Really disappointing experience. We parked in the shopping center parking lot because we were planning to eat at this restaurant. Before eating, we needed to quickly run an errand at a store across the street that would have taken no more than five minutes. As we were leaving the shopping center parking lot to walk across the street, one of the employees came outside and yelled at us that we couldn't park there. We had every intention of eating at the restaurant and were only stepping away for a few minutes to take care of a quick errand. There was absolutely no reason to speak to us that way, especially when we were already planning on being customers. The way we were approached was extremely rude and immediately made us feel unwelcome. Unfortunately, the experience didn't get any better. The tables were dirty, the service was extremely poor, and the food itself was not good. Overall, there was nothing about the experience that made us want to come back. I understand having parking rules for a shopping center, but there is a respectful way to communicate that to customers. Being yelled at as we were walking out was completely unnecessary. I recently started working in downtown Redmond and asked around for good local Mexican food -- everyone pointed me to Taqueria Gallo, and I'm so glad I came! Horrible meal and it made me sick! I seriously got food poisoning. Finally recovered after a few days. I ordered a super chicken burrito and it was not good. Chicken had a weird taste, tortilla was rubbery and the salsa had a bite. Maybe that's what made me sick. I was craving good Mexican food and this was by far a really bad experience. THE WORST! If a friend excessively recommends a restaurant during a car trip near midnight, you might want to check it out. So I decided to check out Taqueria EL Gallo. I never heard of it before until my friend raved about it as a local Redmondite I never heard of this place until that glowing review. I think in part because it is sort of "hidden" next to the Concentra Urgent Care in the area (one block away from Farine/across the street from Kanishka) In terms of inside the feel of the restaurant is more down to earth. A friend said that the food and place feels like something their grandparents would make and I totally get it. I had an idea of some of their items through their website, it is different seeing it in person. Some items were weekend only specials like Birria but listed elsewhere on the site. Some items were guided by pictures on the overhead menu. One thing I appreciated were that some items were translated (ex: lengua as tongue) just in case someone didn't know what they were. I think it was especially great in their case because they listed tacos that are not regularly offered everywhere (lengua, cabeza, tripa, etc,) Because I was in a rush I chose 2 carne asada in the 2 tacos special (2 tacos, rice and beans for 9.99) and two additional tacos of lengua and carnitas. Funny enough another glowing recommendation of the food came from the Lyft driver who took me home from the restaurant since I had to rush home. He mentioned how he was a fan of the food. Overall, the food was pretty good. I think the lengua was my favorite of the tacos I had to eat (I have to double check with another bite though). As someone who grew up in San Diego, I knew in my heart that this was probably going to be a bad idea but I hoped. I should have properly read the reviews to know not to order a burrito here. I ordered the San Diego Burrito and picked up. Now when I got my order it was thin, but I was optimistic. However that optimism died with just one bite. I knew it wasn't going to go uphill from here. This burrito is so unbelievably thin and underfilled. The only filling was essentially meat. In their defense that is what the description does say it has butttt to call it a San Diego Burrito hurts my soul. I've never ordered a burrito in San Diego like this or in general. Flavor was decent at least but for how much you're paying for it, this is a skip to me. I honestly would advocate Chipotle as a better deal if you want a burrito. read more

Very good food! If you walk into a taqueria and it's full of Hispanic people who look at you when you order because you are the only one speaking English, you've probably come to the right taqueria! A good basic litmus for any ethnic restaurant, I'd say...if you see no Chinese eating in the Chinese restaurant you just entered, for instance, you'd best chose another Chinese restaurant! The hallmark of any good restaurant, but especially Mexican and South American style joints is the care they take to cook their proteins, and here at Taqueria Gallo the pride and authenticity is there in every bite! We got a lengua (beef tongue) burrito, cabeza (head meat) tacos, and a bowl of pazole (hominy, pork and red chile soup). Fantastic! The lengua was succulent, cooked perfectly to a soft mouth-feel, and the beans were not over-cooked as they so often are. The cabeza was downright unctuous, an apparent confit-style preparation just oozing fat but not so much as to swamp the taco. And the pazole...oh my, I'll be dreaming of this pazole on cold, wet days to come...was honest and delicious, a mild red chile broth full of hominy, with a pork knuckle (you read that right!) swimming in it! Or more accurately falling apart in it, the skin and tendon melting away from the bones (which you need to watch for as you eat) leaving tender bits of pork in its wake...served with fresh onion and cilantro and lime on the side so you can adjust to your taste. If they served none of the other brilliant meats and dishes here, I'd still be back for this heart-warming soup! And we've only scratched the surface! They serve a number of shrimp and chicken dishes too, including a crab leg soup the likes of which I have never seen before on a menu! Much to explore here, if you're the curious type. Look for updates on this gem in the future! Some cleanliness issues in the dining room and wear-and-tear type maintenance that needs to be addressed, hence the missing star, but much of those problems are due to the great popularity of this place, especially at lunch time. Enthusiastically recommended for anyone who values authentic flavors and eschews vile, chain-store Americanized Azteca cheese-puddles, and don't-think-just-eat, "run to the bathroom not to the border" fast food experiences. read more

Salsa was quite tasty. Would have loved more of it with my to-go order. Super burrito was quite small and stretched with rice. They could have doubled the amount of filling in this burrito. Really low filling to tortilla ratio. I would have liked to have fresh vegetables in the burrito. A generous amount of lettuce, tomato, cilantro, onion, avocado chunks, salsa, and sour cream goes a long way to brighten up an otherwise heavy burrito with meat, beans, and rice. I expect a super burrito to be a full party in my mouth, and this burrito didn't deliver. Was boring even compared to a "regular" burrito. I wish this burrito was more memorable than it was. This is one of my favorite Mexican restaurants in the Seattle area! I usually get the three tacos plate which come with rice and refried beans. You can choose your meat of choice for the tacos and all of the options I've tried so far have been delicious. My husband usually gets their burrito which is also quite good. We typically order online and it's usually ready by the time we get their in 10-15 minutes. I wish we still lived close to Taqueria El Gallo so that I can come here more often but I try to come whenever I'm in Redmond. read more
