I took it out and made a couple of fire ass tacos later for dinner. They give you a good amount of food and their green sauce needs to be bottled and sold. The steak was seasoned so well, I was giving up hope for Mexican taquerias that don't marinate or season their meat enough. I'm not sure what is going on, but some places are really turning down on the flavor. Staff here were super nice and the place was clean. I was really tempted to get a churro from the other vendor in this location, but I can't eat too much fried food in one sitting. I'm not a spring chicken anymore, just a hefty hen lol.

Now, I always have this thing about Tacos Autlense in East San Jose. As far as I'm concerned, it's the best taquería in the country. This place comes close. The window for ordering is outside, at the front of the building. There is a menu board to the left of that window. It seems really typical with tacos and burritos, but they have a column that shows their seafood options. I got three carne asada tacos and my buddy got a super carne asada burrito. With an horchata and a Jarritos Limón, it came to just under $19.00. It sounds a little high, but I think it was okay because of the drinks. Many places charge $2.99 just for horchata, even though they're small. I also asked for lettuce and tomatoes. It's funny, I ordered in Espanglés/Spanglish and I'm not sure it was 100% necessary but it went very smoothly. It was ready VERY quickly--unnaturally quickly. We could hear that they were cooking, maybe grilling all the meat ahead of time. The dining room is very...Formica, and tired. It's as though they found tables from the 1970s and got some newer chairs (from the 1980s?) and put them around the room. The thing is--I don't care. The taste was amazing. They added a great amount of lettuce and tomatoes, so much that it was hard to close those little tacos. There was so much left over that I got out a pair of chopsticks from my backpack to get the rest of it from the plate. My buddy said "Now, I've seen everything--Mexican food with chopsticks! I've only ever tried their tacos, but I've ate with fellow Yelpers who have enjoyed their sopes, burritos, and tostadas. The tacos are perfect because the size of the tortilla is just right. It comes with the usual two layers of soft golden tortillas, your choice of meat, onions, cilantro, and salsa. My go to choice of meat is asada, which is perfectly cooked and the size of the cut asada goes perfectly with the tortillas. Optional is the onions, cilantro, and salsa. I normally take my tacos with everything on them. I've come to realize the red salsa is the perfect topping to this delicious taco. It's not too spicy, has a great flavor and is always consistently delicious. You can't forget to get aside if their marinated carrots, which is the perfect crunchy texture to add to this master piece of a taco. The staff is always friendly, the inside is always clean, and the food is consistent and delicious. I highly recommend trying this place out.

While the staff noticed, they continued with their work, which is understandable, but it would have been nice if someone had offered assistance or at least pointed us to where we could find napkins. We ended up tracking them down ourselves and cleaning the table and floor. The ambiance is a little different. During the evening, one side of the restaurant is brightly lit while the other side is dark and you don't really know where to go. Overall, I'd still recommend this spot for their tacos, quesadillas, burritos, and especially the Birria de Reyes, but I would probably skip the pozole.

I've even been using AI to help me find healthier restaurant options, which is how I came across Tacos America. It recommended the restaurant because they grill their chicken, so we were excited to try it. When we arrived, we saw them grilling meat outside and thought, "Perfect! This is exactly what we're looking for." Since the tacos are topped with vegetables, we felt like this would be a great, healthier option. Unfortunately, that's not what happened. While we were waiting, the people ahead of us ordered tripe. The tripe was being heated on the Blackstone in lard, and you could see it sizzling in the lard. After they removed the tripe and served it, it was time to prepare our tacos. They put our grilled chicken on that same surface with the same lard that had just been used for the tripe. I'm not someone who likes to complain, so I didn't say anything at the time. Looking back, I wish I had. I understand that they need to heat the meat before serving it, but if you are advertising grilled chicken as an option, customers should be able to expect that chicken to remain a healthier choice. At the very least, customers should be told if their food is going to be heated in lard and given the opportunity to say no. For someone like me, the entire reason for ordering chicken instead of fatty meats is to avoid exactly that. If I wanted my chicken cooked in lard, I could have ordered something else. It was especially frustrating because we specifically chose this restaurant believing we were making a healthier choice. As for the tacos themselves, they were good. Unfortunately, I ended up taking the chicken out of the tacos and only ate about 1/3 of it because I didn't feel comfortable eating all of it after seeing it heated in lard. I hated wasting the food, but I'm trying to take my diet seriously for my health. I really hope Tacos America considers this. If you offer grilled chicken as a healthier option, please don't put it on a surface covered in lard without telling the customer. There may be people ordering chicken for medical or dietary reasons who cannot eat lard or added fats. A simple question or warning would have made a huge difference. The tacos were good, but unfortunately, the way the chicken was handled completely defeated the reason we chose them in the first place.
