There's hole-in-the-walls, there's hidden gems, and then there's Tacos Los Betos - which isn't any of those. Tacos Los Betos is highly visible anytime you past by it on Baldwin. There's no question as to what food they serve and this place has been here for years. But from the outside, the place looks old, dilapidated, questionable, isolated, forgotten, even closed. It shares a parking lot with a little convenience store next door but you hardly see any cars in the parking lot. I've driven by so many times wondering if the place has any business. All the pictures online are a decade too old. For those reasons, I never had any urge to try Tacos Los Betos. But today after I had some lab work done, I decided to take a chance and come here. I already planned to get an asada burrito and I was going to go somewhere else before making a split second decision to try Tacos Los Betos out of curiosity. I'll be honest, I was a little hesitant going in seeing their "B" health rating. When I walked in, I had a hard time finding a burrito on their menu but I know they serve it because their restaurant sign lists it. I guess they're mostly known for their tacos, hence the restaurant name. The inside was bigger than I thought with a decently sized dining area, but I was taking my food to-go. When I ordered, the worker spoke to me in Spanish even though I'm not Hispanic. In fact their whole menu was in Spanish. Makes sense but some English would have been helpful for us non-Hispanic folks. When it was time to pay, I thought my burrito was $8.99 per the sign I saw, but it ended up being $10.99 + tax as the worker mentioned that the sign was for their burrito special, which I think she said was available on Wednesdays. I got my food in a reasonable amount of time and the worker gave me a green and red salsa. When I got home, I was starving and my asada burrito went down pretty easily. It tasted good, but in hindsight the burrito was average - not spectacular but it did the job. The burrito had a good ratio of meat, rice, and beans, but my burrito started to fall apart after eating about half of it. I liked the rice that the burrito had in it, it was one of the highlights of the burrito. The meat tasted alright, but it was a bit too ground up for my liking. The salsas were just okay, I thought it could have used a little more heat and flavor. Would I come here again? I don't know. I could get a better burrito at many places nearby. But maybe if I was passing by and had a sudden craving. What I will say is that I think this restaurant needs major TLC, new, updated menu and signage in English, and perhaps better marketing. read more

Their tacos are pretty big compared to the street tacos. I got 3 carne asada tacos for $6.50. It was yummy. I'm new to the area and decided to bring my two sons here last night. I ordered to eat inside after sitting there for like 3 minutes I had my 21year old son get up and tell the lady that we rather take it to go. I have a 21 and 10 year old sons. There was two drunk men sitting there eating and drinking tall cans of Budweiser but that's not what was upsetting. They both kept overlying staring and one kept touching himself while looking at me I was so uncomfortable. Besides that the meat in the tacos tasted burnt and old with a weird smell. I ended up throwing away the food. This place is super small inside and allow drunk men to continue to drink and make people feel uncomfortable. I didn't get to try their tacos but had a carne asada quesadilla. There was a small piece of plastic that looked like wrapping in my quesadilla- thankfully I was able to see it first before chewing on it. There were pieces of meat in the quesadilla that were super chewy like the leftover bits off the grill. Everyone working there only speaks Spanish, so half the time, I don't know if they understood what I ordered with my Gringo-speak. THE HITLIST: I always get a taco lengua, birria, pastor, asada, and pollo. 5 tacos for $5 leaving a very VERY happy customer. The meats have just enough flavor and the textures leave you satisfied. The salsas they have accentuate the flavors and are all you can splurge. BONUS: There is a special every day of the week except for Fridays. From memory, I know there is 5 tacos and a med. drink for $5 on Tuesdays, Menudo on Saturday and Sunday, Tortas on Wednesdays, and the rest, you'll have to go visit and figure out on your own. Pro - good place, good location, small parking lot, good food. Bought the steak and eggs for $1.99, total came out to be $2.19 including tax. The toast was good, not dry at all or soggy with butter. I work just down the street from this place and while I've driven by numerous times on the way to other local eateries for lunch, I have never stopped by until today. Wow!! Amazing tacos with a great accompaniment bar (pickled onions and avocado salsa were perfect on the tacos). I tried the pollo, birria, and carnitas tacos. All were great, particularly the carnitas, and for only a buck a piece. I look forward to going back and trying the al pastor, which looked really great turning around on the spit in the kitchen. They have FRESH QUACAMOLE! Not green runny stuff that's Guac flavored... Today I got 3 Taquitos and guac for like 4.13. I think the fresh guac is worth 3 by itself! I've been driving past this place 2x a day, for years now! Was always curious, and on a tip from friend, finally tried it and YUM! Great tacos at only $1 each. Can't beat that. There's even a condiment bars with: sliced radish, cucumbers, limes, salsa... and the necessary accoutrements for the perfect taco. So uploaded yelp onto my phone and Tacos Los Betos popped up. I read all the good reviews and I told myself I'll mix it up today. I usually go to Gardunos for my Mexican grub. Prices are good, service was good, food was ok. I was expecting a lot more. Now I'm not like Mr. Pink from Reservoir Dogs. Mr. Pink doesn't want to tip the waitress because of the service. I'm not picky like that, but after reading all of the positive reviews I expected bomb ass grub. Salsa bar was ok, it looked like a truck ran over it a few times, no avocado sauce. Maybe if I would have gotten some great avocado sauce I would have given 2 1/2 stars. Last negative was the little limes.
