heights neighborhood where I had the opportunity in trying out "Tacos El Pecas". Located at the corner of S. Soto St./7th St. and just off of the 5 freeway, this place has been feeding hungry people for the past few decades. I arrived here during the night of Friday 7/26/2024 at around 9:30pm. Parking can be a bit of a challenge as there are very limited spots right near the truck. I also wanted to add that you are right next to a self-serve car wash so ideally, you can wash your vehicle before or after getting your food. The truck itself is painted a bright sky blue complete with a mural of the Virgin Mary, a church, the name of the business, and of course a menu of everything the offer. You can also follow them on Facebook and Instagram to keep up with any updates. Since I came here specifically for tacos, I ended up ordering (2) Carne Asada tacos and (2) Pastor tacos. I completed my order with an iced cold Horchata drink. Total price for everything was a shockingly low $9 for everything (as of mid-2024). So if you're on a very tight budget and wish to get filled up for a very low price, this is the place to come. Keep in mind that this is a cash-only business. Service was quick as it only took them about 5 minutes to make my tacos. And if you wish eating your food there, there is also a shareable bench directly to the right of the truck. Now comes the taste test... One bite of the Pastor and I was blown away with the flavor, seasonings, and spices that are presented. The Carne Asada (although not as flavorful as the Pastor) were delicious and packed with meat. These tacos included the standard onions, cilantro, lime and sliced radishes but also sliced cucumbers. I opted for both red and green salsas to make every single bite come to life. The next time I visit this place, I want to try more of their meats and even opt for a burrito and quesadilla. There are dozens upon dozens of Mexican food trucks in LA and hundreds of Mexican restaurants in LA. And narrowing down just a few good places can be more difficult than you might think. But I will say that "Tacos El Pecas" is good, damn good if you're on the hunt for that no-frills cheap and delicious Mexican food that you can enjoy on a budget. My rating, a unanimous five stars. Heard lots of good thing about Tacos El Pecas, but not all were true unfortunately. The service part is true, in the sense that all the staff is really nice and welcoming. The food comes out fairly fast, so even when you're starving, you won't have to wait too long for your food to be ready. As for the food, I tried tacos of almost all of their meats: asada, pastor, suadero, and lengua. Out of these, the pastor and lengua were my favorite. I have to say that their pastor is not one of the best I've had, but I'd recommend going with this if you're trying out Tacos El Pecas for the first time. The seasoning was not up to par with my favorites'. I really liked their lengua. It was nicely chewy and meaty. I'm not the biggest fan of carne asada when ordering tacos, and this spot did not change my mind about it. Their suadero was the most disappointing about my visit unfortunately. It was a bit dry, and the meat did not even look like the suadero I'm used to. I wouldn't be surprised if they made a mistake on the type of meat. Their tacos are $1.50 and are pretty small as other reviews mention. They do have a salsa bar, and one of the biggest highlights is that they also give you grilled onions and jalapeño upon request. All taco and/or burrito orders come with complimentary roasted onion and jalapeños. The taco truck is sharing territory with a self-serve car wash station with few available parking spots. Meat options: Asada (grilled steak), pastor (grilled pork), cabeza (beef cheek), suadero (beef brisket), chorizo (pork sausage), lengua (beef tongue), tripa (cow intestines). *** Carne Asada & Al Pastor Tacos ($1.50 each): I do think tacos were somewhat mediocre (probably due to no avocado & no pineapple for al pastor taco) comparing with other taco trucks like Leo's Tacos Truck & portion was somewhat small. I tried a 3rd time and took my Family there because I wanted to see if it was me that was being a little picky. NO Sir I was not! Dude tried to talk down to me. Not only that my Older son saw the low quality taste and meat but the tacos are tiny the horchata had a bad taste. My whole Family moved away from that lunch truck disappointed. Just plain and simple you like bad food that's the place to hit. Want to have dinner for 5 dollars? This is the place to be! Tacos are very small but tasty. Each taco is $1.00 and you should order about 5-6 tacos to get full or somewhat full. The line to order tacos Friday-Sunday could be pretty long BUT these taqueros are quick, they will have your order ready in 5 mins. You are allowed to park at the car wash parking lot and usually a security is guiding you on where to park and taking care of the vehicles. They only have aguas frescas, pineapple and horchata. Okay, this was the taco spot a few years back. But I feel that they have fallen a bit in terms of quality. (Still come here on occasion) Usually, the tacos are always served messy especially when they are ordered to-go and wrapped in aluminum foil but I'm guessing to-go food everywhere else will never be served as if you are dining in. The carne asada always seems to have a lot of chunky fat pieces that kinda ruin the taco and so far that's the only issue I've had with them, just sucks I always gotta pick at my taco or spit something out while I'm trying to enjoy. Overall, they still get 5 stars because the customer service is always great. They guy taking orders and the other giving out the orders seem to be on top of it, not to mention the taqueros actually making the food. I decided to hit three of these highly reviewed spots in a single night and line them up in a heads up review. Tacos El Pecas v. Tacos Los Gueros v. Los Originales Tacos Arabes de Puebla Star 1: How were the service and atmosphere? El Pecas and Los Gueros are pretty similar in that they're traditional trucks with some fixings set out, and while Tacos Arabes stood out in that it was clear that an entire family was running the show, everyone was just about equal here. Some people get a bit spooked by this part of town at night, and if that's the case I'd recommend Tacos El Pecas. You've got slightly different offerings and price points across these three taco spots. El Pecas offers mini tacos for $1.00 each, which is nice if you want some variety. This is the place to get authentic mexican tacos at a ridiculous low price. The place is located in the corner of a carwash and the lines can get long at times but #1 it's worth the wait & #2 it goes by fast. The tacos go about .60¢ each they are small so I would say get about 5 tacos plus a drink (horchata) and you'll be good. They have a wide selection of tacos or burritos with 7 meats that consist of: Asada, adobada, suadero, tripa, cabeza, lengua and chorizo. What's great about this place besides the food is the price and the amount of meat they put in the tacos, they are not skimpy w/ the meat. Orders come w/ a side of Rabanos, pepino (radish & cucumber) and some juicy grilled onions! Asada: these are good although not my personal favorite out of all of them. Don't get me wrong they are tasty so I always end up grabbing at least one Cuz hey why not? Cabeza: al vapor is the way to go and these guys know how to cook it. They melt in your mouth and are super yummy. Love their cabeza tacos. One of my favorites. Lengua: yes, thank you for making these al vapor. They have the perfect consistency. Delicioso. My other favorite as well. Chorizo: ok, not my favorite the meat was a bit mushy but well seasoned. They are a ok. Adobada: well seasoned, these are so good. Meat is juicy and the marinade is legit. My other favorite. Tripa: it's good, but I would suggest you let them know you want them a little bit crispier to add that extra crunch to the soft texture. Trust me. Personal favorites: al pastor, cabeza & lengua but again all of them are delicious! Parking can get a little out of hand but you can park around the corner and walk a very short distance to the truck. I decided to give them another chance the next day, with a friend. We both ordered tacos, and I also mentioned to them what had happened the previous night--me coming home with a supposedly pastor burrito, but without the meat. They initially thought I wanted to order a burrito without meat, and after a few more minutes of trying to explain to them that it wasn't the case, I realized that perhaps language barrier was to blame for the "no-meat-burrito" incident. They claimed that they thought I'd wanted a burrito without meat, which was a bit amusing, but I decided to give them the benefit of the doubt and asked if they'd make me a complimentary pastor burrito to compensate. The guys refused, and instead refunded me with apologies, which was perplexing to me, so I just donated the refund to a fund-raising box for a local family in need placed right there on the truck. I hope everything that happened to me did happen for a good reason here, at the taco truck that I've grown to love in Boyle Heights, because I have changed my mind, once again.
