I was here from out of town for business. I needed a place to eat, but am vegetarian. I combed Yelp and Google to try and find a good restaurant to eat at past 7:00PM as most restaurants appear to be closed. I somehow came across this restaurant on Yelp and I'm so glad I came!! I walked into the restaurant which was empty at the time I visited. I was greeted by the sweetest and friendliest associate at the counter. Not being able to find a menu online, I asked the associate about some of their offerings. She was SO helpful and kind with all my questions. I made my order and opted to take it to go. When she called the order back she made sure to let the chef know it was my first visit. When my order was complete, she brought it out to me and even handed me extra containers in case I needed extra condiments. The service was amazing! I ordered a veggie burger on the recommendation of this associate and I'm so glad I did. This is THE BEST veggie burger I have ever had. I can't even describe it to you. Overall, this place has some amazing potential, and is doing things not very many locations in Northern California are; including the Bay Area which is known for its plethora of vegan/vegetarian food. However, there's certainly room for improvement. We ordered a 5 pc combo plate and taco salad. To start, I feel like a lot of the food is overpriced. Maybe it's a reflection of the rent in Ukiah on Main Street, but over $15 for a veggie combo plate and over $12 for a salad at a casual dining restaurant doesn't feel like you're getting great perceived value for what you purchase. Our combo plate included BBQ tofu, black eyed peas, vegan "beef" curry, kale, and Jamaican rice and peas. The BBQ tofu, curry and rice were all seasoned excellently and cooked skillfully. However, the kale and black eyed peas we could have done without. They leave their stems on their kale which makes it incredibly woody and unpleasant to eat and the black eyed peas needed some major seasoning. The taco salad we ordered was excellent. The dressing was super tasty and the veggies all really fresh and delightfully crunchy. My only other suggestion food-wise would be to have some epic hot sauces on the table. They had one green hot sauce which was pretty good, but I'd love to see more. Things took a turn however when the cashier rang our order wrong. I didn't notice when I signed the receipt because the total seemed correct for what we ordered, but in the middle of our meal she approached us and told us she didn't charge us for one full entree. I was confused, how was our bill $28 if she only rang us for a combo plate with 2 drinks? She had to go investigate and found she randomly charged us for French fries. She came back telling us she had reversed my charge and they would need to charge my card again. If this has ever happened to you, you'll know why it's a pain in the butt. Most banks don't actually refund the reversed charge for almost a week, so you have 2 charges on your statement for that long. My annoyance wasn't in the fact that there was a mistake made. Believe me, as a long-time restaurant employee I know when it gets busy, and you're ringing in dozens of orders, this happens. But wait...it wasn't anywhere near busy. There was one small order before us and that was it. On top of it, I tipped her initially. Although the cashier was kind, in the end, there should just have been more care applied to our order and payment. With the large selection I know I'll be back to give them another try. read more

If I lived in this area, I would become a regular at this restaurant. I am not vegan or even vegetarian, but I could eat at this restaurant multiple times in a week. I tried the eggplant, the chick peas, the summer squash veggies, the pumpkin, the forbidden rice, the other rice, the bbq tofu. i was crazy about the bbq tofu. You can tell that the food is made with a lot of intention and love. The staff is very friendly. I ordered a grilled cheese and fries and a veggie burger with cheese and side salad. Fries were really good. I really enjoyed the veggie burger very flavorful. Salad was ok to. The grilled cheese was uh just ok. Overall a good experience. Down points the price 23 dollars felt a little steep for just this basic meal no drinks included. We ordered ours to go. But the inside yikes it was 100 degrees outside and inside their building. Glad I got it to go bc at that price and no ac they would of probably received less stars. I'm from the bay area, stopped in Ukiah for the night during a road trip. It's the 4th of July so finding food this morning presented itself as a challenge. Especially with my dietary restrictions. I couldn't believe my flippin eyes when I drove past taste buds. I flipped a U and stalked their Yelp for a minute. I had to ask the guy working to help me out because I wanted to order everything on their menu. I ended up getting a three item with orange chicken, mashed potatoes with mushroom gravy, and green beans. So the food was super yummy and I was surprised at how good the gravy was because I hate gravy. I really wish I lived closer to this place, I'd probably eat here everyday. read more

This place was not for me. From the lukewarm tap water flavored with fresh strawberries and ginger root, to the crusty, old looking mac n cheese and other items on display, I was not impressed. This restaurant has simply the best vegan food I have had -- very delicious. The food is all take out and includes a steam table filled with grain dishes, vegetable dishes and protein dishes. I'm not a big fan of mock meats, but I highly recommend trying the mock chicken. They usually have more than one "chicken" dish to try. Also, the rice and beans are very good. Very tasty vegetarian food! I especially loved the authentic jerk seasoning, and the various stews. The menu options are a nice way to accomodate varying budgets and appetites. My pregnant girlfriend was enthralled by the nettles chlorophyll beverage, which tasted like a nice tea and is super healthy for her. Good option if you're in a hurry since you can get a combination plate for items already cooked. If you can do spicy, definitely have to get the jerk tofu.
