Stopped in for some take-out on Sunday night. The interior of the restaurant is really nice...dark wood (okay, maybe "wood") with orange accents. We ordered 2 entrees and eggrolls and waited. It is a little curious when you enter because there's no host and the only menus up front are for take-out. This was fine for us, but for the couple who followed and wanted to eat in, it seemed confusing. The waiter (yeah, only one) took our order and we hung out for 10 minutes. He came back with a bag and our bill. $25 not including the tip. The food was fantastic! There aren't any leftovers in the fridge! The eggrolls were good (as expected), the spicy fried rice with chicken was complex and amazing. Our last entree was the pad garee with beef and we both were blown away! Totally complex flavors and unexpected depth. The sauce was super rich and smoky and spicy. We ordered 3 out of 4 stars on both. The spicyness was perfect! The only bummer (totally not their fault) is that I thought I had quick rice at home so we didn't order any. So no rice to go with the pad garee. At less than $10 per entree, I'm coming back. This place is now #1 for Thai restaurants and an extra bonus because its so close to my house! read more

I ate here last night with my family. It was our first meal out together in a long time, and it was a very good experience! There were not that many people sitting in the (beautifully decorated!) restaurant for dinner, but there were several people coming in for take-out. We had our choice of seats - we chose to sit in the few seats available outside, since it was such a nice night. Our waitress was attentive and prompt with our service. We had crispy shrimp for an appetizer (very yummy!) and we all shared the rest of the food - eggplant and tofu, some sort of curried lamb, and 2 curry bbq chicken dishes (AMAZING) and rice. 4 dishes was exactly enough for 4 hungry overeaters. My husband and I have ordered from here several times now (it's in the 'hood), and it's pretty A-OK... It's definitely not the best Thai I've ever had, but it's good enough to keep ordering. There are plenty of vegetarian options (tofu or just veggies, no mock meats here) and the soups are spicy and will clear you out during cold season. The noodles and pad thai dishes are good, but unfortunately, the noodles are always overcooked (I find this in many restaurants, so it's not a huge shock), but the flavors rock. The curries are another reason this place gets 3 stars instead of 4, they are just HEAVY. If you have left overs and refrigerate, they will thicken to a firm solid. Ack. Of course curries should be rich, but this is a bit much for me -- and they always feel a bit skimpy, too little on the veggies already. Overall, I would recommend if you want take out in your 'hood, but I'm not sure that I'd make this a destination dinner. Very good Thai food, particularly for the area. We had Phad Thai, eggplant with black bean sauce, and a potato curry, all vegetarian, and were surprised by how delicious each were. I think maybe we've had one too many sub-par Thai meals lately. They also had some really good local beers on tap and the Thai Iced Thai was really tasty. The decor of the place is also very palatable, modern, but simple. We went at the end of a really warm day and the big windows were wide open letting in the cool evening air. Tangerine can earn it's extra star by losing the cash-only policy and training the wait staff. They weren't real bothersome; they just seemed really green; could use some basic training. read more

We don't live far at all (about 15 blocks) and yet the delivery food we got was awful. Egg rolls: Do not taste fresh, have that stringy/old texture, are very oily and the sauce is pointless (watery/sour/tasteless). Mee Krob: The noodles are fried and tasty, however the sauce is extremely thin, the veggies are awfully overcooked and the five shrimp are rubbery and small. Sticky Rice/Mango dessert: AWFUL. It's a gloppy, salty (?!) dense mess of what tastes like regular rice with sugar added, the sauce smells of fake/.cheap coconut and the mango was old/disintegrating. No black or white sesame seeds. Just awful. We had this dessert two days ago at Tawon Thai in Fremont and it was sublime! Delicate, sweet rice with lots of fresh mango in a heavenly coconut sauce garnished with toasted black and white sesame seeds - just amazing. This place - Tangerine Thai - is hit or miss, but seems to overcook the food way too often and the balance is always off. Maybe they are better in house, but there are too many clues that the food is just not worth it. I would have given this three stars, but seeing as they are still getting started, I think some of the issues I encountered will be solved quickly. Pros: -Serving sizes were not too big, yet not small enough that I felt the need for a second dinner -the food was generally very good, I liked the pad see ew, and all the veggies looked very fresh. -it's near me! -They can open up their big front window, which lets in a nice breeze. I'm sure that will make it popular in the summer. Cons: -I was in a group and we ordered family style. I don't know whether it was just our choices, but most things came out looking (and sometimes tasting) very similar. It was all good, but a bit monotonous. -Our waiter couldn't guarantee the food was free of MSG. -Although our food arrived fast after we ordered it, the service before that was pretty slow. They may just be a little understaffed right now, I couldn't tell. For a little neighborhood place they are pretty good, and I will probably walk over next time I have a craving for Thai food. However, if I lived further from Phinney, I doubt I'd go out of my way for it. read more

I was excited to see that they delivered and strayed from my usual place to try something new. MY BAD! The menu sounded great and the prices were average. I ordered the Tom Kha soup, Phad Thai and fresh spring rolls. Sadly, the only thing that was good was the spring rolls. I ordered all the dishes 3/4 stars and each of them tasted as if there wasn't even a hint of spice. The soup, which claims to have veggies, literally and I mean LITERALLY had mushrooms and chicken. I was expecting rice to come with the soup, but it didn't- which isn't the biggest deal but I was expecting this to feed two people and the container of soup was full enough for one large bowl of soup. The Phad Thai was soggy and also devoid of anything except mushy noodles and chicken. So, trying not to be passive aggressive I politely called the restaurant to talk to the manager and was shoved off the phone by two people before I said anything. TL;DR: As I look at $30 worth of food on my counter, and then took a bite, I was compelled to call the restaurant-it was that disappointing. There are much better places in the Ballard/Phinney to spend your money. Quality and serving size seriously lacking. read more

This is a cute little spot on Phinney, with a great wall that completely opens up on nice days. The food is good to very good. Unfortunately, that doesn't make up for the slooooooooooooow service. We were in there the other night, with only one other table, and it took over 40 minutes between ordering and food coming out. Went for dinner the other day, and had a great time. Food was good, service was a bit slow, however it was busy! Our server was very nice and comp'd us desert for being patient. We went here last week with 5 of our friends to get orders to go. Great interior, much nicer and not tacky like most other Thai restaurants I've been to. I ordered my standard Pad Thai with tofu and 4 stars. I thought it was great. My husband got chicken Pad Thai 3 stars (yes, we're original I know) and thought his could have had more flavor. Went in for the first time on a Sunday night and it wasnt too busy. Then within the hour or less, it filled up entirely. Much like what other people are saying, the service was somewhat slow the whole visit. However, I wasnt in a rush so it didnt really bother me. Ordered Yellow Pineapple Curry and it tasted delicious! The friend I was with got some other kind of Chicken dish and thought the same- they go here all the time and love it. Now the downfall---- I would give five stars except for the fact that by the next morning I had managed to get food poisoning. Bad food poisoning. My friend was fine, but I was definitely not. And yes I am sure that it was from the food at the restaurant. I would totally have gone back because the food was so good and the atmosphere was nice, but after getting sick from the food I most definitely will not. read more

We should have taken a hint by the complete lack of customers, but we figured that on a wintery Wednesday night we'd look past that. The ambiance was pleasant enough, but about fourteen bites in to our egg rolls, curry friend rice, and undercooked-vegetable-with-watery-sauce thing we were wishing we'd opted for whatever was next door. Watery-vegetable-thing was mostly flavorless. The curry friend rice, however, tasted like someone got confused and put maple syrup in the deep fryer and then accidentally left it there for a few days. It's hard to say how fresh the vegetables were since the sample size was rather small. The description should have said "curried rice with three slices of onion and broccoli garnish". After digging for a few minutes I did manage to find a pineapple chunk. Bonus! There were two redeeming qualities. One was the steamed white rice, the other was the very friendly service while we waited for our to-go order. Now we wait...are the rumblings in my lower intestines due to placebo after reading Matthew B.'s very graphic report, or a sign of an evening devoted to quality time with the toilet? I was pleasantly surprised by the location and setup of the restaurant. It was a hot day, so they had the big windows at the front open and it was pretty comfortable inside. There were several people working in the kitchen, but only one server for the rest of the restaurant. He seemed to have trouble keeping up, so they could benefit from some additional help. I was a little underwhelmed by the food, but compared to the other options in the area, it's a definite improvement. I ordered chicken satay, phad thai, red curry and cashew chicken. My favorite dish was the red curry, which they make with beef as well as some peanut sauce mixed in. With all things considered, I'd come back for delivery or quick take out. When I'm really craving thai, however, I'll make the drive down to Fremont. read more

Pretty bad meal here last week. I don't often write these reviews but for $45 after tip, I expected more. Pad See Eew was more like a soupy pile of raw noodles. Peanut sauce with veggies had a terrible sauce... like Jiff mixed with butter. All said, respectfully, this place needs a better offering to stay in business. This is the BEST Thai I have EVER had. Unreal. I've had maybe 20 Thai restaurants in Seattle and this is the one I've been waiting for. The interior is a lot better than most Thai places... No cheap decor. Garage door that opens for spring and summer dining. They need to update the exterior though - all it says is "Thai Food" and the phone number. The logo is really small. Consistently good. I've been quite a few times and have always left satisfied, with leftovers for lunch the next day. I brought my six year old daughter in with me this week and they were very accommodating to adjusting the dish to her liking. Usually I'm okay with it if the food is amazing or complicated, but pad thai is simple and quick to make. Apparently the delivery and takeout side of the business is slammin' and gets priority over in-house patrons, so if we were in the neighborhood, we'd probably opt for takeout. I ordered one of my ALL TIME favorite soups the Chicken Tom Kha and whoa... I thought that I had ordered the wrong thing until I looked at their menu afterwards and saw that they didn't really have any soup that even tasted like the one I got. It definitely was not Tom Kha. It didn't even have a hint of coconut taste to it, and wasn't creamy one bit.I asked for 3 stars and it was SOOO spicy that I couldn't taste much of any flavor besides that. It had some weird veggies in it too - and maybe like 4 tiny slices of chicken. The pad thai was bland bland bland!!!!!! seriously disappointed. My BF ordered the swimming rama (called something different on their menu) and the spinach was raw.. not even warmed. I've never been inside the actual restaurant, but I've ordered delivery from here a couple of times, and it's generally been a good experience. The personnel is always friendly and the food gets usually delivered way before the 30-minute estimate. As for the food, I usually make my judgment based on how well a restaurant does the most basic of dishes, Pad Thai. While this place's Pad Thai could use more tanginess and is generally nothing special, a bite of my boyfriend's customary Panang Curry really elevated my opinion of Tangerine's food. Finally another Thai place that delivers to our house! There are only 2 others that I can think of, and this one beats them by far! The food is delicious! Very fresh, not too greasy. Their star system means business -- we ordered once with all the stars, which is often dissapointingly mild at other places, and was pleasantly surprised -- i think I'll even knock off a star next time. The first time we ordered, there was some delivery problem that caused our food to take 2 hours to arrive (they didn't even call to tell us -- we had to call them twice). That was disappointing, but it seems to have been an isolated incident since delivery has been timely since them. The food is good but nothing special. We have only had takeout from Tangerine Thai so I can't speak about the in-house service but for take out the portion sizes are so meager. We have ordered from here quite a few times because it is close by and they deliver but I think this time is our last - there are too many good options in the neighborhood. This is our go-to Thai restaurant. It's really convenient and the wait staff is quite friendly with good recommendations for dishes. I also like the feeling in the place--clean lines, nice lighting, good decor. And did I mention the food is great? They do all the standard Thai dishes quite well, with good spice and fresh flavors. Our favorite is their beef salad, which is a dish I haven't seen on too many Thai menus and really is to die for. Such a great combination of tastes, done really well. Take out is also quite quick. Finally getting around to reviewing this place. It's pretty dang good. Get the Yellow Curry - you won't be disappointed. The only thing that bugs me is their spice level is all over the place - more so than other restaurants. Like you never know what you're going to get. Guess it depends who is back there! This place is the quintessential Thai food joint. If I need a pad thai fix, I put in a call for takeout and 20 minutes later I'm a happy camper. The pad thai is perfect--not too much sauce and just the right amounts of everything. It's two meal's worth for me, so I eat half for dinner and then get to look forward to lunch the next day at work as well! The curries are also delicious. And, the price is right. read more

A friend of my son's recommend this place - it's on Phinney Ave near Greenlake. Average Thai - nothing extraordinary - no one in the place at 9 on a Saturday night. What was extraordinary were the high prices (as compared the Thai we goto here in Bellevue), the small quantity of food and a plastic thing about in each long in my food.
