Came here on a weekend for dinner and was delighted we have Tang Jip so close to home. Parking gets rough, so try to come for an early dinner! By the time we left, people were circling and waiting for others to leave the lot. I don't think they're fully staffed yet, so have patience. Banchan was delicious and we couldn't stop eating it! What we ordered: - seafood pancake: very crispy and satisfying - rose tteokbokki: not spicy at all, I could've used a little bit more spice - soy marinated crab: everything that I've ever wanted. The marinade was perfectly savory and sweet and the crab was very fresh. It came with a bowl of rice with vegetables so you could squeeze out the crab onto the bowl and mix it up. I'm so happy they opened a good Korean restaurant in Hayward! This is one of my favorite local spots. It replaced the old Japanese restaurant. The decor inside is cute & they really tried to bring the culture to life. My husband and I always get the combo, soon tofu + meat option & depending on how hungry we are, sometimes we even get the bossam. We normally go for our normal samgyupsal & bulgogi protein picks but the other options are good as well. The food is always delicious and the banchans are good as well! When we came by while it was raining, they automatically gave us hot tea which I loved. The staff are kind although not always attentive but I didn't take a star away because they were kind and helpful once you got a hold of them. For the first time, the samgyupsal did come out a little light for my liking. Almost undercooked. I kindly asked if they could fry it longer for me and they had no issues doing that. It was better when they brought it back! Never had this issue before but if it comes up for you, just know you can just ask them to cook it longer. Something note worthy is that they don't give you the cabbage wraps for bossam. They only give you lettuce which is unfortunate but it still works. Located in a quiet plaza, you'd be surprised by the interior. Bright with casual ambience. It's surprisingly larger than it seems from the outside. We were a group of 3 so we were seated quickly on a Saturday night. Ordering was easy. You order your items via the built in tablet on your table. Yukgaejang and galbitang were super good and I would come back to fulfill my cravings Gamjatang was ok - I was underwhelmed by the lack of flavor and tenderness of the pork. The inside was inviting and spacious. At the table there is a tablet where you can place your order. The whole ordering process was super easy and at your own pace. We ordered the soy raw marinated crab, kimchi tofu soup, and the Galbi jjim. All the banchan that came with the meal were super delicious. The Napa cabbage kimchi was definitely a stand out! I've never had raw marinated crab before so when I saw it on the menu I knew I had to try. The crab tasted fresh and sweet. I thought the seasoning didn't over power the taste of the crab. I thought that the price was a bit expensive ($39.99) for one crab. The galbijjim was tender and had a good amount of meat. The flavor wasn't too salty either. The kimchi tofu soup was good too and the meat inside complimented the soup nicely. Overall, this place has solid Korean food and amazing banchan. The service was friendly and they had a wide variety of items on the menu. Some things were on the pricier side but everything tasted good. The inside of the restaurant is spacious and clean, with modern wood designs. You order on an iPad which made everything feel super efficient. We came specifically to try the marinated raw crab and it didn't disappoint. My husband and I dined at Tang Jip a few weekends back. Even though we came early in the evening, there was quite a bit of a wait. We ended up waiting about 30 to 35 minutes before getting seated in the separate room towards the back of the restaurant. Parking: no restaurant parking. Park on the streets or at one of the public lots offered by the city Ambiance: Japanese vibe, likely retained some of the decor from the previous Japanese establishment. It's a pretty spacious spot so it's great for parties, family and coworker gatherings or even a casual date. Service: 3.5/5. One of our dishes took a bit long to arrive and when we wanted to order, it took the wait staff a bit long to get to us. It wasn't particularly busy that evening but maybe the restaurant was just short staff that night. Food: 4/5. The side dishes were delicious and it was refilled upon request. The seafood pancake was my favorite. Great portion size and had a lot of seafood in it. We also got the bulgogi which was just ok and it took forever to arrive. We came for the spicy raw marinated crab and the portion size was super generous. I didn't like the texture but my husband loved it. They gave us so much crab that we couldn't even finish it although we both came hungry. We had enough leftovers of the crab for lunch the next day. The seafood pancake was the dish of the night-- large, crispy and loaded with seafood. I would order two of these. They were attentive, even though they were busy. And if we needed something, they would stop by and get it for us right away. It was really clean, the food came pretty quick. I was honestly half full from just eating all the banchan. We chose to come here for my dad's birthday because my sister raved about it and we were hoping to get dessert across the street at the bakery called Always Yours. The interior of Tang Jip is warm and inviting and the noise level is pretty average, not a chaotic place at all. I opted for the beef sundubu which I got spicy and it was delicious! My sister tried the mild seafood sundubu and she said hers was lacking flavor and we're not sure if it was because of the mild or because they forgot seasoning. I also tried the mandu and corn cheese. Both were good, pretty standard but didn't blow me away. Presentation of all the dishes was pretty. Personally I thought the food was good overall and I would come back if I was in the area and craving Korean food, but I didn't love it enough to make the drive again especially because parking in the area is hell. Walked in with high expectations, ready to be blown away like I was the main character in a K-drama food montage. Interior & vibes: Super cute. BUT shoutout to their bonchon. Honestly, the bonchon was delicious. Super fresh, flavorful, and probably the thing I enjoyed the most. If they sold the banchan separately I might just door-dash that on its own. Unfortunately, after the meal, I caught a slight stomach ache the type that whispers, "Yep... that's a lot of MSG." We LOVE the one in Concord. It's our go-to after our pickleball tournaments. So we were super excited to find out that one was opening up a few minutes from our home. We've been here twice now. FOOD: The menu is not exactly the same. Overall, they offer very similar items, but this location: - doesn't have a pork tofu soup which is very unusual - offers pork-jimm too - they have a assorted variety of raw marinated seafood (which we've yet to try, they were sold out when we went tonight) - their banchans don't include the homemade fish cake (which the Concord location has, and it's THE BEST fish cake I've had in banchan ever). We were a little sad they didn't serve the same ones here. Other than the difference, I love their galbi tang and their seafood pancake :) My go-to order whenever I come here. SERVICE: Orders are made on an pad at your table now (drinks need to be ordered in person). This makes it very convenient, however, can still be had to wave someone down for banchan and water refills and getting the bill. The first time we came, the lady got my sister's order wrong and we were offered a 10% off the next time we came. My second time at this location and it was just as good as the first time I was here! The first time was for lunch, and we were immediately seated, but for dinner around 7pm on a Saturday, there was a long line. We waited about 15 min or so before we were seated, which wasn't too bad. I like the simple yet modern interior. The tables in the middle have tablets, so we were able to order directly from there. The first time we ordered two dishes for the both of us - Beef Bulgogi (beef was soft and tender) and Gamja Tang (soup was flavorful and loved that the meat practically fell off the bone). The second time was to try their Soy Marinated Crab. It looked like a bland and simple dish but it was so flavorful, especially paired with the fish roe rice bowl. We also ordered Galbi Tang, Bibimbap (didn't think it was necessary to pay extra for the hot stone), and the Beef Bulgogi. All the dishes were spectacular! I think I've found my favorite Korean restaurant in Hayward. It is on the pricier side, but I think it's worth the price given the quality you get. The moment you walk in, you can feel the inner peace surrounding you with its earth tones and modern bamboo style light fixtures. It almost feels like you walked into a bento box, there were very straight black lines all across the room and on top of the ceiling. It just felt very well placed. I thought it had good flavoring but was surprised to find more ribs with no meat on them, we counted 17 pieces of bones where 9 had full meat. I asked the server why that may be and they explained to me that is how their short rib is served. More bones than meat. Hmmm... interesting... I still enjoyed it but I question the extra bones. :) Dumping w/rice cake soup - swimming in the soup were 3 jumbo and I mean JUMBO dumplings, each was the size of my fist. The soup was such a comfort to eat and I enjoyed the dumplings filled with the softest mince pork I've ever had. Small pieces of rice cakes can be found on the bottom of the bowl with slivers of beef and thin strands of chewy tofu (at least I think it was tofu). :) All served with their house made banchan. Cold broccoli, chapchae noodles, kimchee, and pickled vegetables. We loved the broccoli and requested for a refill but the server told us they were all out. Except, we saw more broccoli come out to other tables, which really pissed me off. THEY LIED. At least just tell us the truth and say every table gets one serving, we would had understood. Finally a solid Korean spot in Hayward that serves raw marinated crab! We picked the spicy marinated one instead of the soy and it did not disappoint! The sauce was soooo flavorful. A bit pricey for what you get but worth it since the crab they used were super meaty. Another dish I highly recommend is the seafood pancakes. The seafood to batter ratio was great and the outside was perfectly crispy. Prob one of the best seafood pancakes I've tried. We also got the Galbi and sundubu combo. They were both okay, I wasn't super impressed by it. Banchan was great! Loved that they included japchae, you don't see that as much anymore. We ordered kalbitang and a small bossam. The kalbitang was really flavorful and comforting. Highly recommend both. Found Tang Jip on Yelp, this is one of three locations but the only one where I could not find the phone number online. I was trying to call to see if they had naengmyun. We decided to wing it and found a street parking spot right in front. There's also a lot one shop over. They didn't have naengmyun but we decided to give them a try. They have a bit of everything (soon dubu, kbbq meats, bossam, raw marinated seafood, etc.). Ganjang gejang is a rare find, very cool that they have it. We were in for a quick meal so will have to try that next time. I also saw raw abalone on the menu which I love and have not seen at any Korean restaurants I've gone to in the Bay, but menu said it was out. I asked the staff and he was very transparent that he has never actually seen it available, haha. We got the galbi which was good, they give you doenjang and some leafy greens with it. There was more char on maybe 1-3 pieces than I'd like but that's it. The seullongtang and banchan were decent. Really friendly and fast service. Clean and nicely decorated interior, feels a step up from the average Korean joint at this price point (or maybe just really new!). FINALLY, a place that sells raw marinated crab in the East Bay! My sister saw this place on social media, hyping up their marinated crabs and we had to give it a try! We came in on a Friday around 6PM and were seated immediately, but this place gets packed - the whole restaurant was filled up with a wait outside around 6:30! The restaurant has a casual, but modern feel to it with their menu full of assorted liquors, ranging from soju, makgeolli, and highballs! The staff was super accommodating, friendly, and attentive - we had a young baby in our party, and they were super helpful in helping us find a high chair for him! I also saw one of the staff pick up a piece of trash I accidentally dropped on the floor as he whisked by - so attentive!! We ordered their galbi jjim, soy marinated raw crab, spicy marinated raw crab, and the appetizer portion of bossam (this was a lot of food for 4 people, but we got carried away lol) Galbi jjim 7/10 - overall flavor was great, and the portion was a decent size. The rice cakes were soft and chewy, and their short ribs were fall off the bone! The only downside was that one of our pieces had a ton of shattered bone fragments that stabbed my husband in the mouth as he was eating. Soy marinated crab 6/10 - Hmmm I've had better - for $40, you get 1 crab with a rice bowl. The flavor of the marinade was on the lighter side, really showcasing the flavor of the crab. However, the crab was slightly fishy, and didn't seem the freshest. The crab did come with tons of roe, which I was excited to see! Spicy marinated crab 9/10 - the marinade they made for this crab was delicious!! I can't tell if the crab was any fresher, but the marinade flavors covered up any of the fishy smell and made it taste much better. They also serve significantly more crabs with this dish, yielding a better crab to rice bowl ratio! A great deal, I would come back here just for this! Bossam 8/10 - oooooh, their pork belly was so deliciously fatty and well cooked! The pork was super tender, almost melt in your mouth and paired perfectly with the crunchy radish kimchi! My only regret is not paying extra for the lettuce wrap, it made the dish feel slightly incomplete. I ordered a few things from the menus but I can for the marinated crab and it did not disappoint. It's hard to find a restaurant that offers it here in the east bay. They have Terra beer which I was hoping they had and the portions are great. Service- everyone was saying it took long here but honestly it definitely did not. Really excellent Korean, we came for the soy marinated crab and was very impressed by the quality and the service. We had two servings of soy marinated crab, an order of galbi, an order of soy marinated shrimp and cheese corn. The soy marinated crab was the best crab I've had so far. I've had it in San Jose, LA (two different people), and Las Vegas. In San Jose and LA the sauce kind of left a taste on the tongue after a while which made it hard to eat more. At this restaurant the sauce was a lot smoother. The crab had a lot of roe as well. I will say that it was around $40 for one crab where it was two crabs at the Las Vegas place I went to. I think the quality of the crabs was a lot better here though. The shrimp was pretty good, same sauce as the crab but the crab has a lot of different flavor from the roe and guts. Still worth a try though. Each serving of the soy marinated seafood came with a yummy rice with seaweed, seaweed salad and roe. The cheese corn was really good and my wife loved the crispy parts. The Galbi was a little disappointing because it was a lot of bone. Tasty but needed more meat. The service was top notch! Food came out quick and the servers checked on us a lot. Also the lady was so nice. She noticed that we would not need the extra rice and packed up a brand new one with all of the components separately. My favorite Korean restaurant right now in the Bay Area. I've been here 4 times now and it's always amazing. The food quality/taste is always consistent and the service is usually good. Love that this Korean restaurant has opened in Hayward! Had a chance to stop by on a weekday evening and it was decently packed. Once you step in, an IU cutout greets you at the door and it practically feels like you're in Korea lol! We came here originally to try the raw marinated crab but ended up getting soup dishes! We really wanted to get the gukbap but it was not available that night so settled for the Galbi Tang. The Galbi Tang was seasoned very well and paired nicely with the cold and gloomy weather that night. We ordered the Bossam and corn cheese. Both were delicious! The Bossam was so tender and paired really well with the side dishes that it was served with. The corn cheese... AMAZING it came out on a hot sizzling plate and we cleaned the plate!
