Taisho forever! I have been going here ever since I was a kid and no other teriyaki place compares - no bias. I live in the OC now but will come drive all the way to Monrovia for this chicken and beef teriyaki combo. The sauce speaks for itself as well as the meat. The beef is my favorite and I can eat it every day. I love the location as they offer outdoor seating. Everyone is really friendly and will listen to all your requests. My only hope is that they come closer to the OC one day. The side vegetables are also so fresh. I've tried some of their rolls and they are really delicious too. read more

Great Japanese fast food. We usually rotate between chicken plate and salmon plate and on occasion we get the sushi. I have not yet tried the curry. But I'm sure it's just as good. The order taker and everyone there is so nice. As for the ambiance, I usually call and order to go and by the time I'm at Taisho or pick up my food, everyone has the same idea and wants a chicken bowl for lunch or dinner too. read more

Taisho has been a around in Arcadia for the longest time. Their food was always good enough. It was nostalgic to have it again, but a few things have definitely changed. I got the spicy tuna bowl and it is now $18. I felt that this was pretty expensive for what it was since the order just contains of spicy tuna and rice. The spicy tuna was also on the sweeter side, which I found a little odd. When I was younger, the bowl came with a good amount of seaweed on the side, but they give significantly less now. I feel that the quality and quantity have gone down all together. The salmon roll and chicken curry katsu were also standard. The ambiance of the restaurant is casual, almost resembling a mom and pop shop. The service was on par and the food came out quickly. Parking: Ample parking in the plaza. read more

Wow, this spot is a gem! Located in a plaza on Huntington Drive in Monrovia, my family got a chance to try out this teryaki bowl restaurant while we were staying at the extended stay around the corner and it was so good we've come back several times since! These days, it's hard to buy one meal for lease than $10, but their small plates come out to around $8 with tax and is plenty of food. My husband tried out the bigger chicken teryaki that's comes with the side of California rolls, and overall, we were both amazed with how great the flavor was and how fresh the veggies were. This will be a go-to whenever we are close by. read more

Cool little teriyaki spot that we ran into this week. Was getting pizza next door but my daughter wanted something else. Took her to this spot since it was convenient and she loves Asian food. The staff is friendly and fast to get your order, came during lunch rush but the wait was not long. Loved that they have affordable sushi and other dishes. Another first time trip for me. I had the Udon noodles with chicken and the edamame. The noodles were cooked perfectly and the broth was tasty and hot but too salty. The chicken wasn't seasoned, but was tender and had flavor from the broth. The edamame was good but some salt or other seasoning would have been nice. For my 200th review I wanted to write it on a place that has been a big part of my childhood. Taisho has been my favorite higher end fast food go to spot for as long as I can remember and I hope it stays in this little plaza forever because it deserves so many awards! I reminisce about the next time I may eat here and it's honestly such a staple joint for me I don't know what I would do without it! If you are looking for affordable & delicious Japanese food. You stumbled upon the right spot. This place is known for their Teriyaki chicken & Sushi thats in a fast food vibe. The plates are very affordable where a small chicken plate is roughly $7 and a large is $8.60 The portion size is great for the value & the food is fantastic. I always opt for the Chicken / Beef / Chicken Udon / California Rolls depending on what i'm craving. Itsy bitsy joint with limited but Good menu. Everything is always made fresh and they get to it pretty quick. Portions are good for a little steep if a price but the ingredients shine through. Wow things change but this place has really changed. Today I ordered the Combo Sushi Bowl and I got what looked like a sushi plate with sides. I'm not sure but the amount of Salmon and Spicy Tuna seems to be less. The way they are tight with the Soy Sauce packets is annoying too. Unfortunately the cashier's attitude wasn't very friendly. I have been coming to eat here since the original owners opened the place almost 20 years ago. I guess nothing stays the same. read more

We ordered over 225 + meals for the Arcadia High School Marching Band (Chicken Teriyaki, Beef Short Ribs, and Salmon Teriyaki). The food was a hit, and everyone raved about its deliciousness. The owner is incredibly friendly and goes above and beyond to cater to the band students and their parents. This is the best teriyaki spot in SGV. The food here is so delicious! When you order a plate it's just the right amount of veggies and everything in the box laid out carefully and simply placed in the box that's just appealing to look at. I like to order brown rice which has an up charge but well worth it for the flavor. The sushi rolls and Mac salad is also bomb. read more

This was the closest rice bowl place to my location so I decided to give it a shot. I ordered a small teriyaki chicken bowl which arrived within 5 minutes of ordering. This place is not like a regular Japanese restaurant but closer to something like Yoshinoya. I loved the generous amount of veggies and chicken. The teriyaki sauce was not overbearing and did not turn the rice soggy. For a supposedly small size bowl, there was a lot of food. Overall, the food was delicious for its cost of under $10. I had been looking for a replacement for Bento-ya that had been in Arcadia til 2022. This was close enough in food style and cost. But at that time all their staff had been friendly and great cooks, and the quality had been great. Over time I've noticed the staff change and the quality of the service and food has gone down. They make mistakes then lie about it. Zero accountability and rude to the customers. I miss the old staff. Clearly the management changed within the last year as well. Such a shame. But I'm never returning after the last time I was there and they lied nonstop over an error in order on their end. read more

Despite the pandemic, Taisho still does everything right for casual dining. The staff is always polite and friendly whether the service is over the phone or when you go to pick up. There has never been a time where I wasn't greeted coming in or leaving the store. I appreciate the consistency with service and timeliness of the orders. The portions and quality of the food are also consistent. Our go to dishes are: -Salmon sushi bowl -Seaweed udon -Chicken curry -Teriyaki chicken bowl Thanks Taisho. This has been my go-to eating spot ever since I was younger, and I have always deeply enjoyed the food and customer service. The workers are always so nice and have been friendly faces. My personal favorite is the chicken and beef plate, since it comes with a good amount of food for the price, and the gyoza. There are seats to sit down and eat, but sometimes due to the busy times, there is not a lot of space. But there are also seats outside that allow more space. Overall, one of my favorite eating places. Good quality for a good price! Check it out. read more

First off, the takoyaki octopus balls were full of flavor. I feel that this place does them really well. You don't feel overwhelmed by any seafood tastes and instead, you get well balanced flavor throughout every bite with the combination of the ball itself, the sauces and the flakes on top. Next is the omurice. The egg is cooked to perfection and tastes absolutely amazing. The curry, however, which was recommended by the waiter over the Demi glaze, tasted exactly like the Vermont curry cube you get in the grocery store, so I'm not sure why he recommended that over the Demi glaze. The fried rice within the omurice was alright too. Originally, I wanted to get the tonkatsu omurice but got it on the side as the choice wasn't available for the lunch menu. I would suggest doing without the tonkatsu because it was dry and there's a million and one places that can do tonkatsu better than this place. Honestly, I wish I had the opportunity to cut the omurice myself and choose how much curry I put on it, but the staff did that instead, which I guess made for a good video, but took away from my innate desires to cut the egg on my own haha. Next, the ramen tasted pretty basic like what you could get at any ramen shop. For the chicken wings, I've never had chicken wings in this flavor. Walked into this sushi restaurant randomly, and it was so good. Fish are so fresh, we enjoyed every…read moresingle bite. Serving size is great and sushi was made perfectly. Lunch special included ramen, sushi and rice bowls. Food came out quality and delicious, server was so friendly, Street parking depends on lucky, there also parking lot around the area. We will definitely come back again.
