The egg noodle was ' crispier' than offered by most of its competitors and my wife really loved the fish. The wait staff was very responsive. The disappointment I had was that the shrimp dish I ordered for takeout was not what I ordered when we opened the co Trainer at home- the shrimp with pea pods was under par. The curry brisket was authentically Hong Kong style and thus may not be liked by those who are not familiar with HK food. But I really liked it. I came here because tried the one in Roland Heigjts, the food was not bad and thought I'd give the Irvine location a try. Ordered 4 dishes, one to take home. The baked porkchop rice wasn't even cooked right - just a bunch of white rice, pork chop, tomato sauce with baked cheese on top. We initially ordered the beef stew but it came out so awful and we had to return it. See the picture I have attached. I would say it was not edible. They said that they didn't have a lot of things available in the menu. Which I think it's sad because why bother putting it on the menu when your chefs can't cook it or it's not available. I was back in town and the first stop was DFC! I went on Saturday afternoon around 2:30 and it was bustling. There was a short wait for a table. I ordered my favorite, wonton noodle soup with char siu and iced lemon tea again. The manager, Steve, recognized me and as usual spoiled us with his amazing customer service. He treated my son and I to a pair of the HK style baw law yao. It was so good while warm. The bun consistency was perfect. Not dry but soft with a perfect crunchy top. Obviously the best part was the slab of butter that was inside the bun. It was perfectly melted into the bun. Yum! My wonton noodle soup was just as good as the last time I had it. A Chinese restaurant specialized in Cantonese style cuisine. We were there on a Friday evening around 7:00 pm and surprisingly was not full. We did make a reservation to make sure. Order was taken quickly and food came relatively quick and piping hot. We ordered 7 items for 6 people. First came the BBQ 3 items plate with BBQ pork, roasted pig and roasted duck with the appropriate sauces. All these were prepared in house and were very good. The spare rib in black bean sauce clay pot rice was also good and authentic. The tofu seafood was also good. The other pot of spicy egg plant was excellent. The fish fillet with black bean sauce was also good. The beef rice noddle was OK but not great. The house spiced vermicelli was just so so. Portions were relatively generous and reasonable priced. For a group of 6, we had about 1/4 left over. In addition to the regular menu, they have a special banquet menu for 10 people at different price range depending on the entries. The place was moderately crowed. I was not aware of any round tables around so entertaining a party could be a challenge. However, this place is a branch of Delicious Food Corners that has restaurants in other locations in S California namely in Arcadia, Diamond Bar, and Chino Hills. It was 9pm on a Sunday and we wanted a quick late dinner. This was the spot for that. Although they were closing soon they took us in. We ordered fish porridge and egg tofu with mushrooms. The fish porridge was on the plain side but I added white pepper to it. The egg tofu wasn't as soft as I'd like it to be but the mushrooms were delicious and came with so many different kinds. I always love finding a good Hong Kong style café. It's sometimes hard to find specific dishes that is indicative of Hong Kong style cafés, which you can't find elsewhere. I came here, hoping to find 免治牛肉飯 (minced beef rice dish that seems to have a different name at every restaurant) the one I'm looking for is a minced meat in a tomato sauce (sometimes baked) served over rice with a fried egg, and 鸳鸯 (yuenyang) which is a coffee and Hong Kong milk tea combination served either hot or cold. The service was very curt and effective like many amazing Cantonese restaurants I find in Oakland Chinatown growing up! I understand they're not being mean, but it's just part of the culture. So kind of expect that. My server was very good. When I asked for the minced beef over rice, they informed me that they didn't have it, but they had several similar dishes. And informed me that the dish I considered because there was a picture of it and it resembled what I wanted, had a completely different flavor profile. I ended up ordering that item to try it. I really appreciate it that they informed me it would have tasted completely different, so I would not have been surprised when I got it. They also informed me that they didn't have the yuanyang drink. I also came in the middle of a dinner rush, and was seated quite quickly as well as served quite quickly. However, I had to ask for water twice, but the first server realized and apologized. When I got my dish, I was blown away by the flavor profile since it was completely different from what I was intending to get. It had this complex sweet soy sauce and mushroom flavor mix into the minced pork. The fried egg that was topped off with was perfectly cooked, so that the yolk gave the dish a richness that made it amazing. I also had a Hong Kong milk tea to go with it. I personally had a wonderful experience, however, the table next to me seemed to not have enjoyed the meal as much. I overheard that they did not enjoy the taste of the meat that they got. And I did hear that the servers and managers were trying very much to make things right for them. Which seemed to appease the guests. I felt that the ambience felt like it was trying to hard to be Chinese instead of the minimalistic almost curt atmosphere that I often find in a similar restaurants, however, I noticed on the door that they are closing for a little while to renovate the inside so they may have a different interior! I found it funny that when I speak to them in Cantonese, they respond and Cantonese but they seem forget that I'm a Cantonese speaker and when they address me speak to me in Mandarin. The Filet Mignon Cubes were flavorful but on the pricy side at $27. Beef Chow Fun was lackluster. Pan Fried Noodles contained more ginger than I like but the chicken was on the sour side.
