They literally carded me 4 times in one night. The bouncer out front asked for two forms of ID - fine. When I finally got inside, the bartender also asked for two forms of ID and had another bartender come over to confirm my ID's were legit. The whole process took way too long and everyone was so rude about it. I quickly drank my drink and went to another bar. I get that I look young but come on - that was just ridiculous. Came in here last Sunday with the family for a dinner after reading the great comments on Yelp. The bar ws not crowded with only one more table ordering food. We had to wait a good 50mins before our food showed up. The waitress apologized multiple times and we were told that they were short-staffed in the kitchen. The food itself was very good (can't say worth the wait but definitely very good for pub-fare). The Grilled Chicken was done perfectly and the corn beef my wife ordered was very good as well. Nice ambiance (casual, divey and very intimate). All in all promising except the long wait for the food. Definitely willing to give them another try. read more

Went to this place with a number of buddies of mine. The bar had a good array of craft beers, and the bartenders were extremely knowledgable. The place also had a number of different slider selections. The Philly cheesesteak slider was pretty awesome and washed down with an Allagash white ale. In the back of the bar they had electronic darts which seemed to be pretty popular. read more

Our first and only time here. We won't be returning. Although we were seated at a table our beers were served in plastic cups whilst others received glass pints. Dinners came out at drastically different times--he was more than half-way finished before mine arrived. When plates arrived, no inquiry was made about anything else that might be required or desired, e.g., salt and pepper. Waitress never circled back to ask if everything was okay (my medium-rare burger was over cooked to medium-well). Overall...overwhelmingly unimpressed. read more

I have enjoyed all the food I have tried from here and the prices are really reasonable. It got docked a star for inconsistent service and because they don't always get the order right (has happened about 1 out of 6 or 7 orders). They will correct the mistake though and all the bartenders are nice. Would love to give it five stars but it just isn't quite there. Awesome new pub in Blackrock area. Wonderful bartenders, cozy welcoming atmosphere, great prices... When we came in last night, they were showing the Fairfield Univ basketball game, but they have more than 4 TVs, and were more than willing to change one up for us. And great deal on the Happy Hour!! Super unique, 'Historical Bridgeport' themed bar. A very very welcome addition to the neighborhood. Definitely classes up the Avenue! My wife and I were looking for a place to grab a quick drink and a snack yesterday evening in Black Rock. We'd almost given up; lack of on-street parking and some pretty gritty places that I'd have gone into alone but not with my wife. Then I spied the Tautog and ducked in while the car was idling at the curb. Perfect, unvarnished pub atmosphere, loads of parking out back, a really pleasant barkeep and a happy hour menu. Barkeep opened a fresh bottle of wine for my wife. Three sliders from a sampling menu for $10.00; delicious, exotic. Wish I'd ordered 12! We'll go back and recommend to friends! read more

My husband and I just discovered this place last night. Great feeling there. Nice cozy atmosphere (great low lighting), amazing music on Pandora and also a cool juke box, nice variety of beer on tap, and delicious food from a smart, limited menu. We felt as if we were in the East Village in NYC (high praise:) We sat at the bar and chatted a bit with Johnny, the bartender. We will definitely be back. The kitchen is open now, and so well worth it! The word amazing is an overused word in my opinion, but it so fits the new menu and food this little pub is now serving. I found the menu very creative and will be back very soon to try other inventive things. My tried and true test of any place we go to is the burger. You would think that would be any easy item, but it's a challenge to do it well. They absolutely nailed it!! An amazing blend of meat on a proportionate sized soft bun. Cooked thick, so the meat has a chance to stay on the rare side and so juicy. Served on a cutting board, with a small side of house made pickled vegetables. Served with fries that you can choose from a variety of vinegar & sea salt to herb and truffle. Started with a house made tomato soup, that was outstanding. Chef serves the cream on the side, so the customer can choose the amount they want. I am going back very soon to try more. Don't miss this new gem!!! read more

There's no way to sugarcoat it, this place is awful. Don't spend your hard-earned money here. It's not the food, amenities or drink selection that make Tautog such a poor destination. It's the cast of characters behind the operation. To get in the place on any given night you have to get by Allan at the door. That's a 50/50 proposition. If you happen to make it inside you have to deal with the manager, Johnny. His antics create an extremely uncomfortable and non-inclusive environment. His moods are as wide as the color spectrum and there's no preparing for what state he'll be in. He's ready to fly off the handle at any moment. If you're going to go somewhere in Black Rock skip the local dive bar and pick somewhere that has reasonable human beings working there that will treat you the same. read more

This place was horrendous! I have been there twice and both experiences were awful. The most recent experience involved a totally unprofessional male bartender with a long red pony tail. He was disrespectful and downright rude to every customer I saw him interact with, including myself. The first time however, the entire place had filled with natural gas and the staff not only did not recognize this as a serious problem, but they were insulted that customers even mentioned it. Overall, I would advise everyone against going here. read more

Cozy pub. Great place for a beer or Irish Whiskey. As for the food....Best option would be the burger with fries and pickled veg at $14. Otherwise prices on the small bites and sides slightly too high for what they give you. We had the pickled veg, fries with gravy, b sprouts. All served in small salad bowels at $7 each. Don't begrudge anyone turning a profit, but you could be more generous with your fries. Better food across the street at Carpenter and Walrus. read more

Walked in here around 8pm on a Saturday night after reading all the good reviews. Large group smoking outside the entrance, about 6-8 people at the bar and not a single person sitting and eating.
