OK y'all....i'm an EXTREMELY picky eater. (Hence only a few reviews lol). My husband and I were looking for something for lunch as we were both a bit hungry. While hubby was on Postmates, he came across Tapo St BBQ. He asked about it and I mentioned that I've heard about this restaurant and it had some good reviews so far. So, we went ahead and ordered it. My husband ordered 1 lb of tri -trip n 1 lb of Brisket....with a side of Chili Beans. (And some peach cobbler). First off....the brisket was to die for . The smokiness taste was so good. The look of the meat was beautiful. The Tri-tip was great as well....but that Brisket knocked me off my feet! I did not try the chili beans, but my husband mentioned that it was pretty good! The meat in my opinion was very tasty, moist in just the right way and melted in my mouth. The only thing that was missing was the peach cobbler that we ordered but did not receive. (Probably just an oversight..which happens.) When my husband mentioned that he would really like to get this again, I wholeheartedly agreed! You have just gotten a new family as a customer Tapo St BBQ! We can't WAIT to try everything on your menu (but I'll definitely be getting more brisket!!! *I really can't wait!!!!*) If you're looking for some great BBQ, check this place out y'all. We really wanted to like this place. We have seen a few of the Instagrams, and the advertising looked fantastic. Tony was nice enough. 80 bucks later, we ordered some pork ribs, pulled pork sandwich, mac & cheese, pickles, and tri-tip. None of the meat had any smoked flavor, and was mostly overcooked. The tri-tip was gray and seemingly seasoned with pepper. The mac & cheese was coagulated and had no flavor whatsoever. It tasted like glue. The pickles were oddly sweet. The pork rib ribs were the best dish, but again no smoke whatsoever. Pulled pork sandwich again had no flavor or smoke. The coleslaw tasted like chopped up lettuce, no flavor. People will come the first time, but not return. I'm all for a family run business and want to support those, but for those prices, the product needs to be much better. read more

I was looking for something new here in Simi a few weeks ago and found this place here on Yelp. So, I went the next day (Wednesday) only to discover that they're only open Thursday - Sunday. Oops! Went back the next day and scored some BBQ. Marvin was working out front and was very engaging and just generally cheerful. I got a Pork Rib combo with Chili beans and Cole Slaw and every bit of it was amazing, except when I discovered that my wife had tossed the leftovers prematurely while cleaning out the fridge! I was ticked. I made up for it by going back today. This time, I also got a Pork Rib plate with Chili Beans and Cole Slaw sides, but also added a 1/4 lb of Brisket and Macaroni salad as add-ons. So far, even though I've only been twice, the food has been top shelf. Perfectly cooked, nicely spiced and consistent between visits. If anything, the Brisket today may have been even better than my first go around. As one of the posters in this thread said, "the Brisket, just get it". They do a great job. It's got a nice smoke ring, but isn't over the top. The Ribs are also great. While not falling off the bone, they are tender and tasty. The sides have all been awesome. I love that the Cole Slaw isn't overly sweet, but just has a hint of sweetness. The house made Bread and Butter pickles are the bomb! They slide a bit of Jalapeno in to keep them really interesting. My wife hates all Bread and Butter pickles and while these aren't overly sweet like some, she hated them as well. If it's not very much a Dill pickle, she's out! The standout for me was the Chili beans. OMG! They could certainly be a meal all on their own. I may try that with a side of them and some Cole Slaw at some time in the future. The first time I went, I got the Chili beans as they'd been mentioned in this thread. I was amazed at how much meat was in the beans, but I couldn't quite put my finger on what it was other than tasty. I asked Marvin today and he replied that they use Brisket, Tri Tip and Ribs in their Chili beans. Wow! I'll also note that as far as BBQ places go, it was a great value. BBQ is always expensive these days, but a combo meal and two add-ons were more than enough for a great meal for my wife and I. It's nice that we finally have some real BBQ options in Simi. Zef is cool, but not readily available. Cork & Batter raised the bar when it opened and was clearly a step up from Red's. If you want to have a traditional restaurant experience with servers and a bar, Cork & Batter is great, but if you're really all about quality BBQ and are OK with takeout, Tapo Street BBQ is the top of the heap in my opinion. Huge disappointment drove home questioning my entire life choices. Mac and cheese was flavorless I've had better Mac and cheese on a navy ships galley. The beans don't bother you are better off eating bushes baked beans straight from the can COLD! The brisket was lacking flavor and dry but it was still kinda soft so yeah I guess it could've been worse. Had an ice cold DC (Diet Coke) but for some reason the agua fresca was served lukewarm and without any ice. Service did not reflect the tasteless food, no seating so you will eat this alone in your 97 ford ranger without A/C and you will be sad. Ice cream was good. read more

I made it a point to try this place for a while and today April 3rd 2026 was that day, I was really excited because of what I had seen on social media regarding the beef ribs, the pork belly burnt bits as well as other items on the menu on line and all the positive reviews, however my emotions changed from excited to disappointed when my first question could not be answered without checking with whoever was in the kitchen, on the menu at the location there is multiple combo options, one in particular being a half chicken with 2 sides and a drink, I asked if they offered a whole chicken but the young lady said that the combo was served with just a chicken breast 2 sides and a drink, at first I thought it was a mistake but she said she would check and came back and said that they only served the breast and that was considered a half chicken, then I asked about the pork belly because it dosnt appear on the menu but apparently it is available and the ribs are nothing like they appear on the social media video. The one good praise i can give this place is that I walked in to place my order and after all my disappointment my food was ready in less then 10 minutes. Im not sure if I was just unlucky because of it being good Friday or what have you, but im sure I will not be going back due to the differencein the online menu and the actual menu, false advertisement regarding the chicken and lack of knowledge on behalf of the attendance!!! read more

Great BBQ meats served here. Have tried everything but the ribs. Great flavor and delicious. However, you advertise a 1/2 chicken combo meal. Definition of a half chicken is 1 leg, 1 wing, 1 thigh and 1 breast. In the three chicken combo meals I have bought I only received 3 pieces of chicken each. And not one chicken breast. If you just serve 3 pieces of chicken, drop the 1/2 chicken combo meal and advertise "Chicken combo meal". Thank you. read more

We had tried to go to Tapo St BBQ previously, but unfortunately, we arrived about an hour before closing, and they had already sold out. We came back today, just after opening, to try it out. We got three tri-tip sandwiches, a brisket sandwich, and a side of potato salad. It took about ten minutes to get our food, not long at all. Unfortunately, there is no seating available at the restaurant, so everything is to-go. The food was excellent, tender and flavorful meat, and soft, tasty buns. The potato salad was very saucy, which is not something I enjoy, but my husband liked it. The pickles were pretty tasty and spicy. The BBQ sauce complemented the flavor of the meat without overpowering it. I'm definitely interested in going again and trying other sides as well, including the mac and cheese that's not currently available. It would be great if there were a bench to sit on while you wait for to-go orders. read more

Already the best BBQ in town! I first tried a combo plate of a pork ribs and brisket. It was phenomenal. The pork ribs are my favorite. Great flavor and very tender. I liked it so much I ordered a large plate of barbecue for a gathering I was having. A large plate was $120 and contained a mix of all their best barbecue and 4 sides. It was a great value as it fed 10 people. The barbecue was a huge hit at the gathering. People raved about it. The tri-tip was very popular. The staff are friendly and helpful. I can't even begin to say how amazing this food is! We just got home to enjoy the food for the first time. We got half a rack of beef ribs and half of pork ribs with their Mac n cheese. You can taste the smoke but in a delicious way when you take a bite it's also fall off the bone not dry just juicy meat with amazing tasting bbq sauce also they make their own pickles daily and they are the best pickles I ever had. They have this amazing flavor and kick to them. This place just found new forever customers. The service was great the ambiance smelled amazing and welcoming. I highly recommend best place around!
