I have come to this location for at least 4 years and have supported them at other locations. I'm not sure what the true issue was on the day of me writing this review, but it's inexcusable. To preface, several staff recognize me and are familiar with my presence. I came in while it was a lunch rush with roughly 5-7 folks in line. I found a table, placed my things and then used the restroom to offset standing in line the full time. About 10 minutes had gone by and a regular, frequently seen staff member approached my table to tell me the establishment was for paying customers only and proceeded to say that he was "not trying to start anything." After fully starting something and failing to acknowledge there was a line that had just cleared up or that I frequent the establishment as a patron he said "that's just the way it is." Immediate turn off. Out of pure principle I still purchased my coffee and pastry and promptly left. Clearly I'm not welcome and that's okay. I won't spend another dollar there. Oh and the real kicker is that the gentleman at the register was confused as to why the man said that to me and said, "I've seen you here many times before." It's challenging enough finding a suitable place to work and be able to focus in a relaxed environment, but Tartine only needs to show me once they don't value my patronage for me to carry on. I felt mixed about this place. For the price point I expected better service. There's meter parking on the streets. I ordered matcha latte, mocha and spinach artichoke danish. The cashier didn't ask if I wanted it hot or iced. He didn't ask if I wanted whole milk for my drinks. And he definitely did not ask if I wanted my danish heated. All of this became an issue when my wife wanted her matcha iced and also with oat milk and her danish heated as it was not good cold. They were nice enough to remake her drink for her and she thought the matcha was pretty basic but told us they can't heat up the danish once you receive the order which was kind of upsetting since it was never offered. I thought the mocha was decent. Menu is by the entrance. It's a self service vibe with restaurant pricing. I had to ask for utensils and there's def a lack of napkins. read more

And they don't rush you off the table. My friend and I had a lot of personal and work business to discuss and we felt totally relaxed. And we could hear ourselves think. I can't say it's a bring your laptop and work kind of place but we were there at brunch which is a busy time. But yeah, if you're looking to park it with your laptop I'm not sure this is the spot. Over the years I lived in West Hollywood, Tartine was my go to bakery cafe. The staff are all incredibly friendly and welcoming. Espresso drinks are all well crafted and I enjoyed the refills on coffee. The baked goods are all well crafted and fresh every morning. There's few bakeries in the Hollywood area this good. I'd get a hand pie or croissant many days. Prices are high yes, but the only nearby comparable quality bakeries would be near Larchmont or Silverlake and you'll be paying about as much. I was attending an event at SiriusXM and the staff recommended this place for lunch. So pretty much most of the attendees went to this place for lunch to mingle with each other. I was following along with the crowd. I was so busy talking that I didn't pay a lot of attention to read the menu while I was waiting in line. This is like a cafe kind of place. I glanced at the menu and realized nothing was cheap here. Since I had to spend a lot anyway, I decided to order something that I like. I got the smoked salmon tartine. It's like $17.95 on the menu which I think is quite a bit especially when I got the order and see that it literally is a piece of toast with smoked salmon on it. The portion is really not much. The smoked salmon tasted good though. I also got to try the salad that another attendee ordered. It was fresh as well. I would have to say the food itself is good but the price is high. But maybe that's the ongoing rate for this area. Afterwards, I looked at the recipe and I was charged like $20 something dollars. There is an employee benefits charge of $0.82 and then tax on top of that. So be careful if you are the kind that would like to save money. This is not your place. If you are the kind that enjoys good food and don't care how much you pay for it, this is your place. read more

After various telephone calls, and an e-mail, Tartine has neglected or refused to correct this error. I guess I will have to get my credit card involved to correct this fraudulent charge. Sad to see Tartine now. Went for Sunday brunch. Was the ONLY customer there, and saw at least 5 employees. Rugs and tables were dirty, bUT employees were chatting with each other, instead of working or cleaning. I asked for avocado toast with egg white (one of my usual orders), but they said they don't do egg whites anymore. Really, with protein being such a big deal, and with at least 5 employees standing around doing nothing? Really? I cut my order down in disappointment. While I was waiting for my food, someone else came in, began to order, and asked for tomatoes on their dish. You guessed it, the cashier explained they don't do tomatoes, either. That guy left (without ordering anything). Place was dead, wildly overstaffed, and DMV- level customer service: whatever you want, the answer is NO, and apparently it's not anyone's job to clean. Given the economy, and their lack of actual customers in what should be a busy time, won't be surprised when Tartine closes. Too bad, was good once.... read more

Everyone raves about the Tartine in Santa Monica - which is completely valid - but Tartine Sycamore is a beauty on its own. With both indoor and outdoor seating and large tables, it is the perfect place to either catch up with friends over brunch, or get some work done with a cup of coffee and one of their delicious pastries. The staff members are also amazing, and really add to the already amazing experience. My coworkers and I love going to this Tartine, especially because the street they are on feels like a different place from the surrounding areas, with lots of boutique stores and restaurants. We love sitting outside in the large communal table and yap during our lunch hours. I do want to say that the prices are not the friendliest, but it is LA after all and I have seen some crazy priced coffees elsewhere as well. read more

Probably one of my favorite places and coffee shop/bakery installations to be added to the Los Angeles area. Long revered for their bread as an original San Francisco Bay Area beloved brand, I love the addition and especially this location (and I've regularly been in and out of this place for the past 2 years!). The vibes, the space, the cute WeHo block next to Sightglass Coffee (another Bay Area gem) and across from Supervinyl (great record store) makes me keep coming back. On top of that, their pastries are incredible. I've tried a little bit of everything, from their Morning Bun (Bobby Flay approved), Almond Croissant (my kryptonite), Lemon Poppyseed Cake, to their Savory Danish and even a loaf of their Multigrain Bread or Baguette... You really can't go wrong with anything you get from here. They truly pride themselves on being known for their bread, and they bake everything fresh daily (nothing is day-old, as they sell/take-home any goods leftover). I usually go for a matcha, chai, or dirty chai here, or a classic cappuccino, and I haven't been disappointed. Pretty decent pairing. Their bread is killer though. And, they've got nice, hospitable staff who seems to truly enjoy their jobs and working there and offers great service. Tartine's focus is their bakery and excellent pastry options. Can't help but leave with a loaf of Porridge Bread for the week. This location is spacious with ample seating, a slight Mediterranean feel, and really shines as a casual breakfast or brunch location. While not their focus, the coffee game here is decent. Parking is definitely a challenge in this area but luckily there is a parking garage just north on sycamore which Tartine validates for 90min free. A solid spot to bring a few friends for good hangs and conversation. read more

I got the avocado tartine and thought it was just alright. It was just a normal avocado toast that costed $20 it was not $20 worth and I didn't think it was any special. There was a lot of seating though and I loved that the inside was nice and cooled with AC and there were also outdoor seating that was covered. I enjoyed the seating ambiance. Would not come again for their food though, overpriced. You also have to find street parking but it's not too hard to find. read more

I thought it was just coffee at first so I was happy to find out it was also actual food. We ordered our coffees which were great and a breakfast croissant, some potatoes, and a vegan crumb pastry. I thought the food we ordered was pretty good! Except the potatoes were a little overly salty and the sauce on top could have been a little less. The crumb cake was surprisingly extra delicious! My only complaint was the guy at the register. It felt like we were bothering him to order. When he called us next to order we said hi and he said nothing. We had a question about the coffee and he answered as if we asked a dumb question. Zero expressions. It was very strange. Hope if he was having a bad day it's better now. This place is great! Consistency is their problem. And over done pastries. I get the same thing every time. A ham and cheese and egg croissant with a morning bun. This time my bf got an almond croissant which was also crumbly and over baked. This was at 8 AM. I come often so I know to choose the morning bun and get a light and flaky one that is soft on the inside. When they are baked right they are heaven! Last 2 times my yolk was slightly runny which was amazing. This time the yolk was totally hard. This should have been redone and not sent out. I took a pic of the almond croissant bc we ate the good flaky parts and left the hard and over baked edges (which are my favourite part of the croissant:(. I don't mean to sound harsh but this place is so close to being super fantastic I hope they take these criticisms to heart from a loyal customer. We bring out of towners here bc it's so cute. I've been wanting to try the original Tartine in San Francisco even before the So Cal locations started appearing. It's nice to get a taste of Tartine without a long road trip. The addition of orange zest in the Morning Bun (4 stars) sets it apart in flavor from other cinnamon sugar pastries. The center of the bun is the best part because it holds the most flavor and sweetness. Some bites are reminciscent of a Kouign Amman with the caramelized sugary bits. It's best when warmed up since the edges were a little dry and dense in texture. The Pain au Chocolat (4 stars) was what you expect from a good quality croissant. The exterior was flaky. The interior layers were soft, buttery, and airy with a rich dark chocolate. The other croissants in the display case looked good too. During my visit, it seemed quiet with several solo diners enjoying their early Sunday morning breakfast. They offered 4 star quick service as the line moved quickly. I look forward to returning to reorder my picks and try other items. read more

I walked in here since the line at Sightglass down the way wasn't moving. Since it was later in the afternoon, they were out of a lot of things but that is understandable due to the timeframe. Guy was nice at the register, but that 4% employee benefit was not. I guess that is a reason why I go out of my way to avoid a lot of these little shops on Sycamore that keep increasing...and since people that come here won't even bother looking (or caring), I suppose it doesn't really matter (Sightglass at least states they can remove it; not so sure about Tartine).
