My favorite coffee place in my residential area. Their roast is on point. The staff takes care to check calibration and ensure perfect shots as much as possible. The staff is super accommodating and beyond friendly. If they don't have the milk you prefer, bring your own/ bring your own travel tumbler! This shop is located inside the Liberty Station Public Market, which can be a hassle at peak times, but it's worth the wait. My go to is an iced latte with soy milk, or my own milk (the non dairy options they have are simply too much sugar for me, but great tasting in a pinch), and I highly recommend them! read more

A friend of mine accompanied me to the Liberty Public Market, and she freaked out when she saw the WestBean Coffee Roasters' booth. She highly recommended I give their cold brew on nitro a try - particularly, the Kryptonite (mint-infused iced coffee), and I'm so glad she did because it was delicious. Not too sweet, and VERY refreshing. I went back again the next day just for this coffee. After pushing my way through the hordes of people scrambling for tasty treats the public market, I knew there was only one thing that would perk me up, caffeine. I'm a sucker for cold brew and WestBean does it right. Like a zombie I handed my card to the cashier and he handed my back some delicious lifeblood. Fresh from the tap. New hours y'all 8am-8pm! I stopped by this morning around 730am to grab a Kryptonite. No one was there. A janitor told me that they had changed their hours but to hang on. A few minutes a later a tall gentleman came over and informed that they had indeed changed their hours but he was glad to serve me my coffee. He had been coming early for that very reason. One of the best cold brews I have had in SD. I was not expecting that. These people know how to brew good coffee. They even bottle it for you to take home but it's a bit more expensive. They are located in the heart of the public market next to the empanada shop. read more

Liberty Station finally has an outstanding coffee shop. Coffee is a bit of a religious experience for me. It sets the tone for my day. The gentleman at West Bean take their craft very seriously. The espresso was excellent. It had a hint of sweetness to it. (I had to try it on its own) I also ordered a chai latte and it was nothing short of perfect. The milk was steamed expertly and they even made their own vanilla chai. My drink would have been enough to keep me coming back. I absolutely love this coffee. I've gone out of my way on several occasions to get this cup of coffee at Liberty Station. Westbean has it figured out, the roast on this coffee is nothing like I've tasted at other coffee locations. The entire place has a great flow that makes it a unique spot to grab some coffee and take in the whole scene. First time I came here, I thought the latte was ok - creamy but too weak. Today, I tried to order again, but an extra shot would be an $1 extra. I usually dont mind paying extra for a shot but the barista seemed annoyed that I questioned the strength of their shot of coffee and was very condescending telling me I should have a flat white and went on to tell me what it is. I know what a flat white is, thank you very much. Regardless what coffee I choose, I should be able to taste the coffee. My husband finally opted to get a latte to have with our dessert. We both regretted it after our first sip. For $4, I can go buy a gallon of milk to last me a week. Customer service is cool, depending who you interact with. Mediocre coffee. Throw a teat on, my 6 month old would be none the wiser. Drop the elitist vibe, readjust the coffee strength and it could be a regular spot for me. read more

Stumbled across this coffee shop today, looking for a place to get my daily coffee fix. Tried their "kryptonite" which is mint infused coffee. Really delicious! The mint flavor was very subtle and comes with milk/cream and just enough sugar for a semi-sweet drink. I usually drink my coffees without sugar but they didn't overdue it with the sweetness. We stopped by Public Market last weekend and were excited to see that our favorite downtown coffee shop has a second location in Liberty Station. My wife each grabbed a cup of coffee and bought a couple of cold brew bottles for the road. The coffee was as expected, perfect. I usually need sugar and milk to hide the burnt taste of other coffee, but West Bean does something right when they roast so that the pure flavor of the bean comes out instead of that burnt nastiness that others produce. They're a local company and I'm a big fan. Glad to have great products coming out of San Diego. read more

Had a Cortado. It was wonderful. I like many different types of coffee, strong, fru-fru, medium roast... whatever. Westbean can definitely get you what you want. I would say they didn't have the friendliest service... but, really, I wasn't offended. Really, what is involved with swiping a credit card. There was a barista that looked like he took his CRAFT very seriously. Did not mess around when he was crafting a drink... very skilled, and seems like he has been doing this for years! I don't actually know how good the coffee is, because I was never served. I waited a couple minutes, money out, looking hopeful, moving to different spots, trying to get the attention of any of the three staff, but no one acknowledged I was there. There was only one other customer. I'm 5'11. I'm hard to miss. The brunette at the register was having a long conversation with the other customer and getting different coffee samples for him. She didn't acknowledge my presence or think to take an order while the guy pondered. The other two staff, a redhead girl and a brown-haired guy, just stood there staring at the ceiling. They must hate their boss, or want to drive Westbean into bankruptcy, or they are just that self-absorbed. I finally gave up and left. read more
