We've always loved ordering delivery from Tarrants west. Last night I was a little disappointed with my meal. I ordered the fish tacos which I've had many times and they've always been delicious. I did request that cheese and guacamole be on the side, the menu description said it included beans and rice and it also required me to add a side which I added fresh vegetables. No guacamole was in the order and the cheese was already melted with in the tortilla and I did not receive any beans and or rice. The fresh vegetable side green beans were very tasty. Spouses dinner was good as well he ordered the mahi sandwich with rice there was no mayo for his sandwich otherwise he was very happy. read more

First of all I want to say the waitress was excellent. She was attentive and provided great service. I had fish and chips. For $22.95 I had 3 mediocre strips. They were bland with no seasoning. The Cole slaw was good but the fries were ice cold. Waitress brought fresh hot ones. Kitchen needs to do a better job. Wife had a good meal except mixed vegetables were ice cold. Sent them back. Ice cold the 2nd time. 3.rd time was the charm. Piping hot. It's as if they put all the sides on a plate, and put it under a heat lamp while they prepare the entree. We went to Tarrant's West for Valentine's day. The service was OK, but the food was very poor. My flounder was very hot, but my couscous, which was not entirely cooked through, and veggies were absolutely cold. Their garlic bread was not worth the calories as it was tasteless, as the herbs and spices seemed old. The garlic bread was also very cold and tasted stale. The Crabmeat under my flounder contained pieces of shell. The HVAC was blowing on us, so we needed to change tables. Not a great way to entice a person to come back, which we will not be doing. I went to Tarrants West for dinner a couple of days ago for dinner. I have been here before a couple of times for brunch and always enjoyed it. I decided to give it a try for dinner . We had a order of calamari for a appetizer.They where good nothing spectacular but still very good. One thing i found odd was that the calamari came with soy sauce. To me that made them a little salty. Im glad it was on the side. For my entree i decided to get a club sandwich and fries. The sandwich was very good and had good flavor. They definitely used quality cuts of meat on it. The fries on the other hand where amazing! They where crinkle cuts that where seasoned very well and had a great crisp to them. For desert we had mini cannolis with strawberries. The cannonlis we very tasty however they where pretty hard and our waiter just gave us spoons to eat them lol. read more

I don't know what happened to this place, but all of my favorite dishes have been either taken off the menu or the recipe has changed for the worse. The nice variety of salads and calzones are no longer offered on the menu. The seafood cannelloni used to be my favorite dish, now it's bland and tastes like hospital food. This place is tucked away off Three Chopt Rd, I never knew it was back there but wanted to try it out. The service was good, the lady who greeted us at the door was working double positions, and also seated us and took out order. While she was clearly doing three peoples job, she kept a friendly attitude and was very helpful and knowledgeable of the menu. I ordered an appetizer that was a crab and spinach dip that came with pita and flat breads. (It was way more dip that there was breads to dip in it, they need more bread provided or less dip) I also tried a sangria cocktail that was delicious but needed some cut up fruit in it. Entrees - I chose the mahi mahi fish tacos because I heard they were the best and they were very good. Perfectly cooked,and very tasty. (It was even better with some of the crab & spinach dip on it) This came with a side of rice and beans, but I substituted for sweet potato fries. That was a mistake because they didn't go well with the tacos. They had cinnamon and sugar on them and tasted like dessert so it threw off my taste buds a little. My daughter ordered the manicotti, it was good, but was very busy to look at. She a picky eater and didnt finish it, but my other daughter took care of that! The best part about the entire experience is that our waitress was friendly, informative, and gave outstanding advice when we were stuck between two different items on the menu. The ambiance was pleasant and private, and the restaurant was clean and felt both professional and casual. I'll also say that the food was delivered in a very timely manner and was freshly-prepared. My husband and i took our daughter out to dinner at Tarrant's West as it was close to her new apartment. I had high expectations based upon some good reviews; however, our dinner did not turn out that way. The crab cake appetizer exceeded expectations, but the fish and chips were not very good, and the seafood canaloni dish came out cool, and did not have much sauce or taste to it. Our entrees were delivered right after receiving our appetizer, so did not have the time to enjoy it properly. Our cocktails took a long time to come out, as apparently the bartender was backed up. The waitress appeared as though she was very new on the job, and unsure of herself. We sat between two four-tops that were loud, so unhappy about that as well. My daughter liked the bar area, so she will plan to come back on her own, as we will not be joining her again at that establishment. read more

This is my first time visiting and we had a really great experience. The place is huge, parking is easy and the service was outstanding. I thought they had a ton to pick from on their menu as well and lots of special options for lunch. There were affordable options yet some pricier ones if that's what you were going for. I had the combo tacos for lunch, I could either get two or three with my choice of tacos. I went for the mahi tacos and the shrimp tacos. They also had corn tortillas, which was nice because I prefer them over flour. I also don't remember the last time I was offered free bread for lunch, and it was covered and Parmesan and olive oil, so that was amazing. I'll definitely need to go back and try again for dinner, great lunch experience though! read more

Stopped in for dinner on a Friday during Richmond restaurant week. On Thursday I visited the cafe location on E Broad where the service was outstanding. The menu options were good and the price for a 3 course meal was budget friendly. I had the tilapia with stuffed crab meat, a vegetable and a side salad. The food was delicious. So last year I scheduled a board meeting there. Reserved a room. Had menus printed. Showed up and was told we didnt have a reservation. They had our printed menus with our logo on the table in the private room. Turned out they had given our room to someone else. Probably didn't want to confront the group The have the room to. Went back tonight and was told wine was half off. Bought me the wrong bottle of wine and said it was only 20 percent off. Went over the summer and was told kids are free and then when the bill came was told because got an appetizer want free. Specifically asked before we ordered. Was really excited to try out Tarrant's West on its official opening weekend. Had a reservation for 4 at 7:45pm -- the place was PACKED, but we were still seated promptly at a great table in the front room. Was a bit taken aback by how loud it was, but I suppose that is to be expected when it is the place to be in the West End! Service was top notch. Our waiter was super personable and really comfortable with the entire menu. He offered a lot of advice (i.e., *really* made recommendations when asked for his favorites; didn't just say "everything") and all of our food came out quickly. I took one of our waiter's recs and went with the blackened redfish, which was topped with mango and crab meat and served over a bed of risotto and asparagus. There was a lot going on when I got my plate, but I was really pleased how well all of the flavors blended together. The blackening on the redfish was awesome! It was a fairly large portion, too, which is nice when you are paying $30 per person for dinner. Oh -- don't ignore the garlic rolls they bring out. Ours were devoured in seconds! Lunch with a friend yesterday afternoon. It's a really nice spot. A nice neighborhood feel. It's really nice inside. Nice intricate ceilings and style. The staff was quite friendly. Definitely not a tshirt kind of place. Put on a polo. The food the so-so. I decided to go with a club sandwich with fries. Dinner review: I went to Tarrants West for dinner during their soft opening week with a group of three other people. We ordered the seared tuna and fried green tomatoes as an appetizer (both were great but the tomatoes were the best I've ever had - great flavor and not greasy at all). For dinner, two people at the table had the scallops, one had steak, and the other had redfish. Everyone was quite pleased with the wonderful mix of flavors and textures on our plates! The service was prompt and attentive, as well as quite knowledgeable about the beer and wine selections. We finished our meal with a couple desserts, again all great but the bread pudding was out of this world! I highly recommend Tarrants West for a nice dinner out and can't wait to go back! read more

Went on a Sunday night for dinner with a group of 8. Some things could have been over looked if the food was great, but that wasn't the case. To begin, we had a reservation at 6:30, we had to wait... Not a problem, we were seated by 6:45. Our server did not come to our table til around 7 and she took our drink orders. 10 minutes later she comes back and says "the bar messed up and she needed to take our order again" That lame excuse might work on some people, not me. She obviously forgot to put order in and forgot what was ordered. We than order our entrees. I had the meatloaf ($20) my wife had the surf and turf ($30) and the others had chicken and waffles and monte christo sandwiches. Food was decent but NOBODY was impressed. Server never even asked my wife what temperature she wanted her filet cooked! I don't care if this restaurant has been open for a short period of time, thats a rookie mistake. Yum yum what an extensive and fabulous menu on offer here! I haven't been to the one downtown so can't compare but very much enjoyed the monkfish in Marsala sauce last night. Appetizers were huge and so were half size salads. Lots of seafood choices plus some southern classics such as fried green tomatoes and chicken and waffles. For fussier eaters who want more basic food there are great pizzas and sandwiches. Impressively decent wineries and a full bar. Outdoor patio was lovely in the warmth of the evening. 6 of us for dinner no alcohol was ordered nor dessert so Bill was about $165 plus tip. I want to go back for lunch it is a great place to entertain clients in Innsbrook as an alternative to Hondos. Service was a little slow but otherwise no complaints. read more

Love the variety of the menu--there's something for everyone from breakfast to brunch to lunch and dinner and specials. The atmosphere is also lovely with an old world charm. The food is good and usually as ordered with only a few exceptions here and there. Same for service. I wish it were more consistent. We've had exceptional dinner service and also below par brunch service where we've been completely forgotten or our food has or it's cold. We've been charged per glass of of iced tea on multiple occasions and just found out it's free refills--so FYI. And then we will have the server that goes out of their way to provide the best quality service. We choose it fairly regular still but not as consistently as when they were more consistent. Met a friend at Tarrant's West for Sunday brunch. Worried it might be packed, I had reservations for 11am, but when we arrived it didn't seem too crazy. Since it was a nice day we sat outside on the porch area (recommended). Right away we were greeted by our server who was laid back, friendly, cheerful, and helpful. She took our drink orders and also brought us some cinnamon rolls (YUM! So much better than plain bread!). I ordered the make your own omelet with bacon, mushrooms, and swiss...it was large and good, but I wish there was a tad more cheese since it was on the dry side. The sides of potatoes (my fave part of the meal - aside from the cinnamon rolls) and fruit were good! My bloody Mary was okay...very basic with just celery and a lime wedge. Brunch: Still Working Out The Kinks. Went to Sunday brunch around 11AM with a party of four. Out of those four only one did not have a problem. A salad came with the wrong dressing and had to be sent back, soft boiled eggs in another dish were decidedly cold, and the vegetarian omelet was so incredibly heavy with garlic that it was all but inedible and burned my tongue for a good hour afterwards. A manager came by and asked how everything was and I told him about the omelet and he offered to get me a new one, which I declined. (Burning garlic tongue, if that is a thing, does not exactly encourage the appetite). We had three servers, two of which were in training which was kind of distracting when you are trying to have a conversation and someone is puttering about every two minutes. Seems like it could (or rather, will) be a great little place but they probably should have extended the soft launch a little longer as it seems like they still have some things that still need to be worked out. They are trying hard, though. Someday this will be a 4/5 star review kind of place. read more

I had my wedding reception at Tarrant's West in 2017 and my husband and I have returned each year to celebrate our anniversary. The food is usually very good and the service is wonderful. One of my favorite items to order is their she-crab soup. I love to pair it with their addictive garlic knot bread. Each year my husband and I try and order something new. Tarrant's menu is varied and offers loads of options to try. If you are like us and like to order soup, salad, an appetizer, and entrees look to spend about $100. read more

My family and I dined with Tarrant's West this evening. We arrived right at 5 pm and they were not busy in the dining room. While there is quite a selection, the food was terrible. The service was not great either. I have a toddler and her mini burger which was large (and I asked if it was small and thin), was also very very burnt and black. No child would eat that especially my 20 month old. My husband requested a medium rare filet mignon which was also burned and black. My stuffed flounder was just ok with no flavor. I previously worked in the restaurant industry and no server should deliver such obviously burned food. The server saw that we tried to cut the burned portion off and didn't comment. He did, thankfully bring more grapes as that was the only thing my daughter would eat. We will not return or recommend this restaurant to anyone. read more

Tarrant's West has an enormous menu with treats for everyone. The biggest issue you face at Tarrant's is what to choose. The sandwiches are hearty and you have plenty of options for sides. Typically the chips are the star but mine were a little stale. The service is good. Not overly attentive but fine. The restaurant is a little loud and lively. I love how they retained some of the architectural details of the downtown location with this location. We went for a Sunday brunch, and I ordered Eggs Florentine, which maybe I wouldn't normally do, but Tarrant's West seems to be going for that mix of fancy/stodgy that can turn people off. Eggs Florentine seems like the kind of dish a place like that would do at least reasonably well, and they were good. Any guess you make about the median age of customers is probably correct. This means, among other things, that the hollandaise sauce is decent. The mimosa comes half-filled with orange juice, which initially horrified me, but then they give you a small bottle of champagne, and all is well again. The beer list was very-well curated, and if I was less self-conscious about drinking beer at brunch would have ordered something from it. Everyone seemed to have the same feeling - go here if you want a brunch that is fancy but not too fancy, which also means it is good, but not too good. read more

We are a big fan of Tarrant's downtown location and decided to give this location a try. We recalled hearing some concern about service, but nevertheless went in with an open mind. Immediately it felt funky; interaction from the restaurant staff seemed off but we couldn't determine exactly what it was. Our server was nice but very inexperienced and clearly did not know his menu. The food was delicious--the same caliber as at the downtown location--but again the restaurant staff missed the mark; e.g., when a server came by to refill my water glass, he neglected to refill my wife's water glass which had even less water in it than mine. Tarrants West is a semi-regular stop for me in the west end. Consistent foods and service, great interior, and valet parking are all pluses. My last visit we tried a handful of craft cocktails, each very well done. I recommend any of them that suits your mood, they are all quite good. We stuck with our regular Happy Hour snacks, fried green tomatoes and also a pizza. The FGTs are amazing, perfectly fried, with a lovely sauce. They come with a small side of homemade chips. Our pizza this time was a feta, artichoke and kalamata. The crust is wonderful, thin and crispy. The toppings aren't overwhelming, and no matter the combination we choose, they always to find the right balance to make our choices pop. Tarrants is great for groups, I've been several times and they do a wonderful job of accommodating large crowds. In short, this one is always a pleaser. read more

Came here for the first ever henrico restaurant week. This is the only place on the restaurant week list that I'm interested in. As a number person and from the experience I acquired by attending dineLA for several years , I typically added up the cost of appetizer, entree and dessert to compare with their "offered" price. This is the only place that is worth a try. The food is not bad. I will give it a 5-star after accounting for the state and city impact as well as what is available in the neighborhood. "I get what I pay for" is my conclusion. Many yelpers mentioned a lot about the downtown location. I don't have an incentive to go try it yet, but I will definitely visit the glen Allen location again because it is close to me and my last experience was decent. read more

Went to Tarrant's West last night with a large group. We had a menu that offered a few choices...red snapper, pasta with vodka sauce, filet, and chicken Marsala. As appetizers we had fried green tomatoes, calamari and stuffed mushrooms. I had the green tomatoes and one stuffed mushroom...both were good. For my entree I had red snapper, which came with rice and vegetables. The dish was bland and reminded me of what you get at one of those cafeteria-type places. The person sitting next to me ordered the filet medium and it was closer to well done. They said it wasn't great. I was surprised dinner wasn't better because I've had brunch at Tarrant's and thought it was good. Guess I'll have to give them a try with a smaller group to see if it's any better. read more
