Update/ April 29, 2026/Well, we went back today for the same burritos. They're definitely more than they used to be the breakfast special burritos at 6:30 AM. They were like 7 1/2 dollars a piece now but what really surprised me was they are about half the size as before! These things used to be the size of small dachshunds and now for 7 1/2 dollars for a special burrito they are much smaller. Admitted I grabbed the bag. I was like wait a second. ..I thought maybe she made a mistake so I called the restaurant and she said that regarding the breakfast specials these are no longer jumbo burritos and said that they changed and went to a normal size burrito ...so not sure we're gonna go back ...Pretty odd that you change from a super sized jumbo burrito which we had had probably eight times before to something half the size (for the same price will actually for more because they used to be $5.24 )I'll even include a photo but they're still really good people and a great restaurant chain. Just the breakfast Special burritos is no longer what it used to be. Because it's a 'breakfast special' only for a limited time in the morning if I were them, I would've kept it as a jumbo. You don't start changing things on people. It's like going to Domino's to get a large pizza and they give you a medium. And it's not because eggs are expensive anymore. Felt like eating some Mexican chile rellenos and was in Bellevue. I stopped in to pick up a takeout order. I got ripped off today. When i got home i was suppose to have a side order of 2 chili rellenos which should have included 2 stuffed chilis with cheese plus sone salsa and lettuce. Instead i got only 1 regular chilli stuffed with cheese and just one small chili with no cheese! If i ever go back to this restaurant ( and i may not!) i will definitely open the container to MAKE SURE i got what i ordered and paid for! (A minor disclaimer, I went with a huge cravings for carne asada fries and adobada tacos) I've had this place pinned for some time, and I finally ventured out to try it! I had been craving carne asada fries and adobada tacos that I would get every time I'm in LA, so my expectations were pretty high. The food: I ordered adobada tacos, but they were out of adobada, so I ordered Carnitas tacos. The meat was super tender, huge, I mean HUGE portion for the price, but it wasn't the adobada I wanted :( And I also ordered the carne asada fries. The flavor was there, the portion is great, the meat is tender, but the fries were sooo undercooked. I mean it was just barely pasted cooked. All mush, no texture; with the cheese, sour cream, and guac I needed the fries to be crunchy. Next time I will ask for the fries to be well fried. The soggy fries with wet stuff on top was not it. My husband ordered the California burrito but he said it wasn't enough meat. The sauce bar, like many have mentioned, it is amazing. The selection and the extra condiments, I love being able to customize my entree and give it an extra kick. The inside is spacious, clean, nothing extra or fancy about it and that's exactly what I want from "fast food Mexican restaurant". There's even a drive-thru! How great is that, rainy day? Lazy night? Was in Bellevue for work and decided to eat here for dinner. It reminded me of a chain where I live in Sacramento. I tried a fish taco and the super nachos. Both were great. Flavorful and filling. Friendly staff--you will always feel like a valued customer. The restaurant doesn't feel new, a that's absolutely fine because the bet places to eat at not flashy. We got bacon breakfast burritos and a side of "Mexican salsa". The burritos were fine, but nothing we would pay money for again. They did not arrive with any salsas, except for the 5 dollar mexican salsa side we ordered (which was old looking pico). This type of burrito is so bland to not have any salsas, and it is advertised. I even asked the lady before ordering what kind of potato the use and she said roasted/fried fresh potato's. This is the absolute last time. Owner, you need to get a handle on this. This place is a perfect fit for me. I've always loved Mexican food, and with my insomnia, I love a place that's always open. I'm not much on combo plates, so I have focused on taquitos, burritos, and tortas, and they have never let me down. I have been there at some really odd hours. After Christmas, after Easter, 2am on a craving, and it's still always good. I'm a big fan of breakfast burritos, especially ones with potato. Excellent. Then I've had most of the regular burritos. Great, but I especially like the Adobada. Very unique flavor. And the burritos aren't the kind where you bite into two inches of tortilla first. They are packed full. The tortas use a kind of bread that I've never had before, and it's really good. My only warning on tortas is don't eat them in the car, and give them room. They tend to spill out, so just use a plate, and a knife and fork. Great flavor though. Great staff who get the orders out pretty quickly. Like I said, this place just hits the spot for me read more

Second cancelled order this month...Was through door dash. Dasher waited for the two burritos for 20 mins before it was cancelled without a reason by CMF at like 1pm... Dasher even complained since they lost their tip and wasted a half hour. The quality was never anything special but their sizes made it worth it. But now having 2 of 4 orders randomly cancelled on me in the last month, this place just isn't reliable and I'm happy to look for food from a place that actually follows through. California Mexican food restaurant is surprise for me. I went casually with my friend to get Togo for him. I tried the salad samples. They were really spicy and i am spicy lover. Beef burrito, beef and cheese enchilada are excellent. A must try for Mexican food lover. And if you are spicy lover this is the go to restaurant. The taquitos were not good. I still love their location, you can read my previous review about it but I have to drop my score because they keep doing this annoying thing at the drive thru window. Why are you giving me a clipboard to sign in the drive thru window? All I see is a last ditch attempt to shove that tip line in my face one last time in hopes that I would give extra money. PLEASE I don't want to touch this clipboard and pen that everyone has been using, I know you're not wiping it down. Beyond that, I just want the ease of handing you my credit card and getting it back just like every other fast food drive thru. I would rather have you raise your prices by a few dollars than attempt to get tip from me for going through the drive thru. At that point I would probably not come as often either though because one of the reasons I come here so often is because the prices are unbeatable, but I'd rather come occasionally than leave every time knowing the restaurant desperately wanted another few bucks from me. Overall I'd say my experience is a 3-3.5/5. I ordered and only went in the drive thru. I ordered the pictured three items and it's a lot of food for $20. That's a plus. These soft tacos are loaded and have a lot of meat, including the shrimp. Burrito: carne asada burrito was ok the main issue I had is the carne asada was very dry and didn't seem to have much stand alone flavor. I really liked the way the tortilla and burrito was grilled though. It was fairly good in size and portion as well. 2.5/5 Shrimp taco: flavorful rice and lots of shrimp and it's huge for the price. The shrimp is a little dry but has good flavor. I think this is a strong item to get for a fast casual sort of shrimp taco. Cheese is melted well. Tortillas have a nice cook/char as well. 3.8/5 Adobada: lots of meat, fresh guacamole. Meat again is a little dry. Flavor is just ok. Give it a 3/5 Sauces: tried all three of the sauces they offer. Habanero sauce is flavorful but super spicy obviously. I enjoyed it as a secondary sauce. Add a drop or so every other bite with the green and red sauce. If you like heat, get the habanero! Overall it's a mid/slightly above mid food for price and amount. Service was good. read more

I like that they are open 24 hours a day, have yummy flan, and options for vegetarians and vegans. I work graveyard shift and I'm also usually awake at night on my days off, as well. There's not much open at night, so I would say that's the biggest thing they've got going for them! With that said, I'm only giving 3 stars because this place is really not very good. At first I thought it was decent enough, but I've been increasingly disappointed with each order. The vegetarian burrito is huge but nothing that special. The vegan burrito is slightly more money because it's supposed to come with guacamole. When I ordered the vegan burrito it had only 3 ingredients!! (Beans, rice, lettuce. NO guacamole OR salsa.) I don't know if that is normal, but I'm not feeling like I want to chance it again. It was so dry and bland I could only eat half of it. This would be three stars but given the bold claim that it's "California Mexican Food" and I am a bona fide born & bred Los Angelino you'd best be delivering the goods to call yourself that. Sadly, they do not. I tried a Carne Asada burrito, some cheese enchiladas, and a beef taco, and all three of them were very underwhelming in flavors in the manner than only the PNW can truly accomplish. In some ways eating food from here was sentimental given that the availability of higher quality Mexican American eats (Tacos Chukis, D' La Santa, Jackolope... just to name a few) has been improving dramatically in the last ten years in Seattle -this definitely was a throwback to bland disasters I tried when I first moved up in the late 2000s. If you have to choose between this and Taco Time then sure. But personally I think I'd even drive a block or two down the road to Taco Bell instead of eat here. YEAH I SAID IT! read more

The employees are hard working and the food so far is a 3.3 Stars to me from the little tasted so far. Its the low prices, above avg food, and hard working employees that merit 4 Stars from me. Want to come back and try the breakfast burritos for sure. Came during the 20 degree weather and there is no heat in the place! WTH CMF?! There was one couple eating here and they were full eskimo'ed out with ear muffs and everything as if they were on a quasi Antarctic experience. This is what I mean though, the employees here are hard working and ALSO dressed like they are in the cold vast darkness of space. As a result, the food was not as hot as preferred, somehow still warm, but not hot. The quality of the food was above average and can't wait for warmer days to try again. The star thus far though is the Carne Asada Fries, hope you like the photo. When I think of Carne Asada, I want some fat with it, and there are some pieces with fat on it and that is much appreciated. You get a good chunk of meat and fries with some cheese, and avocado. It was a tad overly salty though, but nothing a nice cold Pepsi couldn't cut through. This is one of them dishes that is basically a must order in addition to what you're going to be ordering. Now to be clear, again, none of the food is blow your socks off, its just good, and the price of everything is low. The first time we went the food was good- had tacos. Tonight we tried the carne asada fries and it was very disappointing. The carne was tasty and the cheese and toppings were generous but the fries below were barely cooked and soggy. Will probably give it another go with a request to make the fries well done, or just stick with tacos. read more

Being a California native and a lover of breakfast burritos, I have to say that this place nailed the Chorizo breakfast burrito (double whammy that it comes with beans already- most places here make you add it and charge you for it). Their salsa bar reminds me of those CA taco stands where you can help yourself to any available. Loved a few of them, but definitely loved the avocado verde salsa. The vibe was like any other taco shop with lots of seating. We were there late at night so a few unhoused people were there, but they didn't bother anyone. The staff was fine while taking my order and they were quick. My husband got the California burrito and I don't think he was as fond of it, solely because it comes with avocado sauce and not guacamole. I will forever be a patron of this drive thru! I usually grab a bacon, egg, potato & cheese burrito but I've had the carne asada fries, nachos, and a taco salad with beef. I always grab a jamaica. It's not super quick but it's always worth the wait and is more cost effective than traditional fast foods. I haven't been inside just through the drive thru but it always looks clean & someone is always cleaning areas from when I peak in. I didn't care for the beef 100% in the taco salad but it did the job with the piled on veggies. That's one thing that I enjoy is they will pack you down with the food you order. read more

I went once and not going back again for the reason of me knowing what a good Mexican food is. I went in the first week they opened their Bellvue location and they were all over the place. They messed up the orders big time. I felt so bad for the manager as she was trying to fix and correct the mistakes. One of the cashiers as well was trying so hard to fix the other cashier's mistakes just to avoid the aftermath but she was overwhelmed as well with her cashier. So I have nothing bad to say at all. I first visited this establishment during their grand opening in Bellevue back in 2022. Since then, it has become my go-to place for food past midnight. I was also a fan of iHop but as of last week, they have closed for health violations. The inside is not the coziest (pretty cold) but I think it is the lack of temperature regulation that they are able to keep their costs low. I wouldn't choose to come here for a normal meal during the day but if you are out and about with friends past midnight, this is the spot. California Mexican Food reminds me of the casual eatery spots that I'd visit in the southwest for some filling, affordable Mexican food. I was happy to see that it's made a home in the Bel-Red area as it took over a former Burger King. Win-win. I visited California Mexican Food for takeout and decided to go inside to check out the place and stock up on salsas from the salsa bar. There is a drive-thru option though, which many seemed to use when I was visiting. There were also a few patrons dining in. If you're in a hurry for takeout, I recommend calling in and placing an order as it was busy during the dinner hour. We ordered the carne asada plate, the super nachos and the carne asada taco, the fish taco and the carnitas taco. The menu is large, with a lot of burrito, taco, combo plates and beyond options. However, there were some items that they don't have that you may find elsewhere, like pork chile or barbacoa, but I guess that's why it's called California Mexican Food. It's Americanized AKA there's sour cream on just about everything here. I don't hate it. It took about 20 minutes for my order to be ready. It's made upon order, which I appreciated. But again if you're in a hurry during a prime meal hour, order ahead. We enjoyed mostly everything! Portions were gigantic. We didn't anticipate such huge portions, so we ended up having leftovers/a second meal. Of all the tacos, I liked the carne asada the most and then the carnitas. I didn't like the fish taco that much as the batter was super thick, so I tasted mostly that instead of the fish. Plus, it was drenched in ranch and salsa, so I really couldn't taste what should've been the star of the show, the fish. Skip it. Carne asada plate came with tortillas, rice, beans, lettuce and tomatoes to top off tacos, in addition to whatever you grab from the salsa bar. Meat was flavorful and tender. Super nachos included all the fixin's, with steak, guac, sour cream, cheese and beans. This one is definitely worth sharing. And it's tasty! Given how large the menu is, I'd come back to try other items, like the California-inspired burritos with french fries in it because who doesn't dig that? I've eaten here a few times already and I can finally say that this place is theeeee perfect place to go when you are craving at 12am in the morning. My husband and I are night owls so we're awake until 3am sometimes. During that time we get super hungry or really crave something yummy. Our favorite here is the carne asada fries and the fish tacos. The fries are loaded with meat, cheese, guacamole, and sour cream. They also have 3 different types of sauce. Very good mexican food with massive portions and fair prices. Open 24/7 and very clean inside. The steak items were delicious - very juicy - and could easily feed two on their own. Selection of sauces is great as well - so many to choose from! Be careful with the orange one or you'll need a horchata to keep yourself alive. Very similar to Me. G's, my favorite place to eat in Yuma, AZ. Lots of food for the price, but most importantly, YUMMMMMMMM!!!! The loaded taquitos and chile rellenos are excellent and OMG the shrimp platter is hella delicious! This place is just perfect for me. I seem to go late at night, and after holidays like Christmas and Thanksgiving. I love that they're open all the time. The taquitos have been good every time, and I've never missed yet with the burritos. I've tried most of the breakfast burritos and I'm making my way through the other section. I just tried the Adobada, and it's my new favorite. The Jumbo soft tacos have been very good, and the tortas use a kind of bread that tastes amazing.
