A very good 'hole in the wall' taco shop in a strip center on De Zavala. Plenty of parking, about a dozen tables inside and a small patio with outside seating. Basic place with the usual TVs going, but at least it was clean. Service was brusque but quick. Ordered the 5 mini-tacos with carne asada (basically street tacos). Good, though not excellent as it's a little bland and the meat was mixed in terms of tenderness. The standout was the chicken fajita burrito, which was nearly 2 pounds(!) of Tex-Mex goodness. This place scores a 4 out of 5 on the 'CTJ Scale', as noted below. 5 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Jesus good. Would be OK passing away after finishing a plate here. 4 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Mary good. OMG I thought I would never give this restaurant a bad review.... Me and my boyfriend ordered late dinner like we always have but today Friday the 13th luck was not with us.... We ordered a three enchilada place with chicken fajita and six tacos.... First off the beans were horrible they were really light in color almost white... Tasted gross... The enchiladas were nasty and the second order of enchiladas were also not good... I'm so disappointed because we've came here many many times... The worker had no welcoming energy... sloppy and just not work material... Just the food was not good... The lady came over shortly & took my drink order. Getting the Mexican Coke is always best. Then I ordered a barbocoa plate. Like others have stated, the portions are large. Grandbea would've called em runny. ‍ I asked for flour tortillas, I know weda, But the 1st one was good & fresh. Theirs are the thicker flour tortillas. Sometimes that's what you want!!!! Well, this was one of those days. So, I was looking forward to the 2nd one. Sadly, it had begun to cool & get hard. It happens to the thick ones. But, I still took my taco home in it. I was full after one good taco. IMO they give you enough barbaco for three decent sized tacos, plus the sides. Everything was just over $17. For breakfast, in San Antonio, to me that's a lot. But...it's a sign of the time, & where I was. I know on my side of town that price wouldn't hold up, which sucks. Because the food is often better. But, while I was eating, I kept thinking to myself, I wish this place would open on my side of town! They'd do well there. So, there's that. ‍‍‍ They have a Salsa Bar. Some periodical had this joint on a list of best breakfast tacos, so I bookmarked it. The joint is simple and somewhat divey. No frills. But those are often the best places. I'm not overly impressed. We ordered: two burritos (machca and potato, egg, bacon) and three breakfast tacos. The burritos are decent size, but I was underwhelmed by my machaca; It was bland (probably could have used some salt, and I don't salt ANYTHING). Likewise, my bacon, egg, and potato taco needed needed salsa. I didn't even eat my second taco, and that's rare for me when it comes to breakfast tacos. Lastly, I thought the price was a little high. Service was fine; not overly friendly, but not rude. We picked up a to go order, so we had minimal interaction with staff. Here's my beef, and it may sound silly...but I'll tell ya anyway. My wife and I did a fair amount of "DoorDash-ing" during the pandemic. We noticed places charging more on DoorDash than you'd pay if you ate "in house". So, I got curious: we ordered the exact same order on the DoorDash app ...and it was $10 less than we paid. Did I get over charged? Do they charge more for to-go orders ? Ughh. This is by far the worst Los balitos location, I get consistently smaller portions and nickeled and dimed for everything. Even my steak quesadilla was very much lacking the level of cheese I typically get. Go to bitters location, or I even heard stone oak location good. The beef was tender and well spiced. She considered the taco just delicious. I ordered a carne guisada taco and a chicken fajita taco. The guisada beef was tender, the dark sauce heavily spiced with paprika and chile powder. The taco was good, but not excellent. The chicken fajita was a real winner: very tender and juicy chicken, well spiced...just delicious. Friends, of the many taco houses we have visited the past year, this chicken fajita is one of the better. Came here from California to visit Sam Antonio. The family wanted Mexican food and we figured we'd find legit Mexican food since we are close to the border. The service is good and the staff is very friendly. The food is not as good as I expected it to be. The carne asada was pretty salty and I could tell that they use the cheapest meat. We will never go back as the table was dirty when we sat down, we had to ask for utensils after we were served, the food was tasteless and an added charge for using a card.
