This place has the best wings I've ever eaten. Ever. Let me be clear I love wings and eat them all the time so this is basically my biggest compliment for a restaurant. They smoke them and then fry them so they have so much flavor and are crispy. I got the sauce on the side like I always do which helps them stay crisp. Historic building, good food, great service... what's not to like! THE SCENE Tannery Row Ale House was an accidental find. I was in one of those moods where I didn't know what I was in the mood for, thus drifted around the Mall of Georgia area. I drove in circles hoping one of the many restaurants would just call out to me, but none did. So finally, I pulled into old reliable Red Lobster's parking lot where the smell of BBQ caught my nose as I exited my car. I was totally dumbfounded because there is no BBQ restaurant (that I know of) close enough to the Mall to smell it cooking. Just then a couple walks out of Red Lobster and looks at me strangely as I sniff test the air hoping to figure out what direction that awesome smell was coming. So in an effort to not look so crazy I asked "Do you smell that? It smells like BBQ, but there is no BBQ joint near here, right?" To my delight, the guy did his own sniff test and confirmed he too smelled BBQ but thought it might be Macaroni Grill down the street. However, in one casual statement he set my course for lunch. "If you're looking for BBQ, Tannery Row in downtown Buford has amazing smoked wings!" As he said amazing, it was like he had an out of body experience in that moment and I was fully convinced this is where I must eat! THE EXPERIENCE What I didn't know was this place is set in an 1800's harness, horse collar and saddle making factory, thus the name Tannery. In 1903, a fire destroyed the Tannery, but it was rebuilt. By 1913, a shoe factory had begun operation. Over the years, a chrome factory was added and in 1968 much of the structure became a water treatment facility. Surprisingly, the saddle & harness portion of this historic building continued to operate until 1972. Entering into this space is pretty exciting. It is enormous, like a cool airport hangar with decorations and tables. I'm told they fill this place on the weekends with live music events, but it's hard to imagine such a large space in such a small town being filled to capacity. The restaurant is attached via a smaller building and has a patio that occupies a small section of the warehouse space, like having an outdoor patio inside a mall atrium. On this day, the bartender was also our server and made some great suggestions. We decided to order a buffet of appetizers instead of individual meals. Our meal included: Crab Bites (4.25 stars) | $7 Great little crab rounds about the size of a golf ball. They've got a little spicy kick with about 50/50 crab to filler. The sauce they serve with the crab bites is great! Don't miss it. Grouper Fingers (3.5 stars) | $9 My only real complaint here is I wish they would cut the fingers thicker. Grouper tastes better when it's thicker, in my opinion. Kinda like larger shrimp taste much better than smaller shrimp. 10 Wings - 5 BBQ / 5 Jerk (4.5 stars) | $10 The guy I met that directed me here wasn't kidding! The wings are GREAT. My sister and I came here for appetizers and a few cocktails. The place was clean and the atmosphere was super comfortable. The jalapeño grilled cheese sandwich is incredible. I wanted to come back and order food from here for all meals during our trip but I refrained (since I'll be moving here soon, but it was hard). Bar staff is insanely friendly and gave us a ton of recommendations on where else to go (we told them we wanted to check out the night scene in this area). Food came out in stages, and I am not talking about courses. First meal arrived at the table and 10 mins later waiting on the the other 3. 08/29/2021 so this is the update" we have been back 4 times and recent as last night. Mgt has opened the dance floor and rearranged tables. KUDOS loved by all as you can see how many were on the dance floor! Band X was there last night and we cannot say enough about them.. they are fantastic, fun and great musicians.. we have been following them for years! They had a magician " Joseph" walking around going to tables before the band.. he was amazing and very entertaining.. good to see them give him a break and yes he was very good! They were very busy last night and apparently did not have enough help. Yes we get it in this day and time of "help" .. Michael was our server and yes he was great but whew.. we think he had way to many tables. We had the pot roast dinner and bang bang shrimp.. very good . Some issues, bar drinks took some time the later in the evening and well sad to say we ordered additional mile high nachos waited 40 minutes and found out after several requests they were out.. it would have been nice if the kitchen staff told our server so we could have ordered something else. Overall they are trying hard and listen to what customers want.. We learned that they have live bands and the one we followed down in ATL (no longer going to ATL) was Band X , so we made reservations for 6/18/2021. We were told someone would call us and confirm our reservations for 4.. nope never done so we called on the way driving from the Canton Ga area. They could not find our reservation.. but Jasper took care of it again. Once we arrived they had to call Jasper over to find our reservation.. we were seated. We learned they were changing the menu and tonight it was on 4-5 pages of typed  paper.. okay we get it no problem.. especially during these times. One of us had the roast beef dinner with mashed potatoes and asparagus etc.. the dinner came out with no mashed potatoes and when asked it took 40 minutes for them to arrive well after the meal. The meal was just "ok" as it wasn't hot and well just "ok".  The strawberry chicken salads the rest of the party had were fantastic, fresh and tasty. So we travel all over USA for music, live bands and food.. please take this as constructive criticism.. you must find a way to have the area with more air condition or paddle fans to circulate the air.. the tables in front of the stage should be moved to the side area and the space in front of the stage should be more for those who want to dance vs cramming in between tables.. as you can see , people want live music, good food, and fun times.. but to be crammed in between tables dancing.. well please rethink this.     Once again we do understand that the "employee 'situation is terrible now.. but MGT must look at the food coming out, reservations are correct,  and that people are not sweating all night long dancing.. if you have live music. Will we be back .. YES without a doubt.. and yes I am positive these things will be corrected over time.. as they must be addressed for people to return. This place is awesome! They have a really decent menu, with a good variety too. I had the BBQ BLT and it was really good. Great on tap beer selection, but the beer menu doesn't have prices on it. The place is huge, and packed during college football games. The service was a little slow, as in it took 20 minutes for our actual waiter to greet us, so the hostess took our drink orders. The food service was on point, and so was the bar. I would come back, without hesitation. read more

Cheers to the best bartender/server in the state ,Ryan! I mean his service is consistent and his recommendations rock. 3 Bloody Mary lovers agree he makes them just right! Loaded Dice... Recently I attended a poker tournament, held by the name sake club owned establishment .. And .. I gotta say .. No Bueno. The service, decent at best. And not because it wasn't pleasant or rude, but the place is so huge that you hardly saw anyone. The menu, while broad, a little misleading and the food was not that pleasing. I ordered a loaded potato with BBQ added (see a true loaded potato below). Now, what I got was a well baked tater with a smatter of cheese and over sauced BBQ topped on. When I read BBQ loaded baked I expected more. I finished off my tourney both with an unsavory beat and even more so stale pecan pie. The pie itself was tasty, but to small and the pecans on top were chewy and a bit stale. I can't say that it was a bad experience because it wasn't, but it certainly falls short of being what one would expect from such a large kitchen. As far as the service goes, Our server, Veronica was attentive, helpful and provided outstanding service. For a casual place to eat, I was very impressed with the food. I tried their chicken wings, bbq beans and meat loaf. All 3 items were really good. In fact, the wings were some of the best wings I've eaten in a long time. Had an opportunity to dine at this establishment for dinner. Super cool vibe in an industrial building. Huge TVs and a stage for live music. I don't remember our servers name, but she was sweet and attentive. The soft pretzel is AMAZING. I am ruined from eating one anywhere else. This one was cooked so perfectly, soft inside and literally melts in your mouth. Our main courses were what stopped my 5th star. I really wanted some good brisket. My tacos barely had meat. Maybe 1 oz between the two tacos and it as mostly fat. The sauce and slaw was flavorful if only there was actual brisket on the tacos. My husband's burger looked amazing, but the meat was overcooked for his taste and dry. Again, just missed the mark with cooking time. The pecan pie we got on the house, because they were making a concession for tables near a small ceiling leak. That was great service. What nice place to watch a game! Tannery has two huge projection screens in an outer bar area that includes a stage for live music. There is also a bar and a family seating area. I heard that the owners plan on opening a brewery and make their own beer. I didn't eat much of the food as I wasn't feeling very well due to a cold and I didn't drink beer because I was on cold medication. I was visiting family and we went here to meet up with their friends before heading out to a show. The food I had (although the meds have made me forget what that was) was enjoyable. The atmosphere is great although Georgia lost to Auburn and most everyone there was in mourning. Didn't really affect me tho so I enjoyed the evening. read more

Tanner Row is such an awesome and unique experience! A restaurant in an old factory...who would have thought! They are always putting on movies and concerts for entertainment. Tannery Row has gone down hill. My wife and I went there tonight to grab a bite and watch the games. After all these years you would think they would change around the menu. As for the food it has really declined. I had the prime rib sandwich which was like dried shoe leather. How does someone put this on a plate and serve this garbage for $18. My wife also had some dried out tough wings which were all drum sticks and 2 flats. As for the service it sucks. We sat in the bar area and had to get up twice to get someone to take our food and drinks order. But they had 3 employees just standing in a group talking while we tried to wave them over. For the price and quality of this food we will not be returning. read more

I would give 3 starts for food. However, the service was so terrible I can't say I will be back. We had a party of 13 for my friend's birthday. First off, we had reservations and were quickly told by the manager himself that we did not. Our friend corrected him and he found the reservation. Waited 30 minutes to be seated and were seated near the speakers. When the live band started playing we asked to be moved to another section because it was too loud and we couldn't hear each other. We asked 3x (asked the manager, too) before we were moved to another section. Another server gave up his section for us and our server. The manager didn't do anything. It took an hour and a half for our food to arrive. An hour and a half. Our server was pleasant and apologized but did not provide an explanation. We could tell she was having a bad night. She comped some of our food and drinks. In addition, she gave us all a 25% discount for our experience. The food was decent and the drinks were alright. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough to salvage the night. It ruined my friend's birthday. Too bad, the place has so much potential. PS. My first time at this place last night. I won't return. The service was horrible. We waited over an hour for our food. When the food arrived, it came out in at different times. I received mine first - and was completed finished eating before the others receive Ed their food. Their and my food was warm at best. Service was horrible. Barely even saw our waiter. I get the issues with not enough people - etc etc - but if your service and food quality is going to be horrible - do us all a large favor and close until you can properly staff and organize your business. My son comes home tonight 3/23/19 and shared with me how he and his friends (4 black kids and 2 white kids )went to this establishment to celebrate a friends birthday.
