Taisho has been a around in Arcadia for the longest time. Their food was always good enough. It was nostalgic to have it again, but a few things have definitely changed. I got the spicy tuna bowl and it is now $18. I felt that this was pretty expensive for what it was since the order just contains of spicy tuna and rice. The spicy tuna was also on the sweeter side, which I found a little odd. When I was younger, the bowl came with a good amount of seaweed on the side, but they give significantly less now. I feel that the quality and quantity have gone down all together. The salmon roll and chicken curry katsu were also standard. The ambiance of the restaurant is casual, almost resembling a mom and pop shop. The service was on par and the food came out quickly. Parking: Ample parking in the plaza. read more

Wow, this spot is a gem! Located in a plaza on Huntington Drive in Monrovia, my family got a chance to try out this teryaki bowl restaurant while we were staying at the extended stay around the corner and it was so good we've come back several times since! These days, it's hard to buy one meal for lease than $10, but their small plates come out to around $8 with tax and is plenty of food. My husband tried out the bigger chicken teryaki that's comes with the side of California rolls, and overall, we were both amazed with how great the flavor was and how fresh the veggies were. Cool little teriyaki spot that we ran into this week. Was getting pizza next door but my daughter wanted something else. Took her to this spot since it was convenient and she loves Asian food. The staff is friendly and fast to get your order, came during lunch rush but the wait was not long. Loved that they have affordable sushi and other dishes. Another first time trip for me. I had the Udon noodles with chicken and the edamame. The noodles were cooked perfectly and the broth was tasty and hot but too salty. The chicken wasn't seasoned, but was tender and had flavor from the broth. The edamame was good but some salt or other seasoning would have been nice. Wow things change but this place has really changed. Today I ordered the Combo Sushi Bowl and I got what looked like a sushi plate with sides. I'm not sure but the amount of Salmon and Spicy Tuna seems to be less. The way they are tight with the Soy Sauce packets is annoying too. Unfortunately the cashier's attitude wasn't very friendly. This is the best teriyaki spot in SGV. The food here is so delicious! When you order a plate it's just the right amount of veggies and everything in the box laid out carefully and simply placed in the box that's just appealing to look at. I had been looking for a replacement for Bento-ya that had been in Arcadia til 2022. This was close enough in food style and cost. But at that time all their staff had been friendly and great cooks, and the quality had been great. Over time I've noticed the staff change and the quality of the service and food has gone down. They make mistakes then lie about it. Zero accountability and rude to the customers. I miss the old staff. Clearly the management changed within the last year as well. Such a shame. This place is not like a regular Japanese restaurant but closer to something like Yoshinoya. I loved the generous amount of veggies and chicken. The teriyaki sauce was not overbearing and did not turn the rice soggy. For a supposedly small size bowl, there was a lot of food. Overall, the food was delicious for its cost of under $10. Despite the pandemic, Taisho still does everything right for casual dining. The staff is always polite and friendly whether the service is over the phone or when you go to pick up. There has never been a time where I wasn't greeted coming in or leaving the store. I appreciate the consistency with service and timeliness of the orders. This has been my go-to eating spot ever since I was younger, and I have always deeply enjoyed the food and customer service. The workers are always so nice and have been friendly faces. My personal favorite is the chicken and beef plate, since it comes with a good amount of food for the price, and the gyoza. There are seats to sit down and eat, but sometimes due to the busy times, there is not a lot of space. But there are also seats outside that allow more space. I LOVE TAISHO!!! It is so hard to get decent food for decent prices nowadays. Two entrees costs about mid 20s and it fills you up!! I always get their curry chicken rice set and my partner always gets the teriyaki chicken and beef rice set. I feel like you can't go wrong with Taisho with the prices they have these days. I am not sure why some other reviews have complaints about food quality but I am pleased every visit. It is better to call and order as they do get quite busy sometimes.
