It is a very awkward place if you're looking to just grab lunch (which we were). There is no place to eat whatsoever so we had to eat in our cars. That's really not bad if you know that going there and that doesn't have any effect on my rating either. The food was meh at best. The brisket & tri tip were so very dry. My wife liked the chicken and the pulled pork but she likes things overcooked and the bbq sauce is pretty good. Their chili was really good imo, it is pretty spicy which I like. Service was fine (no complaints). The whole experience was just awkward and kinda weird. Unfortunately I probably won't be going back unless I hear things have improved. read more

As Simi Valley residents my partner and I try to support our local businesses first, but we will not return. Sides are definitely not made fresh every day. Mac & Cheese had zero flavor, crunchy old noodles and fell apart. BBQ beans were oddly sweet and very mushy. Coleslaw had zero seasoning, it was shredded cabbage and a watery mayo. I don't even know what those "pickles" were. Chopped chunks of cucumber. Potato salad was ok. Mac salad was honestly the only good side we tried. Meats were average and dry. I didn't care for the BBQ sauce. They were out of iced tea only an hour after opening which probably means they didn't have any to begin with. Zero desserts listed on the menu in stock (cobbler, banana pudding,etc.) but some gelato not even on the menu. Overall, it was an expensive, disappointing experience. read more

I'm not sure what food all of these 5 star reviewers got, but what we received today (2/1/2026 ordered at about 11:10am) was NOT it. We ordered a pound of brisket, pork ribs, pulled pork combo with baked beans and cole slaw, meat and beans cup (large) and a small cup of pickles. Where to start...the brisket was dry, lacked noticeable smoke flavor and had no real flavor. I lived in Texas for almost 20 years and I can assure you this would not pass muster in any bbq joint. The pulled pork was also dry and flavorless. We doused it in the included bbq sauce and NOPE, sauce was awful. We doctored it with our own seasoning and it was edible at best. The baked beans and the meat and beans were DISGUSTING. There was absolutely no flavor. I re-seasoned the meat and beans, which presented like chili, with a ton of seasonings. It was edible, actually pretty decent after I re-did it. The meat was still dry and chewy, but the flavor was much better. The beans were well cooked, firm and not mushy and overdone. The coleslaw seemed like someone bought a bag of pre-shredded coleslaw greens and dumped them on the plate. There was NO flavor of any kind and no mayo or vinaigrette to give any semblance of creaminess. Only salvaged because we added mayo and seasoning. The baked beans were gross. A weird sweetness. Just really not sure what they were going for here. The pickles were so tart and sour. Like they had been brined in just vinegar and jalapeño peppers. I salvaged them by adding some sugar to cut the vinegar. Ugh... The only thing that that we ate without turning it into a whole 'nother dish was the pork ribs. Those were well smoked, tender without being overdone. Nice flavor. We didn't even use any sauce. We're tempted to go back and give it another try because it seems crazy that almost everyone is giving this place 5 stars while we got $100 worth of crap. read more

Truly wanted to love this place. There aren't any great bbq places in Simi that are worthy of praise. I got the brisket combo with baked beans and mac cheese. The brisket was dry, not much flavor. The sauce was the bomb though, if I could just eat that, I would've been happy. The beans seemed like they came from a can and I'm pretty sure someone in elementary could make better mac and cheese. The service was efficient and friendly. The take out counter (no seating) was well decorated and clean. I'm not sure why this place got great reviews but to each their own. You have been advised. We finally have an authentic barbecue place in Simi. Drove by and saw they were open. Went back today and it was worth the wait. Amazing barbecue, from the flavors, to the quality of the meat, to the cooking itself. This is the type of barbecue that you don't need sauce. The sauce is great, but the way it's cooked it's melt in your mouth delicious. As the owner told us, "this isn't "fast" food. Order, wait and chill for a few minutes and enjoy the heck out of it. Located in a strip center, so lots of parking. Arrived around 3pm on a Saturday afternoon. There is chalk, menu board on the right. A counter where you order. This is a small place, takeout only as there are no chairs or tables inside. I ordered a pound of brisket, a pound of pulled pork 10 ounces of pork belly, a side of potato, and macaroni salad and chili beans. This place seems to be a one man show with a young girl taking orders and another young person helping in the kitchen. There was one customer waiting for their food, I ordered and there were 2 groups behind me. The food came out in a timely manner. Once home we were pleasantly surprised. The brisket was tender, had a smoke ring but it wasn't over smoked. The flavor was good. Would definitely order again. The pulled pork was good, slightly under seasoned but still tasty. The pork belly bites were burnt ends style. I loved them, my family thought they were okay. The chili beans were really good. That was my favorite side dish. The macaroni salad and red potato salad were okay but my family liked it better than I did. Overall a solid meal and we will comeback to try more dishes. read more

I called today, placed and order over the phone for pick up, when we got the food home we noticed there was no BBQ sauce. I called back and the girl who's answering the phone who took my order started making excuses as to why she didn't put the sauce in our order saying the food has been sitting on the counter ready to be picked up for over and hour and she forgot yo put in the bag. I told her that wasn't the case the order was placed , picked up and was home withing 45 mim. Then she said "I saw the sauce on the counter after your son left" I told her it was an inconvenience to go back for the sauce and her response was "if it's really bad big of a deal to be missing the sauce, I forgot" I immediately ask to speak for a supervisor or manager since she was so disrespectful and uprofessional. She said they're not there i asked her for their names which are Toni and Marvin, she diidn't know when any of them would be there so I can talk to them. We ordered brisket, trip tip,an and mac and cheese. The brisket was good, tri tip not the best, it was not tender, their Mac and cheese was good but their coleslaw it's flavorless. My husband went back for the sauce and this girl was laughing sarcastically about the issue instead of apologizing. We hope for someone to take the time to train their employees and provide good customer service since it's vital fot any successful business as well as improving the quality of food. read more

First time at Tapo St. BBQ. I figured I would get a sample of many things and see what was good and what is average and what is bad! First, I walked in...so did not do a phone order. The attendant was nice and I first introduced myself as a "first time" customer and asked about any "sampler" since it's not on the menu listed above. She replied, "yes, I have a meat sampler with two sides". So I ordered that. It's a Saturday afternoon and many people were coming and going out of this small place that is mostly take out. I was not told how long it would take but I saw people that ordered before me and people that ordered after me and of course people saying they phoned in an order and were waiting for pick up. So, after about twenty minutes I saw people that ordered after me picking up, but thought maybe it's just because I ordered something "not on menu" and off production so I would have to wait longer...no big deal. So, I get the order. One beef rib, two pork ribs, two chicken drumsticks, 5 pieces of Brisket and 4 pieces of TriTip along with two small sides of Mac&Cheese and BBQ Beans. Now the price was very reasonable for this platter with a lot of food. Easy to share for two people. Anyway, I was hungry and started in: The good: the Beef Rib was awesome with good bark, crust and flavor and tender off the bone meat and juicy! The only criticism would be too much pepper in my opinion. It came with BBQ sauce which I tried but did not need to drench the rib, it had flavor without adding a preponderance of sauce. The Pork Ribs were almost as good. Fall off the bone, tender, different "mop sauce" I could tell and not as much pepper also. The Brisket, was good to average? I think Gus's Brisket is a little better in my opinion and ZEF BBQ is better but definitely more expensive. With the sauce made it better by enhancing the flavor profile and again not to cover up any flaws like dry or over smoked. This Brisket is good. The Chicken Drumstick was cooked properly and not dry, good flavor but not anything spectacular. The TriTip was cooked just slightly over? Very light pink and on the verge of brown. The flavor was different of course from the Brisket, as it should but had large in cracked Peppercorns on it that really overpowered and needed to scrap off and use of sauce helped. So, the Sampler in my opinion was very good and for the price makes it even better!!! Highly recommend and as far as best of platter has to go to the Beef Rib. Now for the bad....and this is probably the only reason I did not rate 5 stars was the sides!! Terrible best describes....The Mac&Cheese...bad. No creamy cheese or cheese flavor. Slight orange I would assume Cheddar pieces but mostly Mac! A little salt did not help. Don't recommend the Mac&Cheese. Worse!!! The BBQ beans. I should have stopped when I saw the color. Light brown Pinto beans. No rich brown sauce not chunks of meat...just Beans like out of a can you buy at the market. No depth of flavor only a slight hint of sweetness but more like canned sugar liquified and added to the beans. I should have went with my first choice of Pickles which I was told are Jalapeño house made Pickles! That would have been perfect with some acid and heat to add to the well cooked and smoked meat! To answer your question of would I go back! Definitely! But not those sides unless they plan and making some much needed adjustments. I might try again but add more Beef ribs and delete the Chicken and maybe if they have Pulled Pork try that instead with the pickles! Go try them out. They are new and in Simi Valley....restaurants are needed and especially good ones! This is far and away better than Red's BBQ and also better than Cork and Barrel but if you want sit down BBQ place Cork and Barrel would be the choice. read more

My wife and I decided to come out and Tapo St barbecue after seeing it all over social media and I must say I am extremely impressed with the quality of service, the quality of the food and the quality of cleanliness of the restaurant.
