I really love Tasty Pot and I'm giving 4-stars instead of 3 because I've been here so many times and have always had good experiences... except my most recent experience was subpar. For my last experience here: I came for dinner, wait was the usual hour. I ordered the kimchi pot mild. Kimchi pot came out and there was no spice whatsoever... it looked like the food was boiling in basic water. So I told them that I ordered mild (I've gotten mild before and it has NEVER looked like clear water) and they said that it was mild???? I honestly was not having it because it was literally not mild... it was truly just water. I think the waitress got it mixed up because my brother told her that my nephew didn't want spice in his hot pot and she ended up putting no spice in my hot pot. Overall, that last experience really bothered me. Other times I've been - wait was usually an hour. I would get beef hot pot or kimchi hot pot medium. Food would be amazing, service was great, and the sauces were always to die for!!! They also recently added a new sauce, which also paired super well with the hot pot!! Went here for a Yelp Elite event by myself. I ordered the spicy beef, one level from the highest so it was perfect. Beef, taro, cabbage, corn, tempura fish cake, beef balls, glass noodle. I still like Boiling Pot better because of the dipping sauce but this was closer to my house. I loved the Jasmine foam green tea. It was pre mix tho so you can't ask them to put less sugar. Hot pot is always a good option in my opinion! I'm from Socal so this was my first time at Tasty Pot. A big plus is that they have a Yelp waitlist! That way you can check in while you're driving there. The restaurant wait dies down around 1:30pm though, so I'd recommend going then. They're closed 3-5pm. Their menu also has a lot of choices! Beef Hot Soup ($13.99): Very similar to boiling point's beef hot pot but the meat slices were thicker! This was a lunch special too so it came with rice/noodles and a green/black tea! I appreciate that they still offer the lunch special on the weekends. I actually liked the broth more than BP's- it was more flavorful and you could see allll the chili oil in it too. This is the place to go when I'm craving some soup. I tend to get the beef pot with Thai soup. I love that I can add additional toppings that will come on the side! Service has its good and bad days. They are pretty good with coming around to refill my water and offer extra broth. When they are busy, food and refills may take a little longer, but it's understandable. read more

This was overpriced for the quality, quantity, and taste of food. 2 of the people here were raging TastyPot Stan fangirls. They are not anymore. They were disgusted by tastypot this time. Even though my standards were low, I was left feeling sick and ripped off. I felt dizzy walking to the car after the meal. It was just a lot of fish balls and lettuce drenched in salt or Msg?. The hotness might mask the saltiness, but when I was eating my leftovers, which had cooled down, I felt sick and had to rinse everything out with water. I think this place is banking off of the Asian population in the Bay Area, and they could get away with high prices because everything is overpriced here in the bay, but someone will always buy it. Tastypot menu has pretty, and alluring photos of tea. But 1 of the TastyPot ex-fangirls claimed that TastyPot tea sucks. This was proven to be fact by someone who has extremely low milk tea standards. They said it just "tasted like sugar water." If you are ever craving anything healthy and hearty, this bowl of soup will warm you up. Each pot is filled with a broth of your choosing and comes with a set sides that will cook as you eat. In this style of dining, your order will come to your table in the form of a pot filled with broth and preset food. Some of it will still be left raw and they will have added a fire under your pot in case you would want your pot more cooked or if you ordered appetizers. If your pot is cooked to satisfaction, you can fiddle with the lever and cut off the oxygen to the fire. ---------- RESTAURANT ---------- This restaurant is located in the same plaza as Sprouts, right off the 87- freeway/Decoto. Turning in, after the freeway, there will be two entrance driveways - one is going to be to a hotel, the second to the plaza. Take the second driveway and you can find Tasty Pot on the right, next to the boba shop. Parking will be limited in front of the restaurant but there is plenty of parking outside the pocket corner of the plaza it is in. Typically, I park in front of Chase Bank so I'm in between the desserts area within the plaza. The restaurant can seat many people inside, having two seater, four seater, and 6 seater tables. Occasionally, there is a yelp waiting list but I've found it closed recently and you'd have to physically go to the restaurant to leave your name on a check in sheet. Around 6pm, it does get crowded and people tend to crowd the waiting area and in front of the doors. Service is mostly busy but they do come around making sure your waters are filled. If you want your soup re-filled, you will have to either flag them through the online menu or in person. ------------ FOOD ---------- You will be seated at a table with a QR code on a side. Use your camera on your smart phone to link to their online menu (anyone at the table may do so and order from their own phones, since the online system is connected to the same table through the code). There, you can order your pot, appetizers, milk tea, or desserts. One pot will come with your broth, preset fillings, and either rice or vermicelli. Eating it can be done in various ways, either by scooping your rice/vermicelli into your spoon and eating it with your soup or dumping your rice/vermicelli into the soup and mixing them together. I prefer the latter since I like to soak my food in to absorb the broth as much as I can. As for additions, I never felt it was worth since the pot already comes with a famishing amount of food and they are overpriced for what you get. Recommendations: - Stinky Tofu : An acquired taste with an interesting smell. This is a delicacy that is sweet, sour, and spicy. It's packed full of flavors and would recommend if you are willing to brave it. - Fuzhou Fishballs : Meat filled fishballs. These are teardrop shaped and will surprise you once you bite into it. This is probably the only appetizer I would recommend and will need to be cooked in your pot before eating. Be careful because there is a lot of juice in the fishball that could burn your tongue. - Beef Hot Pot Soup/Lamb Hot Pot Soup : A great selection for first timers. This is the traditional hot pot that people like to choose because it is simple and good with lots of familiar flavors. For people who do not like gamey flavors, choose the beef hot pot. - Cheesy Milk Hot Soup: An acquired taste to some for this buttery goodness. The pot will come with unmelted cheese on top that you should mix in to merge with the soup. It is heavy but will tenderize your meat and other fillings. - Curry Flavor Hot Soup : Not my personal favorite but others I go with like to order this pot. They take a cube of curry and mix it in with their standard broth. Similar to japanese curry. - Sichuan Flavor Hot Soup : A premium pot that will please those who love very spicy. This is both numbing spicy and flaming spicy so brave it if you can handle the sweat! Once you are finished with your meal, you can access the online menu on your phone. Press the button to mark you are finished and are ready for the check; they will come with your bill afterwards. *COVID Review* Honestly, outdoor dining for a hot pot restaurant can be pretty difficult, so I do commend their efforts. The outdoor seating area consists of a giant tent in the parking lot that is sectioned off-- quite spacious and is lit up with string lights. To be honest, I don't quite see the point of having outdoor dining if folks are going to be in the tent in close proximity, but hey people are trying to get their hot pot fix. To order, you scan a QR code and complete the process online. The servers will then come to you with your order as well as with drinks, prepackaged utensils, and sauces. Hot pot is a really high maintenance meal: you run out of sauces, the soup is too hot so you want them to turn off the flame, refill soup/water...etc. I can definitely empathize with the servers since there is such a lack of servers to customers. With that said, it was really hard to get their attention as there was one person serving basically everyone, running around taking everyone's requests. The food itself was alright! Tasty pot is quite consistent with their meals over the years but the one call out is that I believe their prices have gone up a bit. I got the "Healthy Veggie" and it had 3 small cubes of tofu, romaine lettuce (extremely slimy), baby carrots, lotus root, taro, and some other veggies. The broth was just water, salt, and pepper flakes, it was one of the worst broths I've ever had. My family got the Thai broth and it was also very mediocre. They gave everything but the soup in paper cups. The sauce cups were dirty as well. They also didn't have waiters and you had to have order on your phone. 've been here before, but I couldn't remember what I got last time. So, today I went with the hot beef soup. (I remembered that I got a miso based soup after I already ordered). They have a great set up for paying. The cashier entered my order in on the computer near the kitchen. I was then able to pay right by the front door. It required me to pay with my card using the touch pay method. It was the first time I used it and it was really easy. I'm sure this set up also makes the employer lives easier. As for the soup... I didn't get a receipt, but I believe it was around $18. So a little pricey but it did include a drink. The portion was good. I thought the soup was okay. A solid spot for hot pot if you don't feel like doing ayce. The pots are preset with meats and veggies but you can pay to add on more items. The #8 Thai Flavor Hot Soup had a good broth! This was a bigger pot and it was filling without being too overwhelming. I usually get the #7 Kimchi Dumpling Hot Soup which has a flavorful broth and all my favorite items. Don't get me wrong I love kimchi but the Kimchi soup has a little too much kimchi (like a third of the broth) which gets in the way of the other items. After having the Taiwanese style hot pot at the Berkeley location, I've become an addict. In comparison to the offerings at the Berk location, the Newark Tasty Pot is a bit lacking. Food: 3.5/5 The quality of food for this specific location has been hit or miss. #6 Healthy Veggie Hot Soup 1/5 The healthy veggie hot pot with original soup and flaming spicy is usually my go to in Berk. After ordering it several times from this place, I'm unimpressed.The broth tastes like water mixed with spices, just bland and has no flavor. Completely ruins the whole hotpot. #8 Thai Flavor Hot Soup 4/5 Can't complain. Flavor is there. It has a slight kick to it but it's not overwhelmingly spicy. I love the ingredients: the Taiwanese cabbage, imitation crabmeat, pork slices, clam, mussel, crab, etc. Only complaint is that there's too little broth compared to the ingredients in the hot pot. #9 Sichuan Flavored Hot Soup 3/5 First thing that comes to mind with Sichuan is a "mala" taste, which is supposed to be a numbing spicy. Soup/broth did have peppercorn, chili peppers, and chili oil. There was a kick to it but it did not have the mala taste. (Or maybe my spice tolerance is simply nuts) Broth was a bit watered down, lacked depth in flavor. Had to add the sauces they gave as add-ons to improve the flavor. So broth wasn't that bad. Tasty Pot is one of those go-to places if you want a personal size and not so much AYCE. It can be busy at times but you or your party will usually get called in quickly. My go to is the beef hot soup with a side of rice. The broth can definitely be spicy just at a medium spice, but the broth is super flavorful and pairs perfect with a side of plain rice. I would say the portion is perfect since I'm usually full by the end of the pot. Their milk tea's and boba are surprisingly good too, so I would give those a try! Recently, I came by myself and they crossed out my name without even calling it. The price of their food has also went up by over 30%. What used to be a $12.99 pot now is $17.99. Also, it's always super crowded so getting a table is hard. They got rid of Yelp Waitlist because of the pandemic, so you really have to get to the restaurant to have a shot of getting your table at a reasonable time. Given all that, I wouldn't and haven't come back here often. For an extra $10, I can go to Mala Town or Legend Hot Pot for more and arguably better tasting food, better service, and a better overall experience. read more

I left pretty satisfied being vegetarian--but oh boy, that was a lot of cabbage. I went for the Healthy Veggie Hot Soup at a medium spiciness level with instant ramen noodles. My friends and I ordered via mobile phone through their online ordering system, and all of our food arrived fairly quickly. I was quite impressed by the variety of toppings! The different tastes and textures I encountered were delightful--tender tofu, crunchy lotus root, and four (yes, four) different kinds of mushrooms. The broth wasn't much to write home about, but the heat along with the chili flakes really cleared my sinuses. The soybean and garlic soy sauces at the table added some nice flavor as well. As I alluded to earlier, however, my meal was quite heavy on the cabbage. They might as well have added a whole head of it! I didn't really notice this until getting through the other toppings, at which point I was left with a whole lot of cabbage soup that I wasn't keen on finishing. Not great for having dropped over $20 after tips and taxes. Knowing that hot pot doesn't typically cater to vegetarians like myself, all things considered I was happy with my meal. Next you pick a spicy level (from none to flaming spicy). The lunch soups include, your choice of rice or extra vermicelli noodles plus an iced green or black tea. Today we tried the following flavors: *Kimchi *Beef *Taiwanese Spicy If you're a spicy lover, like myself-skip the other flavors and go straight for the Taiwanese Spicy Soup in the "very Spicy" level. This soup was base was so good, the spicyness doesn't hit you until a few seconds after swallowing. It's the type of spicy that when you breathe, you feel it throughout the back of your throat and then the nose sniffles begins. My kinda spicy! The soups are pretty hearty, they come with a lot of different stuff. Most soups already come with instant noodles and vermicelli- so I would order a side of rice. I got it very spicy with extra quail eggs and mini sausage and I'm gonna be honest.....wow. It was spicy! I don't know if I was crying from the boiling hot broth, or the spiciness or from my tooth pain but honestly....it was worth it! I absolutely loved the strong flavor of tomato mixed with the spiciness! Highly recommend reserving your position on YELP ahead of time. It gets packed!!! We arrived around 530p on a Sunday evening and the line was out the door with all tables full. Put ourselves on the list and received a call when our table was ready - about 20 minutes later. We were seated quickly and given time to peruse the menu and enjoy each other's company. It was nice, considering how swamped they were!! When the waitress came to take our order she was quite distracted and not even looking at us, always a concern when placing an order... Our orders started to come out and our additional sides, but a side that we did not order came to our table. All our soup orders were correct though and then they tried to deliver the incorrect side again after we had already received all of our correct items. You are not allowed to bring outside drinks into the restaurant (while we were waiting we ordered Boba Tea a couple doors down). They were kind enough to offer to house our drinks in the back refrigerator while we ate! Apparently they serve boba at their restaurant too, but I did not see any patrons with boba in the restaurant. Might have to try that next time I am here! One stop shop. The wait staff were just attentive enough and kept our water and bowls full of broth. When the waitress missed the cup with the water though, she never came back to pick-up the spill in the middle of the table or offered us napkins to wipe it up ourselves. This is a decent variety for first time hot potters and I recommend coming with 3-5 people so you can taste different items all at once Enjoy! read more
